Thank you to Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op and
Fiona Embers for sending me a review copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. At first, I was convinced this was going to be one of those stories where two strangers hook up after a chance encounter, maybe a classic case of mistaken identity thrown in for good measure. I couldn’t tell you exactly why I thought that, but I did. However, the story took a completely unexpected turn, and I ended up enjoying it far more than I expected.

Joe and Liz are incredibly layered, emotionally complex characters who have clearly been shaped by the pain and baggage of their previous relationships. When they meet by chance at a bar, what begins as a casual hookup quickly reveals itself to be something much deeper, I really liked Joe and his character. He did come across quite persistent and didn’t know how to take no for an answer at times. However, I really liked how authentic and grounded both characters were. Their interactions were refreshingly real, full of vulnerability, tension, and moments of genuine connection.

The supporting characters were just as compelling. I was especially drawn to Liz’s older brother, Bobby, and his developing relationship with Trey. Their subplot added another engaging dimension to the story, and I found myself just as invested in their dynamic as I was in the main couple. I’m genuinely curious to see what might unfold between them in the future; whether it’ll be a second chance romance between them or not.

Overall, this story defied my expectations in the best way, and I had a fantastic time reading it.

I signed up for this arc because the blurb really intrigued me and I am so glad I did because I had such a good time reading!!

Their first encounter was cute and carefree, but also awkward in the most adorable way, two strangers who weren’t planning to spend the night with anyone else.
it felt so real and authentic!!

Liz had just come out of a seven year relationship , and Joe himself had been in a long relationship as well. She was in a relationship where she always felt like she wasn’t good enough. But this story is so much more than just a girl getting over a breakup!! It’s about a woman trying to find herself. What she likes, who she really is when she’s on her own. She learns that she doesn’t owe anyone anything, only herself. It was so nice to see her become a woman who finally knows her worth.

And Joe—the way he takes the time to learn what she likes because he puts her pleasure before his own! A real man with no expectations, who just wants her. The full package. The real package.
What I loved most about him was his vulnerability—the way he openly talks about his insecurities and what bothers him. It made my heart break for him. I also appreciated how he’s pro therapy, especially since there’s sadly still stigma around it.

I loved reading about Joe’s and Liz’s growth and development—not only in their relationship but as individuals. Seeing both of them finally let go of the past and find real happiness was everything I wanted for them, and it was so heartwarming to witness.

Thank you so much NetGalley and Fiona Embers for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Newly single Liz walks into a crowded bar to catch a Vikings game and encounters divorcè Joe who’s been waiting for his brother in law to meet him for drinks and a catch up. A particularly frazzled bar back tries repeatedly to get both Liz and Joe to give up their respective tables as the bar fills with patrons, and the inconvenience becomes a meet cute for them.

After a fashion they realize their attraction is undeniable and after a few moments of PDA-lite, they decide to go back to Joe’s apartment and see where the night takes them. After some intense making out, they decide to have a short term casual affair, the end date TBD.

Real feelings soon come into play, but bug life choices must be made; will those plans include each other?

This was a short, open door multiple love scene novella. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 due to some fairly cringey descriptors during intimate scenes which took me out of the moment.

I was furnished an advance reader copy from Booksirens, and I’m sharing my honest review.

To be 100% honest - this book didn’t hold very high expectations going into reading. But here I am, 3:30 am after just “one more chapter,” completely in love with Liz and Joe! This book was beautiful. I love how patient the MMC was and how determined the MFC was to stay true to herself. The spice was an added bonus to such a healing and heartfelt story.

The only thing I would change in the story is their pick in a NFL team - Go Pack Go! 🤣

Thank you to the author and NetGalley for providing this free arc. All opinions are my own.

First Person dual POV 4/5 stars

We follow Liz and Joe after a chance meeting in a bar while they're both recovering from the end of their respective long-term relationships.

I really enjoyed a lot of the themes touched on in this book. First and foremost we're looking at two people who are coming to terms with the end of their relationships and how this has effected them in the long run. There's quite a lot of self reflection from both characters here.

One major aspect that I really loved was the included representation and focus on men's mental health. We learn early on the Joe sees a therapist to help him cope with the feelings he has surrounding the end of his marriage.

Although this wasn't as spicy as anticipated from a book categorised as erotica, I really enjoyed the intimate scenes in this as it showed two relatively normal people discovering eachother and showing the other that they ARE very attractive without upholding the typical beauty standards for both women and men.

The only downside here is that Liz seemed quick to anger in the beginning whenever Joe suggested a relationship while internally implying disagreement with her own words. This is something that gets sort of addressed later on though.

