Twenty-four year old Addison Allmon went from Jimmy Choo shoes to Cowgirl Boots in just a matter of a couple weeks.

She had the life she'd always wanted, until it was all ripped away....

Addison lost her license due to drinking and driving, got laid off from her awesome marketing job at the hottest company in Southern Florida, and lost her fiancé Carlos to the pool boy.

The year is coming to a horrible end and she's forced to move back to her hometown of Norton, IA and live with her mother.

While back home, Addison runs into her old best friend Stephen. Out of nowhere, sparks begin to fly, and things between them start to heat up. The only problem is...

Stephen is engaged.

Addison decides the best way to drown her sorrows is in alcohol. So she heads out on the town by herself for New Year's Eve.

Lucas, a sexy tattooed man, catches Addison's eye. They dance, make jokes, and even make a playful bet that Addison accepts thinking all will be forgotten by morning--thanks to a night of heavy drinking.

Will Addison find new love with Lucas? Or will she find a way to win Stephen over once and for all?

The Kiss is the debut novella from Erica M. Christensen. It's a New Adult contemporary romance story that introduces us to Addison (Addi). This poor girl has the life she's grown accustomed to, ripped out from under her, her job, her home, her fiance. All gone. So, she heads home to Iowa from Los Angeles to live with her Mom.

While home, she gets in touch with some of the friends she grew up with. Friendships are tested, relationships are strained, bombs are dropped. It feels like a rough go for dear Addi, and life just isn't ready to sort itself out for her yet. That is until she gets a beer dumped on her in a bar on New Year's Eve by Sexy Tattooed Man.

I cannot wait to read more of this story. It ends on a fantastic note, and definitely leaves you wanting more. The only point that brought this down for me was during the reading. I felt like the relationship that was being explored needed more depth, deserved more depth. With that said, once I got to the end, I understood what was happening. As a result, it brought the book up from 3.5 stars, to 4.

You meet the bold, young and beautiful Addison who manages to lose everything in just a few days, her driving license, amazing job and her fiancé to the young pool boy. Wow, poor girl. How's that for a smack in the face. Addi decides it's time to move home to Mom, who has always supported her. But she is dreading bumping into her friends from high school, especially her best friend Stephen.

I loved the family banter between Addi and her mom, which made me laugh. Addi has a welcome home party thrown for her where she comes face to face with none other than the newly sexy as sin best friend Stephen. The connection is there instantly, you can feel it between them. Things get hot quick, with the fast pace journey between them and all the friendly and sexy flirting. But when Stephen drops a bomb that he is in fact engaged to be married things get more complicated. To be honest I wanted to scream at Stephen for Addi, his fiancé is dealing with heartfelt feeling about her ex-boyfriend. But Addi couldn't make Stephen see sense.

I am looking forward to the next book to see how it all plays out.

*Book received in exchange for honest review *

Addison starts her life a chubby little nobody who wishes for a better, more perfect life. She changes into a barbie wannabe and becomes cheer captain at school. Her best friend Stephen loves her flaws and who she was before she became popular, he was just a scrawny lad with and afro like hairstyle. Six years later Addi, loses her job and fiance and finds herself back home. everyone's changed. Including her best friend, but after realising she's in love with him can she take their relationship to the next level? or is it too late?

A fantastic little novella, the perfect quick read, though I wish there was more to the story. Very well written and eye catching with some humour as well. definitely recommend this 60 page novella.

Definitely worth the read and I look forward to checking out the rest of the series!

I went back and forth with the rating for this book. I liked the characters and the storyline. There were two things that pulled it back for me. Firstly I felt that there could have been more detail which leads to my second issue of pace, I found myself rushing and skipping through lines. I didn't want to rate this harshly as I liked it apart from two small issues. Now that could very well be just a personal reaction from me and others will find quite the opposite effect, so I definitely recommend to others to read.

I loved this book, although I wish it had been longer! I got to the last page and said, "Where's the rest of it?" Which all in all is a good thing, it just means that I want to read the second in the series. Erica does a very good job at making the love between Stephen and Addison believable. I am a stickler for a happy ending where everyone lives happily ever after...so we'll just have to see how it ends for the two of them. Can't wait for the next book! If you are looking for a quick steamy read, this should have all you're looking for.

