Thirteen years ago, I made a terrible mistake.

One I'll never repeat again.

When I first met Reid, I failed to see the signs that were right in front of me. He asked me to do one thing–take him away and keep him safe.

I turned my back on him.

Now I have to live with the guilt and shame of knowing I let him down. He can't forgive me, and that's okay.

Because I'll never forgive myself.

When Reid's family comes to take him away, I have a chance to redeem myself. I can keep him safe. But the more I watch him, the more I fall for the man who doesn't see his self-worth.

Trouble is, can either of us forget the past in favour of the future? Or did my mistake all those years ago cost me any chance with the man of my dreams?

Either way, I'm not giving up until I find out.

Evan is a heartfelt hurt/comfort, M/M shifter x human romance. The second in the Wild Edges series, these books are best enjoyed in order. Each story follows a new couple, and always ends in a HEA.

This was so good! The world Lark Taylor has created is so vast and incredible. Although there is character overlap each series is easy to follow whether you have started at the beginning with the Reckless Damned series or not. How Lark has managed that I have no idea but somehow she has and I think it’s great! I’ve been curious about Evan and Reid since he stormed out from the back of the flower shop in Finlay (book 1 of The Wild Edges) and I was so happy to get their story! Learning about the first time Evan and Reid met was heartbreaking. Reid being born into a life where he wasn’t loved or excepted and Evan not fully understanding the circumstances was tough. However Reid growing up to be the feisty human he had become due to those circumstances was great to see. He never backed down afraid or not. As hard as the past had been for both men to cope with it was great having them come together to face the remnants of it seeking to ruin their future. I enjoyed their sweet moments such as Evan sending Reid puzzles to cheer him up and Reid bonding with Evan’s mom and the neighbors kid. I appreciated the acknowledgment of therapy and it being the tool Reid chose. It may not be for everyone but it worked for him and getting snippets of him utilizing it was nice. The side characters are always great and Lark tends to give us many possibilities when in comes to future pairings so I’m hoping based on vibes we eventually get a MMM featuring a set of besties and clan spy!

After how much I loved Finlay, I’ll admit I struggled to get into this one. I really wasn’t sure about Reid in the first book because of how he treated Evan, and I still struggled through the first half of this one for the same reason. Even after he’s made to understand why Evan did what he did, he still treats him terribly. Once the catalyst for them being around each other happens, this eased up and I began to enjoy the story so much more. Evan, on the other hand, is amazing and I loved his character. One of the most enjoyable parts, was the cameos from other characters, especially the one that sets up the next book (Calan’s!). That one is gonna be great, I can already tell.

✨️heavy breathing✨️

Lark Taylor delivers again with EVAN, the second book in the Wild Edges series.

Evan and Reid were brilliant. My heart is still aching a little. There was heavy grief, emotional damage, a little martyrdom, genuine laughs, cuteness, and falling in love. These two were something else.

There was great representation, too. ADHD, anxiety, ptsd, grief, and the aftermath of abuse and how it continues to play tricks on you years later.

The romance was GLORIOUS. I love an mc that is prepared to be miserable forever if it makes their person happy. Evan was all that and more - ready to do literally anything for Reid.

I knew these two would be mates. But the JOURNEY. My lort, the journey was everything.

And Lark was Larking, all the side characters introduced were 👀 eye opening. I see you Mac and Cole.

The epilogue.
Oh god, the EPILOGUE.

When a human born to a shifter clan escapes and finds refuge in another clans territory... the story evolves when our two mcs have a past. Throw in all the shifter/angel/Seraphim/demon story lines AND LET US NOT FORGET THE HUMANS TOO... this universe continues to expand and we continue to be blessed by stories that are fun, spicy, and emotionally devastating.

Lark, you beautiful bastard.

Yet another book in Taylor’s addictive paranormal universe.
Evan is a wolf shifter in the McCarthy clan, and has a heart of gold. He’d never knowingly hurt an innocent, especially a child. But he mistakenly leaves a child in a treacherous situation, and only finds out 13 years later when he meets the child, now a man, and sees how he’s been treated. Evan will do everything he can to protect Reid this time around.