Overall, I quite enjoyed this. It's a good read about self-reflection and moving forward while remaining low stakes.

New to me author came up on NetGalley and the cover intrigued me. It says it’s book 2 in a series but that it’s more of a prequel than a continuation and so it feels like it’s appropriate to read it first ( can’t wait to pick up the story of Roxie next).
4.5stars
This is a portrayal of two very “real” people experiencing heartbreak after they both have had relationships end. They have meet-cute that leads to an amazing night of intimacy. The book describes these two as having “normal” body types with a little around the middle and not perfect looking. I love that aspect as we are also able to feel their connections. We also see them while they sort through the emotions of their previous breakups. Great therapy representation that I applaud. There are some other family drama moments to work through and each main character has some emotional growth that we get to witness. It feels like how a real relationship evolves. All the warts and bumps in the road.
There’s some spectacular spicy moments that feel so raw and real as each character explores the other and stretches their boundaries. Loved it. I highly recommend!

I read Shoot your Shot and absolutely loved it last year, so I was absolutely thrilled when I got the email telling me about this arc being open!

Soft Rebound was great. It was a fun read. I loved the characters and was invested in finding out how everything wrapped up for each character.

I’m a sucker for a MMC who falls first and who is an absolute Golden retriever boyfriend. Mr Joesph Lawson esquire is just that!

Huge thanks to the author, NetGalley, and everlasting publisher for the arc!

I enjoyed reading this book. I loved the banter and chemistry between the FMC and the MMC. They stumble upon each other in a bar after she moves to a small town to get away from her family and a failed engagement.

She tends to push him away fighting her feelings and he tries harder to make it work because of the feelings and chemistry they have for each other. Even with their own baggage they bring out the best in each other.

I love the body positivity as both the FMC and MMC are curvy. Liz feels her size is an issue due to her ex making her feel that way but Joe ensures her there’s nothing wrong with her. The spice level between these two 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Liz’s brother Bobby is a huge support for Liz during this time and she also ends up being his biggest supporter when he comes out to his family.

This story is about Joe and Liz who have a chance meeting. Joe has been divorced for a couple years and Liz has just recently broken up with a long term boyfriend. Their chance encounter turns out to be fate intervening because they hit it off splendidly. This flirty banter and chemistry is spot on. Joe ends up being the first one to cave, knowing they would be perfect for each other. Liz takes a lot more coaxing from Joe to really trust and open herself up to a deeper relationship. She was in a vulnerable place in life when she met Joe but it was so wonderful to see their HEA unfold. I will be looking for more books from this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and Evernight Publishing for the opportunity to read Soft Rebound by Fiona Embers.

This is the first book I read by this author. I did not read the first book and I honestly don’t feel it’s necessary.

Liz is starting over in a new town after a bad breakup with her ex-fiancé. She has found a place to live and has a list of things to do but first she decides to enjoy a football game at a bar. Sitting alone, a random dude decides to sit with her so they do not have to give up their table.

Joe is a divorcee of 2 years. He’s found a rhythm in his life and has agreed to meet his ex- brother n law for a drink at a bar. Unfortunately, his ex-brother n law has to cancel at the last minute. The waitress is trying to give away his table since the bar is crowded. He sees a random woman at a table by herself having a similar conversation with her waitress and decides to share her table with her so they don’t have to sit at the bar.

That is where their story begins. I felt the beginning was a little shaky but now thinking of it, this author wanted us to feel uncertain due to the characters having their own insecurities. The title is every bit of a soft rebound. It’s raw, honest and vulnerable. I appreciated how realistic this author was with these characters and their lives.

I truly loved Joe and Liz. I loved them as individuals and together. These feel like real people we all know and can relate to.

I recommend for romance book lovers.

This book had me at being set in Wisconsin, I enjoyed it immensely.

Liz has uprooted herself from St. Cloud MN to Madison WI after her fiancee calls it off. A chance encounter in a bar brings her to Joe, also a Minnesotan in Wisconsin, drinking New Glarus and waiting to catch up with his ex-brother in law. They share an instant connection and a hot night. But, Liz is scared to move on to something right away. After what feels like seven wasted years and not really living for herself, she wants time to just be herself. Joe has his own issues from his ex-wife who after 10 years of marriage said she didn't ever want kids. This left him with some scars. But, what was at first a rebound felt like so much more. Is their rebound really for forever?

I think what I liked most about this book is how real it felt. Neither of them is described as particularly skinny -- in fact, they both have a bit of a belly. But Joe LOVES all of Liz's curves and big ass. And, their separate issues were so relatable. And Joe sees a therapist -- love a mental health rep especially for a MMC.

