Call of the Rockies #6
Loving the Outcast's Redemption
New title and cover, same great story! (Formerly titled
Honor in the Mountain Refuge
)
This epic journey is his only chance to redeem his mistakes.
Chogan should’ve seen it coming when his tribe cast him out. He may look like a Blackfoot brave, but he refuses to act like one ever again—especially when it means kidnapping or killing innocent people. His protective actions toward Nez Perce captives proved that. Yet the pain of having nowhere to belong strikes deeper than he imagined. Worse, there’s one particular Nez Perce woman’s face he can’t get out of his mind…or heart. How can he make amends for the sins of his past?
If Telípe thought all would be well after her rescue from kidnappers, she couldn’t have been more wrong. With her husband now dead and the birth of their first baby imminent, she’s forced to seek shelter in the chaotic, overcrowded lodge of her youth. The solitude she finds only in the wilderness outside the village becomes a haven…until she comes face to face with the Blackfoot brave who once helped kidnap her. Yet even in her terror, she senses a spark of something unexpected—hope.
But Chogan isn’t the only threat to her village. With a massive wildcat stalking her people, Telipe must decide whether to trust Chogan’s help. He proved his compassion and bravery when he’d kept her safe during her kidnapping, and her regard grows as she sees his determination to help her tribe—the very people who want him dead. As the wildcat closes in, one thing is someone is going to be hurt—or killed—and it may cost Telipe and Chogan everything.
From a USA Today bestselling author comes another epic journey through breathless landscapes and adventure so intense, lives will never be the same.

If you’ve read the book description, there’s not much I can add about the plot. What I can say is that this is one of the best books in the series.
It was heartfelt, emotional, and, by the end, had me choked up and wiping away a few tears. The characters felt genuine, and their struggles made the story all the more meaningful.
I highly recommend this series, and this installment is one of my favorites.

Honor in the Mountain Refuge is another wonderful addition to the Call of the Rockies series. It can be enjoyed as a stand alone book, as the author has done a good job of creating the setting and catching the reader up on the fact that Telípe is a widow who is with child and had previously been kidnapped by Chogan’s tribe.
I loved so many things about this book. The setting was described so well that I felt as if I was there, experiencing what day to day life was like for a new mother in this village. It seemed as if Telípe was part of the village and welcomed in, yet since she was having to rely on the kindness of her brother’s family, she still felt as if she did not really have her own life.
I also loved the way Chogan and Telípe connected. Once Telípe realized that Chogan really was trustworthy, their hearts were clearly pulled toward each other. They were also both thankful for the welcoming group of friends, of which Telípe’s sister, Meksem, was part of. Both Chogan and Telípe had a hunger to know more about God and this novel had a beautiful faith message.
Having read the other books in the series, it was great to be able to see beloved characters again and see how their lives were progressing. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I love the unlikely friendship that blossoms between Telípe and Chogan! She realized his kind and compassionate nature when he cared for her and protected her when she had been kidnapped by the Blackfoot warriors in a previous book in the series. With Chogan outcast from his tribe for rejecting violence, we learn about his struggles with his father and his search for purpose which unexpectedly leads him to reunite with Telípe. Their curiosity about each other lead to meeting in secret, and they develop a sweet connection. Chogan's protectiveness is endearing and his service to Telípe's village helps him find a level of acceptance as he continues to seek God's will for his future. I enjoyed the growing faith of both Chogan and Telípe as they embrace Christianity with help from the group of friends that have been traveling throughout the series but are beginning to settle down with new families starting.

