Thirteen years ago, I made a terrible mistake.

One I'll never repeat again.

When I first met Reid, I failed to see the signs that were right in front of me. He asked me to do one thing–take him away and keep him safe.

I turned my back on him.

Now I have to live with the guilt and shame of knowing I let him down. He can't forgive me, and that's okay.

Because I'll never forgive myself.

When Reid's family comes to take him away, I have a chance to redeem myself. I can keep him safe. But the more I watch him, the more I fall for the man who doesn't see his self-worth.

Trouble is, can either of us forget the past in favour of the future? Or did my mistake all those years ago cost me any chance with the man of my dreams?

Either way, I'm not giving up until I find out.

Evan is a heartfelt hurt/comfort, M/M shifter x human romance. The second in the Wild Edges series, these books are best enjoyed in order. Each story follows a new couple, and always ends in a HEA.

This story has a lot of heart, and I really enjoyed the journey that Reid and Evan took to find their way back to one another after a horrible breach in trust that led to not only a major misunderstanding but also so much hurt for both characters.

Overall, this story takes the lore set up in previous instalments and builds upon the relationships within Evan's pack while incorporating so much heart and struggle as Evan works to win over Reid, regardless of his resistance and stubbornness. Together, these two have a clear connection and watching them fall for one another and learning to trust one another again makes it not only entertaining but completely endearing as well.

Read in another buddy read with the always lovely Lilly ❤️

Was excitedly waiting for this one and it did not disappoint one bit, these two were gold together!

Reid was born into a supernatural jaguar shifter clan, except he was one of the very rare humans born of shifters. It's not an impossible thing, although it is rarely ever seen. Instead of being overprotective of him as a result, his clan hates him and his father is abusive - the whole clan is, really - and his mother is absent/distant with him.

When he's 10, Evan is there as like a spokesperson for the McCarthy Clan, as all supe clans do that, sending representatives to like...I don't know if you call it a get together where different clans talk business, but whatever it is called, Evan is there for it. He's relatively young for a shifter in his 40's, and he's wanting to prove himself.

While there, he meets Reid and Evan is kind and respectful to him, and Reid is a sweet ten year old kid who talks his ear off. The rest of the clan does its best to hide how abusive they are toward Reid, and Evan kind of takes their explanations at face value when he's told them. Which is a mistake, yes, but understandable to someone like Evan who we learn has loving parents and grew up in a clan that treated its members how they should be treated.

Still, when Reid asks Evan to take him with him, Evan thinks he's joking, and even goes so far as to tell Reid's father about it. Evan doesn't know it, but he inadvertently makes things worse for Reid after that.

Flash forward 13 years later, and Evan forgets Reid before he's reminded very well of who Reid is and what happened.

We get a bit of this in the first book, but this goes over many of the vents from Evan and Reid's POV and we go a bit beyond what we saw in the first book too.

I found myself understanding and feeling for both Reid and Evan, I never felt one was in the wrong or an asshole for how they handled things. Evan did make a mistake all those years ago and perhaps he was a bit naive at the time, but he didn't know about the abuse and didn't mean to leave Reid there to be hurt as he was. It's understandable for Reid to be hurt and need time to get past Evan's part in his past as well, though.

And Reid is just so sweet and adorable that I can't help but feel for him, and when he comes to realize he's perhaps been a bit too harsh with Evan, he's so sweet and apologetic about it. Evan doesn't want to hear it, he DOES blame himself, but Reid doesn't want him to anymore either. So the way they both come to realize things and forgive themselves and each other for their past is beautiful to see.

Evan is just the sweetest, and he showers Reid with love as Reid deserves. Their chemistry was amazing and I loved the journey they go on in this book. It was so deserved once they finally got to that place of love and ready to be Mates.

I swooned whenever Evan called Reid sweetheart, and I loved the size difference between them, it was so hot to imagine.

Also how they get one up on the Clarkson Clan was *chefs kiss* because fuck them. I can't wait to they're gone for good.

I also did not know why the Clarkson's wanted Reid and I was surprised by the reason we eventually get, but it also made a ton of sense once we learned what it was. But how we got past that problem for these two to have their HEA was well done.