Seriously, this was just a delight. I'll definitely be going back to read the first one in the series and watching for the books from the other characters. (Hello, Bobby!! (can he and Trey actually make it work please???!))

The first hookup after a long relationship is always meaningless. Right?

This book is about Joe and Liz and how an unexpected meeting can lead to their happily ever after.
The chemistry between Liz and Joe is intense and fueled not only by their sexual attraction towards one another, but also through their banter. They feel comfortable with each other which catches them both by surprise.

Joe is a kind, empathetic man who does not shy away from difficult situations. He is in therapy, and we see that Joe is very open with telling his therapist the ins and outs of his life. When Joe hurts Liz or is in the wrong, Joe is quick to apologize and not be defensive. When he meets Liz, his friend is able to see a side of Joe that is happy and bubbly, a side he did not know Joe had. Joe worships every single part of Liz and let’s just say he definitely knows what he is doing. To say that most readers will have crushes on Joe is an understatement

Liz is on the heels of her engagement ending and figuring out what is next for her while trying to navigate her strained relationship with her parents. Liz moves away from the people and surroundings she has known all her life to start over somewhere new. This move helps Liz to see her past relationship and her relationship with her parents for the unhealthy relationships they had.
Liz and Joe must go through their own journeys to not only better themselves, but hopefully to find each other again.
Both Liz and Joe have great support systems that are not afraid to give them the advice that at times is not easy to hear but needed. I loved Roxie, Bobby and Trey.

The characters were real and relatable, and I felt like I was right there with them during the entire book. The characters went through real-life struggles in real ways. Fiona Embers is very skilled in writing about difficult topics with empathy while staying true to how the characters felt.

Liz and Joe’s story will stay with me forever. I loved this book and look forward to reading more by Fiona Embers in the future.

Much more than two strangers meet in a bar and get it on . This book is so much more ,even demure and pure of heart for a start. Two jilted lovers who want to do amazing things under the covers with someone who attracts. Joe Larson has been going through the motions since his divorce two years ago but when he meets Liz Jensen ,his head and his pecker are raised . She’s just fresh from a breakup , a broken engagement no less so it’s perhaps the wrong timing but he vows to impress. Put it out there that he Joe Larson does care and no matter what defences she puts up she won’t be unhappy with this chappy in her life. Love is not losing the power in their rebound fling . They may accomplish something good . This book is sweet, hot and so good . He’s not one to be understated nor misunderstood and he’s not only out to use and abuse her with his wood . Bruise her and lose himself in her folds and hoping for a future she holds true at the same time . He has it bad and what’s more he’s no cad . He’ll prove to Liz that he’s a safe bet yet ..Sublime! This book by Fiona Embers packs a punch on the levels of heat and it’s endearingly sweet too so phew and aw. It’s love and more . The writing too deserves an encore I’m sure you get by now ,I liked everything about this book and it didn’t take long to be hooked.

Thankyou to Fiona and team for an ARC copy of this book. I haven’t been paid to leave a review and these are my own thoughts.

This is the second book within a series, however I haven’t read the first one and still very much enjoyed it so can be read as a stand alone.

The book starts with a meet-cute between Liz and Joe in a bar within Wisconsin. Joe has been divorced for 3 years while Liz has recently left her hometown after her fiancé called off their engagement. Joe and Liz seem to hit it off and have a steamy night together but Liz quickly runs away after the fact, stating she’s not ready for anything right now.

The book is in Dual POV and follows the trials and tribulations of Joe and Lizs relationship over roughly just under a year from their first meeting. This story is hot and heavy and the spice was great, and starts pretty early on.

The side characters brought just as much to the story as the main characters in my opinion, and would love to hear more about Trey and Bobbys relationship!

If you’re a fan of runaway girl, he falls first and hard, and romantic suspense then this book would be for you.

Soft Rebound by Fiona Embers is more than just a steamy romance—it’s a heartfelt story wrapped in emotional depth and genuine connection. While the spice is certainly present and well-written, what truly stands out is the chemistry between the two lead characters. Embers crafts a dynamic that feels both electric and endearing, making you root for these two every step of the way.

Both characters come with emotional baggage, and their journey toward healing and love is equally tender and passionate. The author does a fantastic job balancing the intensity of the romantic scenes with moments of vulnerability and warmth, creating a narrative that is as emotionally satisfying as it is seductive.

With vivid detail and a natural flow to the storytelling, Soft Rebound delivers a romance that is both hot and heartfelt—perfect for readers looking for a story that sizzles and soothes in equal measure.

Awkward and adorable. Two strangers. Meeting by chance at a bar.
Liz is newly single after a seven year relationship - one where she eventually realised the difference between building a life with someone you love and adore, and settling for a life you think you deserve because you believe that’s all you're worth. But in truth, you deserve so much more.
What starts off feeling like the story of a girl getting over a breakup quickly becomes so much more. It's about finding yourself - and discovering your true worth.

Then there’s Joe - a divorced man who hasn’t been with anyone since his marriage ended. Not because he’s hung up on his ex, but simply because he hadn’t felt the need. He enters Liz’s life somewhat quietly, giving her space to find her feet in this new chapter. He has no expectations, other than wanting her to be okay.
What really resonated with me is that Joe is a man with real feelings. He’s open about his insecurities, his need for therapy, and his willingness to be honest, some may say even brutally so, in the best possible way.
My only gripe is that, at first, he comes across as a bit pushy - struggling to take no for an answer while Liz is clearly trying to figure out what she wants from life. Thankfully, with a little help (mainly from his therapist) and the fact that he actually listens, this issue fades pretty quickly.

What begins as a chance encounter at an overcrowded bar and with a bartender literally throwing them together - becomes a heartfelt portrayal of real people with real body types (which I love to see!), navigating heartbreak, a one-night 'stand', and ultimately something so much more. Obviously.

The growth and development of both characters, individually and together, was beautifully done by the author. The struggle between letting the past dictate your present and shape your future is something many of us can relate to—and seeing that moment of release is both heartwarming and refreshing.
I also appreciated how the side stories were woven into the main narrative. They felt natural, relatable, and added depth—just like in any real-life relationship.

Soft Rebound is the second book in the Mad City Moments series, but it reads much more like a prequel. When I first applied to read this, I expected more of a dark romance theme, but what I got was a lovely contemporary romance with some open-door spice.

This was a short, fun, and very real romance, an ideal palette cleanser.
I’ll definitely be going back to read more from this author.

Thank you so much to Happily Booked PR & Fiona Embers for sending me an early copy to read and review.

This book was what I was hoping for when i read the description.

Joe is the typical recently-ish divorced adult male, but is larger than life (literally). And Liz is sick of living in her family’s footsteps and wants to do something for herself, hence the bar, Joe, and the beer.

My favorite part about Joe and Liz is they aren’t the typical body types. Particularly mentioning Joe had a bit “around the middle” and Liz having a big ass and curves Joe loved.

I also enjoy when a story can be read as a standalone.

I’d definitely enjoy seeing more of Trey’s story, and was a little sad by the end, but hoping for more to come!

3.75🌟 for me.
Thanks to both Netgalley and Evernight publishing for allowing me to read this ARC. I struggled with the first few chapters. I found the sentence structure particularly challenging at times, and wasn’t sure if this author’s writing style was for me. There’s a few moments I’ve found myself eye-rolling - like that wouldn’t really happen surely!? However, this settled down and I found myself really enjoying the story. I struggled with the MMC’s lack of respect for FMC’s boundaries, and I think his behaviour would’ve given a fair few women the ick to be honest. Overall, I really enjoyed the character growth throughout the book and the use of diverse characters (he doesn’t have a 6 pack hurrah!). I really loved the side characters, and I’ll be reading Fiona’s first book in this series so I can continue Roxie’s journey. This author writes characters you can easily become obsessed with. Can we have a Bobby and Mickey book please? ❤️

Soft Rebound was a phenomenally fast paced steamy romance book. It has several funny but relatable moments. While I have not read the first one in the series, it does not seem as though they rely on one another. I do in the future wish to read the first one but I loved this particular book very much. I am not a huge fan of changing points of view but the author did really well to make it all work together and feel as though both points were needed. Would definitely recommend if this is a genre you like and reminds me of the Salacious Player's Club Series by Sara Cate.

A prequel to Fiona Embers’ book ‘Shoot Your Shot’, this is an excellent follow up, exploring the blossoming romance between two supporting characters from the previous book, Joe and Liz. Its themes of romance blossoming from a fling, finding love post-divorce, body positivity and attractions causing characters to reassess of what their ‘type’ really spoke to me, with a well-rounded characterization from the leads, believable moments of self-doubt and desire and all without making them seem like different people from the last book.

Not to mention Embers can write a hell of a steamy scene of passion. The moment on the hood of the car stuck with me long after reading it!

Also, enjoyed the cameos of the leads from ‘Shot’.

I highly recommend ‘Soft Rebound’ if you enjoy passionate romance and smut. Go check it out and its companion book. Looking forward to what other Mad City moments will come from Fiona Embers.

