Transform the mundane tasks of daily life into intentional moments of magical self-care, with spells, rituals, and exercises that work with your brain, not against it—from the co-host of the Demystify Magic podcast
Are the dust bunnies and clutter in your house getting out of control? Do you put off cleaning your shower curtain or organizing your closet until you can’t ignore the mess anymore? Imagine turning these mundane chores into moments of magic, where sweeping the floor or folding laundry becomes an act of spiritual connection and enchantment. But how do we bridge the gap between the ordinary and the extraordinary? That’s where Mundane Magic comes in, to help you focus on the intention behind your actions and tap into everyday magic with simple rituals and mindful moments, like whipping together a coffee spell for abundance or clearing out the stagnant energy under your bed.
Initially a skeptic herself, Molly Donlan’s journey took an unexpected turn when chronic hip pain led her to Reiki and the intersection of science and spirituality. She’s been where you are, overwhelmed by the weight of daily stress and household chores, but by injecting boring tasks with a sense of novelty and fun, she found magic practices that worked for her and her ADHD brain, rather than against it.
Organized by rooms around the house and divided by the level of difficulty, Mundane Magic shares fun and actionable tips, exercises, spells, and rituals to create micro-moments of magic and motivation. You can organize your chores around the moon cycles to optimize cleansing and creativity, whip up an easy simmer pot for the motivation to tackle that pile of dirty dishes, or turn a minty shampoo into a spell for mental clarity.
Mundane Magic offers a fun approach and empathetic support for productivity around the house and reclaiming joy and creativity in the process.
Molly Donlan is a Reiki Master Teacher, crystal healing expert, yoga teacher, and co-host of the Demystify Magic podcast who has dedicated her life to helping others unlock the transformative power of energy work and alternative healing modalities. With a background as an advocate for survivors of sexual violence and as a former skeptic of all things woo, Molly emphasizes the importance of trauma-informed care while teaching Magic through a blend of science and spirituality.
To the skeptics, yes, this is actually worth reading! Whether you believe in all of the witchy, magical stuff or not, this book is incredibly useful because it is based on real psychology! I love the author, Molly, because she has the perfect blend of spirituality and science, and explains it in an easy-to-understand way. Personally, I’m new to my spiritual journey and I’m still somewhat skeptical about some things. You don’t have to subscribe to ALL of the beliefs for this book to help! Go in open-minded and see where you end up.
I love how this book is that it teaches you how magic works & how your brain works, so that you can take advantage of your own psychology (in a good way)! It makes tasks that seem overwhelming feel manageable, even when you’re burnt out. I can’t wait to see how the little things in my life change as I implement ideas from this book.
Truly, there is no better piece of media than this book when it comes to self-care and healthy productivity. It makes self care and house chores fun, or at least, less of a chore. It brings a whimsy into the mundane, which is so important especially now.
Neurodivergent or not, witchy or skeptic, anyone will get something from reading this book.
This was exactly what I needed and definitely what I didn’t know I needed. The ease and accessibility Molly has gifted within this book is wonderful. I look forward to reading it again and continuously using it as a reference book.
Mundane Magic is exactly what I needed!! I struggle with being really, REALLY hard on myself when my home isn't sparklingly clean... and, it never is (hint: I'm pretty hard on myself regularly). Not only is Molly excessively relatable, down to earth, and silly throughout the book - she is validating and realistic. I may not be able to do everything in a day, but the book is so full of reminders of all the things I can do (and get to do)! Plus, turning mundane, everyday tasks into building my daily witchy practice? Dooooopamiiiiiine, IYKYK. Just like she teaches in her Reiki classes - 2 minutes a day is better than 60 minutes once a month... totally ready to make a Motivation Simmer pot and lock in! This book is *Chef's Kiss*
Just received my copy today and I am unbelievably excited. As a long time supporter and follower of Molly, I can confidently say this book is going to be helpful for ANYONE who struggles to keep up with life and home tasks for any reason. As a neurodivergent individual who really finds motivation through spirituality, this is so perfect for me. Making otherwise mundane tasks more fun is critical for someone like me and I can’t want to give this to friends and family who can benefit too!! The resources available in this book are so valuable and it’s clear so much time, intention and care went into the creation of this in every aspect. -Cassidy
As someone with adhd who was raised by a neurotypical mother I always felt like something was wrong with me for lacking motivation to tidy up. It just didn't click for me the way it did for my mom and I didn't see clutter the same way as she did. This also meant I never learned to clean in a way that was sustainable for me. Following Molly's mundane Magic series has been a game changer for me and now this book has filled me with more whimsy, inspiration, and motivation
If you're neurospicy, if you struggle with where to start in cleaning, if you just hate cleaning, if you want to add a little magic to your life, if you love when your house smells amazing, if you don't know what to do with those lonely socks... this book is for you. This book is for everyone!
Amazing book with practical tips for all! Whether you’re just dabbling in the magical or a season witch, a squiggly brain or “typical” brain… there’s something for everyone.