Also the epilogue focused on Calan and usually that would annoy me a bit, but it shocked me so much, I was so gagged by it that I wasn't mad at it ALL. Like oh my god Calan's LI is WHO?!! I did NOT see that coming! Now things make a bit of sense from previous books though.

I cannot WAIT to dive into Calan's book next, that will be so exciting to learn THAT history. And what is going on in Calan's head a lot of the time because no one, not even his closest clan members, had any idea about his LI. Also man thinks he's straight...lol sure, Jan.

So until then! 😍

My Ratings for The Wild Edges Series:

Thank you Author Agency and Lark Taylor for the opportunity to read this early!

Contains : wolf shifter x human, mm PNR, one sided enemies to lovers, ADHD rep, touch him & die, protective mc, found family, angsty.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m going to be honest, I did not like Reid for a long period and it was making it very difficult to keep reading. I just don’t think he had any reason to hold the grudge he was against Evan. The whole thing was clearly a misunderstanding. I did understand his reaction at first and then it just got tired tbh. Especially with the one step forward, ten steps backwards. Either you forgive Evan or you don’t, like PLEASEEEE. Once that back and forth with Reid ended, I did enjoy the book a lot more and I enjoyed Reid’s character. Evan = perfection, zero complaints.

The epilogue already has me foaming at the mouth for the next book, I’m so curious what is going to happen there. I cannot to read it.

Side note, I absolutely loved the ADHD representation in this book, as someone who struggles with it, there’s not many times you read about characters and how difficult living daily life is unmedicated. So I really did appreciate that.

This was so good! The world Lark Taylor has created is so vast and incredible. Although there is character overlap each series is easy to follow whether you have started at the beginning with the Reckless Damned series or not. How Lark has managed that I have no idea but somehow she has and I think it’s great! I’ve been curious about Evan and Reid since he stormed out from the back of the flower shop in Finlay (book 1 of The Wild Edges) and I was so happy to get their story! Learning about the first time Evan and Reid met was heartbreaking. Reid being born into a life where he wasn’t loved or excepted and Evan not fully understanding the circumstances was tough. However Reid growing up to be the feisty human he had become due to those circumstances was great to see. He never backed down afraid or not. As hard as the past had been for both men to cope with it was great having them come together to face the remnants of it seeking to ruin their future. I enjoyed their sweet moments such as Evan sending Reid puzzles to cheer him up and Reid bonding with Evan’s mom and the neighbors kid. I appreciated the acknowledgment of therapy and it being the tool Reid chose. It may not be for everyone but it worked for him and getting snippets of him utilizing it was nice. The side characters are always great and Lark tends to give us many possibilities when in comes to future pairings so I’m hoping based on vibes we eventually get a MMM featuring a set of besties and clan spy!

After how much I loved Finlay, I’ll admit I struggled to get into this one. I really wasn’t sure about Reid in the first book because of how he treated Evan, and I still struggled through the first half of this one for the same reason. Even after he’s made to understand why Evan did what he did, he still treats him terribly. Once the catalyst for them being around each other happens, this eased up and I began to enjoy the story so much more. Evan, on the other hand, is amazing and I loved his character. One of the most enjoyable parts, was the cameos from other characters, especially the one that sets up the next book (Calan’s!). That one is gonna be great, I can already tell.

Thank you to The Author Agency for the ARC. This review is honest and voluntary.

Despite not being a big fan of paranormal romance, I was genuinely surprised by how invested I became in Lark Taylor’s universe. There’s something about her writing, the world-building, the characters, the emotional tone, that just pulls me in 😌

That said, I was already emotionally invested in Evan's story thanks to 'Finlay'. And while you can somewhat predict where things are heading, it still hooks you up.

One more thing I really appreciate about Lark Taylor’s books is that they don’t focus solely on the main couple. The world feels layered and alive, with strong side characters who matter and reappear.

While 'Finlay' was sweet and made me smile stupidly at times, 'Evan' felt heavier. It’s not about easy happiness, at least not until the final stretch. We also revisit some scenes from the previous book, but seeing them from a different POV felt necessary and added emotional depth.

Did Reid overreact? I do think so. In the first half of the book, his reactions could somewhat be justified for the sake of the trope. In the second half, though, his continued self-denial felt a bit unnecessary..

