Unwanteds series

This series is fantastic. Imagine this, I read all seven books in a row. It's a relatively long series. I do tend to get bored after the first few books, or the quality drops and I give up. This series is worth reading all the way through. Loved it!

Lisa McMann is very creative and writes across middle grade and young adult. I also enjoyed the Wake trilogy. She just released another series that picks up where the Unwanteds series ends. The name of the new series is The Unwanteds Quests. Maybe the new series will answer the unanswered questions from this series...

I however, will not start the new series. Not because I didn't enjoy it, but because I have a lot of reading to do for school and I cannot allow myself to get caught up in another long series. Not to mention, book 1 just came out. So, there may be a bit of wait for the next one and I'm not good at waiting. I like to have the next book available to read right away if possible.

I still can't fathom that this amazing series is over. I've spent about two years of my life with these incredible characters going on adventures I could never dream of before, and I'm so grateful for the crazy ride Mcmann created.
However, this particular book wasn't exactly my favorite out of the seven due to most of the plot being the final battle. As one who gets distracted and can't completely imagine combat scenes, I wasn't overjoyed that the fighting went on for several pages.
Still, I found "Island of Dragons" to be very enjoyable. The character development in this series was definitely my favorite thing to see, along with all the relationships that were formed.
All in all, "Island of Dragons" was a great conclusion to the Unwanteds and I look forward to what the island of Artime has in store for them in the spinoff series.

I am very sad that this series has ended. I loved all the characters, all the statues and just basically everything. I wished that there was more Sky and Alex scenes. I'm also hoping that Lisa McMann will write another series in the world of artime. The battle scenes were okay. They weren't written the best but I still found myself able to read them without boredom which is an achievement compared to the first and second books in this series. Also I know the plot isn't focused on the romance and its more of a book for younger people but Lisa McMann could have added a little more details into the little scenes between Sky and Alex. I honestly don't like the fact that OUR world is added into this fantasy world. I can see why Lisa added that part but I would have enjoyed it the same if she didn't add it. Because it left me with unanswered questions once I finished the book.

If Lisa McMann does write another series I'm assuming that the series will be about Alex and Arron's twin sisters. Hopefully that doesn't spoil this series for me. Anyways the series was a quick read for me and I blew past them in about less then two weeks. Im gonna miss it.

I can't believe this series is over... The Unwanteds have been my favorite for many years, so I'm understandably melancholy at seeing the end of it. The characters in these books were developed so thoroughly, and so eclectic and creative that you just can't help getting sucked in to this wild fantasy world filled with incredible creatures and colorful characters. I hope that everyone gets a chance to read this series.

This book, in my opinion, was the best book in the series. In this book there was the biggest plot twist in the world! Aaron, Alex's evil twin brother, turns good. This made me drop my book literally. The author must have been planning on doing this for a very long time. Other than that this book shows battle against good and evil that test the strength of wartime in the final book, I won't give away too much, but this book was definatly the best one. I highly recommend this book to you and all others who like Harry Potter.

Island of Dragons by Lisa McMann is an excellent fantasy novel that will leave you on the edge of your seat, and reading until you're done. When twins Alex and Aaron Stowe are forced to save both Quill and Artimé from the worst enemies they have ever faced, their courage is put to the test as they attempt to save their island, and have peace once and for all. But with Artimé being outnumbered by 4:1, their chances of winning are becoming slimmer by the second. Just as Alex prepares to surrender, unexpected visitors arrive to save the day. The battle rages on, but even with the new help, the enemy has two to three times the amount of people. When it seems like the battle will never end, the Ruler of the Sea pays Alex a visit, finishing off the battle once and for all.

While reading this book, I felt as if I was right there in the world of Artimé, battling alongside Alex, Aaron, and their many friends as they attempted to lead Artimé to victory. Each individual character had their own personality and characteristics, and I felt as if I were in each of their shoes, as their many problems and doubts revealed themselves throughout the course of the book. Lisa McMann did an excellent job of making the characters believable and putting you right in her story.

I have read the entire Unwanteds series back to front, and I have to say, I fell in love with them. It felt like I had discovered an entirely new world, all to myself, and I couldn't put a single book down. I finished a book a day, and I just kept on going. But when I reached the final book of the series, Island of Dragons my interest dropped a bit, and I felt myself able to put the book down far easier than the others. I wasn't too fond of the fact that practically the entire book was a single war, because personally, that slightly bored me.

