I have often seen people getting confused and remaining indecisive for a major part of their lives. I was in a similar boat and have often turned to Krishna Bhagwan at the time of such conundrum. He with his timeless wisdom through Srimad Bhagavad Gita has always helped me and hence when I read the title of this book , couldn't stop myself from picking it.
Having read previous work of the author , I knew I am up for a treat. The book is divided into two parts :- First talks about sequences of Mahabharata and what can be learned from the epic and second part is really important as it gives a sneak peak into how those lessons can be applied to real world today .
The relatability quotient of book is really high. Author in very simple words has tried to inculcate virtues of discipline, courage , perseverance and enjoying the work rather than taking it as a burden. Every human faces immense challenges in their life but only those who stay till the end without getting bogged down are the true winners.
Everyone should pick this book for its simplicity and lifelong learning.
This book takes a unique approach by trying to blend ancient philosophical thought with spirituality and entertaining tales. Upon analysis, it transcends these components by offering genuine and fully engaging narratives while also encouraging reflection on the vital and contemporary questions which the tales address!
This book is unique with its dualistic construction. The first part outlines nine interconnected short tales from the Mahabharata which highlight the central role of Lord Krishna in the life of Arjuna and in supporting other fighters. Each disciple is prefaced with shlokas which are also depicted in the Bhagwad Gita and narrate the story in the middle, culminating in a few lessons and quotes which are indeed relevant in today's context!
Part Two of the book approaches modern dilemmas such as procrastination, grief, loneliness, and stress through simple case studies. These dilemmas are juxtaposed with the relevant excerpts from the Bhagwad Gita and practical recommendations are made in the form of “Tips from Krishna” to tackle the problems as if the reader is hearing them from Krishna himself!
The text is always engaging and structured in a way that is aimed at easy comprehension which is great for beginners as much as it is for readers across every genre. The book is filled with incredible and practical quotes which can be deployed in day to day life and also offers profound lessons and inspiration!
The best enjoyed the most how real and personal the book feels like. It is like talking to a trusted, authentic and blunt confidant. In the end, it seems to me that every reader, like myself, has managed to forge a deeper connection with Krishna from the book. The clarity and direction the book provided me with is for certain something I can share with anyone in quest for peace and the truth to existence!
Some stories end with a happily ever after. This falsely makes you believe that life is eternal which is why death comes as a rude shock. Your fantasy of ever after comes crashing down. Krishna reassures that death is not the period, but the comma in the story of life.
It's amazing how the principles from centuries ago can still be applied to the challenges we face today. Yes. Presenting my most recent read- iCONS OF THE MAHABHARATA - UNDEFEATABLE KRISHNA. And I must say this book met all my expectations and left me buzzed up with all the learning. This will help you to live your life in a more positive way. Look at this, I've literally highlighted this much. I would love to share my highlights and takeways from this book, which I'll be sharing in coming days.
This book is a guide to achieve success in life as well as if you ever stuck in any difficult situation this book gives you ways to solve that problem.
The book is divided into 9 crucial chapters And at the end of the last chapter there is another very beautiful chapter- the wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita which includes verses from bhagavat Gita reflects the teachings related to Bhagavad Gita and their meaning in today's life have been explained in a deeper way which is highly praiseworthy.
So there were a few chapters explained soo well, let me tell you one section That section in page 52 was - a birth like no other. There was a story.
And The whole message of the story is
Making decisions on half- baked knowledge is foolish.
My personal favourite takeaways or I can say some important things I learnt and I'm gonna apply in my life too would be:
1. Your focus in life should not only be on gaining but also giving. Developing a giving attitude can help balance your life. As Greed degrades you.
Krishna says that the body is perishable and not worthy of lament, the soul is imperishable and not worthy of lament either. It is better to focus on experiences with the person who is no more, than lament perishing of their physical body.
Every effort has its imperfections, just as every fire produces smoke. Do not abandon your duties because of these flaws, instead, draw strength and purpose from them.
See every failure as a learning opportunity, you become better. While success teaches you what to do, failure teaches you what not to do. Both success and failure are good teachers, you need to become a good student.
It is important to face our past realities head on to move forward.
Your actions and words should reflect your values.
