5☆ A Must Read for all

She’s Having Her Baby is a story of friendship, relationships, infertility problems, surrogacy, motherhood and pregnancy.

Would you ever be able to be a surrogate mother for your best friend if she asked?

Well that's exactly what happened to Georgie. After a drunken night with her best friend Nina, she asks if she would carry her baby as she has been trying for so many years to conceive.
Georgie agrees, without even truly thinking of the ups and downs of being pregnant and how much her life was about to change!

For me giving anyone the chance to have a baby is such a truly unique and special gift it melted my heart.

Georgie is career driven and motherhood is the last thing she wants. But seeing Nina so unhappy when all their friends have families is the push she needs to help Nina.

But this story is more that just having a baby it's a humorous inside look at the ups and downs of becoming pregnant, being pregnant, the relationships between the friends and their families.

It's a wonderful story of the power of friendship and how a selfless act of friendship will change lives.

Although there are plenty of laugh out loud moments, there are also very sensitive subjects which effect so many families all over the world.
But Lauren gets the mix just perfectly.
This is a funny, poignant, heart warming and at times emotional read that drew me in and easily kept me turning the pages.
I really do believe She's Having Her Baby will appeal to a wide variety of readers.

I'm excited to see what's next from Lauren. I have a feeling she is going to be an Author to watch out for!

Thank you to Legend Press for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Lauren Sams’ debut novel, She’s Having Her Baby, is a very real, yet humorous, look at the ups and downs of friendship, infertility, motherhood and all things in between.
It’s easy to not connect with Georgie at the beginning of the book, she is selfish and very opinionated but then she does the most amazing selfless thing and offers to give birth to her best friend’s baby.
I didn’t like Nina at the start of the book and still didn’t warm to her by the end of the story. Maybe its just I’ve never been in her situation so couldn’t connect with her character. My favourite character was Colin Bennet. Are there really men out there like Colin? He must have popped over from some fantasy world. I really need him to be in the next book!

I would recommend this book to every mother out there that can have a laugh and doesn’t take themselves too seriously.

This story made me laugh out loud and I even got a little teary at times.
Looking forward to the sequel!

With thanks to First Reads and the publisher for my copy to read and review.

I really enjoyed reading the first installement of a hilarious hit international series. If you are a fan of JoJo Moye’s like I am, then your going to love this book. Two women are completely different. Georgie Henderson doesn’t want kids, but Nina her best friend was desperate for a baby. Sadly there are woman in this world that can’t have a baby and turn to a surrogate. This story brings this to light with IVF not working, but has some funny lines in some scenes too.

This book was utterly amazing, funny, heartwarming and got me right in the feels numerous times. We all could use a friend in our lives like Georgie Henderson. She’s a career driven professional, though she is behind the eight-ball when it comes to staying on top of the technological advances in the world and especially digital publishing. The thing I loved about Georgie is she doesn’t make any apologies for who she is and that kind of person is who we all need in our lives. She is open, honest, blunt and would bend over backwards for her friends.

Georgie doesn’t want children, the jury is out whether she wants marriage as well, but when her best friend Nina suffers another failure with fertility, Nina asks Georgie to be a surrogate. Not having children, myself, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that asking someone to carry a baby for you is a BIG deal and the decision should not be taken lightly. Surprising herself, Nina, and everyone around her, me included, Georgie agrees. She doesn’t bother to tell her live-in boyfriend, however so you know there’s a huge can of worms just waiting to open here.

Life has a way of throwing curve balls at us, especially when we think we are in control of our collective fates and destiny and Georgie is no exception. When she goes in for the embryo implantation, the doctor tells her it cannot be done because she is already pregnant! Yes, the woman who has no interest in having children of her own has a bun in the oven and it’s a huge understatement to say neither Georgie nor Nina respond well to the news.

What I absolutely loved about this story is we get to join Georgie on this detour that life has thrown her. Without adding any personal beliefs or preferences, the author gives Georgie the freedom to explore all her options. Georgie is in a state of shock and is newly single since the above mentioned can of worms was opened and the live-in boyfriend doesn’t respond well to Georgie’s decision to carry someone’s baby without telling him. Georgie is struggling with whether or not she wants the baby and, more importantly, can she do this? Can she be who this baby will need her to be? Can she love this baby enough? Can she manage the responsibility of another person depending on her 24 / 7 / 365 for their very survival? I honestly was on pins and needles wondering what Georgie would do.

My Final Verdict: The story was hilarious and the author was amazing. I absolutely loved Lauren Sams’s voice and look forward to reading more from her. I highly recommend this book to readers who love stories that make them laugh and that feature characters that are easy to relate to and empathize with.

