In FRIENDLY FIRE, after a roadside bomb ends his career in the marines, Logan Wilde struggles to put his life back together. When he takes a job as a sheriff in a small Idaho town, he expects a quiet, peaceful life that will bore him to tears. However, Logan hides a painful secret: He suffers from sleepless nights and flashbacks that come out of nowhere, and anything can be a trigger. From the moment the new sheriff walks through the door of Julia Cooper's cafe, she fights the attraction between them, especially after Logan shoots a carafe right from her hands when he's startled by a car backfiring in the street outside. Julia has seen that wild look before: She saw it in her father's eyes right before he shoved a gun to his head and killed himself. Julia decides she needs to meet someone average, someone who has never handled a gun. Everyone is convinced that her daughter's teacher is the perfect match for her, but when she's with him, she misses the sparks that always sizzle between her and Logan-and when her daughter goes missing, it's Logan who's there for her, Logan who searches with her, and Logan she leans on. Worse, Logan suspects that the teacher knows something about the disappearance, and he may not be the safe, dependable guy Julia believes him to be.

Maybe a 2.5. First I want to say that I didn't rank this so low due to the writing. The writing was good, the story however felt rushed from the beginning and instead of delving deep into the characters we got a surface story. I knew from the synopsis that Logan had PTSD and was the new Sheriff and there was going to be drama. My first question is, should a man suffering from such severe PTSD that he'd shoot a coffee machine in a restaurant because of a car backfiring be Sheriff and carrying a gun? Shouldn't there have been repercussions both personally and professionally? I would think doing something like that would make you walk your ass into the nearest psychiatric office ASAP. Then there's Julia...survived her own hell with a father who ate is gun due to his own PTSD, who knows how bad it can get when it's left untreated but does she ever insist Logan seek help? Nope. Cue missing kid, rescue mission then the HEA with no more mention of PTSD. Sigh. As if the love of the right woman just magically stops the nightmares and effectively disables all the triggers. This story could have been so good. The fight to overcome the PTSD, to show the town he's a Sheriff worth trusting, to show Julia that PTSD can be treated and he was no longer a threat to her or her daughters and she could trust him not to eat his gun like her father did. Unfortunately that's not the story we got.
This is Logan's story. He is the oldest of the Wilde brothers. A roadside bomb injured his leg so his military career ended. He is now a sheriff in a small town in Idaho. When he meets Julia, he just knew she was the one for him, and sparks flew. Julia has ten-year-old twin girls. Tragedy struck and Logan was the hero that saved the day. Surprise twist. This the third book in the series and each one gets better than the previous one. This series a wonderful read. Recommend highly.
This is a review of the audiobook - this was a good story.
I enjoyed this book very much – in spite of the only adequate narration. This is the first audio I've listened to by Daniel James Lewis. I do hope that he's new to audiobook narration (I only found 5 books by him on Audible.com.) Things that wouldn't be bothersome to me if I were reading a book (like misspelling, wrong words, phrasing) I found distracting in this audiobook. Examples are the pronunciation of "scaring" as "scarring," "mischief" as "mis chief." When I'm engrossed in the story and have something like those examples hit my ears it's just plain jarring. There was also one place where an entire paragraph was repeated (that might not be the narrator's fault).
Authors – it's important to make sure that your audiobooks are proofed for errors (if you are in control of the audio and not some publisher) just as you would make sure your printed books are proofed.
So, for the story… this is a rather short book so there's not a lot of time for character development, still the author does a good job of letting us know who the main characters are and what makes them tick. She also did a good job of keeping me guessing who the bad guy was by throwing a twist into the story.
While this is book two of The Wilde Brothers series it works fine as a standalone. I haven't read book one and I don't feel like I missed anything. But after reading Friendly Fire I am interested in reading the other books in this series.
While I own almost all of Lorhainne Eckhart's books (I'm a one-click addict - LOL) this is only the second book of hers that I've read and now I'm looking forward to reading more of her work.
A review copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
This is book #2 in The Wilde Brothers series. Also included is a part too short read.
Logan Wilde, a former Marine, was sent home after his squad was killed by a roadside bomb. He damaged his leg and was in a coma for almost 3 weeks. He was medically discharged afterwards. He lives with PTSD from the explosion. Now he's working as the new Sheriff in small town, Idaho.
His first day out with his deputy for lunch, he meets Julia Cooper in her cafe. But when an older car drives by making a loud noise, Logan's transported back to his days in the Marine and loses himself. He pulls out his gun shooting Julia's coffee machine.
Julia Cooper is a daughter of an Army man. She recognizes PTSD immediately when she sees Logan panicking and sweating. She can commiserate with him. Her father fought in the war and came home a different man. He committed suicide because he didn't trust himself around his family anymore.
So much chemistry surrounds Logan and Julia. But she's afraid of losing herself to it. She has twin daughters, 10 year olds, Dawn and Trinity, that she's raising alone after finding out that her ex-husband cheated on her throughout their whole marriage with his assistant.
When the town's math teacher comes on a bit too strong, Julia rebuffs him. But he can't take no for an answer. So he decides to do the unspeakable to one of her girls to get Julia's attention. Now it's up to Logan to find Trinity before it's too late.
Once again, the author gives us a touching story with some suspense, and romance. Logan Wilde, former Marine, was injured in a roadside bomb and is still struggling with some PTSD. Now he is the new sheriff in a small town. His first day brings him face to face with Julia Cooper, the owner of the local cafe. Julia is divorced , with a set of twin girls and a woman who, because of her Dad experienced the effects of a Marine coming back from the war. But the attraction is there and when someone takes one of the twins, she turns to Logan for help. It’s a fast paced, well developed story with complex characters. Kudos to the author for reminding us of the effects combat has on the brave men and women who fight so that we can enjoy freedom. As well as a reminder that as a nation, we need to do more for them upon their return. Another very good story in this series.
Lorhainne Eckhart there truly is no end to your awesomeness. I loved, loved, loved this book. You always give us a unique story and amazing characters that are believable and we fall in love with them. Logan was traumatised by the effects of war and there was no end of support from his family but he did not want to show how vulnerable he truly was. The instant attraction between Logan and Julia was sizzling and I knew that they would be a great match. This story had it all, love, drama and lots of suspense that had me hooked from the very beginning. A very interesting twist in amongst the drama of Trinity’s kidnapping. Once again you have blown me away with yet another amazing family and story. I am so glad to have found your books because I have never looked back.
I received an ebook copy and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Received The Wilde Brothers the Complete Collection in a Goodreads giveaway, which contains Friendly Fire as the third story in the collection.
Gah, I am sorry, I realize this is a minor thing for most people, but once again, we have one of the brothers being described as being 6’2” - but in this case, as the tallest of them. (Page 208 from the print collection). Unless they are all the same height? (Although I thought in the last Joe was leaning down over Samuel with both standing up.) -- Turns out they are all the same height.
Overall, enjoyed this one far more than the first two: Logan is a more decent human being as a character.
My only annoyance is the whole “hooking up for first time and no protection during sex” as that just no.
Logan has taken a job as a small town sheriff after leaving the Marines. He never expected to open the town's cafe door and find a beautiful won. There's something about her that he can't pinpoint. Julia relocated to town after a divorce that had blindsided her. The mother of twin girls, she was looking for a place to start over. A safe place to raise her girls. Like all Ms. Eckhart's books, you'll fall in love with her characters, love the setting, and find the plots both inventive and heartwarming. I recommend all of her books, having read many of them--there are more on my list , and know you'll find friends behind each cover!
Logan has become a sheriff of a little town. Julia moved there with her twins and open her own restaurant after her divorce. Logan accidentally shots her espresso mach when a car backfired and the machine made noise, her had a flashback. But he care about her and the girls and ends up saving one when she is taken by a teacher who has a history of stalking women under different names.
This was not exactly what I wanted at the time, I kept hoping that there would be some other plot points but most of the book was taken up by one arc. It oversimplified some emotions and plot points too much for me. Some silly romance stuff would have been nice instead of straight into the hectic madness and really only staying there. There was quite a bit more I would have loved to know.
Lorhainne Eckhart has presented a very well written story in Friendly Fire. It's a predictable read in which I found the characters likeable but for me personally there was no "grab" factor. I would st this book is an excellent beach read Nd recommend it for anyone looking for a feel good story for a quick read.
A strong man with a large weakness. A soldier who was hurt trying to get his life back. A woman who was betrayed also trying to get a new life. They meet each other and Sparks Fly. An unexpected kidnapping and some questionable suspects make some small town Romance an interesting but short story an interesting read