Now that was entertaining! Just as I am settled on the idea that Addison might have a chance at a life with her old best friend...Christensen throws another hot guy into the mix. Leaving us not knowing if we are rooting for her buddy Stephen who is currently engaged to another woman, or Lucas, Mr. hot tattoo dude that she meets on NYE. Only problem now is that we have to wait for book two! Sigh

As the first book in a series, with a massive "OMG no!!!" at the end, this book was very well written. A few tense issues snagged my nerd brain, but probably won't bother most people (but which I can't in good conscience overlook, for my reviewers integrity). I liked the fact that the characters are deeply developed, and their angst is very real. An excellent novel, and I cannot wait to get my greedy hands on book 2!

A great story from a new author! I loved, loved the main character's voice! She's funny and unique, and has a few real zingers. I loved her internal dialogue - she's kind of funny and self deprecating at the same time. Without giving anything away - it was a great ending, sad and hopeful at the same time. I can't wait to read the next in this series!

Wow! A lot of action and excitement in a short story. Is there more? I hope! I was ready to kick Stephen's arse when he took Addi to the church said all that stuff to her and then when Rebecca showed up, it was like he never said a word to Addi. Maybe Luke is just what she needs right now!

This book started off with a fast pace, throwing a lot of information at you in a short time and introducing Addison, the main female character.

Unfortunately the book did not paint her in the nicest of lights. I found myself really hating Addison and half way through the novella I just couldn't find any redeeming qualities in her. The author seems to portray her as a character that we are supposed to feel sorry for. (She got laid off just before Christmas, her fiance is gay and she walks in on him screwing the pool boy and she got a DUI and can't drive).

Honestly that DUI makes me lose ALL sympathy for Addison. All of it. All of my sympathy flew out the window as soon as I heard she drank and drove and wasn't truly sorry about it. Instead of being horrified by what she did and humble she complains about it and makes jokes about it, only seeming contrite when her mother mentions it just before Addison goes out to party with old friends. She also seems sorry about it when she has to beg for a ride from Stephan. Her inner monologue stats "I hate this. Lesson learned, don't drink and drive. I got it." As if the worst thing that could have happened was losing her license! This girl is way too full of herself!

She only takes notice of Stephen as a love interest because, hot damn!, did he get sexy and grow some muscles! After finding out that he is engaged to another woman she still runs an inner dialogue of how sexy he is and wow has he changed and how difficult working for him is going to be because of how sexy and changed he is. Not to mention how she suddenly goes from seeing him as 'just a friend' to not being able to stand being 'just a friend' to him! Addison made me wish I could reach through the book and just shake some sense into her!

My original thought was "Dear god if Stephen ends up with Addison..." But on the other hand Stephen fooled around with a woman who's boyfriend is military (I'm supposing he knew she was dating? It was never explicitly mentioned whether he knew or not) and then he fools around with Addison when he is engaged to someone! It doesn't matter that their relationship is rocky and the wedding might be called off. Until it IS called off and you are no longer dating/engaged to that person you do not fool around with other people. Talk about unfaithful. Maybe the two of them are a perfect match for each other.

Addison was on top of the world, She finally had the life she always wanted. The saying is what comes up must come down and her life quickly crashed and burned. Addison got a DUI for drinking and driving. Then she got laid off from her awesome marketing job at the hottest company in Southern Florida that she loves and was great at, then came home to find her fiancé Carlos with the pool boy. It got worse when she find out she was his beard and he wanted to keep up the charade. So she packed up and headed to her hometown of Norton, IA.

Addison runs into her old best friend Stephen when she returns home and sparks begin to fly. But Addison bad luck continues and she finds out he is engaged.

On New Years Eve, Addison heads to a bar out of town to drown her sorrows is in alcohol. Maybe Addison's luck is finally taking a turn for the better. She catches the eye of a very sexy tattooed guy named Lucas. They have a great night of drinking and dancing. Was Lucas a one night of fun or is there more there? Will Stephen have a change of heart and cancel his wedding for Addison?