This book has:
-human x wolf shifter
-wolf pack found family
-mates
-all the fun cameos you can expect in Lark Taylor’s universe
-hurt/comfort
-ADHD rep
-super protective wolfy bf

I will once again reiterate that Lark Taylor’s paranormal books seriously have something addicting in them. They ALWAYS manage to expand on an already extensive universe of gay supes with even more enjoyable characters. I love the crossovers, and this book once again made me excited for the next one in this extended universe 🤩

As far as Evan and Reid go, I enjoyed their dynamic. Evan is so sweet and protective of Reid, and is completely self-sacrificing. The whole McCarthy clan is full of sweethearts, honestly. Reid finally got the family he deserved 🥹

The plot of this book is pretty straightforward, very easy to follow. Yet again, more characters are introduced, but it wasn’t confusing. I have no idea when this universe will stop expanding, but I hope the answer is never. Because I’m gonna KEEP reading them!

This book had some fun spice, a cute romance, and fun supernatural elements. Don’t miss Evan 😍

If I find any grey in my hair, I blame Reid for that

Alright, listen: I get that he had a shitty past, and that he held a grudge against Evan. But I think it was a little too overkill- it was fine until it came to a point where it defeated all rationality and it just became frustrating to me. I was annoyed at seeing Evan groveling for something he realistically couldn't have done much about. The worst part was that Evan just took it on the nose and accepted being repeatedly treated like shit with little to no retaliation- that irritated me, because Evan is NOTHING but a sweet and caring guy.

That being said: I enjoyed the book, despite Reid's massive grudge. I loved the parallels with Finlay's timeline, and I absolutely looooved all of the cameos. The pack was incredibly sweet- and Evan's parents? Awww please can they adopt me? No because seriously, they're the best.

I'm curious about Logan's history with *the guys* (you'll know what I'm talking about) but what I'm even more curious about is the epilogue because DAMNNNN.

Here I am now, SALIVATING for the next book- oh this one's gonna be phenomenal. Please be phenomenal.

Naw, I LOVE this book so much! Both this one and its predecessor are now up there with my top-rated shifter stories.

Before I even started this book, I was routing for Evan and Reid. The first book introduced these two characters so well and made me yearn for their story. The two books run parallel to each other, so you see key events from the first book from a different POV.

It was easier to expect cruelty over kindness when that was all you knew as a kid.

The above line hit me hard. The treatment poor Reid endured as a youngster and his subsequent skewed beliefs about being a weak human really broke my heart. I loved that he shows such backbone though, even from a young age, and mentally applauded him whenever we see this spark in his adult self.

Reid’s ADHD brain just made me love him even more, and seeing the little things he did to help him navigate the world only made him extra endearing in my book. So, of course, I revelled in how appreciative Evan is of all things Reid, including his extensive descriptions on topics he was interested in.

Evan’s extreme distress when he learns the truth of Reid’s situation shows what kind of a person he is. He’s a good, kind man who made a mistake, and boy, does he go above and beyond to make up for his error. Protecting the human from a distance and then going the extra mile to try and help Reid, even knowing that he may never gain the other man’s forgiveness or acceptance *sigh* I was absolutely smitten with the wolf, and I felt his anguish deeply. I was the cheerleader with the tiny pompoms in the corner, encouraging him.

My heart wept at every step backwards these two made; the distance between them, physical and emotional, was incredibly hard on me too. OMG the ache in my heart after chapter 15 – that was a big one for all the emotions, and the aftermath crushed me.

And how could I not absolutely adore the support system of both of our MMCs? Their friends are the best, the most loyal found family there is, and I was thrilled that Reid got to experience real unconditional love from Evan’s parents. I was also elated about his budding friendship with Logan. He’s exactly the kind of person Reid needed in his corner.

I’m totally obsessed with this series and will be waiting eagerly for Calan’s book. The epilogues are the perfect intros as teasers of what’s to come. My heart was in my throat during both endings.

If you love MM shifter books with all the feels, you must get started on this series!

Some of my favourite quotes

“I don’t think you’re scatty, Reid. Your brain is like...a dozen train tracks operating all at once. It looks confusing to anyone on the outside, but you know where each train is going.”

“You can’t fix the past with the present: you can only move forward into the future.”

“Yer just as important to me, Reid. More so, if I’m being honest.” “You shouldn’t say such things, Ev.” “Why not?” “Because they make me want to do stupid things,”

“Well, this is probably as good a time as any for you to realise I’m often a f*cking muppet.” “That’s okay. So am I.”

