Once again, a book from the Royal Houses series has wrecked me. House of Gods absolutely put me through it. I was mad, sad, absolutely giddy at times, and even shocked when the story took a turn I wasn’t expecting. Kerrigan and Ford were off on their own adventure and I loved exploring this new place even though admittedly I was not a fan of how things were run over there. I did enjoy the little glimpses we got into how the other characters were fairing due to the aftermath of the previous book. Their pov’s really added to the story and made sure we felt just how much Kerrigan and Ford were needed at home. Speaking of our main couple, they had me swooning! I loved seeing their growth and them becoming even stronger together. Their journey together from enemies to lovers has been one of my absolute favorites I’ve ever read. I am so excited for the next installment in the series, although I’m a little sad because it’s the last book.

Picking up right where the last book left off, House of Gods hit the ground running and never had a dull moment. Filled with many delicious twists and turns, this book delivered in every way possible. The Royal Houses series is compelling and addictive and I can not wait to discover what will happen next.

4.5 forever stars!
House of Gods picks up where House of Curses left off and, wow - what a ride! When Kerrigan wakes after she went through the portal at the end of the last book, things immediately don’t look good for her. She finds herself in a place she doesn’t know, in a cage she can’t escape, and Fordham is nowhere in sight.
Kerrigan learns quickly that she landed in Domara and the Doma rule everyone. They are gods in this land and they have the power and magic to do as they choose. She also realizes that there is one Doma in particular who wants her dead. However, she has never shied away from danger and she isn’t about to start now.
This story is a fantastic addition to the Royal Houses series! I am fully invested in Kerrigan and this world, and I found myself engrossed in the book. It’s fast paced and riveting, with unexpected twists making every new situation Kerrigan finds herself in much more challenging. There are enemies at every turn and it is hard to determine who she can trust. She realizes that even though she came here for a reason, she needs to find Ford and get back home even if she leaves without answers.
Kerrigan goes on an adventure that ultimately opens her eyes to who she is and what she needs to do. There are ups and downs and her life is always in danger but once Ford is with her, he will do anything to protect her and support her. Their relationship becomes stronger and they growth both individually and as a couple. My heart soared and swooned when they were together and though it took almost half the book for them to reconnect, the wait was worth it.
We get action, adventure, and more magic. Different magic. We meet new characters and see old ones, and get more depth to each of them. And all the while Kerrigan is still fighting for everything she believes in and will not give up. Her dedication and determination never wavers even when things are stacked against her.
At the end of the book, Kerrigan finally finds herself back in Alandria with some of her closest friends, but her life is still very much in danger from the Red Masks and their leader, and all the chaos and destruction she left behind when she initially went through the portal. She has only just returned yet she is ready to fight with everything she has. House of Embers, the final book in the series can’t come soon enough!! I need more of this world!

It is the time of year again when we get the latest installment in KA Lindes' latest fantasy series, Royal House's. For years, each fall, I am anxious with anticipation awaiting the next in a series, and find myself entangled in all the prior books in the series for a refresher before diving into the next. It's like rewatching a series you've seen before, and I enjoy it every year. This year was no different, and Kyla delivered on book 4, House of God's.
We jump right back into Kerrigan's world and follow her on her journey she must now face. Alone, and unsure of her future, she ventures on the other side of a portal in the land for the gods. The journey she goes on is full of adventure, despair, and magic.
The crushing thing about this book is that we are closely nearing the end of the series, and we have a year to wait for the final installment. In that time, I always enjoyed catching back up with this series on audio. It adds elements to the story hearing it read, and I enjoy that every year. I am sad we are nearing the end, but I truly enjoyed this one and can not wait to see how this story concludes.

Okay, uhm, I did not see that coming. This turned into a pretty fantastic portal fantasy with some interesting turns. It also ended on another cliffhanger and now I’m waiting on the edge of my seat for the next one.