Nevertheless, I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a wonderful fantasy novel, and has read the previous books in the Unwanted series. Anyone who enjoys fantasy books that include plenty of action and adventure will be sure to love Island of Dragons.

And...it's over.

I've been reading this series ever since the very first book came out back in 2011, and now the series has come to a close. While I don't enjoy it quite as much as I did when I was younger, I've still grown very attached to the characters and this magical world from the seven books I've read set in this realm.

My one major complaint about this book is how disjointed it all felt. The first half of the book involves a lot of running around literally all over the world trying to tie up plot lines, and it all felt a bit too sloppy and rushed, while still being slow paced at the same time. Does that make any sense? XD As well, the "final battle" that happens in here literally takes up almost half the book. I'm not even kidding, the fight was from page 300 to like page 500. It was kind of ridiculous and I got a bit sick of it after a while and I feel it could have been condensed quite a bit, but it was still rather enjoyable.

Overall, I'm extremely excited for this author's next series that is set in this world, and I will eagerly anticipate it's release.

An enemy greater than anything Artimé and Quill have faced looms on the horizons, and it will take everything Alex, Aaron and their allies have learned to protect the island - but in a battle so grand, the price of peace may just be too much to pay. McMann brings her brilliant fantasy to a satisfying close, overflowing with heart, humour and action that will keep fans cheering until the last page. Can the Stowe twins finally strive for a singular answer, or are the cracks of their peoples' clashing ideals too large?

That feeling when you finish a series and just don't know what to do with your life? I'm there.

This entire series is fantastic and my absolute only complaint about this book is that the final battle is literally about 40% of the book. But at the same time, I'm okay with that because know what's going on all over. I'm so thrilled with Aaron's growth and actions!

RIP Alex's arm, RIP Mr. Appleblossom, RIP pirate Capitan, and RIP Queen Eagala and her birds, also RIP all who died in this battle. The pirate that fell in love with the hibagon had a major dum dum moment. The little Stowe twins rule Afterall, they had major parts in this battle. Best book of them all. Karkinoans rule. Ole Tater had some fun. Many secret weapons for the Artimeans. Best read last in the series.

What a captivating series! I enjoy reading when I can picture it as I read as though I’m there with the characters. These characters have reminded me that there is much more to life. We have our families whether blood or not and friends who are always there for us no matter what and that it’s all a blessing. I’m looking forward to the next adventure in the Quest series.

This was a well done conclusion to the Unwanted series. The story starts with Henry having to go off and save the giant crab from falling over the waterfall discovered in the previous book. After that the rest of the story is pretty much a huge battle between Artime’ and the evil Queen from Warbler island.

All of our favorite characters come together in this final epic battle and when things seem hopeless help comes from an unexpected place.

I loved the sea dragon and her secret, I also really continued to enjoy Spike as a character. It was nice to see Aaron and Alex working together and finding their places in the world. There was a lot of character growth in this last book.

We also get some development around Alex and Aaron’s sisters, which can do some seriously crazy magical stuff. These sisters will be the feature characters in the sister series to this one: The Unwanteds Quests.

Overall a very well done conclusion to this series. Lots of awesome characters, tons of action, some great character development, and a great wrap up to the series. Fans of the series will definitely enjoy this wrap-up. I recommend the whole series to middle grade and older readers who love magic and adventure.

Unwanted the Island of Dragons, is a book about how Alex - the new former mage of Artime - is dealing with the soon upcoming attack from the pirates of the Island of Silence. Having already enough trouble with trying to control Artime and its people. He now has to protect it from big and experienced pirates, that has now been training for six or so months. Also it seems that they some way of resisting there only way of defense, magic. With a couple of his top spell casters gone in a dangerous mission they may not come back from, will he be to protect Artime from the attack they soon will face?

The Unwanted's Island of Fire, is unfortunately is the last book of the series (but there is a sequel).
It's a long read with 521 long pages of action and suspense. This book was an amazing book, it almost made me cry, because I loved the series so much, but I didn't because I read the back, and it said there was a sequel.