She's Having Her Baby is a funny and bittersweet debut chick lit novel from Lauren Sams.

"This is it. She's going to ask me to be her surrogate. No, she won't. Surely she won't. That only happens in Katherine Heigl movies, Jesus f** Christ, what if she asks? What am I going to say? There's only one answer, right? Jesus f**"

Thirty something magazine editor, Georgie Henderson, has never wanted kids but her best friend, Nina Doherty, wants nothing more than to be a mother and when her latest IVF attempt fails, she asks Georgie for the ultimate favour. Reluctantly Georgie agrees to become Nina's surrogate, willing to help Nina's dream come true, but Georgie is wholly unprepared for what comes next...

Life doesn't always go to plan and in She's Having Her Baby the plot doesn't quite develop as the reader may expect. Sharply observed, the author explores the themes of infertility, surrogacy, motherhood and friendship in a manner that is funny, poignant and compassionate.

I found Georgie to be an interesting character, she definitely has her flaws, being somewhat inflexible and self absorbed, but she is amusing, feisty and loyal in her own way. I admired Georgia for deciding to help Nina, though I think choosing not to have children for whatever reason is a perfectly valid decision, and though Georgia doesn't cope particularly well when things don't work out as expected, including with her relationship and career, she eventually pulls it together.

I've witnessed the toll infertility can take on the soul, and relationships, and I really felt for Nina, her desperation is authentic and moving. I laughed out loud at the passages describing the parenting styles of Ellie and the mothers at the playground. Those type of 'helicopter', holier than thou parents drove me crazy when my children were babies so I agreed . It's not like I let mine play with knives or fed them a steady diet of McDonalds but they watched ABC Kids, ate jarred baby foods and wore disposable nappies, and let me assure you they are all bright, healthy and happy children.

The writing is of a good standard, the dialogue is natural, and humour is used to good effect, without undermining the more serious issues. The pacing works well with some surprises in the plot and a conclusion that is satisfying but not too neat.

I enjoyed She's Having Her Baby, I found it to be both an entertaining and touching novel tackling issues relevant to the modern woman. Lauren Sams is a debut author with promise.

I didn't expect to love this book as much as I did. It sounds like chick-lit with a serious storyline when Georgie agrees to be a surrogate for her best friend Nina, but it has a hilarious twist in the tale. I laughed so much that I felt as if I'd had an intense tummy workout. She's Having Her Baby is the best kind of exercise for those out of shape tummy muscles.

Georgie is a brilliant character; I absolutely loved her. As a career woman with an aversion to babies, she somehow manages to be both selfish and selfless when she offers to carry a baby for her best friend. Georgie's complete denial when she finds out that she is pregnant is so funny, it's only when she practically bursts out of her bra that it really hits home for her. I almost choked with laughter when Georgie got fitted fitted for an F-cup and said that the F stands for 'fark me, your tits are massive'.

Being friends from school, I loved the history that Georgie and Nina have. Their school reunion is hilarious when Nina tells Kelly, the school bully, what everyone really thought of her. Never mind rapturous applause from the people in the book, I was punching the air and applauding too. It's funny how people remember the past differently and I wanted to smack Kelly in the face when she was being all sickly nice to Georgie and Nina but Nina saved me by giving her a well-deserved and well-overdue tongue lashing!

Georgie's job as editor of Jolie magazine reminded me of The Devil Wears Prada with all the minions running around while Meg The Big Boss swishes in and out issuing instructions. Georgie might thinks she's friends with Meg but I've always said that you don't have friends at work and Georgie finds this out the hard way. I enjoyed the trips to Georgie's office, as it gave us a little insight into the world of magazine publishing.

With her inimitable Aussie humour, Lauren Sams writes like an Australian Marian Keyes, as she manages to put an amusing slant on everyday observations. The unbreakable, but often tested, thread of friendship is woven throughout the book so I knew that Georgie would 'get by with a little help from her friends'. See what I did there? Lauren Sams adds a few song references now and again and I bet I didn't even spot all of them but it was good fun seeing how she slipped them in there.

Both witty and heart-warming, She's Having Her Baby is as fresh as it is funny. I loved every single page of it; fans of Lauren Weisberger, Marian Keyes and Helen Fielding should definitely not miss this one!

I chose to read an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

What a great, light-hearted story that was funny and bright all at once. I had never come across this book, nor author, before and I am really glad that I had the chance to read this. Reminding me very much of Sophie Kinsella, this novel made me laugh and smile all the way through.