House of Gods is the fourth installment in the Royal Houses series.
We continue to follow Kerrigan, a half-Fae, half-human heroine while she ventures into a new world of magic and a very different society. Kerrigan and Fordham face some expected challenges in this new world we’re introduced to and some very unexpected ones too. Their mission is very clear, however nothing goes as planned. The society has a very distinct structure, women are treated as slaves, and Kerrigan is thrust into a number of perilous situations while trying to get her magic back and save her world from the Red Masks.
K.A. Linde’s world-building really shines in this book, marked by rich details that immerse readers in a fascinating and well-crafted universe. The intricate details add depth to the narrative, making the new world truly intriguing and captivating. I wouldn’t mind to read another series set in this crazy world.
While romance plays a significant role in the story, in my opinion, it is lighter compared to previous books in the series, mainly due to Kerrigan and Fordham’s own struggles and the fact that they get separated in the beginning of this story. However, the deep connection between them is truly undeniable. I wasn’t a fan of their separation at first, but I enjoyed Fordham’s journey a lot and how it deepened his understanding of Kerrigan’s life events in their own world.
I expected more from the gladiator tournament, it was fun and entertaining, but I didn’t think the stakes were high enough. Also, it served a very specific purpose which was convenient to the plot.
House of Gods might not be my favorite in the series, but I sure did enjoy the top-notch world-building, the cool new characters, and catching up with my favorite ones in this intriguing new world. It’s a page-turner that left me eager for the next book. This series is perfect for fans of Fourth Wing.

TL;DR: Gladiators, gods, and one hell of a wild world. This isn’t the strongest installment in the series, but the world-building is chef’s kiss, and the plot kept me flipping pages like a woman possessed.

The House of Gods throws us straight into a bold new world, one that’s brutal, backwards, and bursting with fascinating magic. Kerrigan and Fordham’s mission was pretty straightforward on paper. In reality... A chaos-fueled detour into a society that makes their home look like a utopia.
The world-building here is next-level. K.A. Linde’s imagination truly pops off in this book, from the oppressive caste system to the spine-chilling gladiator pits. I could honestly read a whole spin-off just set in this land of gods, curses, and crumbling power.
Romance-wise, this one pulls back a bit. Kerrigan and Fordham are separated for a good chunk of the story, which at first had me muttering “again?” under my breath. But I ended up loving Fordham’s growth arc. It was satisfying to see him walk a mile in Kerrigan’s shoes and truly get her for the first time.
Now, about that gladiator tournament… fun? Yes. Bloodthirsty? Surprisingly no. It had the bones of something epic, but I kept waiting for the stakes to spike. Instead, it felt more like a stepping stone to move the plot forward than the heart-pounding centerpiece I hoped for.
Still, even if this isn’t my favorite book in the series, House of Gods held my attention. It’s fast-paced, packed with new characters I want more of (yes, Wynter, and the gods), and it sets the stage beautifully for what’s coming.
This series remains criminally underrated. If you're into political intrigue, dragons, complicated heroines, and fantasy that doesn’t hold your hand, Royal Houses deserves your attention. Especially if Fourth Wing left you with a book hangover.

House of the Gods is the 4th installment in the Royal Houses series and it cannot be read as a standalone or out of series order. Since there isn't much of a rundown of previous events at the start, no info-dumps, if you are a reader who needs a refresher, I do suggest a bit of a reread. If not, Linde does an amazing job of slowly revealing what had happened in the last installment without the reader being inundated with a pacing-destroying rundown.
Un-put-down-able. I told myself I could read a chapter or two before bed. Next thing I knew, I was finished and dawn had crested the horizon.
Zero spoilers, I won't give a rundown on events as I wish the rest of the readers a cover-to-cover in one sitting experience as I enjoyed.
House of the Gods starts off immediately after House of Curses ended. Kerrigan and Ford landed after being propelled out of the portal, only to end up in her birth mother's land. Kerrigan spends four hundred pages doing all she can to get back home and save her realm.
Action. Adventuring. Huge roadblocks in Kerrigan's way. Unexpected allies. Eon's old enemies. Heartbreak. Injustice. Fear. Gladiator battles. Family reunions, both good and bad. The making of friends and the tightening of relationships. House of Gods had the gamut of emotions from start to finish.
As Kerrigan suffers the absence of magic, she leans how to live and survive without it, so someday she may thrive with it.