I couldn't finish this book. I loved all the action at the beginning of the series, but Lisa McMann is just starting to repeat the same thing, over and over again. The battles and worlds are just getting boring, and I feel like the main character is getting very self-centered. I just wish they'd try and focus on getting Karina home, throughout the book! That would make the story SO MUCH more interesting. And did I ever mention that if she just left out the romance, this book would be a lot better? It's not that I don't like romance... but Alex is obsessing over Sky for the majority of the story, and it gets so annoying. So, if you really have to, fine, go ahead and read this book, but I would recommend reading the rest of the series, then deciding whether you really need to spend time on this.

This is how you wrap up a series!! The conclusion to the Unwanteds was absolutely amazing and spectacular! The story lines and character development were at it's best and it made me so happy and also sad that it took 7 books to get here. Nevertheless the story of the Unwanteds wrapped up beautifully and I am very happy with this series. All in all this entire series gets a 4 star rating from me because of the predictability, the lack of character growth, and the somewhat repetitive story. If any one is looking for a fun, enjoyable, magical read then I recommend the Unwanteds by Lisa McMann! Last but not least I am looking forward to seeing how the story grows in the new series The Unwanteds Quests!!!!

The majority of this book is one long battle, and it's tedious. Action sequences of the like worked in the previous books as a climax, but they aren't the series' strong suit due to the magic versus non-magic nature of them (which renders the conflict ridiculous at times). Additionally, it employs a deus ex machina-flavored trope I strongly dislike (think: Grogu).

As a series conclusion, it doesn't suffer from a rushed plot or a severe lack of closure, so I can give it that. When I read it for the first time, I wondered why they didn't make as it seemed like the logical choice but I can see why that decision was made; it was a good message for a middle-grade novel.

