Isaac Abrams is the Grayslake town healer. While he loves the town, clan and family, he just can’t take the pity looks any more. In a fight with werehyenas that took place in one the first book, he wouldn’t allow anyone to tend to his own wounds until he was done healing everyone else that needed it. It left him scarred. Now, everyone in the town sees nothing but the scares. He wants nothing more than to have a family like his brothers have, but he will never get it in Grayslake where people still remember what he used to be. So he is going to move to a new territory to help that territory’s aging healer.
Kira is a half weremole (this a new shifter for me). She is half-blind and has a good for nothing guide dog. She grew up in a terrible territory where she wasn’t treated too bad until she turned eighteen. Then things changed. Her half-brother started torturing her. She became the guinea pig to test the poison that the shifters were using on the other shifters. When she was finally able to run, she ran to Grayslake. Good thing too, since that is where she meets her mate.
This is yet another book in this series where either the hero or heroine (or in this case, both) are damaged in some way. The author likes to write stories about how her characters can overcome these issues and still have that happy ever after. She also likes to write about how outside prejudices can affect both the hero and heroines in her story, and how it is even worse when it is family showing those prejudices.
Ty, the clan leader and the oldest brother of all the heroes in these books, has been quite the jerk in several of these books. He either hasn’t stood behind the brother that was hero of that story and let another brother treat the heroine poorly, if not do it himself. Well, that comes to a head in this story when the Abrams’ mother and father spend more time in the story. They chastise their sons for how they are treating the others. They almost lost their youngest son in the previous book and they aren’t about to go through that again.
I like how this author takes on tough topics such a prejudices with a sense of humor that isn’t tasteless. She has done this in pretty much every book so far in this series. I’ve really enjoyed them. I don’t feel like I’m being preached to about these topics. It does make me stop and think about how these things happen even within family. I’ve really enjoyed the stories.

This is the best of the Grayslake books in my humble opinion. I really like Kira and Isaac. Kira is a weremole (picture it) and new neighbor to wearbear Isaac. She has escaped horrors untold living with her father & brothers pack. Isaac is leaving Grayslake soon as he feels that no female will look past his scars and he wants a mate like his brothers have. Kira as a weremole has inherited her animals’ weak eyesight so she is mostly blind. It’s a match made in heaven if only Isaac can’t get his head out of his pity party long enough to see her and if she can stay alive long enough they might just be perfect for each other.
I really think you should read the first three books in order to get the most out of this book but it can be read standalone. This book runs the full gamut of emotions. Happy, sad, horrified, angry, amazed and horny. If you love shifters this is a must read.

This was a pretty good story. I liked Kira and Isaac and their story was enjoyable.
Kira is a hybrid shifter that came out being able to shift into a were-mole. Because of her animal being a mole, Kira is half blind..only able to make out shapes and things are pretty blurry even in the best conditions. She has a service dog who's a rescue she found in the pound and is fiercely protective of her.
Isaac is a were-bear (brother to the leader) and he's the healer for their clan. During a recent battle with hyenas, Isaac was hurt badly and it left scaring, especially a very large one on his face. Because of this, the women of the clan aren't interested in him and Isaac fears he'll never find a mate.
Kira grew up fearing her father and half-brother and she spent years being abused and tortured by her brother and had barely escaped death more times than she could count. Kira finally decided that she needed to move away or she'd be dead sooner than later. She moves to Greyslake and right next door to Isaac. Isaac (in his despair about all the local women shunning him) has told his family that he's decided to move away and they're not real happy about it. Isaac hopes that somewhere he can find a woman that will look past his scars and he can find love. As he's packing up his home, Isaac is surprised to get an uninvited visitor. Kira decides to visit her next door neighbor and (being half blind) she accidentally breaks some things by knocking them over and her dog decides to pee on Isaac's boxes. Not a good beginning and even worse when Isaac chuckles (thinking she's cute) and Kira thinks he's laughing at her out of malice and leaves...quickly.
It takes a bit of time for Kira and Isaac to get themselves in gear. Isaac was planning to leave but he started having doubts about his plan as soon as he met Kira. After a hesitant start, Isaac decides he wants Kira and they'll figure out where they'll live and all the rest later. Kira isn't as sure and is a bit overwhelmed by his family and everything. Kira has had issues in the past with not being able to rely on people that were supposed to be on her side so she has a bit of trouble letting go of her need for independence. Thankfully, although Isaac wants to protect Kira, he understands that he can't wrap her in cotton and never let her outside so he's pretty supportive if still protective. Things go a bit wonky when trouble comes knocking on her door and ends up tying into her past and the threats she moved to escape. Thankfully, those issues get taken care of so that Isaac and Kira can end the story starting their HEA together.
This was a pretty enjoyable story. I liked Kira and Isaac. They both had scars (both physical and emotional) and worked really well together. The story worked well and my main complaint is that Ty started things out by being a bit of a jerk. I really wish the author didn't take previous heroes that I liked and make them be jerks that I want to kick. Both Van (in #3) and Ty (in this book) realized their mistakes and went back to being a good guys before too long but it was annoying to see them that way. Regardless, this was a pretty good story with characters I liked and I'd recommend it. :)