This book settles it. A new favorite series of mine. I’m so excited for the next book, and honestly died a little when I saw it’s another year until it’s out.

In the beginning of the book I was so confused. We are in a completely different world, and have to learn everything together with keirigan. But I loved it so much, once she ended up with Constantine.
I hated in the last book how she lost her magic, but it was working very well in through the story in this one and all just made sense. Made the ending of this book just that much better.

It's been awhile since I found a series that I couldn't wait for the next book. This is one of them. The next book doesn't come out until October and already I can't wait! I'm loving the characters, the storyline, the different worlds. Can't wait to see how she wraps all this up. So many moving parts it seems. If you like magic, dragons, and fae check out this series. You won't be disappointed.

Surprise! I thought this was the end of the series - not! A fifth book is due out in October 2024, and I don't think it will be the last after reading this fourth book in the series.
That said, the story continues with many additional characters and complications. I enjoyed the changes and additions; however, I was also disappointed. When the third book ended, Fordham and Kerrigan were leaping through a portal together and Fordham was gravely injured. Yet they don't arrive on the other side of the portal together. Instead Kerrigan arrives alone, but does she ask about him? Does she look for him? Express any worry for him when she'd last seen him near death and bleeding? No. In the first six chapters, I think Fordham is mentioned once and not with a lot of worry or concern. So much for their "bond" and great love for each other. Kerrigan didn't even ask anyone about him. Granted, she was facing other circumstances, but I found her total lack of concern unbelievable.
Without giving anything away, let's just say no one reading this book will doubt the two will be reunited somehow - even if it is in less than an ideal way. However, after weeks apart, after getting bloody and dirty fighting as gladiators in a new realm, there's no "hi, how are you? where you been?" No. We have a "slam-bam-thank-you-ma'm" in a room where anyone could walk in at any minute. Are we talking lust or love here? I thought it was supposed to be love - where's the worry, where's the tears of joy at reuniting? Another unrealistic moment.
Yes, the story continues and is good and I loved the overall tale and its characters but, again without spoilers, let's just say there's another passage of weeks when Kerrigan and Fordham are together but apart - he's off brooding which I still don't quite totally get (can't say more without spoilers) but the result is that he ignores her for weeks and then suddenly there we are again - "Slam-bam-thank-you-ma'm" - seriously? He's not even talking to her and yet they end up in bed together and he's suddenly talking to her again?
Maybe this doesn't ruin the story, but it definitely affected the way these two wonderful characters were presented. Love turned to lust, and that's maybe not how the author meant it to happen but it was the takeaway for me.
It'll be months before the next book is out, and I doubt very much it will be the last book in the series. I never would have started reading the series if I'd known it wasn't complete because months from now, who's going to remember all the details??? Unfortunately, I've had this happen before. Sigh. I'll probably read the next book, but I'm not going to go out of my way. Because the fifth book is going to be about Kerrigan and Fordham's realm, but I'm betting there will be a sixth book that will take them back through the portal to rescue those they met on the other side. That means yet another year of waiting for a final outcome. Hopefully I'm wrong, and it will end at #5. Anyway, a good read, but disappointing as well as it relates to the romance being less than it was.