The main dramatic twist surprised me.. It kinda felt like "but why?", but by the end, it did come together in a way that made sense.

Despite everything, I truly loved both characters 💛 Evan is pure sweetness and raw emotion, while Reid is a traumatized but feisty, bossy bottom you can’t help but feel deeply for 🤍

Once again, I love returning to this shared universe with cameos joining along the way 🥰

So now I'm (im)patiently waiting for book three 🙃

- series
- second chance
- ADHD/mental health rep

This is the second in the Wild Edges series, following a pack of shifters in Scotland. It's set in the Lark-verse so there are a couple of cool cameos if you're familiar with that universe. This is Evan and Reid's story though, and I really enjoyed it. I loved being back in this world and I was really looking forward to finding out Reid's story.

Reid and Evan met years ago when Reid was still a child, and when they meet again years later Evan doesn't recognise Reid, but Reid sure does recognise Evan. Reid has been through a lot and I admired how he's built his life to this point, going it alone against his very toxic family. I get that he blames Evan, but I do get where Evan was coming from at that point too. I liked how they slowly built the relationship between them in the face of everything, these two really are perfect for each other.

I couldn't work out why Reid's family was so desperate to take him back - I knew there was more to the story and while things are a little clearer, I think there's definitely still more story to tell. I am here for it all and I can't wait for the continuation.

Was not a fan of the pacing of this book and definitely not a fan of the main couple

I honestly felt a little uncomfy reading their first too spicy scenes together bc they felt so random and wrong timing

I never felt too connected to these two as a couple or mates. I don’t think they had really any chemistry or were meant to be together

While I always love some good adhd rep, sometimes it felt like I was in a psychology lecture class as it kept getting brought up over and over and over. Like I do not know Reid’s personality outside of his trauma and Adhd and I would’ve liked to see that growth throughout the book

I still enjoyed the found family and set up for the next couple of books in this world. That always is written up well. But unfortunately this book overall and the couple’s portrayal was not for me

CANT WAIT FOR CALAN THOOOO

✨️heavy breathing✨️

Lark Taylor delivers again with EVAN, the second book in the Wild Edges series.

Evan and Reid were brilliant. My heart is still aching a little. There was heavy grief, emotional damage, a little martyrdom, genuine laughs, cuteness, and falling in love. These two were something else.

There was great representation, too. ADHD, anxiety, ptsd, grief, and the aftermath of abuse and how it continues to play tricks on you years later.

The romance was GLORIOUS. I love an mc that is prepared to be miserable forever if it makes their person happy. Evan was all that and more - ready to do literally anything for Reid.

I knew these two would be mates. But the JOURNEY. My lort, the journey was everything.

And Lark was Larking, all the side characters introduced were 👀 eye opening. I see you Mac and Cole.

The epilogue.
Oh god, the EPILOGUE.

When a human born to a shifter clan escapes and finds refuge in another clans territory... the story evolves when our two mcs have a past. Throw in all the shifter/angel/Seraphim/demon story lines AND LET US NOT FORGET THE HUMANS TOO... this universe continues to expand and we continue to be blessed by stories that are fun, spicy, and emotionally devastating.

Lark, you beautiful bastard.

"For the first time ever, I felt like I belonged somewhere. It wasn’t with the McCarthys though, although this place was starting to feel like home. It was with Evan. I belonged with Evan."

Ugh, Evan was so fricking good! The longing, the pining, the cosy clan life, the die-for-you feelings — take it out of June’s oven because it was cooked to perfection.

I knew I was going to love Reid from the second he ripped Evan a new one in The Wild Edges book 1, and by the end of Evan I was ready to throat-punch a Clarkson for him. He deserves the absolute world, and who better to give it to him than Evan with his heart of gold and his desperate need to protect the man he let down all of those years ago.
No fated mates in this series, my arse. Look me in the eye and tell me Reid and Evan aren’t the very definition of fated mates. Find me two more characters more destined to be together. Go on. I’ll wait. No, not Fin and Chester, put them back. We’re taking about Revan here.
I mean, the man literally had food and puzzles sent to Reid's door when he thought he hadn't eaten in too long and needed something that would keep his mind busy and bring a smile back to his sweet face. Ugh, Evan is just so kind and caring and he was exactly what Reid needed. Evan was trying so hard to protect Reid and to be his safe space, that he didn't realise Reid had also become those things for him - even before Reid admitted he loved him back. They were so supportive of each other without being overbearing, and they allowed each other to just be who they were without apology. They're perfect together.