I absolutely love this series from Misty Beller! I have always loved history, even as a child, and especially enjoyed the stories of Native Americans, because one of my distant ancestors was Cherokee. This series is so satisfying to read and full of history and a very accurate portrayal of the ways of life of the Native Americans and the settlers who lived in peace with them.
Beller creates these stories so well and populates them with nearly real characters and deftly weaves the precious message of Christ into each one. I was captivated throughout. Well done!
My thanks to the publisher and author for a copy of this book. The opinion here is expressly my own.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
I love anything Misty Beller writes. I was introduced to Misty soon after I started reviewing for Celebrate Lit and have read all of her books since. Honor in the Mountain Refuge is the sixth book in the Call of the Rockies series. I am so glad Telípe is finally getting her own story. She is such a brave character and I love the attraction between she and Chogan. In the scene of the wildcat, Chogan wants so bad to prove himself capable of Telípe and how much he loves her.
Misty Beller does a fantastic job writing this book, her characters are so realistic, and by this sixth book, I feel they are now part of my family. I also love and appreciate the way Beller weaves the gospel within the story in the life’s of her characters. And with Honor in the Mountain Refuge especially that we saw some of the sweet character come to know our Lord and Savior. But no worries, this is done in such a subtle smooth way it doesn’t offend. As with all of Beller’s books, this one is so chunked full of action it is really hard for me to put it down after I started reading. The scenes are do detailed it makes me feel like I’m there in the mist of everything. I find myself wondering how Misty Beller does this but it’s because of her expert writing skills, attention to details and love of these Rocky Mountains. If you love a good historical story where Indians are much involved, you will love Honor in the Mountain Refuge by Misty Beller. I encourage to to check out this book as well as the other books in this series.
A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Imagine being cut off from your family, from all that is familiar and being sent out into the darkness with nothing but a tomahawk and a knife. This is now the life of Chogan, a Blackfoot with no home, waiting for the Great Spirit to show him what his purpose is in life.
The author once again takes us up into the mountains with rich detail that brings the rugged peaks alive - the awesome beauty and the incredible danger for the unwary. Trust is not easily given, but when it is, you are a friend for life and you just may have found a new home and family.
A wonderful story that introduces us to new characters in the Call of the Rockies series, the reader is reminded of those in stories past. However, while it can stand alone, you will want to avail yourself of the other wonderful tales of what life was like in the Rockies in days gone by.
This ARC was received through Misty M Beller Books. These impressions and comments are my own and were in no way solicited.

Honor in the Mountain Refuge is the sixth installment from Misty M Beller’s Call of the Rockies series. I have loved every single one of the previous books and this one does not disappoint. I believe each one can be read as a stand alone. I adored Telípe and Chogan’s story. I loved the historical details that made me feel like I was part of the tale. Such a beautiful and inspiring book to read.
I am giving Honor in the Mountain Refuge a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean historical fiction. As always, I will be looking forward to more by Misty M Beller in the future.
I received a paperback copy of Honor in the Mountain Refuge from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

These stories just keep getting better and better. I love Beller's characters to the moon and back and can't wait to read the next installment. Starting all over at the beginning just to spend more time in this story world is highly likely. I absolutely recommend this series and everything Misty Beller touches, she's a master storyteller.

In this sixth book of the Call of the Rockies series, Misty Beller pens another engaging adventure. As with the prior books, “Honor in the Mountain Refuge” can be read as a stand-alone but continues the story of former characters and is best appreciated chronologically. Set in the Clearwater River Valley in the future Idaho Territory in the summer of 1831, this narrative follows Telipe, the Nez Perce half-sister of Meksem who was kidnapped by the Blackfoot in book 3, “Light in the Mountain Sky.” She has returned, pregnant, to her home village after the death of her husband, yearning for “her own life again, free from the pressure to wed a man she couldn’t even bring herself to like.” She misses her former life and finds it difficult to deal with the commotion of her younger brothers, but she doesn’t know where her future lies.
Feeling similarly displaced, Chogan has been disowned by his father and the Blackfoot tribe whose bloodthirst he has never shared. As one of Telipe’s former captors, he ensured her wellbeing, and when they encounter each other in the woods, Chogan wonders if he was led here for a reason. Telipe feels understandably unsettled about him: “He was such a mystery, this man. Enemy, yet friend. Fierce warrior, yet gentle and kind. Undecided, yet determined.” I think that this unlikely pair is a large part of the reason that I found “Honor in the Mountain Refuge” so compelling. There were a few times during my reading that I questioned the odds of certain circumstances happening, but then again, that is part of the point; sometimes we encounter impossible situations in order for the Lord to step in to achieve what only He can, and sometimes things happen to reveal to us the divine intervention at work behind them.
Beller creates a unique model of harmonious collaboration within Telipe’s village, one that reminds me of the body of Christ. Besides the indigenous Nez Perce tribe, there are interracial couples, trappers, and native Blackfeet. Telipe amusedly remarks to herself, “Conversation flowed freely among the group, sometimes in Nimiiputimpt, sometimes in English. And she couldn’t be certain, but it seemed like every so often, a bit of the French tongue slipped in. There was such a mix of nationalities and languages represented in this group that it was a wonder anyone could follow along. Often, Elan or Beaver tail would lean forward and translate something said into a language the rest could understand.” The first thing that came to mind while reading this description was the “great multitude” spoken of in Revelation 7:9. It is a beautiful depiction of what the church should be like here on earth, too, and it dovetails well with the faith journey of the main characters. When people see the peace and joy that our faith produces in us and experience the Lord working through us, they will be more inclined to seek the Savior.

