Read Entrepreneur 5 pm to 9 am to realize your dream of being an entrepreneur even if you have a full-time job!
Dr. Kanth Miriyala used to work as a full-time business consultant for an MNC. He realized that due to the hectic job schedule, his health and his relationships were suffering. His two year old son would refuse to talk to him on weekends as Kanth's hectic job schedule left him with little time to spend with the family during the weekdays. And when he looked at his bank balance; it did not look great either. That's when he realized that he was just exchanging time for money. He started to seriously consider being an entrepreneur by building a startup but did not want to risk quitting his job.
His realization took him on an interesting journey of discovering what it takes to be an entrepreneur - figuring out where to start, experimenting, making mistakes, learning, expanding network, and building startups in different areas of passion while he was still working on his 9 to 5 job. Some of his ventures as an entrepreneur failed and some succeeded. He was one of the founders of Quintant which was sold to iGATE for 87 crores. He was an investor in Qik, a mobile video streaming company which was sold to Skype for $150 million. How do you build a startup from Zero to Launch and manage to regain your balance in the "Wheel of Life" is what this book is all about. The book also has anecdotal stories of other successful entrepreneurs and their experiences of building a startup. The book provides a clear approach for converting your business idea into a profitable startup and taking your business from Zero to Launch.
Read this book if you are about to launch your first startup, or if you’re thinking of doing so. The road-map explained here will: 1) Provide you with a widely tested and proven methodology that will dramatically reduce the risk of failure for your startup 2) Help your offering sell and make money before any significant investments are made in your startup 3) Rapidly increase the valuation of your startup before you take outside funding 4) Help you create a startup that YOU would enjoy building — one that’s aligned with your goals in life and leverages your personal strengths
My first read about Startup.Undoubtly a good pick for the people who are making their initial steps in entrepreneurship. This book changed my insights about startup and things I misapprehended. It also suggests us about good books to read about entrepreneurship. "Everything you will need, you can find" - Thanks to the authors.
It is nice to be a kid in the middle-class family. You will learn everything about life. Practically, you will be in a mindstate assuming you don’t have anything when you are blessed with all necessary things.
“Not everyone must be born with a silver spoon”. It’s just a silver spoon, if you need it from your heart, your actions will refine towards achieving the same. “Silver spoon” can be anything!
If your spoon is to become an “Entrepreneur”, you need passion, time and right people around you. This book explains how the idea should evolve, how to evaluate and make money out of it. It is a simple six-step process - “Target Segment, Reach, Problem, Solution, Approach & Cost” called as Zero to Launch formula.
If you are a typical first generation Indian entrepreneur in the initial stages, you will find it as a guide. Hope you get your spoon soon!
The book is written from a mindset that reader is a beginner in the field of Entrepreneur, if you want to make big changes in your quadrants (as Mr. Kiyosaki would have said), you might want to start reading this book which will inform you about the basics of choosing self-owned business rather than a job you are not passionate for. This book is very nice but it does limits in giving practical and relevant diversified examples and lacks in the true opinions of the writer; Most of the times I felt it talking, rather than explaining. I still am really happy after reading this book.
This is a book for people who crave for financial freedom, It's for those who want to escape the mundane corporate life & build something of their own; and for those who want to make their passion a viable business.
While most Entrepreneurship books(other books)try to inspire & motivate the audience to go for it, the authors of "Entrepreneur 5pm to 9am" not only try to inspire but have gone ahead and articulated here is how one actually does it(zero to launch step by step). They offer practical steps with engaging anecdotes from lives of Entrepreneurs & Mr.Kanth(Coauthor/Entrepreneur);another aspect of this book I particularly like is the various exhibits that visualize the essence of each chapter.
I would summarize this book as a guiding map for the journey of any first time entrepreneur; If you are one of those who always wanted to start a business but never actually knew where to start & how to navigate the several challenges in that journey,"Entrepreneur 5pm to 9am" is your map, now go..... change your life !
A good read for aspiring first time entrepreneurs.
The length of the book is short. Although it still touches almost all the aspects. Good for the non persistent readers like myself.
I would have have preferred the name "a step by step guide to launch a profitable startup" as it takes you through the steps that you would want to take when starting your own business. Is doesn't give you a time based approach to actually figure out the time between your job and your startup.
The steps that are mentioned are quite insightful. Especially the short summaries of the various books that the authors have read and recommended. It provokes you to think in the direction that would be suitable for you personally and also points out the usual tendencies and fallacies that one can adopt and fail.
I would definitely keep my hands on it for further references. Grateful to the authors for putting this piece together.
The book was little disappointment for me. Though nothing that bad about the book’s content, but I set different expectations going by the title of books. The book was more of the guide that help you plan a (Full time) startup. I was expecting some case studies where people did their 5pm - 9am part-time startups/ business alongside their regular 9am -5pm Jobs. But unfortunately there were no such cases, and there were very few examples of real startup/ business either.
On the brighter side, the writer has good credentials and claims to had several failed and successful startups. He tried to put a guide based on his own experiences and learnings, which he did very well. In the end, the reader might feel more prepared about her/his own startup.