“You can’t kiss me every time you want me to be quiet” “Maybe I’m just kissing you because I like it.”

“I like ye, Reid. All of ye. That includes when ye get distracted mid-task. When ye get fixated on something and forget that anything else exists. The endless knowledge you hoard on subjects I didn’t even know could be interesting.”

“You’re so fucking special. I’ll never stop being grateful that you took a chance on me.”

“Even if nothing more happens between us, even if what we have now is the extent of it, I’ll always know that my life is brighter because you’ve been in it.”

"I love you so much it terrifies me, because this feeling? It keeps growing. I don’t know how much more room there is for it, but I know my heart will find the space, because it’s you.”

“Feeling your love for me might just be the best thing in the world.”

We were both drowning in the darkness. Maybe we could find our way back to the light together.

As a rare human born to a clan of panther shifters, Reid is abused and ostracized by his family. When an outsider from a wolf shifter clan comes to visit, Reid seizes his chance for escape and asks Evan to rescue him. Unfortunately, Reid fails to understand the urgency of his request and leaves him in a terrible situation. When the two encounter each other again, Reid is furious with Evan and wastes no time informing Evan of the consequences of his actions all those years ago. As unlikely as a romance between the two is, love starts to blossom as Evan impresses Reid with his willingness to do anything to keep him safe, and to never abandon him again.
“You can be brave and still struggle. No one could go through what you did and just walk away fine. Trauma leaves a wound. You need to treat it, or else it’ll become infected. You can’t just ignore it and hope it goes away.”

I think the real strength of this book is Lark's attention to the relationship between the two characters. It must've been so tricky to navigate, given what happened in their past. The book isn't exactly slow burn, but it's not insta love either (which would be super unrealistic). Reid needs to forgive Evan and see him for who he is - someone who would never have abandoned a child if he had known he was being abused. On the other hand, Evan needs to realize that the protectiveness and guilt he feels towards Reid doesn't equal love. The two don't fall in love because of, or in spite of, their past history, but because they accepted it. I also really liked the focus on therapy and working through trauma.
"I couldn’t let another minute of your life pass where you believed you were unloved. Because ye are, sweetheart. I love you so much it terrifies me, because this feeling? It keeps growing. I don’t know how much more room there is for it, but I know my heart will find the space, because it’s you.”

I gave the book a 4 overall due to the savvy character work by Lark. The plot was also interesting, but something about this one wasn't as strong as others she's written. At times it lagged and at others I felt like too much was going on with the extended clans and friend groups. In addition, Evan was incredibly accepting of Reid and instantly loved all his quirks, which I found a bit unrealistic. Reid has unmedicated and unmanaged ADHD as well as the complicated history of trauma and abuse which led to instances of depression. It was beautiful to see how Evan accepted him unconditionally because Reid really needed that in a partner, and Evan is a genuinely lovely person. For some reason though it came across to me like fantasy wish fulfillment. To be very clear, I am not calling people with trauma and ADHD unlovable in any way, I just wish there was a teensy tiny bit more nuance than what was there. Something about it felt over the top.

and one little bonus quote because 😂
My punctuality was more hit and miss than an incel’s success rate with beautiful women.

The beauty of healing and forgiveness is the underlying theme of this book, while it also displays the beautiful side of what found family is and making a life beyond the hurt and pain. I adored Reid's spirit and tenacity in the face of adversity. It was also heartbreaking because he didn't have love from the moment he was born. It was a crazy conundrum because while we see Reid thriving in his new life, Evan can't move on from the mistake that was eating him out from the inside. Yet, he had an ideal childhood, wonderful friends, and loving parents. The dichotomy between these two was great to read and also why these two work when they finally fall for one another.

Evan is a wolf shifter who, years ago was sent on a peace mission where he met a young Reid who asked for his help. That help could have cost Evan's clan to go to war, so he tried to handle it peacefully, but now over a decade later, he runs into Reid, who is now a young man, and finds out that his peaceful inaction caused Reid years of abuse. It was only with Reid escaping that he finally is free, but he can't forget or forgive the wolf shifter who refused to help him in his time of need. Hence--Evan is on his sh*t list and Reid doesn't plan to take him off anytime soon.