Once again we continue our journey with our band of friends and we are following Telipe's struggles after her sister Meskem and friends save her from the Blackfoot raiding party.
Telipe is back with her brother and his family in her old village and waiting on the birth of her child when she sees a familiar face but one who shouldn't be here. Her fear rises but she soon realizes this man isn't here to hurt her but once again will save her.
Chogan has been cast out of his village for his lack of brutal instinct. He can't go along with his father's ways so he is sent away. He feels a pull to go west and would love to find Telipe again but knows she is wed to another so he purposely avoids her village and goes further west in search of something but he does not know what yet. When he finds Telipe where she shouldn't be it is clear that the Great Spirit has led him here for her. What he doesn't know is he will find more than his love in this village, he will find friends and he will learn of God and all his wonders for his future.
This series is amazing. It is a trip to the past with both Native Americans and other nationalities all living together in peace. There is love but also it shows the dangers that were faced for the people of this time. The hardships they faced and how difficult it must have been. I love that this author takes us back in time and paints a picture we can see in our mind with her words. We get to know these characters and they become friends. People we come to care about and hope for their happiness. That was the case with Chogan and Telipe for me. There love story had lots of hurdles to get over and it was great to be along for their journey.
I received an early copy to read and review with my honest opinion. I loved this book as I have each in the series. Each book is about a couple finding their way not only to each other but to God but each book is also a continuation of the story of all our travelers. We add new characters along the way but we still have our original group in each book too. Fantastically written and interesting and I highly recommend it.

Honor in the Mountain Refuge is the 6th book in the Call of the Rockies series by Misty M. Beller. I have not read all the books in this series, but I have read a couple of them before this one. I do like to read Series books, although this series is great as a Standalone book. I have never been lost when reading the books out of order.
Chogan has been exiled from his Blackfoot village because he was friendly and kind to the Nez Perce captives. He is now on a search for where he is meant to be in life. His heart and mind are really on Telípe, a woman from the Nex Perce Village. He understands her focus is on her husband and her pregnancy, so he stays away from her Village. Telípe's husband has recently died and she is about to give birth to their child very soon. She has returned to the Village where she grew up to be around her family. She would rather be on her own as she prepares to give birth, but there are things holding her back. Telípe runs into Chogan and her heart just flutters with Hope. Chogan would love to stay in the Village with Telípe, but her Trible and family are against this due to his participation in holding their Village captive. Can Chogan prove to the Village that his intentions with Telípe are good? Will Chogan and Telípe survive a "forbidden" LOVE and be welcomed as a couple?
WOW, Misty M. Beller has written another GREAT book! I have become a fan of Misty M. Beller in the past few years and I am always excited to read her books and this one was certainly up there as one of her best books. The storyline grabs the reader in very quickly and the excitement of the story continues throughout. The "Forbidden LOVE" theme of the book is one that really intrigues me. Chogan and Telípe are really great characters and the author does a great job at highlighting their strengths and weaknesses in the book. The book is also Faith based and the Gospel is clearly represented throughout the book. I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Fiction! FANTASTIC BOOK!

