I'm just your typical modern American woman. I work hard and I know how to handle myself in the boardroom and the bedroom. My promotion kinda sucks and kinda doesn't; so yeah, it's in London which is pretty grey and all, but it's my chance to expand our company so I take it.
And then he shows up. Andrew Walker-Wilkinson, all old-world charm and with a stubborn insistence on opening doors for me. He's a dinosaur but he's hot. When he tells me to do something, my body wants to do it - even if my brain tells me to run.
I figure he might be good for a bit of fun. A couple of dates, nothing heavy.
I thought he was one of the few good guys and I was fast losing my heart to him. I didn't expect to end up in danger, snatched right out of my apartment and held in a country house - and when the perpetrators are the most powerful men in the City, not even the police can help…
My involvement with him got me into this mess, so I don't think he's going to be the one to save me.
Not unless I can convince him that he IS one of the good guys…
This is a steamy romance novella. It's the first part of a trilogy and ends on a cliffhanger - only buy this if you want to be hooked and begging for more!
After reading the blurb, I was sure that this serial novella would have me hooked. Unfortunately, it missed the mark. The storyline had potential, but fell flat.
There were a few grammatical errors, but nothing that I couldn't have overlooked if the story had been better. The biggest problem, for me, was the lack of character development. Aside from that, the two main characters, Jasmine and Andrew, didn't appeal to me at all. They just weren't likable.
Jasmine, "Jas", comes across as overly aggressive and crass. I'm all for a strong-minded, independent leading female, but she takes "feminism" to a whole new level. Since when is having a door opened for you an affront? Instead of capturing the strength of an independent woman, the author only succeeded in making her seem rude and argumentative.
Andrew, on the other hand, just comes off as a jerk. He is arrogant and aloof. His demeanor is quite patronizing and other than a sexual attraction to Jasmine, I don't think he even likes her.
What I was left with was two characters, that I didn't really like or connect with. As a result, I didn't ever feel invested in the story and it didn't elicit any type of emotional response from me. Even big events that should have had me on the edge of my seat, like the kidnapping of Jasmine, felt just kind of like "meh, who cares".
Reading this was kind of like watching bad porn without the hot sex. There isn't any connection to the characters or story and the sex scenes are luke warm. You really have to have one or the other to hold your attention, but this book didn't deliver on either account. It did start to improve slightly toward the end, but not enough to make me want to run out and pick up the next book.
Why are all doms depicted to be complete, bloody arseholes? Any dominant who starts to play another human being without even having the nicety to
a) ask first, and b) be sure that they are a submissive, and c) get full, enthusiastic consent
should be strung up by their balls. Or have a sexual harassment suit slapped on them.
How anyone can think that this is even remotely sexy is beyond me.
As to the "lady" in question, she comes over as the uncouth, very vulgar stereotypical American. As I have American friends who're cultured and not at all pottymouthed and vulgar this is another idiocy the author thinks is cute. Not.
Firstly, why did i wait so long to read this book! This was a beautifully written book that had me captured right from page 1! There's a strong independent woman and a strong independent male who are wonderfully written characters in this book. I dont review and post spoilers at all because I think that defeats the purpose of a review. That being said, this book had me laughing, and I was excited as well and there is some suspense in it too. Great job on the ending by the way, cleverly written and I can not wait to sink my hands into the next book! 5 stars for the talented author Harper Cole with her book Finding The Limits. I found a new author for me to follow. Keep it up :)
I don't see why it has all these low reviews. I personally enjoyed it. I wouldn't put it on my top 10 list but it won't be on my list of horrible books either. Believe me I've read worst