This is the fourth book in the Grayslake series by Celia Kyle. It’s about the remaining Abrams brother Isaac.
We were first introduced to Isaac in the first book No Ifs, Ands, or Bears About It ,he’s the healer of the clan and brother to Itan (kind of like an alpha for bears) but by the end of the first book he was badly scarred by the hyena pack they fought. After that Isaac moves away to work for his sister-in-law’s father to get away from everything that has happened to him, he returns to Grayslake at the end of the last book in the series. This book starts with him finally deciding to tell his family that he’s moving away permanently because can’t live in Grayslake where his brothers are happily married and others in the pack treat him poorly because of his scars.
Kira also known as KK to her friends moves to Grayslake to finally escape the horror that her life turned to when she turned eighteen because of her father the alpha and her step-brother. Kira is a weremole while the rest of old pack mates were wolves and viewed her as prey. She’s also kind of blind.
They meet when Kira moves in next door to Isaac and wants to be friends, which does not end well because Isaac is in the process of moving out. I liked them together, they are both very damaged but together they are very sweet and cute together. I liked the overall plot of the story and I also enjoyed the fact that there wasn’t too much angst in the book, there was drama but not much angst between the couple.
Quibbles: I will start of by saying that I liked the first book in the series and I enjoyed the relationship of the couple in it Isaac’s brother Ty and Mia, having said that Ty the Itan in the rest of the books came off as an not a good guy at all (an understatement), he was a shitty Itan and even shittier brother to his younger brothers. He annoyed me to no end, his behavior was not of someone who cared about his brothers at all.He did not even know what was going on in his family let alone in his clan. His behavior towards his brothers was appalling and I did not for one second bought his apology for his behavior later in the book. Apart from that I would have liked to know why exactly was Kira blind, maybe I missed it while reading the book but I do not think one was given and I would liked a bit more on her background then what was given.
Overall the book had the usual Celia Kyle humor, I liked the couple and their story it was just the other stuff that made me like the story less. I still enjoyed it, just less than I usually enjoy Celia’s books.
P.s The guy in the cover should be more scarred to match Isaac’s scars.