Another mountain adventure by author Beller, but this time we stick closer to the Native American camp where many characters from earlier on in this series have settled for a time. The focus is on Telipe and her captor/honorable brave Chogan's story.
I did not read the story where Telipe was kidnapped by the Blackfoot tribe, but this story read well as a stand-alone anyway. Telipe who is very pregnant at the beginning of this story and is struggling to find her place in her world after the recent death of her husband. Even though theirs was an arranged marriage, she did look forward to sharing her life with him. Now alone and about to be a mother and relying on the kindness of her brother and his family, Telipe feels lost and uncertain. That is until Chogan, her one time captor and protector, steps out from the shadows again. She is confused by the feelings he brings up within her and she is on guard for other reasons as well.
Chogan is an honorable character. He did not go along with the capture of others for slaves, but only wanted to prove his worth to his father. But that did not go well and now he is a wanderer searching for the Great Spirit's guidance and unable to forget the woman who made such and impact on his heart.
This is not a long story but much happens as they find each other again and how Chogan and Telipe see a chance for a family, fitting in with this village, and the longing to be part of the close relationship, even despite the different nationalities of the small group of friends in the community. All the while everyone is on edge as a dangerous predator stalks them.
I enjoyed getting a chance to reconnect with some previous characters and for a glimpse into a Native American village.
I was provided a copy of this novel by the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

This book is not a long book - it is under 200 pages. The story is told so well, that any more pages are not needed. I read this as a stand alone, I have some of the books in this book series, but not all. I do not have nor have I read the book before this one in the series. Because I am familiar with the characters in the series, I really didn't need the book before this and the author did explain why the two main characters already knew each other.
This book is a love story. Two people who due to past connections, had already formed a relationship and maybe a little crush on each other, even though the woman character was married. Her husband dies and so she now can continue the relationship with the hero.
Twin girls are born and they are an important part of the plot - because they now have a "father".
God brought the hero and the heroine together - that is easy to see.
Favorite characters from past books in this series are here.
Hunting a mountain cat becomes the conflict in the story, because other then the cat - there is no conflict.
Chogan and Telipe are one of my favorite couples. Chogan because he is the perfect man and Telipe because she is the perfect mother and girlfriend!!!
BEST USE OF: mountain lion, twin girls, it takes a village!!
ALPHA MALE: 10+++++
SPUNKY HEROINE: 10+++++
CUTE CHILDREN: 10+++++++++
HEA: Yes!! Hopefully Chogan and Telipe's wedding will be in next book!!
SEX: two very sexy kisses
PROLOGUE/EPILOGUE: Epilogue only and it is not satisfying because there is no wedding - but that is why it is a series of books
Rating:
10 - a keeper forever - I will not be buying the next book - but I know what will happen
Heat:
1 - kisses only and they are pretty sexy chaste kisses
COVER COVERS IT: Best.Cover.Ever. Reflects the heroine and the mountains they live in.
HOLLYWOOD CALLING: I have said from the beginning that this book series should be a TV series.

