From debut author, Briegh Parker, comes a sweet and steamy friends-to-lovers sapphic novella that is perfect for fans of Haley Cass and Alexandria Bellefleur.
Dakota Spring is devastated.
After seeing her ex’s engagement announcement, Dakota’s all set to throw herself the biggest pity party of the year. So when her best friend, Casey, invites her to her family’s lake house, Dakota jumps on the opportunity to nurse her heartbreak soaking in the summer sun on the water.
While constantly stalking her ex’s social media, Dakota knows she’s not emotionally ready to move on. But after one too many mojitos she realizes the perfect thing she needs to soothe her broken heart—and her aching libido—is a no-strings attached hookup. And who better than the person she’s most comfortable with—Casey, the Queen of Casual?
One night turns into the weekend turns into Dakota questioning if her feelings for Casey really are as casual as she once thought. And is it worth jeopardizing the friendship to explore them?
I was once a novella snob. I liked them, but I could never really connect with them. The more I read them, the more I realized I was wrong. The writing was easy to read and hooked me from page one. I felt both the friendship and the chemistry. It's a short read, but perfectly paced with enough time for the characters to question themselves and jealousy scenes that I devoured like snacks. The single POV choice was perfect. The sex scenes were good. Novellas usually leave me a bit frustrated, but not this one even if I wanted more, for sure. If you are looking for a short and steamy read, it's perfect for this summer. It had some of the same vibes as "On the Same Page," which, coming from me, is a huge compliment. This debut novel is really promising, and I look forward to reading more from Briegh Parker.
I really enjoyed reading Casey and Dakota's story. The writing is strong, and the story moves at a nice pace. It doesn't feel like a short book with only 123 pages. It actually feels like a full novel, which is very impressive for a debut author.
Both main characters were incredibly sweet and easy to love. You can clearly see their development throughout the story. It was heartwarming to watch Dakota grow more confident and Casey realize her own worth.
Overall, if you’re looking for a well crafted friends to lovers romance with lovely characters, you’ll love this one. I can’t wait for the next book!
Thank you so much to Briegh Parker for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was such a sweet and adorable novella. I'm not usually a fan of such short love stories because I always feel like something is missing. But this book was just perfect. An easy read with lots of chemistry and sparks.
It's about two best friends who spend a long weekend together in a house by the lake. Until unexpectedly, sparks fly. The spice was extremely good and, to put it bluntly: hot. The story of Dakota and Casey really touched me. I would have loved for the story to be 100 pages longer. But nevertheless, I really enjoyed this sweet novella and can highly recommend it!
I'm already looking forward to Briegh Parker's next book!
A really enjoyable friends to lovers sapphic novella!
The pacing in this really worked, it spanned a long enough period that made it feel like a realistic storyline but in no way felt rushed despite being under 150 pages. It feels like a complete story with some good character growth for the main character Dakota, and I applaud the author for doing all that with the limited page count.
I mostly liked the writing, but I thought it could use a little work. Some sections were really strong, whereas others felt a bit clunky or just not quite right. I think the author has potential and I did have a good time reading this, but I think the writing is definitely the aspect of the book that could be improved on the most.
The characters are sweet! I really liked how much effort was put into the development of Dakota, whose point of view we are following, and I thought that really made this novella stand out. I really felt like I connected with Dakota and was rooting for her to heal and find happiness, hats off to Briegh Parker for the character work there!
Overall really solid book, I’m looking forward to seeing what else the author will write in the future!
a big thank you to Briegh Parker for providing me with an arc- this review is my honest opinion!
This was recommended to me as a good friend and I’m so glad I listened! I really enjoyed this. It was so much fun and that first spicy scene!!! 🫠 Also, not sure if this was me but this book was like fast paced but a bit of a slow burn at the same time? If that’s possible in such a short book but I wasn’t mad about it! 😂 It actually made me really enjoy the pacing and I didn’t want to put the book down.
Written in first person with a single POV. Friends to Lovers, Forced Proximity, Friends with Benefits Soft Masc/Femme, Femme Top. 2x Spicy Scenes.
3 ⭐️- meh. It was just ok for me. I didn’t really like the set up so it definitely lowered my enjoyment. I am glad they figured out their true feelings and got their HEA.
This was actually just what I needed...A fun, quick, cute, flirty, spicy read!
I've seen this one floating about for a while and it's been sat waiting on my TBR.
It's well written and flows perfectly!.
When Dakota is desperate to get over her ex, who's moved on with her work colleague! She turns to the one person who knows her inside and out.. Best friend Casey.
When Casey calls Dakota to come over to the lake house after chucking her boyfriend out, the pair spend the weekend together enjoying what they do best. Each other company. Dakota spends a lot of it obsessing over her ex Nina, and Casey is having none of it!.