1. Separate your needs from your wants
2. Collect experiences and not things
3. Adopt a mindset of abundance
4. Identify the void you are trying to fill
5. Stop comparing yourself with others
6. Beaware of signs of unhealthy ambition
The author has extracted the core teachings of Bhagavad Gita like a GEM. The teachings of Lord Krishna give us a clear vision of how to live a life , especially when we are surrounded by difficult situations. It gives strength and coverage in challenging situations of life. Lord Krishna's life itself indeed is a perfect example of a Yogi , a Spiritual giant , a lover , a protector , cheerful acceptance of everything, sacrifice and many other virtues which truly make HIM the most loving and Revered Avatar Purusha.

It’s a valuable read that offers timeless insights in a way that’s easy to relate to. Give it a read—you won’t regret it!
Shri Shubha Vilas's 'Undefeatable KRISHNA' is a classical uncovering of 'Devadevottama devaḥ sarvabhaumaḥ' Kṛṣṇa Paramātmā from the modern lens of wisdom culmination. As a popular phrase goes, 'कर्षति आकर्षति इति कृष्णः' iterates the saying 'Kṛṣṇa is someone who attracts and puts people on the righteous path to attain sagacity towards Mokṣa.' Bhagavan Kṛṣṇa isn't just a cowherd who drove Savyasachi in the warfield; his personality is far beyond the understanding of तुच्छ Mānava's like us.
Authors like Shubha Vilas, with śāstrīya and laukikā ज्ञानम्, are always a boon to spiritual seekers like me to understand the Paramātmā in a different dimension. Bhagavan Shri Krishna, the supreme bráhman, is the true inspiration till eternity. Rather than being just a celestial exemplar, from his Jānāna (the birth) till the end of the incarnation (अवतार समाप्ति), Shri Krishna Paramātmā emboldened the prajā and the cosmic loka through his teachings, preachings, exemplification, quintessence, and so on.
In this "Undefeatable KRISHNA" [Book 1], Shubha Ji brings us नव कथा (nava kathā) of Shri Krishna's strategies and wisdom through the events adhering to the श्रीमहाभारतम् (Śrī-Mahābhāratam) chronology. He personifies Shri Krishna with real-time inspirations and draws the impetus from our day-to-day events. From the iconic 'Khāṇḍava dahana' (खाण्डवदाहन्) till 'Stri Parva' (स्त्री पर्व) of kṛṣṇaḥ-Gāndhārī saṃvāda (conversation), the author neatly draws ingenuity and incitement that Krishna Paramātmā offered to mankind.
As a universal fact, India's great epic Mahābhārata orbits around the glories of Krishna Paramātmā's shrewdness, intelligence, acuity, wisdom, discernment, percipience, and more. But from normal thought-processing, we often overlook the epic as merely a sibling rivalry over sovereignty and kingship. Shubha Ji, in this first book, takes nine events from the classic epic to uncover Krishna's abilities through the lens of strategy, compassion, resourcefulness, perception, morality, and so on.
For me personally, this book is a decision-making manual; every story presented provides strong motivation and guides me toward the right solution and prudent decision-making. Unlike my usual book-reading agility, I cherished every word presented in this book as a पुष्पार्चन (floral tribute) to Jagannātha Prabhujī. I am sure this work is unique of its kind, presenting the glories of God and intuitive impetus with the motive of steering destinies and inspiring righteousness.
The crux lies in the second half of the book, where the author maps the knowledge and wisdom of Shri Krishna through real-life insinuations. He picks appropriate examples to explain their issues and deduce solutions through the lens of Krishna's Mystical Wisdom Takeaways along with Bhagavad Gita shlokas and their translative analysis. Every story is so unique that readers can easily relate to their personal experiences and circumstances, thus seeking solutions through the ingenious impetus decoded by Shri Shubha Vilas Ji.
The author says that the Mahabharata cannot be confined to a single series, Icons of the Mahabharata series will have many book and this the first in the series.
The book has two section, section one tells the stories of different characters and their choices which gave birth to the yudha happened in kurukshetra.
It conveys the story of krishna in Mahabharata War, how he helped Pandavas and what was his priorities and to fulfill it, what he did and why he did. He is the supreme lord and he knows everything and seeing his magic in the book, I was astonished.
I knew all the stories the book shared and I loved it how author presented it by giving every story a title and shared the shlokas of Bhagvadgeeta, the shlokas are taken in a meticulous way, such that the story also tells and convey what the shlokas meanings.