I am so happy that Telipe has her own story. She is brave, compassionate and in love with someone her tribe doesn’t trust. I admire her bravery in trying to protect a Blackfoot who her people blame for her kidnapping as a young girl. There is so much depth to the story and I like how we reconnect with Telipe as a young woman. Giving birth to twins will keep her busy, but she still desires to see Chogan. I wonder how she will convince the tribe that he saved her life and is not the bad person they think he is?
Chogan is nothing like the people of Telipe’s village thinks he is. He doesn’t like to go to battle but instead wants to supply food for those he cares for. He is a peaceful man who wants to be able to see Telipe and her children. I loved how determined Chogan was to capture the wildcat and get respect from Telipe’s tribe. It will be dangerous but he knows this is what he needs to do. Now maybe his mission has been revealed. The author clearly describes the terrain and I felt like I was seeing it through Chogan’s eyes. The wildcat is fierce and I know I would not want to hunt the animal for fear of injury or worse.
The story focuses on the wildcat as it inches closer to the camp. The men set out to find it before it can harm anyone else. We see how brave Chogan is when someone he loves is in danger. With the author’s gift of details you can almost feel the wildcat’s breath as it sees Chogan. This was an especially great scene between animal and man.
The ending is good and includes a great scene where God answers prayers and several characters begin a relationship with Him. I loved how they were led to Christ and the story ends with a new beginning for Chogan and Telipe.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Beller has written another interesting Historical set in the great Rocky Mountains. In this book we visit some of the previous characters from the other books. All tribes of Native Americans do not speak and understand each other’s ways. We find in this novel, Chogan, exiled from the Blackfoot Tribe, traveled to check on Telipe, a woman from the Nex Perce Village. Telipe was kidnapped and her sister Meskem, a warrior, and her friends saved her from a Blackfoot raiding party. She is with child and has returned to her old village to be with her family after her aged husband died. One day while out gathering, she had wandered a little far than she should have, she spied Chogan and was filled with fear. He tried tiocommunicate to her that he means her no harm. Each time she goes out, she sees him and becomes very interested in him and of course he is interested in her. Chogan would love to stay in the Village with Telípe, but her Trible and family are against this due to his participation in holding their Village captive at one time. I love how Beller brings her characters to life before your eyes and the description of the actions of them makes it all so real. You feel as if you were there watching. This story has intrigue, suspense, love and fulfillment of that love! Also faith in The Great Spirit {God} and learning to know Him and follow His leading. Another great book from Misty M Beller! I was provided a copy of this novel by the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

Honor in the Mountain Refuge is the sixth book in the Call of the Rockies series by Misty M. Beller, and although part of a series, it could be read as a stand-alone book. Since characters are carried through the series, it will give a fuller picture of who they are and how they are related. Having read several of this author's books, I eagerly anticipated reading Honor in the Mountain Refuge and I was thoroughly enchanted by it. The writing style is graceful and flows smoothly as the author tells Chogan and Telìpe's story of adventure and romance. Watching their relationship develop throughout the story kept my interest. I wondered how it would all turn out with Chogan being part of an enemy tribe who had kidnapped Telìpe in a previous book. Strong characters that are so likable, very intense realistic situations, wonderfully descriptive scenes all work together for a delightful story. And threaded throughout the book is a faith in God--the God who truly knows and answers His children's prayers. I liked the strong relationships of the women in Telìpe's camp and how the women all came together to share in the care for the children. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of Ms. Beller's books.

Honor in the Mountain Refuge is book six in the Call of the Rockies series. This book is written by Misty Beller. I have only read books: three, four and five. I feel that they can be read as stand alone books. One of the best things about this author is how she can capture historical time periods. Every book about Native Americans that she writes teaches you so much. I love the details she puts in her books so that it is as real feeling as possible.
Telípe has lost her husband and she is expecting a child. Chogan lacks the war like nature that is required of his tribe. He has been sent away. He has a tender heart and showed compassion to Telípe. Chogan's tribe had previously kidnapped Telípe. Once Telípe realized that Chogan was different and worthy of her trust - their love story can start to build. I love the story of two people from feuding tribes, but God's love and redemption is shining through.
Misty always writes such beautiful stories. You will be drawn in within the first few pages. The settings are described so beautifully that you will feel like you are there. She always weaves such beautiful reminders of God's loving grace, forgiveness and second chances.
I received a copy of this book through the Celebrate Lit Blogging Program, all thoughts are my own.

Honor in the Mountain Refuge by Misty M. Beller is book six in the Call of the Rockies Series. While this is a nice stand alone story, this book does follow after the rest in the series and mentions past characters, so it is best to read in order. Telipe's husband dies before their child is born and she is forced to return to her family's village. Chogan is sent away from his Blackfoot village by his father and the two's paths meet a second time. They develop a forbidden friendship that is tested when he is captured by her tribe. When a dangerous wildcat threatens the safety of the village, he is allowed to join in the search.
This is a fast moving, suspenseful Christian historical fiction story. This story has the theme of forgiveness and second chances running through it. I especially enjoy catching up with the past characters and seeing how Telipe is connected to them. I enjoyed the strength Chogan has and the care he extends toward the members of her tribe, even when they distrust him. I especially enjoy the way the message of God is woven into the story. I also enjoyed how the people of the village all worked together to care for each other and see to their needs.