The found family is so strong with this series. It was so lovely to watch the McCarthy clan integrate Reid into their lives so seamlessly and love him unconditionally. He deserved to have that. And I loved how much Reid's friends loved him and how easy they slotted back into each others lives after months of radio silence from Reid. I love that they never judged him or made him feel like he had to be anyone else but himself around them. Petition for them all to mate with the McCarthy's (minus Calen because Darius) and create one big shifter/supe/immortal human clan. I also wanna see more of that funky little Logan/Mac/Cole situationship, right now, immediately. I'm intrigued af.

The mix of spice vs emotional/heartfelt scenes was fantastic. I didn't feel like I was being bombarded with sex, nor did I feel like I was being drowned in heavy emotions - while still somehow managing to experience both. I don't know how Lark does it, but they do it well. Both Reid and Evan had trust and guilt issues to work through, but they did it together and with therapy which was really great to see. The suspense of waiting for the Clarkson to FAAFO, and then the sprinkling of action to keep the overarching plot moving along was great too. You don't get chance to get bored when you're getting kicked in the nuts by emotions, body slammed by the plot, and titty twisted by that 5 star spice. You do, however, get a book hangover. So prepare yourself for that my wee friend.

As always, the cast of characters was colourful as hell (pun intended)! And I really enjoyed seeing familiar faces again. I found myself doing to little "I already know their backstory" excited wiggle with Micah and Benji (surely I'm not the only one who does the prior-knowledge wiggle?). I love that Lark has managed to create such a rich supernatural world and that we get to see these characters pop in from time to time. A+ storytelling.

5 stars. No notes. Feel free to emotionally wreck me with Calan.

Emotional wolf shifter x human, hurt comfort romance!

"For a split second, I’d thought Evan McCarthy would be my saviour. Instead, he’d condemned me."

From their first interaction in Finlay, it was clear that Reid and Evan's story was going to be filled with pain and hardship. To actually feel it was completely different. Reid's entire life has been affected by Evan's past actions. When they meet again, all that anger and hatred come rushing back making any connection in the present impossible to fathom. For Evan, knowing the consequences of what he thought was a simple action brings insurmountable guilt and a willingness to do anything to right his wrongs.

“Reid might not be my fated mate, but I believe he was always meant to be mine.”

Neither of them are bad guys, but they feel responsible for hurting the othee. Evan embodies some of my favorite parts of wolf shifters. He's protective and loyal and from the moment he sets eyes on Reid, his entire life begins to revolve around him. But those same qualities make him feel like a failure when it comes to Reid and keeps him at a distance from his newfound world.

"We were careening along a runway at top speed, with neither of us willing to put on the brakes. We might fly. But we might crash."

Reid feels everything in abundance. His empathy and his past trauma makes him extremely self-sacrificing. The moment he finally starts to let Evan and his love into his life is truly a changing point for him and them. It takes them both out of the dark cloud they're living under and finally brings the light back in.

'My lips found their way to his temple like it was a path they’d walked a thousand times before."

Just like in Finlay, I adored the McCarthy clan. They're so lovable and supportive and I love the way they opened their hearts and their home to Reid. He desperately needs that kind of care and they're more than ready to shower him with it. I also love Reid's friends. They're true ride or dies and I'm so intrigued by the potential storyline with them and Logan. But first we have Calan and omg I did not see his love interest coming!

"We were both drowning in the darkness. Maybe we could find our way back to the light together."

I love the Hopeless Blessed series and to get all those mentions of them was amazing. I can't wait to see how that world is going to tie into this one with Calan. It's sure to be a wild ride! But first, check out this wolf shifter x human, hurt/comfort romance. It's emotional and heartbreaking but also so soft and full of love!