One thing leads to another and the pair decide it might help if Dakota and Casey spend one night together, to help her move on....
Chucked into the mix we have annoying ex BF, jealousy over a F'ck buddy and Dakota dating to try and find someone new to fall in love with, even though she just wants Casey.
I blitzed this one. I am genuinely looking forward to what comes next from @brieghparkerauthor
In fact I've pre-order her next book Yours for the Night 👍🏼
This was a fast and decent read! It started off quick and was super easy to follow from the beginning to the end. I love a friends to lovers, especially when it’s obvious that one of them has always pined for the other. Dakota and Casey were sweet, likable characters that you couldn’t help but root for from start to finish. The author delivered sugar, spice, and everything nice!
There were a lot of moments where I genuinely found myself laughing, like the author trying to insert every name that starts with M, but there were also areas where I had to force myself to keep reading. Granted, I’m not really a fan of quick burns (I understand that they had an established friendship but still) or novellas as I find them to be super fast-paced, so I can understand that my qualms are just my personal preference. I was in between giving it a 3 or 4, but ultimately settled for a 3 because I just wanted a little bit more from Dakota and Casey than I was given.
Overall, this surpassed my expectations for a debut, and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series!!
Yours for the Weekend was quick but very enjoyable. Dakota is going through a difficult period, but she can count on her bff Casey to help her get her mind off her break-up and move on. Even if I knew how it would end, I was still surprised by Casey’s revelation. Their relationship is cute and steamy, just as promised. Dakota’s and Casey’s jealous moments were also entertaining.
Usually, I’m not a big fan of novellas because I often feel like I don’t get enough time to connect with the story and appreciate the characters. Sometimes, the relationship feels rushed, leaving me with the feeling that something is missing. That was not the case for Yours for the Weekend. The pacing and the evolution of Dakota and Casey’s relationship felt right.
The excerpt from Hers for the Night makes me look forward to Briegh Parker’s next release.
I usually only read novellas at the holidays, but I needed a palette cleanser after a 750+ page banger of an emotional book. This was just what I needed. I would have given 5 stars if it’d been dual POV. I could totally relate to Dakota on some things. A longer book with a deeper dive into her religious deconstruction would have been dope. There was a little tad of her going to therapy, but for a novella, I was impressed that that growth was even thrown in there. The spicy scene was excellent. I’m stoked to see more from this author!
Thank you Briegh Parker for the ARC! Release date is 7/22/25
💕Friends to lovers sapphic romance 💕 Lake house setting 💕 Hurt/comfort 💕 Single POV
A sweet and steamy sapphic friends-to-lovers novella that really hit the spot! This debut is both heartfelt and sexy, and I genuinely enjoyed every bit of it.
Dakota is still hung up on her ex, and after seeing her engagement photos on social media, she’s in a terrible mood. To lift her spirits, she heads to her bestie Casey’s family lake house for a weekend getaway. One thing leads to another — they hook up, and feelings get involved. The story is told from Dakota’s POV.
The catch? Casey is the queen of casual, and Dakota is her best friend — which, let’s be real, is a recipe for disaster 🙃
The story is sweet and spicy, with just the right touch of angst to get you in your feels ☺️
At only around 120 pages, this novella still manages to feel as full and satisfying as a longer novel — which is super impressive.
If you’re craving a sapphic friends-to-lovers romance that balances heart and heat, I highly recommend giving this one a try!
This is a perfect novella and if you want something quick, light and a little steamy. This is a great read in between the heavier word count novels. I always appreciate how easy it could be to screw up something short but this had a little bit of every in the right dose with a happy ending.
This was so fun!! friends to lovers, a weekend hookup that turns into maybe something more? spicy and filled with a lot of love and detail, which isn’t common for a novella! This was the perfect summer beach read
I don’t know if this novel is an absolute masterpiece, or if I was just in the exact right mood for this to hit perfectly for me, but either way I can’t say enough nice things about this. I loved this. Amazing. Its also short, so just go read this! Low commitment, and I expect that you will be very happy about it.
This novel gave me the same vibes as “On The Same Page” by Haley Cass, which is also incredible, so if you liked that one, I think you should read this.
Highlights: -The content vs page count is the best I have ever read. This was a complete novel packed into the length of a long novella. -Very witty and fun writing. -This book handled a lot of sensitive topics very well; biphobia, cheating, etc. -Excellent spicy scenes. -The friendship dynamics were soooo good. -Apples!!! -Communication for the win. Well done.
Thank you to the author for providing a free ARC. This honest review was left voluntarily.