This was a quick book that ends in a cliffhanger that leaves a lot of questions in the air of what will happen next. It is almost like a prequel to me. It sets everything up and now your left wondering who Addison will end up with. I wanted to yell at Addison for her getting an DUI and thought at first I wasn't going to like her because driving drunk is unforgivable to me. But I ended up really feeling for her about her job and finding out the guy she was engaged to never loved her like a man who is in love with you should and especially with everything that happens with Stephen. I really feel for her. I feel her emotions and I am hooked. Now, sexy Lucas is just what this girl needs and I hope then just one night.

I thought the book was well written and a quick read. It is short but hooks you right away. I hope I don't have to wait long for book 2 The Bet. Go One Click this one and get hooked just like I did! I gave this one 5 out of 5 stars.

I need The Bet!

Addison is a small-town girl who moved to Florida to make it big. Two weeks before Christmas, she gets laid off from her marketing job. She goes home to find her fiance getting it on with the pool boy! She heads back home to Iowa with her tail between her legs. She was the homecoming queen for Pete's sake and now she's jobless without a license because she thought it would be alright to drive drunk. Hello??? Can you say "dumb and irresponsible" and DUI?

Once back home, she goes to a new bar and is surprised to see that it's her best friend, Stephen, who owns it. She doesn't recognize him because he's turned into a hottie! He offers her a job, which she gladly accepts. Her ex is there and she's accosted by him. Stephen puts him on his butt and kicks him out. Old memories surface and Addison doesn't know what to do about them. She wants Stephen. He was her first for everything. They practiced with each other so they wouldn't be bad at it when they were in relationships. After a passionate kiss, he drops a bomb... he's getting married New Year's Eve! Addison is heartbroken because she truly loves Stephen. She ends up sleeping with him a few days later, but she wants him to choose.

Stephen brings Addison to his wedding chapel because he's conflicted. He asks Addison to run away with him and his fiancee bursts through the door professing her love for him, which he reciprocated. Addison can't believe it! She's devastated! She goes out of town New Year's Eve and runs into a handsome stranger, Lucas. At the stroke of midnight, he kisses her and makes a bet with her that he can go without kissing or making love to her for 30 days. She accepts because she knows she won't see him again because she's heading back to Florida.

She wakes up the next morning in a hotel room...naked! There's no sight of Lucas...

Erica's writing style is engaging and you don't want the story to end! She's develops her characters in a way that makes you want to know more. Can't wait for "The Bet"!

The Kiss is the first book/novella in the Addison series. So I have to say first off this book had so much potential and I was excited to read this by the synopsis... but unfortunately it fell a little off for me because it felt like everything came at us in a rush and me not knowing it was a short book I guess I anticipated more to the story than what was delivered. But that being said I did enjoy the story line and the characters and do look forward to see what happens next in this story. If I had to rate this book I would give it a 3.5 stars.. but if you have ever read my series reviews I try to rate it in a whole not just one book. So will you enjoy this story? Yes I do believe most parts you will but be prepared for it being a Novella and of course with the short stories comes the ending that will leave you wanting more.

Addison is living the life most would kill for.. she has the perfect fiance.. the perfect job... the perfect house... but what will happen when that is all taken away? Well she has to move back home and face her past that she pushed away after she left for college. She will come face to face with people from her past some good some bad interactions. Most of all she gets reacquainted with her best friend Stephen who she left behind and didn't talk to for years.. what she finds is a different man in more ways than one.. When they start to reminisce about there pasts firsts they share together they will discover things the never realized... but will it pull them together or push them farther apart?

Go get this book and hopefully you enjoy this quick read! Can't wait to see where this story goes.

The kiss
4 stars

*reviewed by B.y.o.B Club*

The kiss follows the story of Addison, a 26 year old woman who's hit rock bottom. After getting a DWI, she then loses her job due to cut backs, only to go home and walk in on her fiancée having an affair with their pool boy. Addison does the only thing she knows to do, pack up, leave sunny Florida behind, and head back home to Iowa where her mom is willing to help her get back on her feet.

Addison quickly learns how much she's missed out on the past five years she's been in Florida, especially concerning her former nerdy best friend Stephen. He's no longer nerdy, but a sexy business owner who Addison wants immediately.