The second part of the book have the knowledge of Bhagvadgeeta shlokas, there author has named this part as "The Wisdom of The Bhagvadgeeta. In this Author takes a story of a person and the shlokas from Geeta to preach and point out what krishna said about it and how you can become better by learning the principle and the good way to overcome the problem in which the person find himself stuck in.
This is the book of devotional knowledge and to know more about the journey of krishna in Mahabharata and the knowledge he gave to Arjuna in Mahabharata, taking and making him understand about the soul, life, determination,Dharma, Bhakti yoga and on various topics which gave Arjuna a perspective to focus on his Karma.
The indigenous thought of Geeta always helps the people who is in search to find themselves and to be united from the eternal path of liberation. The Geeta knowlege is the way to meet the ultimate path of Nirvana by doing Bhakti yoga.
The book talks about the incident where Krishna was the prime meridian of the story like it has a story of Arjuna and Krishna helping Agni Dev, Mayasur taking refuge in Arjuna protection and making Indraprastha for the Pandavas, the curse of Gandhaari and the warm embrace of the Blind King of Kourabh and many more story.
Undefeatable Krishna by Shubha Vilas is the opening entry in his new Icons of the Mahabharata series. Building on the success of his six-part Ramayana: The Game of Life, Vilas now turns to Krishna. This book doesn’t just revisit the epic, it brings Krishna forward as a friend, strategist, and guide for our modern lives. As described in its summary, “Krishna remains undefeated, not only in battle, but in wisdom, compassion, and clarity.”
The book is neatly divided into two sections that build on each other. Part I explores Krishna’s role in the Mahabharata as a master problem-solver. We see how his calm, insight, and moral clarity helped steer destinies. Krishna’s qualities - compassion, foresight, balance are unpacked and revealed to the reader through key episodes of the epic, and through each, we learn how these traits remain relevant today. In Part II, Vilas turns to the Bhagavad Gita, interpreting select verses and relating them to everyday concerns like stress, moral dilemmas, and uncertainty. The book even adds real-life examples and presents Krishna’s message in a way that the reader feels a direct conversation with the author, as if listening to an exchange of dialogue.
What I love is how the book’s tone feels like a dialogue with a friend. Vilas includes original Sanskrit shlokas followed by clear explanations, making ancient wisdom feel alive and accessible. The narrative works like stories - easy, engaging, and rich with meaning. One moment I read there was reflected in how I approached a tough decision or conflict later that day. That personal connection stayed with me.
This isn’t just another spiritual guide. It’s much more: a toolkit for life. Combining story, scripture, and clarity, it gently nudges you toward strength, focus, and balance. It’s mythology without mystique, ancient wisdom without heaviness.
If you’re looking for a calm, thoughtful read grounded in timeless wisdom, this is a perfect choice. Undefeatable Krishna offers a modern lens on Krishna’s timeless presence—making it a grounding, enriching read you’ll return to whenever you need clarity and strength.

I have always felt connected to Krishna, an enigma of a person ever since I truly felt for him in Palace of Illusions by Chitra Devakaruni, and I am a mythology lover, quite a buff thanks to Amar Chitra Katha. I especially felt like this book was calling me in during Janmashtami. So I had to read this one.
For context, this book delves into lessons to be learnt from Krishna during Mahabharata, piercing through this persona as he helped the Pandavas gain victory over Kauravas. He has strewn across many gems which still needed to be absorbed the more you read about him. This book is split into two parts, firstly delving into storytelling of sequences of Mahabharatha with quotes of understanding added in, second part digs deeper, giving scenarios of common challenges faced nowadays and the author's interpretation advice based on Krishna's thoughts shared in Bhagavad Gita.
Right in the beginning, I am going to be honest, It felt one dimensional which I personally tend to struggle with, but as I kept reading, I started to get the flow of the author wanting us to interpret, and slowly slowly it got deeper. Part two really did pack a punch, that I fell for the depth of lessons, I guess sometimes we really need these lessons in a way we can interpret to add it to the repertoire of living our life in the best way we can live. I humbly thank the author for bringing this book to life.
This book serves as a manual for achieving success in life and provides solutions for any challenging circumstances you may encounter.
There are nine important chapters in the book. The wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita, which includes passages from the Bhagavad Gita, represents the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and their relevance in today's life has been presented in a deeper way, which is extremely praiseworthy. This leads to another really lovely chapter at the end of the previous one.