Things I Loved: - Sapphic romance - Bisexual FMC/Lesbian FMC - Best friends to lovers - Hurt/Comfort - Small town / Forced proximity - THE SPICE
Spice: 🌶🌶️🌶️🌶️ Burn: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Arc Review: I really loved this book! Both characters were a lot of fun. I love that it showed a different side of hurt after leaving a toxic relationship, and I loved the complete no-judgment, open-arms friendship between our two MCs. They truly cared for each other deeply, and they are so sweet and just honestly adorable. I loved the hurt-comfort aspect. The whole book is in the POV of Dakota, which is fun because there's not a lot of single POV books. I screamed when Casey and Dakota made their agreement and even more so when things took off intimacy-wise. You could just tell this was two characters that really knew each other and respected each other well.
Despite it being a novella, I appreciated that it explored more depth, especially considering this book is only 120 pages; the author did amazing. I loved watching their relationship turn from best friends to lovers, and overall it was just a heartwarming book with quite a lot of spice. Amazing debut novella!
Thank you so much to Briegh Parker for this E-ARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own! 🥰

I really enjoyed this book!!! I am super excited for Your for the Night also! I absolutely love sapphic friends to lovers no think it’s my favorite specific type of trope.
Honestly I like a little toxicity (just a little) in my romance and I loved when Casey was being jealous at the bar hahahah Definitely recommend!
Impressive debut novella from this author. This book had the following tropes :a small town romance, friends to lovers, forced proximity, slow burn, and a few others. It's a cute HEA story guaranteed to leave a smile on your face.
Casey and Dakota will have you rooting for their hookup. Their shared bond makes the seamless transition to lovers.A fast read due to the shortened stature, but by no means is that a bad thing. I will be anxiously awaiting the second book in this universe, and my hope is it is a full sized novel.
this was such a fun little novella i genuinely didn’t want it to end. small town sapphics, best friends who agree to a casual hookup situation, and then accidentally fall headfirst into feelings? yeah. you already know i was hooked. casey is so confident and smooth it’s almost rude. she really said “let me take care of you” and meant it in every way. the way she helped dakota explore what she likes, with all the praise and softness?? so good. i loved how natural their dynamic felt spicy, yes, but also safe and full of trust. casey’s dominant energy was just chef’s kiss and dakota realizing she likes being told she’s such a good girl?? obsessed. also, their chemistry?? unreal. it was hot, don’t get me wrong, but it was also really emotionally charged in the best way. the little moments where you just know they’re falling for each other even though they’re pretending it’s casual?? yeah, that got me. honestly, i wish it had been longer. i could’ve stayed with them for so many more weekends!!!! 😭😭 I LOVED THIS NOVELLA AND EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!!
This was such a cute read! I absolutely adore Casey and Dakota and i love how their relationship developed from friends to lovers. I will ALWAYS love that trope, it gets me every time.
The way Casey was always so willing to do whatever it takes to make Dakota happy was so sweet.
If you’re looking for a quick read for this summer, I highly recommend this one.🤍
This was a cute & spicy quick read! As someone who’s lived their own friends to lovers story (my wife and I) I’m always a fan of this trope! It was also fun, since I am born, raised, and still living in MI — surrounded by lake life! I look forward to reading any future releases by Briegh Parker!
I’m not usually a novella fan as I feel there’s not often enough time to get to know the characters before being expected to long for them to be together but I really enjoyed reading this!
While I initially felt that there friends with benefits set-up came too soon, I quickly felt we got to know the characters better and understood why they acted/thought the way they did.
I couldn’t put it down and devoured it in one sitting!

Fun, flirty, spicy sapphic novella that gives best friends to lovers vibes. Loved the spice in this as a bisexual woman. Can’t wait for the next novella
I love to read sapphic books, it’s my safe place and I never gave 1⭐️but this book was disgusting . This was the author first book and I hope she doesn’t write sapphic books anymore.
In this novel we have a friends to lovers dynamic. Dakota and Casey are best friends for years. When they share a weekend together in Casey’s lake house things change between them.
Dakota is kind of pitiful. It’s been a whole year since her breakup, and she’s still lurking on her ex’s stories and feeling sorry for herself. That constant self-victimization is boring. I like emotional characters but I prefer them NOT pathetic.
She’s presented as the butch one, yet the moment she’s with her best friend Casey she turns into a passive pillow princess. Sure, good for her for finally getting some joy between the sheets, but we don’t get to read a sex scene the other way around and that feels kind of unfulfilling. Honestly, her being a little more on top would have made the dynamic so much hotter.
Casey, though? Loved her. Exactly the type of girl I’d catch a crush on.
I liked the book, it was short and predictable but sweet and with some good tension that some points and I can’t dislike a “friends to lovers” story.
