There's a new nightclub in Gotham, and Selina wants to rob it. Enter Ivy and Harley as distractions, and- Wait, is that Despero?
The problem with the last series was that there were too many side characters sucking up page time, and the problem with this one is that the Sirens spend most of the five issues apart. The best part of the book is the first issue, where the three get to spend all their time together planning a heist, and after that, it's mostly just frantic fighting and yelling at one another. The fun of these three girls together is the chemistry and the lunacy that occurs when they ARE together, so splitting them up for 4 of the 5 issues defeats the object.
Haining's artwork is great though, matching the frenetic energy of the plot and never missing a step even with the weekly release schedule and 3 or 4 different colourists across the five issues. I've been a fan since Spirit World, and they've drawn some of the Poison Ivy series recently as well, so I know they've got the chops for a book like this.
Better than the last Gotham City Sirens mini that we got, but still not as good as I'd like.
Issue #5 doesn't seem to be on Goodreads, so I'll put my thoughts on the series, now that it's concluded, here. First, the art is gorgeous. The spacey costume designs for the Sirens are very fun (Selina's is my favorite, but Ivy's hair looked incredible through the whole series). I didn't really love the plot, as a big scary man exerting power to try to control women and compel them to do things they don't want to do isn't very fun to read as a woman. That being said, the girls still got to do some kicking butt, especially Ivy, and I always appreciate that. I hope for more Sirens adventures in the future.
I love this yearly tradition of hanging out with Leah Williams’ silly Sirens in these miniserieses. This one is way better than the first (I might even call it…. UNIRONICALLY GOOD?!) and has a really strong final issue, especially.
It’s kind of captures the vibe of watching the Harley Quinn show, if you’re a fan of that!
LOVED THIS !! Gotham City Sirens in space ravecore? YES PLEASE !! Also love the reference to Janet from HR from G Willow Wilson’s Poison Ivy run :D !!! I think the Sirens had really good moments of characterization too and they’re so funny together, I hope to see more of their adventures !