To say that Evan takes it hard that he left Reid there is an understatement, but he honestly didn't know. Reid doesn't hold back and it was great how Reid never fears stating his mind to Evan and the whole shifter community, which is the total opposite of how he grew up. He may be small, but he is mighty and I loved that his spirit was never broken. He was also very situationally aware of his ADHD and knew that he lost time, lost items, was easily distracted, etc...I tell you what, Reid is my spirit animal because...Wow! Did I feel seen. 👀❤️ Thank you Lark for continually writing these beautifully flawed and amazing characters!!

This book is heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time, while also showing the best of life along with the worst. Evan and Reid find love somewhere in the midst of all that and it was wonderful to be a part of it.

Some of this story interweaves with Finn and Chester's timeline and since Reid works with Chester, this is one book where I feel reading Finn's book would work in your favor for understanding the overall arc of the plot. While a lot of Larks' books can be read as a standalone, this is one that works best as a continuation from the last book, at least for the best reading enjoyment.

There are some wonderful cameos (I loved that 🥰), mingling of characters from other series (squeeed and kicked my feet over that!!😍) and a brief look at what's on the horizon. (Totally ecstatic for what's up next.🎉)

I've been looking forward to Evan's story ever since Lark announced we were getting his story next, and let me tell you, it was worth the wait! Evan and Reid's story is heartbreaking in the beginning, so much so you're left unsure if they'll have a happily ever after together. Well, I'm here to tell you that while they had a long road getting there, they did eventually end up happy.

I am obsessed with Lark's writing, it's sooo good! There are always so many details describing the characters, the scenery, vivid account of the characters pasts, and she has a unique take on fated mates and shifter, which I LOVE! I absolutely adored Evan, he is truly such a sweetheart, he's kind hearted and Soo caring. When he found out who Reid was and what he went through he was devastated and heartbroken, but he was determined to make it up to Reid any way he could. He's truly so sweet and special.

Now, as for Reid... I appreciated the neruodivergent rep as well as representing ADHD as well, however, Reid's character just didn't do it for me. I understand why he was upset and angry with Evan in the beginning, but he just kept throwing insults at Evan and throwing the past in his face all while saying he knows that it wasn't truly Evan's fault. I know that sometimes trauma and hurt doesn't listen to logic, but it felt a bit redundant to have him constantly hate on Evan when Evan was doing his best to make things right. Plus, there wasn't anything Evan could've done in the past, he was there representing his pack, he couldn't just take a child...

That being said, once Reid let himself actually get to know Evan, I will admit that they do make a good pairing together. I also really appreciate how mental health was featured and showcased in a respectful and brilliant way, mental health representation is SO important so I'm glad it was apart of this book.

I want to say that I absolutely adore Evan's parents, they are so adorable, fierce, protective, and so kind! They are just perfect characters! I am very interested in what is going on between Logan and two humans though... Hopefully we'll learn more info in Callan's book!

I'm very excited to see where this series goes next and what Lark has in store for these characters next.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, which isn’t surprising as I’ve loved everything that I’ve read of Lark’s to date. I also thought that it was a good addition to the Wild Edges Series, which is set in the Reckless Damned Universe. Man, my heart hurt for everything Reid suffered through, and it’s totally understandable that he blames Evan for not only not saving him but asking his abuser aka his sp*rm donor since he was never a father to Reid about what Reid said not knowing what pain that would cause Reid. The McCarthy clan that Evan comes from is absolutely nothing like Reid’s Jaguar clan so Evan couldn’t even fathom what Reid told him was true. It doesn’t excuse it but still. Even if Evan decided to take Reid with him when he left the clan it would’ve resulted in the treaty between the clans being voided so war breaking out, as well as Evan having to forfeit his immortality.

When Reid’s horrible family tracks him down, Evan wasn’t going to fail in protecting Reid like he did last time even if Reid doesn’t want Evan anywhere near him, he and his wolf decide to stay close so he’ll be able to step in when danger arises. I liked how their relationship progressed and I thought that their chemistry was off the charts. I’m so glad that Reid finally found the family that he deserves. I’m totally with Evan and that seeing the way Reid’s brain works is fascinating. I’m looking forward to reading the next book, even more so after reading the epilogue. I’m also really excited about all the characters that have been introduced during this universe that are definitely going to get their own book, as well those possibly getting their own book. I’d read as many books from this universe that Lark decides to write. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.