Only problem is, stephen's had his own life for the past five years while she was gone. He was in love with her as a teenager, and she couldn't wait to get out of their small town quick enough, so Stephen did the only thing he could, he moved on. Now Addison is back and causing him to question all of his decisions.

This story is about a second-chance love, from the start of the book, I immediately liked Addi. The girl is going through a crazy rough patch, but she doesn't just lie down and take it. I loved the humor throughout it. The characters seemed very relatable and likable.

It is the beginning of a series and does end of a cliff-hanger. I cannot wait to see where the story goes in the next book.

Well that was short.
Finished this in about a hour
When I chose to read it, unbeknownst to me that it was such a short read, nor did I know what it was about, I saw the cover (because I'm a cover whore) liked it and decided to read it. I guess that's what I get for not putting more thought in what I pick besides the cover.

Anyway let's talk about the characters and the story.

Yes, others have mentioned that a LOT of information is provided in such a short story. But it makes the pace fast, I rather have a fast paced story than a slow one.

Yes, I also got that Addi was full of herself and selfish. But I don't think I hated her, in fact I was hoping she would do a 360 after she lost everything but she didn't. I'm hoping she will in the next installment. (by the way I hate this short little reads), now I have to wait for the next short installment. So it just gives me time to decided if I really want to spent more time reading about Selfish Addi?

As for Stephen, I fell for him as soon as he is introduced, what he did for Addi through their friendship in school was great. If anyone was a door mat it was him. But I loved him for being so nice. Then he goes and screws it up. That was the fastest love turn to disappointment vibe I've had for a character.

So there you go that's my two cents.
For such a short story, this review is unusually long. However remember there was a lot of info in such a short length story.

The Kiss is about a girl, Addison, who grew up in Iowa and left behind everything and everyone she knew and loved, for a life of everything she had ever dreamed of in Florida. A great job, a massive house, Jimmy Choo shoes, and a perfect boyfriend. One horrible day that was all ripped out from under her and she had no other choice but to move back home to Iowa and in with her mom. Addison is then thrown another blow to the gut when she finds out her best friend, Stephen, is now engaged. As her world is continuing to get flipped upside down she decides the best way to cope with it all is to go out on New Year's Eve and drown her sorrows. Something happens at midnight that could change everything! Whether that something is good or bad, we'll just have to wait for book two to see!
I couldn't put this book down once I started reading it. I was born and raised in a small town in the Midwest, just like Addison, so I related to a lot of the things she mentions about her home in Iowa. It even gave me a few laughs. All in all, it was a great New Adult Contemporary Romance novella and I cannot wait to see where Addison's story leads her next!

This story was very quick. Addison is returning to her home town after what has been a very rough 6 months for her. She is no longer engaged and living on the sunny beaches of Florida, with her cushy job. I like that she doesn’t let all of this get her down. She gets right back on the horse. She decides to go out for a night on the town with one of her high school friends, and runs in to none other than her best friend Stephen. The chemistry between these two characters is sizzling. When old and new feelings are revealed, the story takes a jolting turn. What is in store for these characters next should be exciting.

I really enjoyed this story line...it read with a nice steady flow! I look forward to ready more of Addi's story and more about her Mom's new love (since she has been alone for so many years) I can only imagine that he must be a very special man.
The characters were well developed and pretty straight forward to their age, especially coming from a small town...I am also from a very small town and I can easily picture all of these characters in my home town.
Excellent writing Erica...job well done!! Thank you!!

This book was a short book but very good. Loved that the character moved to Florida and then had to move back to where she first was at because of breaking up with her fiance and that is when she found out he was gay. I loved the fact that she brought out all the people that she went to school with at the time there. I will have to continue reading as this was a great read for a short read. Glad I got to read something from a writer that I have never read before. Thank you. Great job.

I really loved the narrative of this story. Addison is a unique character you can't help but want to know more about. I read the whole thing in one evening and can honestly say the only thing I disliked was that it was too damn short! I'll definitely be reading the next one in the series! Way to go, Erica Christensen!

Left Hanging

Good start to a story and then left hanging. I am not particularly fond of series that can't be stand alone books. At least there should be some resolution if temporary.