For me, this book was unique all the way through. Dealing with issues of surrogacy, pregnancy and close friendships, these three themes are very close to my heart. However, the way that Sams approaches these themes are comedic and from the opening Prologue, I was chuckling away and able to relate to George’s internal frustrations as she tries to shop whilst being very heavily pregnant. And whilst the issues of infertility and surrogacy are delicate matters, Sams writes about them in such a way that reinforces the theme of friendship and looking out for one another. As a result, I loved the relationship between George and Nina, and was rooting for them right until the very end.

Whilst being a chick-flick, I still found the plot unpredictable, which is unusual for me. Such little twists and turns were enough to keep me enjoying the novel, without having to “work too hard” at the plot. I loved the fact that this was set in Australia too. My geography is pretty pants, but, as my blog readers know, I love a good book set in the sunshine and could easily imagine the golden coast and the Australian vibes! This definitely adds to the light-heartedness of the story, in my opinion, and I don’t think it would have worked being set in grey, wintery, London. I haven’t read many novels set in Australia, for whatever weird reason, and I think Sams simply begins to highlight that this is another treasure trove of writers waiting to be discovered.

I can’t tell you enough how much I enjoyed this story and I am so pleased to discover that there is a second one in the series! This very much reminded me of Sophie Kinsella’s earlier writings, mostly the Shopaholic series because Sams makes everything a bit of innocent fun. There are so many things that female readers can relate to such as pregnancy and trying to juggle the symptoms whilst working. It is deserving of a happy ending and I am happy that this is what Sams provided.

This was a great, funny read and a great example of a chick-flick novel. Bring on the next one!

This is my kind of book. I really enjoyed it. My hat goes off to the main character Georgia for helping her friend Nina when she couldn't have a baby. Even though I'm not a mother myself, I always scope out books about parenthood especially motherhood. I like to hear about the trials and tribulations. I enjoy it in both genres of fiction and non fiction. I hope Lauren writes more in the future especially about motherhood. maybe even a sequel?

Thanks goes to net galley & the publishers for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

She’s Having Her Baby is equal parts funny and serious. It has the perfect balance to keep you reading. Lauren Sams has found a unique way of addressing infertility while also incorporating the dynamics between a women who desperately wants a baby but cannot carry; and her best friend who never wants a baby but ends up pregnant.

It's an enjoyable and often utterly hilarious read - there are some great one-liners and the humour really reminded me of another great Aussie writer, Kathy Lette. All women-of-a-certain-age will be able to relate to and recognise themselves at least in part in one of the characters : Nina, going through the heartbreak of infertility, Georgie, convinced she doesn't want kids, or Ellie, the completely over-the-top Earth mother whose son is her entire world. I did think it was a shame that the surrogacy angle got sidelined though, as I think that had great potential to make the book completely original and really stand out from other similar chicklit that I've read in the past.

I just loved this book – it’s very, very funny. There’s humour in every line, honesty on every page and enough touching episodes to keep you believing in the characters. Anyone who has tried to get pregnant, tried to be a friend to a new parent or who has put up with irritatingly rose-tinted-spectacled-people advocating this, that or the other will recognise themselves here. The plot takes a few twists too – this is truly a well-crafted novel. If you enjoy The Letdown on Netflicks, you’ll be thrilled with She’s Having Her Baby. Thanks to Lauren Sams for a really great read, and to Legend Press for sending me a review copy. It’ll be a long time before I find a gem like this.
This is worth more than five stars!

I loved this book-until the end. I thought that the struggles that George, Ellie, and Nina were going through were a very accurate portrayal of what it is to deal with infertility, pregnancy, and motherhood today. The writing was great-the book was easy to read and humorous, especially for tackling such difficult issues. However, I just really didn't get the end. I don't want to give anything away, but I am not sure how it would be a satisfactory conclusion for anyone in real life. It seemed like a great way to end a book, but not a realistic scenario for the characters' that were dealt with so realistically throughout the rest of the book.

4 Stars for this awesome book!

I kinda a bit regret myself when I found this book Took a slow-kind of-story.
In the earliest pages, I swear I found this book a bit boring? and really wanted to DNF it (I got this book with a very cheap price in a book event; that's why I read it this year, very late)

BUT!!
NOPE.
NOT BORING AT ALL. From the middle to almost the end of the story, Yes, it turned out so enjoyable!
I was like, Oh-Yes,Hella you Georgie... she's the type of a girl I like. This is duology book, isn't it? I'm hoping to read the second book, I want to see how George rise her own kid, I know I'm not a mother so far, not reached there yet HAHA., but I really like everything about genre relating to this.