Oh my sweet sweet Reid. He deserved all the protection and love he got throughout the book. He went through it with his clan when he was younger but he came out stronger than ever. Did he have some lingering trauma, of course and it was misplaced at times but he knew that he wanted to get better and he tried more than anything.

Evan was pretty much all in from the beginning, after he learned who Reid was all these years later, it was his lone mission to ensure he was safe, protected and loved in the way that he deserved. He gave Reid everything even though at times Reid pushed his so far away it was like he was on another planet.

Reid in all his chaoticness was highlighted really well. Evan with his protectiveness was hot. There connection was undeniable.

I enjoyed watching these two fall in love and to see that not all clan life is like the one that he grew up in. Evan and Reid were the perfect pair. The whole McCarthy group is so supportive and I love them all so much. Brodie and Hamish were hilarious and Logan, I have no words for him, but I think he might just be my favorite and we don't even have his book yet.

I will say that I wish there was more of Reid's friends, Bryce, Mac and Cole. They were such a huge importance in his life just for them to disappear almost completely minus a few mentions until the end. I understand why Reid kept his distance but they could have been there for him in some way. Aso Logan, Mac and Cole 🤔 there's definitely something there between them

Calan is next. He is seen as this broody enforcer but some mentions from Reid of how he really is and he is a secret softy with a big ol heart. That epilogue, oooooh tension filled goodness bound to happen.

ARC REVIEW

This is the second book of the series and I enjoyed it just as much as the first. The hurt of the hurt comfort stems from childhood trauma and the one sided enemies to lovers comes from rejection or maybe lack of action on one side and a held grudge from the other.

We met Reid in book one as a human with knowledge of the shifter world and in that book we learn he was a rare human born of shifters but isn’t one himself. The trauma he faces from his family as a child shapes his view of shifters in general, and that includes the shifter he once asked for help, but was denied.
Evan met Reid before he was even one of the inner circle and Reid was just a kid, and had no idea the abuse Reid suffered because he lived by the code that shifters protected their own, and it never occurred to him that Reid’s family were hurting him. Now away from his family Reid is prejudice against shifters while at the same time feels weak and inferior to them.

It is hard watching Reid go from strong and outspoken for his friends to scared and isolated for fear of others getting caught in the crossfire. It’s been difficult seeing the breakdown of the strong/forward/fearless Reid and seeing the scattered/second guessing/scared/ depressed Reid in his place. On the flip, it’s great watching Evans patience and planning while he woo’s Reid after some great motherly advice. Evan fell before he knew it and now is determined to show Reid how life, love, and family should be.

I absolutely love the complete acceptance that the McCarthy Clan has for Reid and how it allows Reid to learn to accept love and family and clan life.

I found Larks universe through her Colab with Cora Rose and as she pulls in more characters from her other series’s, I will definitely be going back and reading them (the other series).

3.5* rounded up

This book runs partly parallel to Finlay's story and then carries on. If you read Finn and Chester's story you already know some of the issues between Reid and Evan. These books are best read in order, at least read Finn and ideally also Danny book, Humility.

I enjoyed being back in the Lark-universe but did struggle with this book. While I did understand logically the issue behind Reid's and also Evan's behaviour and reasoning, the book was fairly long on that topic and it felt it repeated the "you left me", "I am sorry, I didn't know" a bit too often.

I also found it difficult to get an understanding why Reid's former clan was so desperate to get him back, the logic was quite flimsy in the end and I felt disappointed as the arch ended hurried and fairly shallow.

I did like Reid and Evan, the human and the wolf shifter and I think both characteristics were descripted really well. There is a decent amount of spice, it took them to get to acknowledge what they have and how to move forward together.

But Reid not being open to his friends was odd, why did the clan did not try to get him help earlier and it did felt a bit of stringing him along as several times the story seems to skip ahead for a month without anything actually happening.

I must confess, in the end I did skim a bit, I really wanted to know what exactly the issue was and how they solved it.

The angel cameo was great, I love Benji and his knowledge of all kind of laws and codes.

So, the stars are mainly for a good addition to the universe and that we will see more of them hopefully soon.