THIS BOOK IS UNBELIEVABLE I AM LOST FOR WORDS!!!
A REMARKABLE EMOTIONAL POWERFUL EPIC MAGICAL JOURNEY I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S DONE!!!
more than 50% is about the raging heart wrenching BATTLE!!
Alex, Aaron friends, Quill, Warbler, Artimeans, statues and creatures face their biggest challenge in history!! they must give everything they have to prevail or die trying
The previous book left off after an other dangerous battle wherein they defeated Gondoleery. Aaron's Spell killed her at last. Artime (airtime and Quil ground) is on fire and in ruins. everyone works on rebuilding and caring for their injures.
Lani and Kaylee discover on the map of the islands that the island of Quill lies in the Dragon's Triangle aka the Bermuda triangle. All shipwrecks and airplane crashes disappear their and land in the hurricane which moves them to the islands of shipwrecks.
The next voyage lies ahead. Alex sails to the Island of dragons to help Pan the ruler of the sea with wings. they are apparently for her dragons children. they need to be able to flee the pirates who hunt and sell the sea creatures. they have an alliance with Queen Eagala of Warbler. Alex and friends create the most beautiful wings for the five dragons.
other part, They receive news that the crab (island of legends) is dying. Henry and Florence on spike and Pan embark on the journey to save him with Henry's magic seaweed. they manage to do so.
The start of the most dangerous exhausting wrecking battle begins!! Alex gives the most power and hopeful speech a leader can make!!
the pirates ships lies in the sea and fire fireballs. The Artimeas try their best to extinguish the fireballs, flames and such with buckets of water which exhausts them tremendously. it's exactly what the pirates meant to do. Eventually the pirates reach shore and it's a complete massacre!! I was screaming the whole time OMG
Secretly, Alex made a plan to make Aaron head mage of Artime if/when Alex dies in the battle. EMOTIONAL SCENE!! The brothers came a longggg way, they trust eacn other with their life
Queen Eagala demands the Warbler children and prisoners back, the Artimeans to surrender them as slaves and dead to Alex. During the massacre Alex multiple times thinks it's the only option, but Simber and Florence convince him. All seems lost TWICE!!
Alex's friends their teams try everything and fight with all they have to drive the pirates back and not to get killed for the pirates have shields against the magical components. the Artimeans must fight with swords which seems quite hopeless. Sky, Lani, Kaylee, Samheed, Aaron, Gunner, Liam, Sean, Carina, Clair and their teams come to each others aid to defeat the pirates. It's merciless. Aaron brings Panther, Rock, Scorpion out of the jungle to fight. Panther kills MANY, Alex brings the elephant and transport him to on the pirate ships. Rock acts as shelter for the warbler children. Then the captain goes on shore surrounded with slaves of pirate and warbler island. The Warbler children of Artime hide in the rock. Then Copper (sky, crow's mother) spot Daxel who helped them excape Pirate Island. he signals to the slaves and take ribbons and tie them around their necks. THEY REBEL AND STAND WITH ARTIME TO SAVE THEIR CHILDREN!!! the number of Artimea fighters increase and they defeat a lot of pirates, but for one down 10 come up. again their chances seems SMALL, UNTIL Spike comes back with Henry who brought friends, ALL THE CREATURES FROM THE ISLAND OF LEGENDS COME TO THEIR AID!! Artimeans stand a real chance again. The battle continues without merci. the pirates go down!! But the freaking eel is back!! AND when most are in the mansion to bring the injured, The Queen plays her secret weapon. THE BIRDS!! they attack the mansion where all the injured are!! It's MADNESS!! until Fifer picks the bird and screams her longs out, all of a sudden the birds evaporate in smoke!!
The captain abducts Crow and the twins, OMG CAN'T, BACK OFF CREEP, Alex is forced to surrender or else he they will all die!! THISBEE SCREAMS BOOM AND THE CAPTAIN EXPLODES WTF!!
they pirates are FURIOUS and fight like MADNESS!! HOW CAN THE ARTIMEANS POSSIBLY SURVIVE THIS!!
At last PAN and the five DRAGONS ARRIVE!!! "aid of the greatest nuture"
THE PIRATES DON'T STAND A CHANCE!! Pan teaches her children to kill the people who are more evil than good. One by one the they all defeat the pirates!!
The battle had ME EXHAUSTED OMG THE ACTION WAS UNREAL, I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY ALL DID THAT!!
but... victory is bitter with sooo many losses...
One moment Alex is abducted by the first mate of the captain. Queen Eagala holds a sword against his throat and threatens to kill him if he doesn't surrender the prisoners, slaves and himself. Spike and Issie (nessie) shake the ship so Alex slams with all his might against the Queen who slashes his arm. the ship begins to whisper which means that it is going to sail back WITH EAGALA. it sails back to Pirate Island and they disappear
Alex's arm and hand is unable to move but he ignores it, he wraps his arms around Sky and tells her he loves her and she loves him back!! then he collapse. Apparently Alex's arm and hand is incurable. devastated he asked Aaron to be the head mage for he can't cast spells anymore. he declines for Alex is the true leader EMOTIONAL POWERFUL SCENE!!
Aaron's wish is to be with Ishi and the scientist to go home and later to embark on a new adventure with them and Kaylee who joins the, again EMOTIONAL SCENE!!!
Finally Artimea is free and can work to live in peace with the most powerful, wonderful, magical head mage Alex!!!
The twins power and Pan's secret remains a mystery (for now )
I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS THE LAST BOOK, IT WAS A ABSOLUTELY AMAZING EPIC RIDE

Island of Dragons by Lisa Mcmann, the final book in the Unwanteds series. Quite possibly the best book in the entire series. It will leave you on the edge of your seat from the beginning of the book, to the end of the book. The book throws you through a hurricane of emotions, making you laugh at some points and cry at others. At the very end, it is the saddest point, because the book was so good that you want more! If I had to recommend a fantasy novel to anyone, this series would be it. That is why I’m giving it five-stars. And I truly believe that it deserves it.

It is sad when a wonderfully adventure series as The Unwanteds draws to a conclusion!
A brilliant designed cover with a story that did not disappoint!
It is packed full of conflicts both on a personal and physical level. Much loved characters are tested time and again.
I do not like to give away much from a book I've read, so suffice it to say that I am now looking forward to the The Quest of the Stowe sisters!

Sad to see it end but I know that in a way it's just starting. Granted, that might have been the longest battle scene ever... I wish I was joking but I'm not. For me, that could have been different but I understand that it was a major culmination in this series. The humor was much more frequent, which helped balance that all out. I'm thankful there were answers given in regards to locations and other stuff of that nature. I plan on reading the continuation.