I will start by saying DO NOT READ THE EPILOGUE 😂. Big mistake... what do you mean now I have to wait TWELVE MONTHS for Calan's story? No. No. NO. This cannot be happening to me.

The epilogues are snippets from the next book and they usually just drop a B and then BYE. So... yeah, don't read the epilogue.

With that out of the way, Evan... OMG THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING. Both Finlay and Evan are books about trauma, abuse and survival after being in toxic situations, but the stories are explored from different perspectives/paths of life. Both powerful, both heartbreaking.

Evan's story is a slow, slow, SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW BURN, but it is so worth it. Ahhhh, him and Reid are perfect, but in order to achieve said perfection they really need that time to come to terms with some of the things that are happening in their lives and also with the one's that happened in the past.

Reid's trauma is... it is heartbreaking to read about that, just as it was with Chester, and you feel helpless and enraged because how can this be possible? How can people like that even exist? What made it all better in both books were Fin and Evan. They are so similar, yet you don't feel like you read the same story twice and this takes talent with two stories that are so similar yet different.

Evan is... uff... he is such a precious soul and seeing him struggle was so hard for me. Not that Reid's pain was less or anything, I struggled with that too, but Evan had a different kind of t0rture to endure. Both of them grew so much in this book and seeing them struggle and then allow themselves to be happy brought me so much joy. They are fantastic.

To be honest, the whole group is fantastic, this is why I said don't read the epilogue, you don't want to know what you have to wait 12 months for... I am still in shock, but at the same time not really, but I am in disbelief...

I love this series, I am absolutely obsessed and I need to read all the stories from this universe cuz wth? I haven't been this obsessed with a series/universe in a long time and Finlay and Evan just... uff... they have me in such a chokehold.

I know my review is basically vague af and doesn't make any sense, but believe me, you want to go into this as blindly as possible and enjoy it.

I would start this universe from the beginning tho cuz when you get to Evan you will love the cameos and all the background knowledge... and avoid certain spoilers as well.

You bet I will re-read this multiple times before book 3 is out... there's no other way.

Ugh, the characters, the love stories, the friend group, the found family... PURE PERFECTION. ABSOLUTE PERFECTION.

I would be more coherent if that epilogue wouldn't have shocked me that much tbh...

10 stars, 10 fkn stars.

Yet another book in Taylor’s addictive paranormal universe.
Evan is a wolf shifter in the McCarthy clan, and has a heart of gold. He’d never knowingly hurt an innocent, especially a child. But he mistakenly leaves a child in a treacherous situation, and only finds out 13 years later when he meets the child, now a man, and sees how he’s been treated. Evan will do everything he can to protect Reid this time around.

This book has:
-human x wolf shifter
-wolf pack found family
-mates
-all the fun cameos you can expect in Lark Taylor’s universe
-hurt/comfort
-ADHD rep
-super protective wolfy bf

I will once again reiterate that Lark Taylor’s paranormal books seriously have something addicting in them. They ALWAYS manage to expand on an already extensive universe of gay supes with even more enjoyable characters. I love the crossovers, and this book once again made me excited for the next one in this extended universe 🤩

As far as Evan and Reid go, I enjoyed their dynamic. Evan is so sweet and protective of Reid, and is completely self-sacrificing. The whole McCarthy clan is full of sweethearts, honestly. Reid finally got the family he deserved 🥹

The plot of this book is pretty straightforward, very easy to follow. Yet again, more characters are introduced, but it wasn’t confusing. I have no idea when this universe will stop expanding, but I hope the answer is never. Because I’m gonna KEEP reading them!

This book had some fun spice, a cute romance, and fun supernatural elements. Don’t miss Evan 😍

If I find any grey in my hair, I blame Reid for that

Alright, listen: I get that he had a shitty past, and that he held a grudge against Evan. But I think it was a little too overkill- it was fine until it came to a point where it defeated all rationality and it just became frustrating to me. I was annoyed at seeing Evan groveling for something he realistically couldn't have done much about. The worst part was that Evan just took it on the nose and accepted being repeatedly treated like shit with little to no retaliation- that irritated me, because Evan is NOTHING but a sweet and caring guy.