here we go again
SPOILERS AHEAD
ok i caved. we still haven't gotten a conclusion, but at least we're seemingly close to it. I'm glad kerrigan and ford got their mating bond back, I was afraid they wouldn't have gotten it back after it snapped. ford really needs to work on his communication skills though, he goes through something horrible and practically ignores her for weeks until ker almost gets killed again. it's happened twice already, first going to the mountain almost getting killed and now handling iris' trauma alone. hopefully they learn to rely on each other more bc i love keord together. I'm glad their soulmate bond is even stronger now with the help of keras, I really hope we see their wedding one day. I miss helly though, I can't believe she was killed just like that. the wynter and hook plot is even worse this book and I quite literally don't care about their relationship. I usually ship characters when they're implied in the beginning but after so much plot if they suddenly move on (especially with a character I don't care about) I don't vibe w it. at least this book was better than the last one. maybe bc I wasn't reading about racist villains constantly getting what they want all the time. my favorite point of views are ford and kers, the rest seem unnecessary. except for isas. ok i caved. we still haven't gotten a conclusion, but at least we're seemingly close to it. I'm glad kerrigan and ford got their mating bond back, I was afraid they wouldn't have gotten it back after it snapped. ford really needs to work on his communication skills though, he goes through something horrible and practically ignores her for weeks until ker almost gets killed again. it's happened twice already, first going to the mountain almost getting killed and now handling iris' trauma alone. hopefully they learn to rely on each other more bc i love keord together. I'm glad their soulmate bond is even stronger now with the help of keras, I really hope we see their wedding one day. I miss helly though, I can't believe she was killed just like that. the wynter and hook plot is even worse this book and I quite literally don't care about their relationship. I usually ship characters when they're implied in the beginning but after so much plot if they suddenly move on (especially with a character I don't care about) I don't vibe w it. at least this book was better than the last one. maybe bc I wasn't reading about racist villains constantly getting what they want all the time. my favorite point of views are ford and kers, the rest seem unnecessary. except for isas. I don't like her but maybe she actually has a change of heart. anywho, this was a long ride. I'm glad the cliffhanger wasn't so bad this time.

I think the author has a talent for story telling but alas I can not recommend this book to young readers!!!! The need to bow to the demands of our woke world is so sad! No place in the story was it made better because of the sexual activities of three misguided people. Young readers deserve better!!!!

Only complaint is the rehashing of things that happened in past books. Bit characters and story line fantastic. Only reason I keep trudging through the rehashing.

Another brilliant instalment in the story! I couldn’t give it the same 5 stars as the 3rd book but I still really enjoyed it!
Kerrigan is without her magic and is sent through a portal to find her mother and get help. She gets there and as she’s stripped of her magic but she is “fae touched” people think that she is a doma (a god). She is sold to a slave owner who offers girls out for their… services.
And she’s bought by a father and daughter so that she didn’t have to go to one of the cruel people that served the government in this other world.
She’s sent to dance lessons and we never actually learn what Kivren wanted to do with her as he “owned” her. But she manages to talk him into letting her into the gladiator tournament as if you win you get money and you are granted a wish from the king and queen. And she thinks if she wins she’ll be able to use the wish to get her magic back and help the people in her land.
She ends up finding Ford during the competition and he’s enslaved as well. And he thinks she’s an illusion at first. But when they come head to head in the ring he realises she’s real. They end up having to kill each other as they both reach the final of the competition. But just as Ford is telling Kerrigan she’s going to have to do it, her mother (the doma) steps up and intervenes and declares they’ll both receive a prize. Her mothers husband (the one who Kerrigans dad hid her away from in the first place) is furious that she undermined him and is convinced that Kerrigan is her mothers daughter but she convinces him otherwise.
Her mother gives Ford his magic back but it has to be tethered to her. And Kerrigan can’t have hers back but they don’t know why.
They learn that it’s because she is a doma as well as fae & the magic wasn’t taken away it was just surpressed. So they need to do a ritual to get it back. They do this & she is granted more power than she originally had from the stars.
When she has her powers back her mother transfers Ford’s bond of magic across to Kerrigan and they now feed off each others magic and make each other stronger. They get freaky and this reaffirms their mating bond also.
Her mothers husband finds them and wants to kill Kerrigan & her mother opens a portal back to Kerrigans world but it drains her magic and she has to remain behind as she is magically tied to her husband and he would only hunt her. So she snaps the magical bangle onto Kerrigans wrist to keep the portal open and they go though it leaving her mother behind.
In the end they’re reunited with her friends and their dragons, and Bastion is waiting for them. He came alone because he thought he could beat her friends and that she was just human. She manages to open another portal to somewhere else in the same world that she’s on & pulls all of her friends including their dragons through it.
She takes them to the house of shadows and knows that she’s going to have to face Bastion eventually but she wants them to be strong and wants it to be on their terms.
The final book will be the battle to reclaim control of their world I think. Trying to get her mother away from her vile husband and break the magical hold that he has on her. Possibly trying to heal her dad’s paralysed legs and learning how to do a different kind of bond to her dragon. As we learned that it’s because she is doma that she can’t bond with them in the same way that others do. So they’ve escaped for now!
And we end with Bastion in a rage & he knows that Isa has been working with Kerrigan in some way. And he finishes by saying he owns her. But we don’t know what happens to her, I think he’ll torture her but won’t kill her.

Thoughts:
This is a filler book... Obviously the main characters have to do a bit of level up because despite the sun shining out her ass karrigan had to escape possible death. So we end up in a different world where she is a slave, then a gladiator... And obviously the gladiators are all weak compared to her because they are entertainers. (I feel like ideas came from the gladiator movie, and hunger games) it was predictable who the final fight would be against. And it was predictable how it would be ....saved... It was nice to see karrigan powerless for a while... Despite ultimately of course the sun shining out her ass even brighter. Predictably.
The world building was not too heavy so it was a nice read of the other world.
I can't stand the term "mate" it's animalistic and wrong, especially for this portrayal of Fae and bonding. And I hated how ford could just blank her for days with zero communication then as soon as he wants he has sex with her with no pushback... Not realistic at all, and considering this is a Young Adult/New Adult genre it sets a bad example.
I'm glad the author didn't de-masculinate him entirely by the magic issue. I did generally think that was gonna be the route where "feminism" reigns and he would end up relying on karrigan the rest of the time, but the way it turns out is nice and unique. But again it's giving the FMC EVERYTHING.
I feel like kerrigans friends are only in this at this point to appease the "woke" script that is in literally forced into every book these days. Which is disappointing because they started off as so much more than that.
Lastly the story ends abruptly.... Like the end of a sentence of a conversation then done .... It's not a natural end point and it annoyed and jarred me
Amy Mcfadden does well with the voices, her accents were nicely done and she brought the characters to life really well. She did get them muddled a few times though which did get a bit confusing but considering she voiced a whole bunch she did well.
The next book isn't out till end of the month.
Overall so far the series has got better with each book. I had low expectations after book one and thought I would DNF by book 2. However it's been a gripping and mostly lighthearted story with strong protagonists and great friendship portrayed. The romance is a bit.... Sickly and at times unbelievable but it's not often enough to be a considerable issue. (But mate ... Come on... Fated bond is good, partner, betrothed, lover ... Anything but mate!) also have never been a fan of forced woke content in books either, but form the begining and the whole "I'm a minority" issue I knew it was gonna be pushing at the woke content anyway.
The dragon presence in this book is near the very end when they return. The reunion is sweet.
Overall this wasn't as good as the past couple of books in the series, but I suppose it was a necessity to show growth in character strength and a bit of back story of her parents. But it dragged out way longer than necessary.
I hope book 5 is the last as anything longer would be milking the series of its drive.

