My name is Lauren. You’ve met my daughter, Abigail. She is pretty amazing isn’t she? My life took a path I didn’t expect. A path I had no say in. Before it’s too late, I want the chance to explain why I lied and took away Doug’s chance to be a father. The saying goes, there are two sides to every story and this is mine.
Book three in The Connected Series. Coming January 2015.
KA Hobbs lives with her husband in Essex. When she isn’t lost in a book or creating one, she loves to cook, swim, colour and shop. Her happiest times are always when she is surrounded by family and friends or watching Cinderella which some might say she is a little obsessed with. She is a little obsessed with the Tudors and would love to go back to that period in time.
One day, while watching TV, a scene came to her, completely out of the blue. She could see the scene unfolding, could picture the characters so clearly. She couldn't get to her laptop quick enough and spent hours writing not only that scene, but lots of others too.
She will happily admit to being grumpy when she doesn’t get to write, she loves her characters and spending time listening to what they have to say.

I was very lucky to have gotten an ARC of Broken. Again KA Hobbs shows how brilliant of an author she is.
I love Doubt and Assured. These books made me fall in love with Doug and Sophie as a couple. As much as I love them, I'm protective of Sophie. So I was worried that if Lauren was still alive that Doug wouldn't leave Sophie so in my head I disliked Lauren before I started reading the book.
I was wrong (I don't say that often lol). When I finished this story my heart broke for Lauren and I understood why she did what she did and I even like her.
This story is Lauren side, how she met Doug, how Abigail came to be and why Lauren hid the truth from Doug for years.
***Warning you will need lots of tissues!!!
The Connected Series is a phenomenal 5+ star read. You'll want to check them out. It's a beautiful series about life, love, and the ups and downs that come with it. In many different ways you'll find you can relate to these characters. I can't wait to read the next book.
Broken is the 3rd book in The Connected series from the wonderful KA Hobbs. In Broken, we detract away from Sophie & Doug's new life and revisit somebody who has briefly been mentioned - Abigail's mum, Lauren.
We find out in book 1 that Doug had a brief relationship with Lauren a few years ago and she fell pregnant. She then left Doug behind and went back to the US to be with her parents, telling Doug that there was no longer a baby. Readers may have thought bad of Lauren for doing this, for lying about such a thing, but in Broken we find out her reasons why.
We get to know all about Lauren's life since leaving Doug behind, all about why she did what she did and why Doug only recently found out about Abigail. This is done through the story prose and some letters that Lauren has written.
I don't want to give too much away as I want you to read it for yourself, but I know this was a very hard story for KA to write and I can see why, and it is written beautifully; I really came to be on Lauren's side and was glad that KA decided to let us see things from Lauren's point of view.
This is the story of Lauren, if you have read Assured then you will be aware of how she is involved in Doug and Sophie' s life. Lauren is the mother of Abigail, Doug's daughter. In this story gives us further insight into what happened between Doug and Lauren. It's beautifully written, told from Lauren's point of view we go between the past and letters that Lauren writes to Doug, Sophie, Abigail and her parents. It's heartbraking, Lauren has cancer and wants to ensure that her precious daughter is looked after and knows who her parents are.
I warn anyone who reads this to come prepared with tissues, chocolate and wine. I read this short novella in an evening, my heart breaking with each letter that Lauren wrote, especially the ones for key moments in Abigail's life.
We know how the story ends, but we are treated to an excerpt from the next book, Harry's story.
I am looking forward to getting back to Doug, Sophie and the rest of the gang.
KA Hobbs has written a remarkable story of a young mothers love for her daughter. Don't forget that proceeds from the book will be going to Cancer Research UK.
This is Lauren's story. You'll have had to read the first two in the series for this one to make sense, but when you have, this breathtaking book will inspire you, take hold of you, and make you feel from the 'tips of your toes.' Lauren is Abigail's mother. We all know her unfortunate end, but in this short story we get to see the lead up to Abigail's birth, a few of her 'firsts' and ultimately the child that's Lauren raised for as long as she could. The book is set in three sections, past, current and letters. We get a short back story of how Doug and Lauren met, what happened when she got pregnant, and ultimately why she fled. This is a beautiful piece of writing from KA Hobbs. I've been in tears, but surprisingly they weren't sad tears. She's managed to put a positive spin on things and made the reader look at all the good that life can bring, and not just the negatives. I strongly recommend this series and this book.