Mundane Magic is like having a spiritual bestie cheering you on as you start to tackle the tasks you've been putting off, one deep breath at a time. This book really focuses on you and how by making each small task a ritual you can give your brain dopamine and create more fun for yourself through that sense of novelty. Intention is so important in this handy guide to cleaning and decluttering your space. By setting intention you tell your space what you are calling in - it could be motivation, it could be self-love or it could be something completely different. I have tried this over the last week or so and really felt the energy shift and clear in a way it hasn't before. A favourite ritual I have tried from Molly's book is a simmer pot for banishing sickness, which smelled just like a hot cross bun and was something I could easily make with my 4 year old daughter and so far so good! I really love Molly's genius idea of scheduling certain tasks that need to be done monthly with the new and full moon and others seasonally with the solstices and how she explains this in an accessible way. Mundane Magic has inspired me so far to clean my living room from top to bottom, get through a significant chunk of laundry I had been putting off, cleanse and realign my daughter's room and completely declutter that pesky overstuffed cupboard - and I've only had the book a week. I'm feeling very proud of myself and my mood has been lifted as a result of the inspiration this book has given me. I'm feeling more connected with my spirit guides but also to myself. By making my environment more "me" I feel much more balanced and grounded already. The illustrations in Mundane Magic are so cute and beautiful throughout. I especially love the witchcraft and tarot symbolism on the front cover, the super sweet dust bunnies and the Churros in the little treat magic section. This is an author who is not afraid to let her gorgeous personality shines through every word. Molly is funny, engaging and really just like a best friend cheering you on from the sidelines. Working with this book has been a nourishing, compassionate self love spell in and of itself. The fact my house is looking so much cleaner and feeling energetically clearer is just a bonus, this book is so very much more than that and it's something that I will use and treasure for years to come.

How many times have I picked up a book thinking, "this is it, this will be the shift I need to change something in my life" and read it, loved it and yet, done nothing with it? Too many to count.
THIS IS NOT THAT BOOK!!! Within hours of holding it, flipping through and oggling all the amazing information, I was GETTING SHIT DONE AND ENJOYING IT!!! Have you ever heard that its easier to get kids to do things if you make a game out of it??? This is 100% the adult witchy hack version of it! Gotta fold some laundry, play a game of HOW DO I WANT TO FEEL WHEN I PUT THIS BACK ON? Have dished to clean??? Why not wash the negativity of the day down the drain with the left over food stains??? Sweeping the floor??? Lets sweep away the stagnant energy and sweep in the fresh perspective!!! Its fun, its simple and its INCREDIBLY ACCESSIBLE!
Also notable are the incredible appendixes for intention setting, recipes, potions and spells using every day items that can help add a little magic to your life. AND the organization of the chapters by area in the home to help make finding information easier.
This is not a religious type of witchcraft. There are no offering to the gods or Wiccan ideals (not that there is ANYTHING wrong with that). There IS discussion around moon cycles and season, but very much from a how to track the time perspective. This is your every day, every person, every belief system type of support to getting shit done around the house!
LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Note: I haven't actually finished the whole book, but this isn't the type of book you just read and put down. I'll likely never feel DONE with it.
I’ve been waiting almost a year for Mundane Magic, and I’m so excited it’s finally here. I have both the hardcover and the audiobook and honestly, I can’t choose a favorite.
Molly’s narration is warm and engaging (just like her podcast), but the physical copy is filled with beautiful illustrations that make it feel extra special. You really do need both.
What I love most is how this book transforms everyday adult tasks into meaningful rituals. It gently reminds us that just because we’re “adulting” doesn’t mean playfulness and whimsy can’t be part of our spiritual well-being. It brings back that childlike ability to make even ordinary moments feel intentional and calming.
And the ultimate review? My familiar, Rizzo, clearly approves! She may have even taken a tiny bite out of the pages as her seal of approval
Omg! If you struggle with keeping up with all the things in your to do list. If you think you have to always be productive and you're drowning anyway. If you want a more intentional way to approach life and your your spiritual practice. This is the book! Made for the squiggly brained and neurotypical alike. It's where science meets magic AND gives you permission to do it in the way that resonates with your heart, your values and your needs. Mundane Magic is excellent and Molly Donlan knocks it out of the park on the first try!
This is probably the prettiest book I own. I've been looking for a witchy book I can use as a reference rather than one I have to read linearly and it's so easy to do just that with this book. The layout is not over-stimulating, making it so easy to peruse for what I need to read.
And the lunar chore charts in the back!! Come ONNNN. Molly delivered the whole package. But honestly are we surprised?!
This book is life changing. Period. It really and truly is the lazy witches guide to existing. Filled with ways to make Mundane daily crap you have to do anyway and turning it into Magic. If you're looking at this book and thinking "I wonder if this will work for ME? I've already got a few self-helpy organizing books and they didn't work." I promise you the answer is yes. Get this book.
This book was amazing! It’s helped me come up with tons of low energy spells and get stuff done. I made the Thai cucumbers and I already made 2 simmer pots! User friendly and fun!