Evan is book two in the Wild Edges series. This MM wolf shifter and human romance story is about Evan and Reid.

Evan is a wolf shifter in the McCarthy clan and becomes part of Finlay’s inner circle. He was so sweet, caring, and very protective. Reid is a human that was born to a shifter clan. My heart broke after learning about all of the abuse, pain and trauma Reid endured. Thankfully he escaped and found refuge in the McCarthy clans territory.

Evan and Reid have a past, so when Reid sees Evan thirteen years later, he wants nothing to do with him. Although I could understand where Reid was coming from, my heart hurt for Evan. Evan regretted the decision he had made back then. He felt he failed Reid, but he vowed that he would never do so again.

When Reid finds himself in danger, Evan and his clan are there to protect him. Reid didn’t make it easy on Evan, but I loved how Evan was there for him no matter what. It was touching to see Evan so patient and caring, helping Reid to understand what he went through growing up wasn’t normal. Evan was definitely a special one, wanting nothing more than for Reid to be happy. He would do anything for him, even if that was sacrificing himself. Evan made sure Reid knew he was loved. Evan’s parents, friends, and the inner circle were amazing and I was happy to see Reid finally get the family he deserved.

Evan and Reid’s journey was certainly not an easy one, and their HEA was hard earned. I enjoyed this story and the epilogue definitely has me so excited for what’s coming next!

This is Book 2 in The Wild Edges series theses books are written as stand alones but this one follows some events from the first book so I do recommend reading them in order personally. This is also not super dark but there are some heavy topics here so definitely check the CWs for this one.

🌶🌶🌶

Evan and Reid have a complicated history. Evan met Reid 13 years ago when he had to visit another Clan and Reid was a child in that Clan. What Evan didn't know was that Reid was being abused there, so when Reid asked Evan to take him away he didn't really take him seriously and when the time came for Evan to leave he said goodbye and they went their separate ways...leaving Reid to suffer until he turned 18 and could runaway.
Flash forward to now. Reid has been sorta hiding in Evan's clans territory because his own clan cannot cross the boarders to drag him back, but they have now found him. So when Evan comes face to face with Reid again to protect him and finds out that Reid wasn't lying and what exactly he left him to endure through, the guilt absolutely crushes Evan.
Reid blames him for those remaining years and is finding it hard to trust Evan again but now Evan refuses to leave Reid alone protecting him at all costs.
These two have quite the journey and my heart just breaks for both of them 😫😭 There is a HEA...Not giving any spoilers here but it is definitely hard earned so you gotta stick with these guys and it is absolutely worth it! Just the care and patience Evan shows Reid is just absolutely everything! And of course Lark just dangles the next couple and I CANNOT wait!

Wow, so this was so great. I love this series. Kinda love all the Shifter/Supe/Angel/Demon books of Larks lol

They are just so sad, most of the time, such hurt lonely boys, given up on love, or not finding their mates, hurt/comfort. I just love the vibes of these books.

We saw Reid from Finlay's book, and how it left off, I was on the edge of my seat waiting for Evan and Reid's book. Eek, this did not disappoint.

Evan felt absolutely horrible and his past with Reid. Naturally, it wrecked him once he found out the full truth. He and his wolf wanted to respect Reid's wishes and stay away, but Evan wanted to make things right.

I appreciated the slow burn nature, these two needed time to heal, forgive and accept their past.

We have some action in this book as well, Reid's Clan making trouble for everyone.

I loved it all. I loved how slowly they fell in love, how natural it felt, how sweet and hot they were together. How funny they all are.

“We were both drowning in the darkness. Maybe we could find our way back to the light together.”

Evans' family was incredible, his mom and dad were everything. They showed Reid the family he always deserved.

This was just perfect. I loved every word.

I am so ready for Calan’s story oh my, that snippet at the end, eek!

SO thankful for this arc.