This book masterfully translates traditional knowledge into a contemporary setting, giving Krishna's lessons a very contemporary flavour. The author bridges the gap between traditional spiritual teachings and the fast-paced, complex world of today by fusing old wisdom with modern issues.
By combining spirituality with useful advice, the book gives readers the skills they need to deal with life's unavoidable obstacles. This book is a great resource for anyone looking for both inner calm and practical solutions because of its captivating narrative, which reinterprets timeless lessons for the modern world.
The book demonstrates how they overcame these obstacles by applying Krishna's teachings (the tortoise approach). Because of this, the book serves as both a story and a manual for leading a better life. Everyone may learn a lot from this book, which is easy to read.

Although the book gives the impression of being an ancient scripture, it is only when you read it that you truly appreciate the depth of each episode and how skillfully the author connects them to present-day situations. The best part about the Mahabharata and the Gita is that they do not feel like ancient scriptures; instead, their messages remain highly relevant to the present day. They discuss virtues such as righteousness, respect, courage, integrity, kindness, and friendship, as well as vices like jealousy, hatred, greed, unkindness, and war—all issues we encounter in our daily life. This is not just a retelling of the epic Mahabharata rather it helps the readers to dive into the depth of Krishna's action and analyses his role as problem solver and the ever watching guide.
The book is further divided into two sections: 1st section deals with the divine qualities that Krishna possessed for which he became immortal not just in the battle of Kurukshetra but also in the hearts of millions of people who seek truth and wisdom.
The second part deals with the verses from the Bhagavad Gita which explores the modern day challenges like purpose of life, stress, fear, relationship and moral dilemmas.
This book was written with the purpose of bringing clarity in the mind of the readers and I won't wrong to say that the author has delivered the purpose quite beautifully through his in depth research.

Picked this up expecting another retelling of Krishna’s life, but Shubha Vilas had other plans. This book basically deconstructed my entire understanding of leadership and strategy using stories I thought I already knew. The way Vilas connects Krishna’s actions to modern-day scenarios is brilliant - suddenly that story about lifting Govardhan hill becomes a masterclass in crisis management, and the butter-stealing tales reveal sophisticated negotiation tactics. Who knew?
What worked: Clean, accessible writing that doesn’t talk down to you. No heavy Sanskrit bombardment or preachy tone.
What didn’t: Sometimes felt like the author was trying a bit too hard to find modern parallels where simpler explanations might suffice.
You don’t need to be religious to appreciate this. I went in as a mythology skeptic and came out genuinely impressed by the strategic thinking patterns.
If you’ve ever wondered why some people seem to effortlessly navigate complex situations while the rest of us are still figuring out the rules, this book might have some answers.
Let's go beyond flute, charm and intrigue of Mahabharat war with this book "Undefeatable Krishna" by Shubha Vilas. This book narrates to us the stories from Lord Krishna's lifetime which has charmed our hearts for generations and which we’ve all grown up hearing, in this book these stories reveal to us the deeper wisdom hidden in them. This isn’t just mythology retold, it’s a guide to perseverance, clarity, and inner strength.
Each chapter, each quote makes you imagine the song of Bhagavad Gita which Lord Krishna sang for Arjuna in midst of Mahabharat war, its like Krishna himself is whispering solutions to our modern-day struggles, be it dealing with uncertainty, understanding relationships, or finding courage when the odds are stacked against us.
The writing is simple, yet profound. You pause after each story because it’s not just about Krishna’s victories, but about how his undefeatable spirit can reflect in our own lives too.
If you’re looking for a book that inspires, heals, and teaches without being preachy, Undefeatable Krishna is definitely worth reading.
It is an outstanding mix of storytelling and self-help knowledge. Shubha Vilas's Undefeatable Krishna is a detailed dive into Krishna as a problem solver and eternal mentor, bringing him to life not merely as the divine personality of the Mahabharata but as one of relevance to our daily lives. The first part conveys Krishna's eternal virtues in brief, quick-read stories from the Mahabharata. They are simple to read, and each of them starts with a verse from the Bhagavad Gita that sets the mood perfectly. The second part seemed even more intimate, it takes contemporary challenges such as sorrow, relationships, stress, and ethical dilemmas, and illustrates them using Krishna's teachings in a very down-to-earth manner. The "Tips from Krishna" had a greater impact, as if he was your personal guru. It's reflective, soothing, and contemplative but not too heavy or didactic. If you need clarity of mind along with peace of mind, this book will surely leave you with takeaways to implement in life.