The fourth book in the Grayslake series features Isaac Abrams, the clan’s Healer, who is used to putting others before himself. Enter Kira Kolanowski, weremole shifter. She can’t see very well, but she even sees what a good man Isaac is. And then, romance happens...
The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between
-You don’t see weremole heroines every day: Kira has reason to retreat from life, but she does not. She's lived as prey among predators her whole life, always in danger, a constant target for abuse. She’s a little bit (well, alotta bit) blind, but she is determined to take care of herself. She’s a fairly well balanced character, as she could easily slip into self-pity or pig-headed stubbornness, but instead she’s a bit goofy, pretty resilient and no-nonsense, which makes her very likeable.
-I love scarred heroes: Isaac was wounded in battle in the first book, and was left horribly scarred, choosing to heal other shifters before himself. When this book begins, he’s ready to leave Grayslake because he’s tired of the shallow women who won’t see beyond his scars. He’s more of a beta hero, intent on being supportive to his woman, but he has enough alpha tendencies (oh he says his fair share of “mine!”) that he’s still compelling.
-Well, it is a formula: Scarred hero falls in love with a blind(ish) heroine is a well worn type of story and, I’ll admit my review may have suffered a bit from being read back to back with the last book, Roaring Up the Wrong Tree. The H/h in both of these stories have alot of pain and suffering in their pasts, are facing family members that are dismissive or outright cruel. It all wraps up in a pretty bow and it just felt similar. But, Kira/Isaac and Keen/Trista had enough of a difference between the individual characters that it didn’t affect my enjoyment too much.
The Bottom Line
An unusual heroine gives a fresh twist on an old tale. Better than the first two, and on par with the third. I enjoyed it and I would read the next one.

I'm not sure why my reviews keep disappearing for this book... anyway I love this book I have read it tons of times now. There is something about the way he treated her even while she was blind melted my heart. I just love it

My favorite in the series!
Kira was such a wonderful surprise! I loved her! I thought she was going to be meek since she's a weremole and all but she turned out to be quite headstrong and ballsy. What she lacks in physical strength, she more than makes up in mental strength. And I loved her sense of humor even more! She had me chuckling quite a few times. Definitely the best and most memorable heroine in this series.
Isaac was great as well. He was strong, patient, protective, caring, etc. He's physically scarred from a past battle and is sick of women looking right through him. He's leaving the clan because he's sure he will never find a mate there and he really wants a family of his own someday. But his desire to move comes to a halt when he meets Kira.
Is this the end of the series though? I think all four brothers are done. Or is there a brother I'm missing? I kinda actually wanna read Zoey and Bates' story.

Sweet shifter romance
4.5 star read - The whole concept of a were-mole and bear shifter romance left me skeptical. Maybe because I've seen moles, and find them to be creepy little bastards? I don’t know, but that’s the only reason I can come up with for having this book on my "to-read" list for so long. I have to say I was impressed.
The pros:
* I can not resist a good story with a disabled/disfigured hero or heroine - this had both
* The characters were solid - even the secondary ones
* Could easily have been read as a stand-alone
The cons:
* At times the book felt unnecessarily long. It was 380 pages, and at times did drag a bit. Not often, but occasionally
Overall a great read and I look forward to more in this series.

I think this is my favorite story in this series. I really love Kira. She has so much strength. Not only is she mostly blind, she is also a prey species around predators. When her family takes advantage of that fact, she didn’t let it get her down. She escaped to find a fun life for herself.
Kira is a weremole. She was raised in her father’s wolf pack. Things were okay until she hit eighteen, then everything changed. The pack decided she would be a great test subject to test a poison. She has the scars to prove it.
Isaac is the last of the Abrams brothers. He is the clan healer, but when he is severally scared while fighting the hyenas in an earlier book, his life is changed forever. He even leaves the clan for a while. People look at him differently. He is convinced that he will not be able find a mate in Grayslake, so he plans to leave. That is until the little weremole and her crazy dog, who is the worst seeing-eye dog in the world, come into his house as he’s packing.
I love seeing these two come together. They love each other, despite all their faults. I loved the time with Ebenezer Hufflensuffle or Snuffletruffle or Snoffleblossom or Fufflehaffle or whatever name she is calling him (there is a story behind his name that was really cute). Anyway, I loved this final story of the Abram’s brothers, but not the final story to the series. There is one last full-length novel about a wolf that was banished from Grayslake.
Narration
Kendall Taylor continues to do a great job with the narration of this series. I love all the voices that she’s chosen for the different characters. I think she really pulls the emotions of each character out. There are some great scenes in this book that she just really nailed the character’s emotions. I would highly recommend her.