Preorder now and be get the chance to win a wine charm set to the theme of the series, donated by the lovely lady herself KA Hobbs - Author and posted by me. Just post proof below of pre order xx
Totally and utterly heartbroken . This is Laurens story. She explains why she did what she did and why she allows Doug to finally see his daughter.
When i first read about Lauren in Doubt, then a bit more about her in assured, i called her every bitch under the sun. And then, i read Broken. I wholeheartedly take back everything bad i said abour her. While i don't agree with what she did, i understood her reasons behind it. Lauren describes everything from the day she meets Doug to the day she finally leaves Abigail behind. It's so touching and although it is a major illness, the storyline is written with the respect it deserves. I recommend the connected series to anyone who will listen. K.A. Hobbs is a must read author

“I’m that little gust of wind you feel when there is no window open, I’m that little shiver up your spine when you’re perfectly warm. I’m that little drop of rain you feel when the sky is perfectly blue – and the sky will be blue for you today beautiful, but if for some reason it isn’t… It isn’t bad luck, it is all the Angels crying in happiness for you…”
My Review:
It would be extremely hard to write letters from a dead woman to her child and remaining relatives, and not be at least a little sappy. K.A. Hobbs did a good job of keeping the sap to a bearable level. While it was sad and squeezed the heart, it was also touching, and even quite believable. I had my doubts going in after being team Doug from reading the first two volumes, although I found myself appreciating Lauren’s sacrifice, and quickly began to care for her as the story unfolded.
Broken is incredible - puting into words how everything I had felt about Lauren and her decisions in the previous two books were so completely wrong. We meet Lauren who is such a beautiful person inside and out. It's no wonder Abigail is such an extraordinary little girl. Abigail apologises for the decisions she made and keeps doing so through her story. I was so desperate to assure her it was okay. That she should feel forgiven and that she can be at peace with everything that happened. She brought Doug AND Sophie something that made them stronger...the incredible little girl that is Abigail. A truly heartbreaking read but an integral part of the series. I adored it with every piece of my heart! Another five star book from the wonderful KA Hobbs! <3
Well I'm not really a crying person takes a lot for me to shred a tear then I read Broken had to be read a few times (be warned have tissues at the ready).
First met Lauren in Doubt (book one) I didn't like her what she did was a no go but then after reading her story Broken it changed. Reading Broken was like seeing into someone's life that had gone through the dramatic event. It had so much emotional and settling answers to what it was like going through that especially bringing up young Abigail through it all.
I love KA Hobbs writing and after Doubt and Assured, Broken was outstanding. Looking foward to more from the series.
After meeting Lauren in Doubt i didn't really like her or understand why she did what she did, Even tho i knew she must of had her reasons didn't mean i understood. After reading broken i feel totally different. I love Lauren and feel kind of protective of her. Broken was hard to read but beautifully written. It touched a little close to home and brung back some bad memories but i still loved it. :)
5* I want to start this by applauding KA on tackling a difficult topic and doing an amazing job of it as well! Lauren's story was never going to be an easy one to tell given the way it ends and I'm so glad that KA gave Lauren a chance to tell her side of the story. I know that a lot of people have reservations where Lauren is concerned after keeping Abigail's existence from Doug but Broken sheds some light on the story as a whole. It's heartbreaking, haunting and beautiful all at the same time and if you are prone to crying then I suggest you get the tissues ready! If you have read Doubt and Assured then you need to read Broken ASAP, trust me when I say it will connect some dots and getting a glimpse of what a younger Doug was like is always a bonus! And if you haven't then what are you waiting for? This is a truly amazing series and I am so glad that stumbled across this amazing author!
“Learning is a gift. Even when pain is your teacher.”
In life, do we ever really know what someone is thinking? Or feeling? Are we too quick to judge others based on the decisions they make? Are we too critical? Are we so wrapped up in our own perceptions and feelings, that we never really look at why? Why people do the things they do? Why people make the decisions they make?
This is what happened to Lauren.
As we all know from reading Doubt and Assured, Lauren is Abigail’s mother. We know that Lauren died and left Abigail to Doug. We also know that Doug had no idea that Abigail existed until after Lauren’s death. Abigail is 4 years old. Four years of Abigail not knowing who her daddy is, all because Lauren kept it secret. We never really knew why Lauren made the decision never to tell Doug about Abigail.
