“It’s only been a week since I found out I’m a witch and already I've almost committed murder, completely alienated my now ex-boyfriend, and single-handedly exposed the coven to a pack of murderous werewolves. It has not been a good week.”
After a disastrous road trip to Ashwood Creek, Emerson has discovered a large pack of werewolves — witches oldest enemy. And worse yet, they've discovered her. With the Silver Lake Pack poised to strike, Emerson’s training is now more important than ever.
While Caiden and the rest of the coven prepare for battle, a mysterious new student shows up in town and sets his sights on Emerson. With the pack closing in, tensions within the coven heat up. Meanwhile, Emerson continues to hunt for the truth about her mother’s suicide, despite the danger surrounding her. But some truths are better left buried…
Deceitful Circle is the second book in this young adult urban fantasy series. Don’t miss the beginning, Silent Circle.
The main reason for this, I think, is that the characters are not only believable, but relatable. The main character, Emerson, is both flawed and completely believable as a teenage character. I also loved the expanded cast who were introduced (or elaborated on) in this second book. Em's cast of friends are all fully-formed characters and equally believable.
I loved the world-building in this book. It does a great job of expanding on the foundation laid in the first book and I love how much detail has gone into the witchcraft and the history.
In terms of the plot, there were some twists I saw coming from the first couple of chapters of the first book, but I was pleasantly surprised by others, so it was a good mix.
This book was an easy and enjoyable read and I am definitely excited to see where this series goes from here.
and the plot thickens. emerson wants answers about her mom and her mysterious death. emerson convinces caiden to go with her to her moms hometown to find out answers and ends up breaking into her grandmothers house only to be attacked by werewolves....who happen to be witches worst enemy. just great...now they know about emerson and they will come for her. all of a sudden a new student shows up, Gray and he has his sights set on Em. she knows smtg is off about him but cant put her finger on it. caiden thinks they need to ask caroline for help. caroline suggest a blood bond, which will help get rid of their enemy and help Em with her powers. add to the drama, her father is attacked in their home and sent to hospital and with carolines help, Em finds out the werewolves attacked her father...now Em is hell bent on revenge and agrees to the blood bond. truths and secrets are revealed and those who Em thought she could trust arent as honest as they seem to be. Will it cost Emerson??
Just like her last book, I absolutely loved the Deceitful Circle cover! Surprisingly though, I think I might actually like this cover more than the last one! *Gasp*
I've noticed that sometimes sequels don't follow through as nicely as one would hope, but that was definitely not the case with Cassandra's second book! It moved very quickly and didn't give you time to wonder or try to remember what happened in the last book. Normally I hate when sequels give a little "What happened previously on..." flashback, but readers get just the right amount in the first chapter.
I also have to take a moment to mention the hook in chapter one. It was kind of amazing! Cassandra definitely has a way with words and she keeps the reader wanting more. Even though I planned on spacing the chapters out a little bit, I was thinking four to six a night, my readings did not go as planned. In fact, I finished the book in three sittings! The first night I actually read 10 chapters!
The only thing that slowed me down, was the time that I took to make notes in my phone. However, it wasn't due to questions or plot holes. Instead it was due to the simplest mistakes that I know all writers make. Little did I know, that I actually got an outdated copy. So lucky for all of you, the newest version is void of all of those little problems!
As I mentioned in my last review, I loved the characters in the book. I got to know each of them better in the second novel and I began to care for each and every one of them. Well, almost all of them. There's still a couple that I don't like, but that's neither here nor there.
It's also important to note that there are A LOT of plot twists! There was one that I saw coming, but honestly I think it's just because I'm a writer, so I constantly try to predict what's going to happen. However, I've got to say that Cassandra definitely stumped me on a couple of the twists and turns in the book. There were a few things that I definitely did not see coming!
Overall, I would 100% recommend this book! The only disappointing part is knowing that I'm going to have to wait to finish reading the series. So should you go pick up your copy right now? Yes! What are you waiting for?
I absolutely loved this book! Definitely worth every bit of the 5 stars! The author clearly worked extra hard in making this novel a masterpiece. The first book in this series was good but this once blasts the first, out of the water because it is just remarkable. I loved how each of the scenes are mysterious, how the romance unfolds and the secrets are suspenseful! I am just counting the days until the next book come out and hope it is just as perfect as this one! The author surely has the gift of great creativity and imagination! Keep up the great work Cassandra!
I enjoyed this book as much as the first and was gripped from page one. Emmerson searches for information for her mother in this book and gets into lots of trouble for it. There's a great twist at the end and I was happy to see werewolves introduced to the tale now too. A great book which will appeal to a broad variety of readers!