✨ Book Review ✨
Soft Rebound by Fiona Embers
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75/5

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one, but Soft Rebound surprised me in the best way. Liz and Joe are two people fresh off heartbreak, both bruised from past relationships and not looking for anything serious… until a chance encounter at a bar flips the script.

Still nursing his wounds from a divorce, Joe’s life is on autopilot until one electric night with Liz changes everything. Their chemistry? 🔥 Off the charts. But Liz has her own scars, fresh from a broken engagement and determined not to let anyone in. What starts as a rebound quickly turns into something deeper, softer, and beautifully messy. 🖤

Joe is bold, persistent, and emotionally raw.. sometimes toeing the line of too pushy, but ultimately, he’s a man trying his best to open up again. Liz’s journey, though, stole the show for me. It’s not just about falling in love again, but about rediscovering yourself after being made to feel like you weren’t enough.

It wasn’t the kinkiest read for something labeled as erotica, and a few scenes didn’t hit quite right for me in terms of chemistry. But what it lacked in spice it made up for in character growth and heart.

This book is the perfect mix of steamy tension, emotional growth, and second-chance healing. I was totally rooting for Joe as he battled his fears of vulnerability, and Liz’s journey to trust again was raw and relatable. A quick, heartfelt, low-stakes read about learning to trust again. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys emotionally driven romance with just enough heat.

A bit of drama, an insecure but tenacious heroine and a broken but determined lawyer make an excellent read in this steamy tale of love and romance. Liz is quite the character with her stubborn independent streak as she struggles to maintain her personal freedom from Joe, the guy she meets at a crowded bar. Her skepticism keeps her guarded a-bit too much as Joe trues to get closer to her. These characters are very believable and likable too. Loved this storyline which kept things interesting and exciting.

3.5 stars. I enjoyed the idea and the instant connection they had. There were plenty of steamy scenes. But I found both characters annoying at different parts of the book. Liz and Joe meet in a bar, when Joe's ex brother in law stands him up. Joe starts a conversation with Liz and they it it off. After confessing that they were both after a fresh start to their lives they really began to see each other. But they are not the only ones with changes on the horizon. Good read.

SOFT REBOUND is part of the Mad City Moments series. This was a steamy, instalove, opposites-attract, one-night-to-more romance. Joe and Liz meet after they are placed together at a table in a crowded bar. Joe is divorced and still dealing with that trauma. Liz is fresh out of a broken engagement with her own baggage. They have a hot, cute, hookup but real feelings develop. But Liz is not looking for more. These two had great chemistry and we ended on a happy note after some angst. This was my first book by this author but hopefully not the last.

This book genuinely surprised me. In all honestly at the beginning I wasn’t really feeling it however a few chapters in it was much better. I enjoyed that the characters aren’t your ‘typical’ appearance in books and the story told us about the characters past relationships which led to this moment.

I do however feel that the mmc in this story was slightlyyyyy pushier than what I would have expected.

All in all I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others looking for a quick cutesy romance.

Thank you to Fiona Embers, NetGalley and Evernight publishing for giving me access to read this Arc. Fiona I can’t wait to read more of your work in the future 🫶🏻

Ok I really fell in love with these characters.

Liz and Joe are real life. This is how I’ve seen a lot of relationships hit or miss in real life. We get so guarded after being hurt by a past love that we miss the one who is actually so good for us. Or we get so hurt the moment we find the one person we connect with, we’re ready to dive in head first without any caution whatsoever and it backfires. I am one who can relate to how both of these characters dealt with life post breakup. This story fully immersed me and I kept saying “one more chapter” until there were no more chapters.

I was even fully invested in the side characters. Bobby reminded me of my little brother. The brother/sister relationship Liz and Bobby had was everything to me. We’ve even gotten closer after being adults and understanding each other more clearly. And our older brother is so similar to their other brother it’s crazy!
I need a whole book on Zack and his quest to get the girl because just like that old lady in line who didn’t know much, I was also rooting for him lol.

Overall, this story hit in more ways than I expected it to. Great writing Miss Embers. I cried and laughed and got angry. These books that always make me feel like I’m in the room with the characters are the best! I look forward to more of your work.

Thank you to Happily Booked PR for the chance to read this book.

Two people completely disillusioned about love, Liz and Joe didn’t seem like they were going to get past the barriers they had created for themselves. The chemistry between these two is amazing. He’s definitely a pushy alpha. The characters are really well written and I was just as into the sub plot stories as I was Liz and Joes. I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it, it’s a good read.