I just finished ARC reading Evan by @larktaylorauthor - My first wolf shifter read and… WOW. 🐺🔥 The “touch him and die” energy and found family vibes? Two of my favorite tropes, and this book nailed them!
I stared with book 2, so the world-building was a little catch-up for me—but honestly, that made falling for these characters even easier. Reid? My heart broke for him. Literally right into my throat. Evan? Total. Fictional. Perfection. Gorgeous, kind, brave, and morally solid. The total package.
The angst? For me….. this part dragged on longer than I would have liked and had a few miscommunication moments which had me screaming internally. So when they finally got together? I was mentally cheering, “YES!” and dove headfirst into the story….. AND THE SPICE! 🌶️

One of my favorite aspects was the insight into Reid’s mind. It gave such a vivid look at life with ADHD and added depth to the story. It also made me adore Evan even more—his love for Reid and the way his mind worked was beautiful.
Bottom line: I LOVED this book. If you’re into wolf shifters, found family, and emotional intensity, grab this one! Tip! Check out the epilogue! Anyone else ready for book 3 now?

Tropes you will find:
🐺wolf shifter x human
🔥mm PNR
🐺one sided enemies to lovers
🔥ADHD rep
🐺touch him and die
🔥protective mc
🐺found family
🔥angsty

I received this ARC for my honest opinion. Evan by Lark Taylor was a fabulous read. I have been waiting for this book for a while. Once I learned about Evan and part of his story I wanted to know more. Reid and Evan's story is one of heartache, trauma, loss, yearning, love, acceptance and protection. Reid and Evan meet 13 years prior when Evan is sent to a conference for shifters. Reid is human and Evan shows him he is allowed to play with everyone. Reid asks for help and to talk him away from his clan. Evan not knowing what to do without causing a war addresses it with the Alpha. Flashforward, Reid and Evan meet again at Reid's place of work and Reid tells him he never wants to see him again. The tension between the two of them is at an all time high and carried throughout the story. Evan does not want to push Reid. Reid does not know how to let people in without them getting hurt. They learn together that they need to work through the trauma of what had happened 13 years ago. They are needing to forgive themselves more than each other. I was not able to out this book down until I was done. I am excited for the next one from Lark. I have read the entire catalogue and would highly recommend all books.

What a ride Evan and Reid took me on. There was plenty of angsty moments, numerous times that made my eyes leak and a hard earned HEA that made my heart explode with happiness. Throw in the sweet/spicy times and an epic epilogue that has me gasping for more all made for a page turning read that I couldn’t put down. Being a human born into a despicable shifter clan meant Reid had a deplorable childhood and that is when he first met Evan. A meeting that had serious repercussions when they meet again 13 years later. Their story is not a sweet, easy romance. It’s gritty and filled with painful memories and moments until what once seemed impossible becomes a new reality for them filled with love and happiness. Lark Taylor surely knows how to break and shatter my emotions and then skilfully repair the damage so I’m a sappy, goofy smiling smoochy hearted reader at the end. I can highly recommend taking the journey with Evan, Reid and their wonderful clan and found family members.

This was so good! The world Lark Taylor has created is incredible. Although there is character overlap each series is easy to follow whether you have started at the beginning with the Reckless Damned series or not.I’ve been curious about Evan and Reid since he stormed out from the back of the flower shop in Finlay (book 1 of The Wild Edges) and I was so happy to get their story! Learning about how Evan and Reid first met was so heartbreaking. I did love seeing that Reid grew up to be the fiesty human he was due to the circumstances. As hard as the past was for both men to cope it was great having them come together.

Thank you to The Author Agency for the ARC. This review is honest and voluntary.

Okay, so first things first. If you’re worried about jumping into this series because there are small cameos from characters in the author’s other books, don’t be. This is actually my first series from her, and I never felt lost or confused. Everything was easy to follow, and it didn’t feel like I was missing important context just because I hadn’t read her other work yet. That alone made it so much easier to fully enjoy the story.

Now let’s talk about Reid and Evan. I have been curious about them since book one, especially after that moment in the flower shop. Finally getting their full story and seeing how deep their history really goes was honestly heartbreaking. There was so much pain there, but watching them work through everything made the ending feel so rewarding

And that cliffhanger. I need book three immediately. When I first looked up the release date and saw it was a year away, I was devastated. Finding out the date might be moved up once the book is finished gave me some hope, and I am fully crossing my fingers because I need answers like yesterday.