The story of Krishna and Arjuna is not just about battles and vows—it is about how every loss hides a deeper gain, and how dharma, when upheld, turns weakness into strength.
The Pandavas’ acceptance of barren land, seen as compromise, became the very act that drew divine favor. Arjuna’s exile, born of duty, led him not only to Subhadra’s love but also to a powerful alliance. Again and again, what seemed like punishment revealed itself as hidden grace.
Krishna’s presence runs like a golden thread through these moments—sometimes laughing, sometimes sleepless with worry, always guiding with unmatched foresight. Whether washing the feet of brahmans at the Rajasuya Yagna or orchestrating the sacrifice of Ghatotkacha so Arjuna might live, he shows that true leadership lies in humility, strategy, and sacrifice.
What endures from these arcs is the truth that when human effort aligns with righteousness, it is met with divine strength. Krishna is not a distant god here but a friend, a strategist, and the unseen hand that turns despair into triumph.
Personally, I am always interested in reading stories from Krishna’s life, and this book was really enjoyable. The language is simple and clear. While reading, you’ll not only enjoy Krishna’s playful and friendly side especially his strong bond with Arjuna but also learn from the deep wisdom he shares during tough situations. His teachings about dharma (righteousness) and making the right decisions in difficult times are truly inspiring.
The best part of this book is how well it balances modern life challenges with Krishna’s timeless teachings. Once you start reading, you won’t feel like putting it down until you finish.
So overall, this book doesn’t just tell how Krishna helped the Pandavas win the war of Mahabharata, but also teaches the powerful life lessons he shared with both the Pandavas and Kauravas. These lessons are meaningful even today.
If you love reading spiritual or mythological books, or are interested in Mahabharata and Bhagavad Gita, you should definitely read this one!
Undefeatable Krishna isn’t just a mythological book, but it brings forward Lord Krishna’s timeless strategies and philosophies as we reimagine Krishna not only as a divine charioteer but also as an eternal friend and guide.
The first part dives into Krishna’s pivotal role throughout the Mahabharata, showing us his ways of resolving problems and destinies. The second is what sets apart the book, where the author parallels Krishna’s teachings in the Bhagavad Gita and the everyday challenges faced in contemporary life, be it uncertainty, overwhelming stress, moral dilemmas, or inner conflict.
Reading this book felt like getting that reassurance and direction while searching for clarity and peace amidst chaos. The prose is refreshingly free of heavy philosophy and instead uses engaging case studies and heartfelt anecdotes, making it never feel like a lesson handed down. It’s a conversation, a hand on the shoulder, a smile in moments of hesitation.

I picked this up expecting a mythological retelling, but it turned out to be more of a life-guide through Krishna’s wisdom and that was a pleasant surprise. Shubha Vilas brings out Krishna not just as the playful god we know from stories, but as a sharp strategist whose choices shaped the Mahabharata.
What I enjoyed most is how the book connects those ancient decisions to the dilemmas we face today. The writing is simple and the lessons are short, so you don’t feel like you’re being lectured at. Instead, it feels like someone is gently showing you another way to look at problems whether it’s stress, conflict, or just everyday decision-making.
This is the kind of book you don’t have to rush through. You can pick a chapter, reflect on it, and come back later. If you’re looking for mythology with a modern twist that actually leaves you with practical takeaways, this is a solid read.
This book was recommended as an antidote to confusion and chaos. Shubha Vilas writes with clarity and reverence, but also with enough storytelling ease that it never feels heavy-handed. I liked how the book doesn’t just retell familiar tales—it adds thoughtful reflections, making Krishna feel both mythical and deeply human.
The strength of this book lies in its accessibility: short chapters, crisp narratives, and insightful commentary that connect ancient wisdom with modern-day relevance. My only pause (and the reason this is a 4-star and not 5) is that, being the first in a series, it feels like a teaser—I wanted more depth in places where the narrative just skimmed the surface.
Still, as a starting point for anyone wanting to rediscover Krishna’s role in the Mahabharata with fresh eyes, this is an engaging and purposeful read.