My review today is on the Historical Romance, Honor in the Mountain Refuge. This is book six in the series Call of the Rockies. I so enjoy Mistie's stories. I'm not sure where she gets her storylines but I love her work. This book is well-written, action-packed, and will touch your heart.
Telipe is about to give birth. Her husband had died, she had been kidnapped, rescued, and brought back to her brother's home. She knows he wants to marry her off but she doesn't want to marry the brave that he has chosen. As she is picking Chokecherries she sees the brave that kept her alive and well when she was kidnapped. He's a Blackfoot brave, an enemy to her people but she cares for him.
Chogan has been thrown out of his tribe and has come to make sure Telipe is well. He brings her meat other items she might need. He is caught by her tribe and held. Telipe's friends take him under their wings and help the couple.
A journey of love and survival. God has a plan for these two and her children. A good plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a plan for peace and not for destruction, even in this time of turmoil. Give Him your heart and watch Him move in your life.

Telipe is trying to find a way to belong in the village after her husband passes away and she is expecting her baby to be born at any time. When she sees a Blackfoot brave Chogin in the woods near her village, she is not sure what to expect. As they spend more time with one another, they feel connected to one another. How could anything come from their relationship when he was from the Blackfoot village that took her away from her home?
One might assume in a book series that the story might turn stale by book 6. Misty Beller proves that is not the case in her book, Honor in the Mountain. I have read all the books in the series and I feel like this book was my favorite so far.
I enjoyed getting to know the characters in this book as well as visiting with old friends from other books. I could not put down the book to see what would happen to the village being taunted by the wildcat. I am looking forward to the last book in the series.
I would really recommend this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own and I was not required to leave a positive review.

I have enjoyed every single book in this series. The characters are rich and relatable. The scenery is beautifully described. I feel like I'm a part of this band of friends, a part of their family. Each book in this series can be read as a stand alone, but I highly recommend starting from the beginning to really embrace the relationships between the various members.
Chogan has been dis-owned by his father and his Blackfoot village. He believes the Great Spirit is leading him to the Great water, until he finds himself face to face with Telipe.
After the death of her husband, Telipe has returned to her childhood village. Her brothers and sisters are all present, awaiting the birth of her child. She thought she'd never see the warrior who set himself as guardian and protector during her Blackfoot captivity.
When Chogan declares the Great Spirit has lead him to her to help her, she is both intrigued and fearful. he is Blackfoot, the sworn enemy of her people, the Nimipuu. Neither Chogan nor Telipe can deny the attraction, but he obstacles they must face are very real and dangerous.

November 5, 2021Honor in the Mountain Refuge is the 6th book in the Call of the Rockies series. I have not personally read every book in the series and find that they do read fine as standalones. That said, they are a continuation so I'm sure you'll get the most full look at the journey by reading the series as a whole.
Whether you've read one book or the series, the author does a great job of taking us on this journey with these characters. She paints a great picture that helps to make us feel like we are right there with them, which I think is so important with this type of historical fiction read. The characters draw you in and you find yourself wanting to go along on their journey with them. While this paryicular time period of historical fiction might not be my most preferred, I certainly appreciated Misty M. Beller's beautiful story telling each and every time. Overall, it was an enjoyable read that fans of Christian historical romance are sure to want to add to their TBR.
**I received a complimentary copy for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