I think this is my favorite story in this series. I really love Kira. She has so much strength. Not only is she mostly blind, she is also a prey species around predators. When her family takes advantage of that fact, she didn’t let it get her down. She escaped to find a fun life for herself.
Kira is a weremole. She was raised in her father’s wolf pack. Things were okay until she hit eighteen, then everything changed. The pack decided she would be a great test subject to test a poison. She has the scars to prove it.
Isaac is the last of the Abrams brothers. He is the clan healer, but when he is severally scared while fighting the hyenas in an earlier book, his life is changed forever. He even leaves the clan for a while. People look at him differently. He is convinced that he will not be able find a mate in Grayslake, so he plans to leave. That is until the little weremole and her crazy dog, who is the worst seeing-eye dog in the world, come into his house as he’s packing.
I love seeing these two come together. They love each other, despite all their faults. I loved the time with Ebenezer Hufflensuffle or Snuffletruffle or Snoffleblossom or Fufflehaffle or whatever name she is calling him (there is a story behind his name that was really cute). Anyway, I loved this final story of the Abram’s brothers, but not the final story to the series. There is one last full-length novel about a wolf that was banished from Grayslake.
Narration
Kendall Taylor continues to do a great job with the narration of this series. I love all the voices that she’s chosen for the different characters. I think she really pulls the emotions of each character out. There are some great scenes in this book that she just really nailed the character’s emotions. I would highly recommend her.

My absolute favorite book in the series.
I really think George needs to kick Ty's butt though! We really see the characters grow more and get to meet Sophia and parker as a big brother. I love that. I did think that Ty and Van would be a little less abrasive and though Ty shaped up soon, I was a little saddened that he was so dense...again! Although Mia took care of that quickly.
I loved Isaac and Kira, I loved that she could relate to him and that he didn't brush her aside. Their story was strong with very little miscommunication and angst. I thought it was a good balance. I also liked that Isaac and Keen were so close
I did like the twist with Zoey and Reid. It was an interesting development into bringing Reid back to the fold.

She may be half-blind but she’s not helpless and hunky mate or not, Kira won’t stand aside while Isaac does everything for her, including saving her life.
Who is the perfect mate for a werebear healer that wants nothing more than a family but is overlooked because of the scars he received saving the lives of others? Answer: a sassy weremole who won’t let near blindness stop her from living life her own way. Isaac and Kira fit together so well because they’re alike and heal each other in ways no one else can, yet different enough they have unusual and hilarious arguments about the most random things. They can swear like sailors and have no qualms with getting their claws dirty and I really wanted the best for them. Thankfully, the author doesn’t disappoint. A really fun couple that show how sexy scars can be.
Kira comes from a twisted family that manufactures a poison that’s brutal on shifters and their list of victim’s include people closest to her. What they’ve done has had a big impact on Kira and Isaac and I wish there was a better resolution. Not that it’s a bad ending, it just wasn’t as gratifying as I would like. Something I do love is the wolves involvement in the story and the role they play in Kira’s life. It almost feels like it’s a set up for a spinoff series. Love that unexpected tidbit thrown in.
My opinion of Ty (clan Itan and oldest Abrams brother) has diminished since his book due to his callous behavior towards his brothers. Well, papa bear puts an end to that and it’s about time. He’s been a dick to his brothers (for doing the same thing he did!) and him being put in his place and the subsequent graveling is so satisfying to read.
This series has a lot of humor and crazy antics and it keeps the plot and character history from being too heavy. That balance, the lovable imperfect shifters, and intertwining stories lines make this book and the rest of the series a joy to read.

This has got to be hands down the best Grayslake book of the series. Lots of humour, lots of loving but had a serious edge to the characters over coming their scars. Been waiting for Isaac's story since book 1 and it totally delivered. I loved the reference to Lynn red's world as it made me chuckle. It was brilliant with bringing the four brother and George and Meg together for many scenes. Love this family, scars, egos and sulking galore. How can Celia top this book? Don't know but I'm sure she'll give it her best shot. Hopefully we can return to Grayslake with future generations or from the wolf pack side of the series. Didn't want the book to end but as they say, all good things must come to an end!! High five and both thumbs up from me!