In the Royal Houses series, Kerrigan is a half fae who takes up the cause of the half fae and humans who are degraded and sometimes enslaved by the fae. She managed to win the tournament and get her own dragon, and become a member of the Society. The Society is sort of a law enforcement agency of fae on dragons, to protect the different Houses and their lands. This series needs to be read in order, as most urban fantasy, or be lost missing world and character developments.
It's hard at this point to review without spoiling some of the earlier books. I've really enjoyed learning all about the dragons and the magic in this world. In House of Gods, we find there are multiple dimensions accessed through portals. Kerrigan and Ford end up in a different one, not together, as she is trying to locate her mother for help. Their own world has been taken over by Red Masks.
Kerrigan had her magic stolen by the Red Masks and ends up sold as a slave in the new dimension, as does Ford. They finally find each other. I felt frustrated so much time was with only Kerrigan as a slave which felt like no progression on the overall series arc. They are both in a gladiator tournament to try to win their freedoms but the fight is to the death and the prize is not what they think it is.
I was horrified for them with having their magic taken or suppressed. I hated that they were slaves. Kerrigan's fate was primarily "which old man would she be sold to as a mistress" until she showed her fighting skills. The gladiator fights were fun but suspenseful. I was excited to learn more about her mother and family in this different place.
Ford and Kerrigan do get back to their own world and dragons. I thought House of Gods might be the final book, but no, this ends in a sort of cliffhanger, as much as the previous book. Kerrigan plans to save the world. Next up is House of Embers in October 2024.
Narration:
I appreciated having the same narrator continue with the series. I enjoyed the performance and rather different voices for males and females. The voices for Kerrigan and Ford are definitely easy for me to recognize. Kerrigan is the primary point of view. I was able to listen at my usual 1.5x speed.

L'avant dernier tome des Amants maudits me faisait languir depuis la fin du tome 3. La maison des dieux n'a donc pas fait long feu dans ma PAL puisque j'avais hâte devoir où l'autrice voulait nous embarquer. Un quatrième tome qui démarre doucement mais qui par la suite nous entraine sur des montagnes russes ! L'attente pour la suite n'en sera que plus difficile.
Il m'a fallu quelques chapitres pour me remettre dans le bain. Non pas que j'avais oublié les événements du tome précédent mais plutôt à causes des circonstances. Ce tome débute dans un nouveau monde, avec de nouveaux personnages et des coutumes très différentes. Résultat, il faut prendre le temps de découvrir tout cela avant de repartir de plus belle. Et comme son nom l'indique, les dieux seront de la partie. Et autant vous dire que les questions à nos questions que l'on se posait depuis le début auront enfin des réponses.
Côté romance, nos personnages sont d'abord séparés un petit moment. Est-ce que j'attendais le retour de Ford ? OUI. Clairement, le premier tiers sans lui m'a paru long. MAIS, une fois de retour, j'étais plus que ravie de la tournure de la romance. Vous savez, ces héros qui poussent les héroines vers le haut, ces relations qui débutent certes sur un Enemies-to-lovers mais qui finalement se révèle bien plus saines. Une confiance mutuelle, un couple plus fort ensemble et plus solide également. Un aboutissement de la relation donc. Même si les épreuves pour eux ne sont pas de tout repos, ils les affrontent avec brio. Ford et Kerrigan, c'est quand même quelque chose.
Côté univers, l'autrice étoffe donc encore plus ici. En plus des dragons, de la magie, les dieux font leur apparition en même temps que les nouveaux personnages. De nombreuses épreuves attendent Kerrigan dans ce nouveau monde, et les règles et coutumes seront à des kilomètres de ce que connait Kerrigan. Les femmes n'ont que peu de droits et ce tome est aussi l'occasion d'avoir pas mal d'action et notamment de combat, avec et sans magie. Le fil conducteur reste bien sur le méchant de l'histoire qui sévit toujours et que l'on continue de suivre via les quelques chapitres des autres points de vues et on sent que l'histoire arrive à son terme avec l'affrontement final qui se rapproche.
En conclusion, un tome 4 qui re-démarre lentement mais qui tient ses promesses. Un suspense toujours aussi présent, un univers qui ne cesse de se développer. Des personnages qui évoluent et une romance qui devient plus forte et plus belle à chaque tome. J'ai hâte d'avoir le cinquième volet.