That being said: I enjoyed the book, despite Reid's massive grudge. I loved the parallels with Finlay's timeline, and I absolutely looooved all of the cameos. The pack was incredibly sweet- and Evan's parents? Awww please can they adopt me? No because seriously, they're the best.

I'm curious about Logan's history with *the guys* (you'll know what I'm talking about) but what I'm even more curious about is the epilogue because DAMNNNN.

Here I am now, SALIVATING for the next book- oh this one's gonna be phenomenal. Please be phenomenal.

I recieved a free copy of this book and this is my honest review

3.5 Stars rounded up.

Evan is the second book in an mm shifter romance series. The main characters get their individual romance in this book, but there is an overall storyline, so the books are best enjoyed in order.

First of all, I loved Evan! He‘s the best! I‘m a sucker for wolf shifters with a protective streak and Evan? He was my perfect mc! He‘s the reason I have trouble rating this book „only“ 3.5 stars.

Overall, I enjoyed the story and I was invested in Evan‘s and Reid‘s romance. I enjoy Lark Taylor‘s writing style. It‘s easy to follow and her characters have depth.
But this story sadly couldn‘t fully land with me. I was a bit irritated with the parts that retold things that happened in book one. Yes, it made sense and there were time overlaps between the first and second book, but I think this could have been solved differently. It felt a bit redundant to me.
Also, the relationship progress and the progress of Reid‘s feelings for Evan were a bit too much like in the first book. Maybe this was just me, but again, I would have wished for something different.

Don‘t get me wrong, this was a solid book, but I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn‘t read the first book.

Thank you to the author and The Author Agency for gifting me an ARC. All opinions are my own.

Evan & Reid

Rating: 5 ⭐️

Oh boy.

I ugly-cried.

It didn't take long.

The first few chapters were heartbreaking.

And Evan was perfect.

But I understood Reid as well.

Evan is so genuinely - good?

When he realized who Reid is and gets an idea of what happened all those years ago? Pure heartbreak.
And poor traumatized Reid? Was lashing out at Evan always fair? Nooo. But I got why he did it.
And Evan took it in stride.

Gave him space, but never too far away.

And Evan's mom?

Fucking hell. That woman is hilarious 😸

You could feel how much everyone loved Reid from the start (especially Evan), even when he couldn't love himself.

God.

I just love Lark's books/ universe so, so much.

Once you start you can't stop.

I'd recommend you to start with "Devil's Mark" (Cal and Oscar) and just go from there, but I know those are a lot of books until you reach Evan.
I read most of them (totally worth it 😽), but Evan might be my favorite so far 💙💙💙

Oh, my heart ❤️
Evan and Reid have gone through so much together and Reid so much by himself

Reid family are the absolute worst people ever. Thankfully, Reid managed to escape them and live his life.
Until he sees Evan again, then one man who could have saved him.

I love the McCarthy clan is such an amazing family and absolutely what Reid needed to be able to realize he deserved love and happiness all along

Lark Taylor’s books are always 🤌🏼. Always so emotional and she doesn’t take shortcuts. It’s a long and intense story. It basically covered all of Finlay and then kept going!

I am so curious about Calan and Darius! Also the other demon. The one with agoraphobia. I can’t remember his name. He also has to get a book somewhere along the way!

These boys 🥰😍

This series keeps getting better, each couple just makes me more giddy and this world just keep growing and showing the connections

Read and Evan have had an invisible string attached to them for a long time , but old wounds are fraying their tether and they both need to realise they are stronger together than apart.

The twists, turns and Easter eggs in this book has my head spinning in a good way. Next book is already pre- ordered!

I enjoyed this shifter book for the most part. I liked the ennemies to lovers kinda vibe at the beginning and the angst that came with it.
There was a bit too much inner monologuing for my taste. The cameos from other series are also slightly confusing for those (like me) who did not read those other series

My poor Reid all the trauma he went through and continuously pushing Evan away. But I loved that Evan never gave up on him. I love how this didn’t filter the typical “mate” situation but I loved it just the same. I love how the clan treated Reid like family even though he’s family and protective of him. Now I’m definitely ready for Calans story!

Evan & Reid

I enjoyed this one quite a bit. Evan and Reid had me hooked from their time in book one and I was not disappointed. I can't wait for the next book.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion
