There is freedom waiting for you, On the breezes of the sky, And you ask "What if I fall?" Oh but my darling, What if you fly?
Wow. Just wow. I used to think Emily Dickinson was my favorite poet because I was never really into poetry, and I thought she was "pretty good" - but I was so wrong to think Dickinson was the best out there. Erin Hanson is my favorite poet, hands down. The way I connect with her poems is unlike anything I've experienced. She actually got me to love poetry. Well, at least hers.
The way she writes, flawlessly and effortlessly forming a picture in your mind is beyond me. Honestly, I'm shocked that she isn't more popular. If I had any power, I'd make sure this girl got more known and soon - she deserves it.
Now, of course there are poems in here that are better than the others - but that's to be expected. You're not going to love every single one equally. Though I will say, they are all beautiful and I didn't dislike any of them.
Ahhh, she is so good. Please buy her poetry book(s) and support her. You won't be disappointed! I promise!
I've read Reverie before buying this one and I feel that her writing skills are getting better each time. What I really like about Erin Hanson is that she can put deep thoughts and feelings into a melodic poetry, into a poem you'd understand. For someone like me to appreciate a poem, I need to understand it, love the harmony of the words and rhymes, and able to feel emotions in it - whether it may be gratitude, sadness, awe,... And Erin Hanson is an artist who paints her thoughts and emotions into a painting we can keep watching, finding details we haven't seen the first time, with colours that speak to our heart.
I've read once two of her poems to an elderly friend of mine. She had tears in her eyes after reading them.
Naturally, you won't like all of her poems as much. I've never read a book of a poet and like each and every poem written in it. Also, I believe that, depending on the person you are, what you've been through, your emotional makeup will influence the poems you'll like. However, I and many readers can testify to Erin Hanson's skills because with many of her poems she is able to reach hearts. It's a skill to write well. But it's an even greater skill to touch the hearts of readers. And I believe with poetry, that's what counts. I must add, though there wasn't a book where I appreciated all of the poems, I do find more poems I love in Hanson's books than in any other.
So, I'd say, check out her blog, and if you love her poems, buy the books.
Holy shit. I don’t even know what to say. I would give this book all the stars in the world if I could. Erin Hanson is by far my favorite modern day poet. I’ve never resonated with poetry the way I do with hers, and that’s saying something considering I love literature and read poetry that I resonate with all the time. I would sell my soul to be able to read these for the first time again. The way the imagery is so natural yet so effective, the way even the poems that I liked less than others made me feel something, god I’m just absolutely in love with it. I have nothing negative to say about this book. I will be re reading it until the day I die.
“There is freedom waiting for you, On the breezes of the sky, And you ask, “What if I fall?” Oh but my darling, What if you fly?” -e.h.
Have loved Erin’s poetry since I started following her on Instagram many years ago. Second time reading through her books and they just get better every time I read them.
These poems are very simple. I wouldn’t recommend this for people looking for more complex poetry, but I still really enjoyed it.
These books are a reminder that poetry doesn’t always have to be hard to understand. It can be simple while still being beautiful and portraying different messages.
The topics can be a bit cringe & Tumblr-deep that's why I'm only giving this book 4/5 stars but honestly Erin Hanson is such an underrated poet. Love love love poetry that actually rhymes as opposed to modern popular free verse poetry. It takes so much thought and intention to convey a meaning so precisely in sentences that rhyme (added difficulty!) and it takes talent and taste to present it in such a beautiful artistic manner. I can only dream of having such a way with words and such an immaculate sense of timing. Even though the book had no theme and was a rather random collection of Hanson's poetry ( just like #1) I liked the clean format and the switches between longer and shorter poems, although that is nothing special. Her poetry is full of iconic lines that absolutely blew my goddamn mind and she always ends each poem in such a satisfying way. It's like a whole poem leads up to the last few lines. Also love how consistent she's with her metaphors. She usually sticks with one idea/imagery throughout the entire poem and that is so difficult to maintain so I really applaud her for being able to do that.
Once again, motivational Facebook statuses meet very basic rhyming. Sing-songy meter alternates with clunky, poorly-handled syllable count. I think people should be good at writing before they self-publish books, but not everyone agrees with me. I am also reminded of two definitions.
1. Tripe
Something, especially speech or writing, that is false or worthless; rubbish.
2. Treacle
Something (as a tone of voice) heavily sweet and cloying.
Erin Hanson is my most favorite poet of all time. Her poems can make me think, laugh or cry. Her words are so powerful that I often can't finish them without shedding a tear. They strike me right in my heart. She has the true gift of bringing power to words and make you feel and experience. That's magic to me.
I love almost all the poems but to be honest, all the rhyming and rhythm of these poems are blending in with each other because there is no variation in the pattern of poetry. Reading one of the three books that she has is sufficient or I think if read once in a while in between other books, perhaps then you'll get a better sense of the content. I love the message after almost all of the poems but the pattern gets redundant and repetitive when reading consecutively.
No sure about this one. Yes, the poems run smoothly, but perhaps a bit too smoothly. It feels like the same formula is done almost each and every time. It is Hanson's personal style, but I would have liked some more variety on that style.
The messages behind the poems are most of the time comforting and soothing and I like the play on words in many poems.
More Erin Hanson and more beautiful, thoughtful poetry. If you’re searching for high brow poems you won’t find them here. What you will find many that are poems that are amazing nevertheless and resonate so strongly that the few grammar errors are easily overlooked.
She has done it again. Love this set, lots of heartstrings and the pearls. She is not that famous but her lines are simple, concise but can really make you feel and think... ❤️❤️❤️

A second volume of poetry in which you can delight from her particular rhyme and relatable situations. Some of my favorites are "The Meddling of Minds", "Our Weary World", "A+", "Unspoken" etc.
This one was loads better than the last. It made me feel like I should worship the earth, thank it for giving me a spot, and spend the rest of my days putting the atoms to good use. ♡
I loved it! Erin Handson writes beautifully and about super relate able topics. Her poetry is positive, encouraging, energizing, and uplifting. Some I found heartbreaking but for the most part they made me see myself in a better light and mad me want to make positive changes in my own life. I can't wait to read everything else she's written.