HOUSE OF GODS is the fourth installment in the Royal Houses series, and it cannot be read as a standalone or out of series order. Since there isn't much of a rundown of previous events at the start, no info-dumps, if you are a reader who needs a refresher, I do suggest a bit of a reread. If not, Linde does an amazing job of slowly revealing what had happened in the last installment without the reader being inundated with a pacing-destroying rundown.
Un-put-down-able. I told myself I could read a chapter or two before bed. Next thing I knew, I was finished and dawn had crested the horizon.
Zero spoilers, I won't give a rundown on events as I wish the rest of the readers a cover-to-cover in one sitting experience as I enjoyed.
HOUSE OF GODS starts off immediately after HOUSE OF CURSES ended. Kerrigan and Ford landed after being propelled out of the portal, only to end up in her birth mother's land. Kerrigan spends four hundred pages doing all she can to get back home and save her realm.
Action. Adventuring. Huge roadblocks in Kerrigan's way. Unexpected allies. Eon's old enemies. Heartbreak. Injustice. Fear. Gladiator battles. Family reunions, both good and bad. The making of friends and the tightening of relationships. HOUSE OF GODS had the gamut of emotions from start to finish.
As Kerrigan suffers the absence of magic, she leans how to live and survive without it, so someday she may thrive with it.
I cannot wait until the next installment. While HOUSE OF GODS doesn't not end on a cliffhanger as previous installments, it does set up the epic battle to come.

Review: Kerrigan takes on the Gods in the penultimate book in this riveting series! Her and Ford are back and ready to fight for their kingdom as they battle the high and mighty powers of Kerrigan’s origin story. This book is packed full of magic, mystery and mayhem as Kerrigan travels through a new realm in search of Ford and her parentage!
Kerrigan is once again the slayer of odds in this book and her tenacity does not diminish at all in this part of her story. I LOVED the way she took on the loss of her magic and decided it would not weaken her. I also thought that K.A. Kinde did a wonderful job with creating the tense atmosphere she faces upon landing in a realm she is unfamiliar with and learning that Ford seemingly disappeared. The world that was created in this book was phenomenal and I felt like it really elevated this part of Kerrigan’s story since this book centers around her learning about her origins and where she came from. I loved seeing the parallels between this world setting and the Olympian Gods with Greek and Roman themes. It made me curious how this realm will play into future series and characters after Kerrigan’s story ends.
A huge part of this book was Kerrigan dealing with the loss of her magic. I thought the way K.A. Linde broached the matter was unique and intriguing since it led to the bond, she and her mother ended up forming. I also loved how Ford was there supporting her throughout it all. The book takes on a unique turn on the Cauldron aspect of Fae lore and how magical powers are bestowed and I felt like the scene where Kerrigan meets the Goddess was a pivotal point in this story.
This book also showcases the strength of Kerrigan and Ford’s mate bond. The way the two were drawn to each other across a foreign realm after it was ripped away from them showed just how fated this couple is. I enjoyed how neither of them are overly touchy feely but still encompass a feeling of everlasting love. The challenges and battles they both faced in this book makes me hope they get the epic HEA they deserve and I am anxious for the final part of their story!

Her and Ford are back and ready to fight for their kingdom as they battle the high and mighty powers of Kerrigan’s origin story. This book is packed full of magic, mystery and mayhem as Kerrigan travels through a new realm in search of Ford and her parentage!
Kerrigan is once again the slayer of odds in this book and her tenacity does not diminish at all in this part of her story. I LOVED the way she took on the loss of her magic and decided it would not weaken her. I also thought that K.A. Kinde did a wonderful job with creating the tense atmosphere she faces upon landing in a realm she is unfamiliar with and learning that Ford seemingly disappeared. The world that was created in this book was phenomenal and I felt like it really elevated this part of Kerrigan’s story since this book centers around her learning about her origins and where she came from. I loved seeing the parallels between this world setting and the Olympian Gods with Greek and Roman themes. It made me curious how this realm will play into future series and characters after Kerrigan’s story ends.