I fell in love with Kira (weremole) and Isaac (werebear). Between the two of them there was soooo much pain, both physical and mental, but Kira refused to bow under it. She didn't let being prey in a predator pack, constant torture, or the fact she was slightly (mostly) blind stop her from anything. She in turn taught Isaac that there was still a lot to smile about. Thankfully the pain was balanced with a lot of humor. I worried for awhile about Ebie, Kira's (not so great) guide dog, tuning into a werebear snack when he insisted on marking Isaac's house repeatedly. Luckily even Isaac's bear learned to tolerate goofy Ebie.

Another win
A scarred werebear and a semi blind weremole, can they find love. Again Celia Kyle has produced a book and cast of characters that you can easily embrace. I really liked how Isaac's parents play a bigger role in this book. Kira's character is one tough woman who has overcome so much. Her dog Ebie had me grinning. Isaac and Kira made a great couple. It is what is inside the person that makes an individual beautiful. It took Kira to see the beautiful man inside Isaac. It took a healer to help Kira begin to heal the past.

I loved Isaac's and Kira's story. They truly are perfect for each other in their own imperfections, making a complete perfect whole. The overall story arc is amping up. This book revealed quite a few connections to previous events, as well as increasing the power of the Grayslake clan alliances. I hope the next book can keep up.
However, I did notice a few continuity errors. That is always disappointing in what is otherwise a fairly well crafted "world."

This is definitely my most favorite in the series! All the king's horses and all the king's men didn't even know these two humpty dumpties needed putting back together, until they found each other. Isaac and Kira are perfect. I loved them! And we can't forget Ebie Flufflepot Bumblebottom, now can we?

I loved this book. Kira, a weremole,meets Issac, the healer and a bear, and it is hilarious. I laughed and I cried. Honestly, whenever I need a boost, it is the book I pull out and read again. This is a stand alone book, but part of a series. I love George. Everyone needs a George in their life. Great book. It is a shorter book, but a great paranormal romance.

3.5 stars and Mia is still annoying me, only now it's now the no swearing it's how damn mopey she is! Every time they told the group off for moving shit in her house it ended up being Mia and she'd get all teary and 'so sorry' and they'd have to end up making her feel better when she was being the bad person.
So I think it would have been a 4 star if I wasn't a little annoyed. My first thought with him and the scars was 'please don't make his Mate bloody blind because hardy had they can't see him so he can accept it more now'... next minute we meet his pretty blind mate (not fully, she has SOME vision, but she still cant make out his face at all) and I think that just makes me sad. Especially when it was actually a line someone used as an insult (that she had to be blind to Mate him) because it just broke my heart, but I got used to it, and I actually did really enjoy her character and the obstacles she faced (although the trip to the Home Depot type store had me raging at her stubbornness and stupidity, believe it or not you put others in danger when you just trot off in anger in a store like that, and then what happens, she gets hurt lol) because minus the Home Depot I liked that she strived for independence in her living. And I loved that he actually picked up on that quickly and gave it to her even when he struggled.
I love the humour and while the 'bad guy drama' is a little too extra for me in these, they're nice reads. Also, still giggling at her and her friends banter (puppy/rat etc) and that she's an actual weremole LOLOLOL