I really enjoyed Evan, it’s got all the heartfelt, angsty vibes you’d expect from a hurt/comfort romance, and the dynamic between Reid and Evan is so compelling. The guilt and redemption arc hit hard, and I loved how raw and real their emotions felt.
The portrayal of Evan’s ADHD was a standout for me. It felt authentic and relatable, which doesn’t always happen in romance books. Kudos to Lark for nailing that representation!
That said, the last two chapters threw me for a loop. It felt like I’d accidentally picked up a different book. Suddenly, there were demons, angels, and vampires? It was a wild left turn that didn’t quite mesh with the rest of the story, being a shifter romance. I appreciate the creativity, but it felt a bit jarring after such a grounded, emotional journey.
Still, the core romance and character development kept me hooked. If you love shifters, second chances, and plenty of emotional baggage, Evan is worth the read

Another great book by Lark Taylor. This is Evan and Reid’s story. We got a sneak peak at them in the first book in The Wild Edges series. I do recommend that you read that book first.

Reid has a lot of trauma from his childhood. And when he runs into Evan again after 13 years he is not nice about it. Evan who is a total green flag takes the blame and feels very guilty about not helping Reid in the past. I really did not like how Reid treated Evan at the beginning of the story. I did not think Evan deserved it at all.

Evan was so kind to and protective of Reid. I really enjoyed his character the most. This story had nice steam and a bit of shifters getting ready for battle. Evan’s mom and dad were wonderful. I loved seeing Logan and Calan again. And I was pleasantly surprised to see my favorite Angel Benji!

I love getting a sneak peak on up coming MMCs and I’m excited for the next Lark Taylor book.

OMG. This was so good. I recommend you read Finlay’s book as the timelines for both stories go at the same time. The story starts with Evan going to a shifter conference to get treaties signed. While there, and on a break, he starts playing with the shifter children. He stops when one starts tugging on his sleeve. He realizes that Reid is human born of two shifter parents. When Reid asks him to take him away, Evan tells his father and leaves. Fast forward 13 years and Evan is now part of the inner circle for the McCarthy clan. Tasked to go to Chester’s shop, he meets someone that starts yelling at him. He tells him who is and what happened. The story starts from there where both Evan tries to make things better and Reid slowly to forgive him. This was a great book that was very slow burn. Great heat and chemistry between them. I cannot wait to read the next one as that epilogue was epic.

I knew this one would hurt and it definitely did. I cried more than 5 times while reading this. I really love Reid and his ability to be so damn brave after everything he’s gone through. I also enjoyed meeting his friends, they’re so perfect for him. And Evan’s parents?! They’re such gems!! Reid has such a huge loving family now and I’m crying again just thinking about it.

Low-key spoilers ahead….

Speaking of Reid’s friends: I clocked early on that Mac, Cole and Logan are obviously going to be a throuple at some point. Reid says Cole and Mac hook up and share sometimes, then Logan says he’s poly. It was so obvious. But that ending… Cole and Mac obviously already know Logan. But how?! I was hoping their book would be next but alas, it’s Calan. “Straight” boy Calan. I’m eager to read his book but damn I wanted Logan’s book next! Now we wait.

Evan and Reid shared a bit of past which could derail their future.

Reid felt he had every reason to distrust (hate) Evan and he wouldn’t be swayed from his opinion despite the building evidence that maybe Evan wasn’t all bad. I like how this author builds the conflict between the main characters without making them unlikeable. The very slow heat between them was enough to keep the story moving without me losing interest.

The action scenes seemed anticlimactic though. The seriousness of injuries didn’t have a lot of impact given the supes ability to heal from even the most brutal wounds.

The other characters gave support and snark in equal measures.

All the angst came to visit in this story as did several characters from the authors other series’.

Welcome to the second book of The Wild Edges. This book kind of picks up where Finlay left off, while also filling in a LOT of blanks. While you don’t technically have to read Finlay to read this one, you’ll definitely understand much more of what’s going on if you do.

Evan is a Wolf Shifter who met Reid when Reid was just a kid. Reid, the human son of an Alpha shifter, had a rough life. When Evan is sent to Reid’s family lands, the boy befriends the Wolf Shifter and in a desperate attempt to escape his torment, asks Evan to take him away.

Evan’s decision haunts him when he finds out what became of that young human he left behind. And when Reid’s family comes back to try and bring him ‘home,’ Evan and his wolf are having none of that.

This was such an interesting and sometimes heartbreaking journey these two men took to find their HEA, but they get there, and it’s so good!