I didn’t know how much I was missing Kerrigan and Ford until I started reading this new installment in the series! Indomitable and resilient, Kerrigan forges on even in the most dire circumstances. Her heart is big, she wants to save her friends and the world. But she also wants to find her mother, now that she knows she’s alive.
She’s thrown through a portal into another world, the one where her mother lives, she looses contact with Ford and has to survive in very adverse circumstances. Her fighting spirit helps her endure and lead on, and surge into this different world and emerge somewhat victorious. She broke my heart when she lunges in teenager despair, as she feels alone and with the weight of all she wants to do to save her world.
“But she was only eighteen. She’d had to grow up on her own and save the world on her own. She’d always been self-sufficient. She’d always carried the weight of the world on her shoulders. For once, just once, she wanted to let it go. She wanted someone else—someone stronger and more powerful with more authority, an adult—to be the adult here.”
Fordham appears but he’s mired in captivity and with his powers subdued. I really didn’t know how the author was going to work this out, but of course she does, and brilliantly!
The adventure, the suspense, the dangers, and the estrangement from Ford, all kept me biting my nails as I read through the story. There is lots of magic, even if Kerrigan lost hers. She may not have her magic anymore but she has her spirit and her training and she’s a fine weapon.
I wonder at the author and how she conjures this magnificent world, full of magic and different realms, different creatures, varied governments, and keeps it all straight. It’s interesting and riveting, and it certainly kept me glued to the pages! Fantastic!

House of Gods is book four in the Royal Houses series and cannot be read as a standalone.
House of Gods finds Kerrigan in a new world without her magic. This new land is a mystery to her way to understand where she is, where Fordham is and how to find her mother so that she can hopefully regain her magic and return to her own world to take on the Red Masks.
Kidnapped by those she thought would be friends, Kerrigan discovers her only way forward is through the gladiator ring with a fight to the death and the hopes of winning a gift from the Gods.
This series has been nothing short of spectacular for fantasy fans. I will say, it took me a hot minute to get my bearings since it is a full year between books, and I did not reread the last before picking up this one. That being said, these characters are dynamic and unforgettable. Kerrigan is an amazing heroine who never gives up, even against the most crushing of odds . . . especially with Fordham at her side.
House of Gods gives us paralleles of the same story through different characters. We see what is happening on Domara with Kerrigan as well as how those left behind are faring at the hands of the Red Masks on Allandria. There is much suspense and nonstop action as both worlds are set in chaos with those in charge not having the best interests for anyone but themselves.
I adored the new characters introduced in House of Gods and truly hope to meet with them again in the final installment. And, I loved that even though most of the action was taking place in Domara, we got to see what was happening on Allandria through Kerrigan’s friends and allies.
Thrilling and full of adventure and journeys of self discovery, House of Gods did not disappoint. 4.5 stars.

Fourth book in this amazing series. You won’t really be able to read this book without reading the others first, it will make more sense to read in order.
Book four starts where we left book three (House of Curses) ….
Kerrigan and Ford reemerge from a portal to find out they’ve come out in her mothers land!! (I’d like to say more, but I don’t want to spoil anything)
Then Kerrigan tries fighting her way back to her own realm and people (and that’s when it gets interesting)
If your looking for a recap, it’s best you go back and read through book three (which was what I did) we don’t get bogged down with previous information (which in this case would have been helpful, as it’s been a while since book three was released)
I couldn’t put it down once I started. The action is fast. The words just flow off the page and into a wonderful read. (I’d watch them if ever considered for a series or set of films)
This plays with all of your emotions. We meet new and old friends, new allies are formed. Betrayal/battles/twists and turns. Heartbreaking moments that will have you reaching for the tissues 😢 and a family reunion that could have gone either way!!
I loved the gladiator battle, very descriptive (almost a Russel Crowe moment) Felt sad that Kerrigan is without her magic at the moment, and you kept hoping she’d find it. But instead we watch as she overcomes her lack of magic, Kerrigan is nothing but resourceful.
The ending came far too quick, and now we have to wait for the next book.
It’s not a cliffhanger ending, but it does set us up for I’m assuming the last battle and book.
And I can’t wait.