But reading Broken, we now know why.
Broken has got to be one of the hardest reads we have had to date. There is no happily ever after. There is no fairy tale ending.
This is Lauren’s journey.
Every word, on every page, you feel. You feel Lauren’s hurt, and pain. You feel her anguish and guilt. You feel her devastation and her fears. You feel her warmth and her love. You just simply feel.
Broken is a highly emotional read. We cried from the very first sentence, right through until the very end. It’s a hard and confronting read. It’s raw. It’s tough. It’s heart breaking, but Broken is a MUST read. You simply have to read it. We simply couldn't put it down. Lauren’s story definitely needed to be told and KA has done it beautifully. As readers we couldn't have asked for a better way for Lauren’s story to be told.
To KA Hobbs all we can say is thank you. Thank you for telling Lauren’s story. Thank you for helping us understand. Thank you for giving us a piece of Lauren. Thank you.
Broken needs to be on everyone’s TBR list and is a definite 5 star read.
Another fantastic book from KA Hobbs. It was so emotional and all the questions I had about Lauren and bad feeling were very much irrelevant after reading about her strength, love and remorse for her decisions. She is such a strong woman and in the face of such adversity she finds the strength to say goodbye, to recollect her thoughts of her love for Doug and how she thought letting him go was the best thing. She keeps apologising for her wrong doing but I just want to tell her not to be. To find peace with what she did. This book is simply beautifully written with letters for Abigail, Doug and Sophie. Keep the tissues to hand but you won't want to miss out in this integral part of the Connected Series. It's incredible and the fact that KA Hobbs is donating all pre-,orders and first four weeks of sales to Cancer Research is so incredibly touching. One of my top reads for 2015. I can't wait for the next in the Connected Series!! <3
I am in tears as I write this. Lauren's story is one that will warm and break your heart at the same time. After reading this story you finally realize why Abigail's heart and loving nature was is big. Lauren's story is one that needed to be written and the way K.A. Hobbs has done it is so beautifully breathtaking. This book alone has the makings for a great screen play. I cried so much while reading this book and know it will go down as the best tear jerker of all time for me. I love K.A. Hobbs and cannot wait for more from her. I have read all of her works that have been published and it has been a pleasure to watch her grow as a writer. The first book in this series made by best of 2014 list and I have a feeling that she will be a permanent fixture on it for a long time. I read and reviewed for A Literary Perusal. I am giving this book 5 stars.
I cannot express how moving, touching and amazing this book is! KA Hobbs has journeyed through a really troubling time that affects most families and completely surpassed my expectations!
Like most, I was definitely not a fan of Lauren in Doubt and Assured but my god I do not feel the same way anymore. She is such a strong and brave woman only wanting the best for her daughter. Well done KA for being able to change my stubborn mind!
This is such a beautifully written book with a power message with some of the proceeds being donated to Cancer Research UK.
Another fab part to the connected series. Here we have lots of our questions answered, and for those of you who disliked/ere angry with/ felt malice towards Lauren throughout Doubt and Assured..... you will learn to love and accept her in this. A real tear jerker, keep your tissues nearby ;) Well done KA Hobbs, you nailed it!
I was given this book in turn for an honest review.
Lauren left London to live with her family in America; she had a secret, one that would change people's lives. With life taking an unexpected turn, that secret came to light.
Broken is the story of a young woman, who had her whole life ahead of her and chooses to leave it behind to take care of her daughter alone, she wasn't selfish she was trying to protect the man she loved and her already broken heart.
This is a very emotional and heart breaking story. When I read Sophie and Doug's story in the first two books, I never felt any ill towards Lauren; something told me she had reason for what she did and in Broken she tells us her story.
KA Hobbs has written Lauren’s story, eloquently, beautifully and with her own heart and soul. You can feel the emotions she experienced whilst writing Lauren’s story from the words on the pages, they pull at you, grab you and gut you.
This story will touch you and it will give you a whole new appreciation for Lauren. She truly touched my heart and I loved her. She was brave, mature, thoughtful and caring.
If you read Sophie and Doug's story and wondered why Lauren held onto the secret like she did, you will want to read Broken by KA Hobbs.
I was very kindly gifted a copy of this trilogy by the author. wow! what a rollercoaster, all three of these books were nothing I expected them to be! wonderful characters all wrapped up with a big Lauren and Doug bow on top!