The descriptions of Kira and Isaac are so cute. She's a mostly-blind weremole and it's so adorable to hear about her "worm-loving" animal.
However, the levels of ridiculous in this book keep on rising and it's drowned my ability to keep going.
1. Apparently, everyone hates a blind person and loves to torment them! Seriously, everyone seems to think it's funny to torture her or, at the very least, move her furniture so she bumps into it and hurts herself. There's even a strange scene where a well-meaning "friend" tells someone she wasn't careful with putting Kira's stuff where Kira asked her to put it "because I thought she was just being OCD". Like being OCD isn't a reason for caring about someone and putting things where they want! Seriously, the strange treatment of anyone who differs is absurd. I could understand an isolated incident here or there, but everyone seems to treat her and Isaac with such disrespect.
2. She has a guide dog. But the author doesn't understand that this would mean the dog is smart and well-behaved. Kira's guide dog is constantly wandering off, chewing on things, and peeing everywhere. What? Makes no sense. Guide dogs are very well trained and this doesn't mesh. Do some research, author!
3. Bizarre villainy that just springs out of nowhere. We get a mean girl interaction one minute and that "mean girl" is trying to kill Kira the next. What? That's a bit extreme.
I stopped reading about the time that Kira's guide dog doesn't save her from walking into a forklift.

I have only read a couple of the Greyslake stories from Kindle Worlds and this is my first actual Greyslake book from Celia Kyle. I loved this story but would have truly loved to see Isaac get a sighted mate that could see his scars and be able to see the man behind them. That being said - Kira and Isaac make a fantastic couple and Ebie just adds to the entertainment value of the story. Kira's past has made her strong and independent and given her such an awesome outlook on life. Isaac has seen the relationships that his brothers have with their mates and he struggles with the fact that many women see his scars and are repulsed even though Isaac is a caring and tender person. Even though I did not read the books with Isaac's brothers, I was not lost as the author gives us enough background to have a rudimentary knowledge of the previous couples stories. I would however recommend reading them in order to totally understand everything going on with the wolves and hyenas and how they impact the bears of Greyslake.

Kira was adorable. But Isaac was always so angry and Ty has been coming off as a real jerk in everyone’s books. I don’t understand why. It doesn’t do anything except cause drama and I feel like that job could’ve been given to some random in the clan. I did enjoy seeing the grandparents, but I was extremely disappointed to see that the mother’s name had changed from Anna to Margaret. Huge mistake that made me think, for a second, that Anna had died and been replaced by someone else.
I liked the idea of this but it dragged way too long in the back and forth between our couple. And it did the same thing that bugged me in the last book: long-winded monologues and discussions that circled, too detailed passages for basic things. That killed the momentum and messed up the flow. A lot.
Overall, a 2-star experience for wrong names, mean characters that aren’t mean, lagging, and raging people that just yell to yell.

I love Kira, she is a fabulous heroine that really comes into her own over the course of this book.
I like Isaac very much, he does make a good hero. The thing that for me was definitely different from other shifter books was the fact that his pack/clan wasn't as tight as they normally are. His brother, the leader is his actual brother but clearly he's not a very good brother - he allows the pack to be downright nasty to Isaac which, considering all he did to receive the scars he now sports, shows how terrible the pack really is - so much for rallying around each other at a time of need, these folks will leave you out to dry and make fun of you along the way.
It makes for interesting reading, that's for sure and I do love how it eventually works out - lots of character growth all around and not a moment too soon!

A bit slow at first
If you haven't read the other books in this series this one seems slow at first. Personally, I feel that this book just doesn't read like a stand alone book. Instead of expounding on comments that reference things that happened in other books in the series this story just made a brief aside and keep moving with the conversation. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the story I just couldn't give it 5 stars. As a matter of fact I have to say that this couple is my favorite from all of the books in the series so far.

I spent a couple of days off around Christmas listening to the audiobooks of the first four in this series, and they were a fun background to Christmas cooking and other activities. For the most part, they were like cotton candy - light, fun and sweet - except I was surprised by how bloody and gory they became (I came to expect it after the first book, but it was a little startling initially). I think this author will join my list of books to read when I need something low-angst.

I love this story. I truly felt joy, or heartbreak depending on the situation, while reading this one. The main characters, Isaac and Kira, were a truly inspiring pair. They each suffered through and survived truly horrific moments in their life, but they each became better people because of those moments. They found solace and love within the arms of each other, something that they were both deserving of. The author did an amazing job writing and bringing this story to life. Well done! I'm looking forward to reading to the next story.
