Marcus is one of the most likable, engagingly brilliant characters ever. . .
One cannot help but be amused at his irrepressible need to counter the almost constant barrage of trouble and challenges, and cheer at every subsequent victory. I'm looking forward to discovering who or what he faces, tackles, and thwarts next in the upcoming book installments, all performed with unmatched skill, extraordinary tactical sense, and devastating flair.
Five stars seems rather inadequate -- this book was very well written, with far fewer errors than past publications and the usual amazing character and world crafting as well as wonderfully graphic action scenes. I particularly enjoyed the interactions and relationships Marcus has with his familiars. Well done!
Very good story. This book dragged a bit, or the transition plot.
The overall story just progressed with this book in the series. The main character and it's supporting cast round it out and the book was really transitional and just moving the plot along. However if you're read this far into the series, we either like the main character or not. for me I've enjoyed the what's going to happen next plot line even though overall you have a vague idea where the story is heading. They were just enough fights to keep you interested but they could have been more, there wasn't as much suspense as this book was really more about the sub characters. Looking forward to book 5 just to keep the sun going!
Shallow, very lacking in depth, curtailed where everything is given short shrift. It just feels one dimensional.. a hollow façade only one exterior side painted and done up,.. but its like lipstick on a boar not even a sow. Four books in and the setting is still vague beyond belief.
This is very sad because it really has promise otherwise. Maybe if the author had taken his time here to flesh out the world and avoided skipping so much where its all just fade to black and done. That would have probably made for a satisfying 14hour book. Instead there is none of that and the story is even shallower than the previous 3 books in the series.
Unfortunately, i found the book mostly boring as it had too much filler for my taste. The world building is still rudimentary which makes the world tiny and bland. In my opinion there should have been more duels and emphasis on the sabotage missions. The hotel scene was nice but very rudimentary. I would be more interested in the misadventures of Beaky and Cat than all those two dimensional side characters despicted in the book.
Criticism and comments
The title Boss is a terrible upgrade for a prince/ss.
I received a review copy of this book. The Last Paladin book 4 starts out a bit confusing, but after a few chapters, it settles down, and becomes the seriously good read I was expecting. Not sure what's going on with the start of the book, but honestly, if that's the worst to worry about, then the story can't be that bad. :) I liked this story, and am looking forward to the next one.
This series is fantastic. But...2 negative comments. 1) putting the first three in the library only to start charging $9 for each one afterwards... Not cool. 2) the first comment is compounded by the fact that each book is so thin. If you feel like you have to bait people in and charge double the price of most other books in this genre, at least make the page count worth it. Yeah, it doesn't really matter since I'll be buying the rest anyway, it's still not cool.
Feel like a soap opera, minor characters in earlier books are suddenly very important people. The flow of the book feel erratic, jumping after the fact how he knew everything that's hidden around him, doesnt make a lot of sense
These books are all really good. I’ll say that first. But, the price is steep for a 300+ page book. Make it a bigger book or drop the price please, bc I really like them but as much as I read I cannot justify to my wife the price/page ratio lol
This series is cleverly done with secrets shared in increments along the way while more are teased at following the revelations. The main character has a confidence backed up by accomplishments and a personality that is charming.
A little bit of politics and more solidification of the ’core’ group. I almost expected a lazy death in the final battle; for “dramatic license”, but Savarovsky opted for a cleaner approach and added mystique. Bravo!
Best series going. Excellent world building and characters. Charismatic progressive development in each book. World building is top notch. Clever subplots.