I really love this author. Her books have an element of suspense to them though it’s not huge or extremely suspenseful. Plus her books have romance and it’s all centered around Christ.
Misty M. Beller has lots of great books and this new series is amazing just like the others. I highly recommend that you read series in order because they all build on each other. While they can be read as singles you will get the best experience by reading them together as a series.
I loved spending time with Telipe and Chogan and seeing their relationship bloom. He started as her kind captor and might end up her savior. But will he face adversity no matter where he goes? Will he continue to always choose the right and good path even when it’s hard?
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. Telipe is ready to give birth, but she runs into Chogan, a castaway Blackfoot. Now she’s not sure what to do since she’s attracted to him. The birth of her twins doesn’t change her mind. But a wildcat on the loose might affect the young love before it can mature.
This novel includes plenty of scenery. I could almost see the setting in my mind.
The chronology progresses well and has a pleasing flow. But the choppy flow at the beginning almost made me want to put the book down.
While this novel is number 6 in a series, there’s plenty of backstory in the beginning so this book could stand alone at least until the epilogue which made no sense to me. I could definitely tell I was missing a bunch of context.
Telipe’s quick recovery after giving birth to twins is unrealistic. Also, a wildcat would probably not put a paw on a baby and not eat the child
Note: A vivid animal killing scene and Native Americans converting to God rather than the Great Spirit could be trauma-triggering for some readers.

Another winner by Misty Beller! This was an amazing and heartwarming story. You see some characters from the last book of the series and there is a wonderful continuation. The story tells of Telipe, who we met in the last book as having been taken captive by the Blackfoot warriors. However, we find out a little more that started to transpire from that event. A beautiful story develops and as with each of the author's books, there is action and adventure, and some trials and struggles along the way. And of course, some romance! And I absolutely love the characters, Chogan and Telipe being the characters that the story revolves around.
So this book was wonderful and I always look forward to each and every book this author writes. There is so much history to learn from and amazing stories. You won't want to miss this excellent series. It is very good reading!

Honor in the Mountain Refuge continues the story of the characters we’ve come to love in the previous volumes in the Call of the Rockies series. In Honor in the Mountain Refuge Misty Beller focuses on the story of Telipe and her kind captor Chogan. Throughout the story we sense a longing for God and a desire to find and serve him. The Gospel is clearly presented and through some tragic situations and the faithful witness of their friends both Telipe and Chogan find the Savior. The final paragraphs of the book bring back previous characters leaving me hopeful that another story in this series is in the works.
While Honor in the Mountain Refuge is an adult Christian historical romance, there is nothing to keep it from being added to a k-12 Christian school library. I think I would mark it as high school only.

Family is not just whom you were born into. It is made up of the people who support you, guide you and love you. Telipe learned this after tragedy struck.
Chogan left all he knew for a new life. He didn't expect to cross paths with Telipe. Did GOD have his finger on this? Was this GOD'S plan?
No one knows what the future holds. I'm glad to say that I didn't. At times, I felt lost and confused. Was there a lesson hidden somewhere that I was suppose to pay attention to?
Telipe and Choban had those same questions. Even though their story was based in a different time. But their thoughts and feelings are the same as if it was in today's world. What path should I take?
I love all of Misty M. Beller's books. They are not only thought provoking but a joyful read.

As book 7 in the Call of the Rockies series by Misty M. Beller, this book chronicles the relationship between Telipe and Chogan. As parts of two different tribes, Chogan and his fellow warriors kidnapped Telipe earlier in the series, but now exiled by his tribe, Chogan seeks to find his own path. Believing Telipe to be a married woman, he crosses paths with her and discovers her husband had died while she still carries their child.
This story examines how Chogan and Telipe navigate the waters of a tumultuous relationship during her pregnancy and then the delivery of her unexpected twin daughters. The two, along with her people, also attempt to survive a wildcat that sets its sights on the village. As Chogan develops a relationship with Telipe’s people, the two move into a new relationship. As will the other books in this series, I highly recommend reading it.

I really liked Honor in the Mountain Refuge. I enjoyed getting to know Telipe and her tribe, as well as seeing some of the characters that I have met in some of the other books I have read in this series. I enjoyed learning a bit more about what daily life was probably like for the Nez Perce tribes, and the preparations that they had to make for the coming winter.
I also enjoyed getting to know Chogan and how he looks out for Telipe’s welfare, as well as does what he can to earn the trust of her tribe. I liked watching the romance blossom between them, and I would love to see what happens to these two characters next.
Overall, I really liked Honor in the Mountain Refuge and I am hoping to go back and read the couple of books that I haven’t yet read in this series, as well as read more of Misty M. Beller’s work in the future. 3.5/5 Stars.