George (don't call her Georgie) is focused on her career and has sworn she'll never have kids. Until her best friend Nina is battling infertility and, as a last ditch effort, asks George to carry her baby.

Can Nina and George's friendship survive the transition to motherhood? And can they avoid turning into Ellie, the one time party-girl who now can't think beyond her two year old?

A fun, light read that covers friendship, motherhood, and feeling out of step with the world around you.

Looking forward to the

This was a fast read, and as a Mom to young kids, I found all the baby/parenting-talk very relatable, and somewhat entertaining. It had me reminiscing on my own pregnancies, which I enjoyed. However, there was just something lacking that I can’t quite articulate to bump this up to a higher rating. Plus, the ending was predictable and yet flawed in its realness. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

This was a wonderful read about infertility and the lengths friends will go to help out their childless friends.

Nina and her husband desperately want s baby and have gone to all lengths to make this happen.

Their last resort is surrogacy from Nina’s best friend Georgie.

The book was very emotional. Having gone through infertility myself I wasn’t sure I would be able to read it.

I would recommend. It’s a lovely read for such a sensitive subject.

I received the ARC of Lauren Sams She’s Having Her Baby recently and just finished this week. I was pleasantly surprised by how many times I laughed out loud during this year and I definitely recommend for a quick fun read. The story is about two best friends, one of whom doesn’t want children and one who is struggling with infertility. The anti-children friend agrees to be the surrogate for the friend who desperately wants them but there are several twists that make this an interesting read!

3.5. An enjoyable reading break from my usual thriller genre. Also very relatable since I'm now also pregnant! Quite a nostalgic reminder of when magazines started going digital. Some of the characters just got on my nerves sometimes, but I guess that's also the point 😅

Georgie and Nina are best friends with one major difference. Georgie has long known she never wants kids and relishes the freedom that life choice brings. Nina on the other hand wants nothing more than to be a mother. Married for several years she and her husband have endured the rollercoaster of IVF with no success and it has taken its toll on their relationship. Deciding that she can't go through the torturous process again Nina and Georgie go out drinking one night and with her inhibitions lowered Nina asks her friend if she will be her surrogate.

Nobody is more surprised than Georgie herself when she reluctantly agrees to do the ultimate favour for her best friend. But as often happens in life things don't go quite as smoothly as planned, leading the two women on a journey that tests their friendship and teaches them surprising things about themselves. Georgie is hard to like at times and I can't say I really grew to enjoy her character. I don't know that she was as fully developed as she could have been, although she was realistic enough.

Although She's Having Her Baby explores the heartbreaking theme of infertility it does so in a way that includes many light hearted and humorous moments. Those who have been through pregnancy will relate to the cravings and unwelcome changes it brings to your body and those who haven't will gain some insight into what it is all about. The description of some of the mothers in the playground is funny but perhaps a little cliched.

All in all this is an enjoyable story with some surprising plot twists that kept it more interesting than the blurb suggests. I will say I enjoyed it more as it went along. The writing is good with an engaging style and the dialogue is natural and authentic for the characters. I also enjoyed the contemporary Australian setting. It is a promising debut for Lauren Sams and will no doubt appeal to those who enjoy an engaging chick lit novel.

I would actually rate this a 3.5 probably.
I received this book as part of Goodreads First Reads giveaways.

I will simply state that I enjoyed this book. What lowered the star rating for me was the protagonist George's voice. I find it hard to get into the reading style where someone says something then in italics you are given some smart, satire comment that is from in the narrators head. It is a normal and authentic way of giving insight into what the narrator feels and such, but for me it touches on annoying. However it was essential to the story and development of the main characters as it represented what her true feelings towards kids and everything that happens essentially. From the start the reader knows that Georgie Henderson never wants kids and her best friend Nina has been on an IVF program for some time. There are subtle twists and turns in the book but I was never surprised, it definitely made the story interesting and not just a straight tale of surrogacy.
As the story progresses I began enjoying more than I originally thought I would and ended up reading the last half of the book in one sitting and didn't keep track of the pages, which for me shows that something is making me read fast, hence I'm enjoying it. I feel somewhat guilty for not enjoying this more as I do believe it will appeal to women, had/having/wanting kids and they will be able to relate somewhat. I did appreciate the Australian references at points as I understood them all and had a good chuckle here and there.

Overall I believe that Lauren Sams is a promising writer in chick-lit, and that whilst I may not have enjoyed it throughly it will definitely find its niche in the bookshelves of woman aged 27+.