Entrepreneur 5 P.M to 9 A.M - by Kanth Miriyala and Reethika Sunder is an awesome read for anyone aspiring to be an entrepreneur and entrepreneurs who are already on the entrepreneurial path. While the title suggest 5 pm to 9 am, the book is filled with advice, concepts and strategies that will help entrepreneurs 24/7 - 365. Success in entrepreneurship is not guaranteed and the road to success is not certain as well. But Kanth and Reethika have shown great clarity on how to move from the uncertain to the certain, from the unknown to the known by cocreating and iteratively testing ideas. Sighting numerous authors and their work is added validation for entrepreneurs to take the book seriously. Highly recommend reading it. #BookLovers #LoveToRead #dntjbookclub #atozentrepreneurship
This book provides bite-sized chapters on many topics of entrepreneur journey. At the many places it leaves pointers which reader is expected to pick and dig deeper outside somewhere. If that's the format working out for you then it's a right book otherwise you may skip this one.
One good point I discovered in this book though was on finding co-founder and their wages. If startup is not profitable then equity is all you should offer w/o any salary. And, ur startup is profitable then proper salary with stock options makes sense. Good point.
Great book on starting your own company. What I liked is the simplicity in message and to the point discussion of topics that truly matters. Easily the authors could have filled up pages with case studies and motitavational fillers. I would rate this as the best book that made maximum impact to wannabe entrepreneurs as the book addresses only those matters most. My heartfelt thanks to authors. P.S. I stumbled upon this book purely by chance on Amazon kindle unlimited and consider lucky
Unlike the title suggests (5PM to 9AM), this book is not intended for part time entrepreneurs. This book is equally intended for people interested to be Full Time Entrepreneurs & Intrapreneurs. The book talks about Bright Spot Analysis in a wonderful way. Authors give a good reason as to why conscious customer's responses do not help during surveys for product development.
Book had an interesting start, lost focus at some point but had it’s grip. Finished it cover to cover and found this is a must read, specially for new entrepreneurs. Although at times this feels that the book is just a collection of references but this is an art to have intelligent references at a places strung wisely.
The title says it all. Brilliant tips about saving your butt starting up. Most graphs are insightful. Examples are lean towards the Indian market and most of the time laid out a roadmap conducive to software based ideas. But all in all a good roadmap and definitely a recommend to all the Indian graduates, who seek such a career trajectory.
A good shot read for anyone who is looking for a startup. But I expected a more vivid explanation of chapters where one could put the bed-rock for his/her start-up fundamentals. I would prefer Peter Theil's to this one indeed.
The author seems to have enough experience to write this book. However, the narration is not harmonious. There are hindrances to reading this book fast. I don't know what, may be some presentation issues.
An entrepreneur in his/her research may also read this book. Useful!!
It has good insights for the people who looking to start their own business, everything is short and crunch. What ever the information author has mentioned in his book, I have seen that has been implemented in my current organisation
From a beginner's mindset point of view. I like how unlike most of the "millennial" advice of quitting job, this book will help you appreciate wherever you might be in life right now and start from there. Practical advice.
This book is short and quick in its pace and takes you, as a person considering starting up, from nothing to something very quickly. Perfect for a quick read to get the right ideas about what to do should you wish to start up. The authors took many ideas, extracted their essence, and delivered them in bite-size form in a sequenced manner. At the end of the book, they've provided references for those who wish to delve deeper into the ideas mentioned.
One gripe I have, which I am not sure is related to the ebook or simply the ebook reader (I bought this off Flipkart and used their reader), is that when I read the ebook, it appeared that some punctuation was off, as in, some words had no space between them and some hyphens were missing.
Another gripe I have, which is related to the book, is that though there are two authors the word "I" is used everywhere. I couldn't figure out which of the two authors was speaking, especially at the beginning. I suppose most of the time when "I" was used, it was being used by Miriyala. Still, that was a bit irritating since it was not made explicit.
I especially liked that this book referenced a number of other resources. For me, that increased their credibility and it offers readers additional references to touch upon as they venture into the world of entrepreneurship. Mixed in with such references were a number of examples that aide the reader in seeing steps that may result in failure versus those that encourage success. This too validates the importance of the message the authors are trying to deliver.
a very insightful book, thought provoking one. let me see without procrastination, if i am able to copy some of the traits detailed in this book. my take away from this book would be:
1. never sit with an idea, its not a business 2. never start on your own assumption, leave alone start big 3. start/build in iterations, validate with your identified customer avatar 4. if you are not clear on what to do, just observe your passion, do it for yourself and people like you. 5. find your mentors....
This book was very detailed, easy to understand, and well written. For anyone who wants to start a business should read this book. It will come in handy for people who are interested in business and entrepreneurship. My brother wants to start his own business someday. I'll be sure to pass this book to him to read. I'm sure he will be great because he is very outgoing. I received this book for an free in exchange for an honest review.
One of the best business book I have read. Written in a lucid language and backed by good case studies, the advice showered is practical. At the same time, there is a positive note to embark on the entrepreneur journey. Even if you do not plan to become an entrepreneur, there is a lot to take from this book. The suggested reading section at the end is priceless! Best thing being, the authors have made the book brief and to the point which earns a 5 star rating from me.
Reading Books on Entrepreneurship after a long time and this book has been the best way to recollect everything after a break and to be back on track again.. Its a consolidation of many books on E'ship and serves as a ready reference if you are stuck in the middle of the road and just have an hour or two. Thanks to Kanth Miriyala.
Very good book on understanding the step by step process of starting up something on your own. The ideation to launch process is very insightful. There is very clear focus on preparation for start-up and this will help if it has to be done with a job in hand. Thanks a lot Mr. Miriyala for such a guided piece. Hope your steps help lot of aspiring entrepreneurs succeed.
A very good step by step planner & guide for the entrepreneurs with very good start-up ideas. Will be refer for me often. One of my favorite books in my shelf. But the title doesn't suite the content.