I enjoyed reading about Logan and Julia and how they met,Julia a divorce mother of twin girls who was cheated on by their father and then there's Logan who carries scares of his own a match made in heaven .
Lovely story. I don’t like the full blown romance scenes but was happy to find out that love blossomed between them. Just didn’t want to read the intimate details. I thought it was a really good storyline. Thank you.
This was a delightful read. I love the story line and everything about it. It was a page turner and you will not want to stop. Do yourself a BIG favor and read this one.

Review Really liked this one. The plot and characters were great can't wait to read more in the series
Blurb: From the moment the new sheriff walks through the door of Julia Cooper’s cafe, she fights the attraction between them, especially after Logan shoots a carafe right from her hands when he’s startled by a car backfiring in the street outside. Julia has seen that wild look before: She saw it in her father’s eyes right before he shoved a gun to his head and killed himself.
Yes. The new sheriff, in a panicked fugue, pulls out his gun and SHOOTS it, in a café. When there are innocent people there!
And no one does anything about it. He carries on working, carrying a gun, doing his thing - you know - interrogating minors, playing the ‘hard man’ in town, ordering illegal background checks on someone who has done nothing wrong other than be pleasant to the woman whose carafe he (the Sheriff) destroyed with a bullet - not to mention a coffee machine which appears to be a greater concern to the out of control sheriff.
Does that not scare the effing shit out of you?? Well it sure did to me. American small town mentality at its best?
What about the curfew on under-eighteens?? WTF??
America. Land of the Free. IF you are an adult.
I stopped reading in sheer disgust. What if YOUR CHILD had been in that café?
I FELT SO BAD FOR LOGAN HE HAS SUFFERED SO MUCH, HIS TIME IN THE MARINES MAY BE OVER BUT THE TURMOIL CONTINUES IN HIS MIND. HE’S A VERY GOOD LOOKING GUY BUT HE CAN ALSO BE A VERY SCARY DUDE. HE’S SO SEXY SO MAYBE YOU COULD OVERLOOK THE SCARY PART, I BET HE CAN REALLY ROCK A GIRL’S WORLD. A LITTLE PREDICTABLE BUT A GOOD READ I REALLY ENJOYED IT. SMALL TOWN LIVE NEVER CEASES TO AMAZE ME IT’S JUST A COMPACT BIG CITY. ;D THIS ALSO HAS A BONUS NOVELLA AT THE “END NOT QUITE MARRIED” A LITTLE REPETATIVE BUT CUTE.
