Lisette Darling, assistant to the top “fixer” at Olympus Studios, is thrilled to leave Hollywood behind for a whirlwind trip to New York for a special assignment.
But the cross-country flight aboard a transcontinental airliner takes a deadly turn when the glamorous, reclusive woman in the first row is found dead after the second leg of the 15-hour journey.
With the plane grounded, tensions soar among the nine remaining passengers on board. Everyone has secrets—including Lisette’s boyishly charming escort, Private Detective Byron Linley, who is rather covert about his reasons for joining her.
As the investigation unfolds, the victim’s true identity—and the real reason she was traveling—begins to surface. One by one, the passengers’ facades also begin to crumble, until no one, not even Lisette, is above suspicion.
Then, a second murder takes place.
Trapped with a killer and racing against time, can Lisette and Byron uncover the truth before one of them is next?
Murder Takes Flight is the fifth book in the Lisette Darling Golden Age Mysteries, set in the 1930s. Experience the early era of modern flight with a mix of wit, intrigue, and twisty suspense.
Colette Clark lives in New York and has always enjoyed learning more about the history of her amazing city. She decided to combine that curiosity and love of learning with her addiction to reading and watching mysteries. Her first series, Penelope Banks Murder Mysteries is the result of those passions. When she’s not writing she can be found doing Sudoku puzzles, drawing, eating tacos, visiting museums dedicated to unusual/weird/wacky things, and, of course, reading mysteries by other great authors.
OK - so whodunnits are not really my thing, but this was cheap in a charity shop so I thought I'd give it a go. True to form I was unable to work out the murderer. As is the way with these things the plot was hideously complicated and every person in it had a secret that they were hiding. So it was impossible which person hiding a secret was hiding the secret that they were the killer - as opposed to them having fiddled petty cash at work or cheating on the husband [or whatever]. That said, this is a well written little book with some great characters. The setting is very credible and [so far as i could tell] well researched. Even though I did not really understand the plot I enjoyed the characters and the period background. A good holiday read.
Colette Clark never disappoints! It too me a minute to circle back to the new release from my favorite series, but I finally did. Murder Takes Flight is magnificent!
I love the quintessential 1930’s aspect of the Lisette Darling series. From the styles, to the depiction of flying, to the difference in catchphrases, everything in this book screams quintessential historical cozy mystery!
One of the many reasons I love Colette Clark’s books is because they are so incredibly well written, it feels like you are stepping into the story when you read it. Murder Takes Flight is prime example of Clark’s niche for this style of writing.
If you are looking for a cozy mystery that you can escape into, then this is for you! Follow Lisette on her trip to New York and experience air travel in 1936! Everything about this book is incredibly entertaining!
I highly recommend Murder Takes Flight, and the entire Lisette Darling series!