*may contain spoilers but mostly fine*:)

“The people of Artime would to ever follow me,” he said softly. “Nor should they. Being the head mage, the leader of a place like this—it’s an all encompassing job that takes way more than just some dumb luck with magic like I’ve had in order to succeed. It takes the kind of person who can lead people unselfishly, with goodness and love and the best intentions for them. The kind of person who cares deeply about them, no matter if he’s in the depths of personal misery, or at the height of personal harmony or peace. And that person is you, Alex.” — Aaron Stowe

This book was a nice wrap up to the series. I did feel like the final battle was kind of lacking tho because the threat didn’t feel it had been building for a series finally battle, it was kinda just meh. I mean yes, they were fighting an evil queen and a bunch of pirates, but I feel like the battle in book 6 felt way more high stakes. And I feel like a more major character should have been killed off, but that’s just me I guess lol.

I also felt disconnected I guess from the characters just because of how the book was written, in third person but switching between povs like every paragraph or two. I don’t mind if a book switches povs every couple chapters, but this was just kind of annoying.

Anyways, I love the overall concept of this series and the creativity in it. I also loved seeing Alex and Aaron’s relationship grow from being mortal enemies to loving brothers, as well as their friendships with all the other characters in the book. The series tied up well with this book and had a happy ending which I always love.

Wow. Really, just wow. I loved this book, and I loved this series.

This one was really different from the others because practically the whole time you were just waiting for the big battle. You knew it was coming lol. And, tbh, I wasn’t surprised by any of it. I knew where the Artimeans would find help, but that didn’t make it any less exciting. Yes, there were some slight problems (like why didn’t they unleash the jungle animals earlier? Or Ol’ Tater?) but I get it, it made the book more exciting. Some people could easily be annoyed by this but I’ll let it go and vibe with it.

It cleaned everything up really well. The addition of Kaylee and the realization of America was kinda cool, but basically just a way to get rid of Aaron in the end to make it really sad. I don’t hate it, but it could’ve been done better. Finally achieving peace was the best ending the author could’ve thought of for everyone else. I’m really glad she didn’t kill off Sky, Lani, or Samheed, bc I would’ve been very upset lol. This is a really solid ending and truly leaves nothing to be desired.

Overall, really solid series. It got a little tedious at times, but I would definitely recommend. It is a very, very good coming of age story. Sure, some of the lessons are on the nose, but who cares?? I love that this was a fun, wholesome series with a good message. Shout-out to Caroline for letting me borrow her copies 😆 Wanted or Unwanted, creative or not, whoever we are, we’re all loved by God— and whats a better truth than that?

I sobbed the last 100 pages. I am a whirling ball of emotions that have no hopes of being reined in. My heart has swelled with joy and sorrow. My eyes are puffy and I have a headache coming on. I can't even properly express how I feel right now.

The last book of the Unwanteds was action-packed, heart-wrenching, jaw-droppingly amazing. This is my favorite kind of book that evokes such intense feelings from me, it really makes me feel as if I'm right there along with the characters. The Island of Dragons really pushed Alex, the head mage of Artime, and his people to their limits. They nearly lost hope several times but the friends and allies they had made along their adventures over the years pulled through at the last moment and lead them closer to victory. The people of Artime never lost hope in their leader, not even once, not after they all had been through together and all that Alex had sacrificed for them. The people of Artime and Quill are finally at peace at last. Nonetheless, they all suffered their losses, many were lost along the way and many more will carry the physical and mental scars for the rest of their lives.

There is so much more I want to say but I can't because it would give away too many spoilers (I recommend that you read these books) and I am still way too overcome with emotion to process any more thoughts. "I am with you, Alex!

P.S. Looking back at the first couple of books, I could never have imagined any of this happening. I mean a few things were given (like Alex being head mage and full of badass-ery) but for the most part not a chance.

I am completely sad that this is the last in this series. I have loved the series (as have my children 10, 7 &3). We've listened to all of them and adore these characters. Alex has grown to be a strong leader. Aaron has changed so drastically. All their friends are wonderful and stand by the boys in their problems.

The fighting is epic. It was wonderful and so tragic. The battle strategy. All their friends. Ahhh! The way the author ended the book made me sad and hopeful for the characters' futures. This is a wonderful book for the ending and sets it up perfect for the spin off series for the girls (Alex and Aaron's twin sisters). I will miss these characters but hopefully will get glimpses of them in the future books.

5/5. We will continue with the girls' books, but will miss having these main characters front and center.
