I really liked this book. When I first saw the title I didn't even think it would apply to me. As a complete novice I am trying my hardest to get my rock in the general vicinity of where its needed, not thinking about 'winning'. However, Russ Howard is an excellent teacher and the book is surprisingly appropriate for a beginner as well as a more advanced player. He covers, in detail, the mechanics of delivering the rock as well as sweeping, as well as simple but important things like curling etiquette.

When you start curling,it can be pretty baffling to look at the array of rocks in the house and understand how the planning process for shots works. This book has a lot of pictorial examples, not only showing types of shots but also strategy and planning for different configurations of rocks in play.

Curling, like golf, is a sport a person can take up and play at any stage of life. For the non-competitive level it doesn't really require supreme athleticism because there is a lot of technique and physical control more that strength. If a person is competitive though, this book offers a lot in terms of strategy and the mental aspects of the sport as well as the dynamics of team play. I would recommend it to any level of curler.

The only thing missing from this book (and any curling book I've looked at so far) is a detailed description of the common tools in use for curlers with physical disabilities. Curling the traditional way requires fully functional knees and there are a lot of knee issues that crop up as people get older. Luckily, there are ways to get around that using 'the stick', grippers, and other items found at the curling rink. Its a real shame that they aren't more widely known because more people might take up the sport if they knew about them.
