No room in the celestial kingdom for sad singles.
The LDS gospel is all the right things you need to do to have a happy family and a white picket fence.

*Read as part of research into the mormon church.*

There's disconnect in apologetics to mormons because we bring up teachings and beliefs that the LDS church has chosen to deemphasize in recent years that your everyday mormon never thinks about (eg polygamy, king follett, Abraham papyrus). So to fix this problem I decided to read the actual missionary manual. What I found disturbed me.

There is very little difference between this doctrine and the one believed by many americans. Aside from the mentions of Joseph Smith, the vast majority of this book wouldn't raise anyone's eyebrows. All its saying is:"Jesus suffered so that I can be forgiven of my sins, choose to be a good person and be happy; if I'm good enough I'll get to be in heaven with my family." That's what these missionaries are teaching and unfortunately that's what many of our pulpits are preaching.

The true gospel is far better and it's not about being happy or being a good person. The one God died for us and unites us to Himself.
The mormon denial of Union with Christ, Imputation of righteousness, and Triune aseity, has caused me to rejoice in these life-giving truths.

We used the Preach My Gospel manual for our family scripture study over the last several months. While the early chapters were beneficial, the second half of the book applied much more specifically to missionaries, and we moved through it very quickly. I found it much more meaningful using it for personal study the first time I read it, as it was written to be studied intently by a mature reader. Helping children learn from it is more difficult. Still, I think it was valuable to have our family familiarize ourselves with what the missionaries of the church study and teach.

(January 2009)
I read this several years ago for my personal scripture study, reading all the scriptures and doing the suggested writing activities as I went through the manual. I tried to approach it as if I were a new investigator, wondering exactly what I would think and feel if I were hearing the principles of the gospel for the first time. It was a really uplifting experience. This is truly an inspired resource, and it's not just for missionaries!

So, D&I read this in conjunction with our Scripture study when moving out to Virginia and we're just wrapping up. Nice reminder about why we "Preach the Gospel". Because there are those out there seeking for the truth and know not where to find it. One of my first interactions here when someone asked me about being Mormon I ended up getting lost in a discussion about the Nicean Creed. Umm. The other guy had zoned out 10 minutes ago. I think this helped me settle down and just realize answer questions and don't overthink stuff. Also you don't need to NOT talk about your church. It
s been hard adjusting from living in Mormon land to the bible belt. Mormon topics were talked about every day because it was a pervasive part of the culture (50% of the population). Here I've had to dial it back while still referring to real things that are in my life. I couldn't not refer to it because it takes up such a large part of our lives I wouldn't be me without it. So, yeah. That's a roundabout way of saying I recommend reading this.

Aside from the Standard Works themselves, this is the most inspirational and comprehensive Guide for training missionaries ever produced by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is given to and studied by all full-time missionaries called by the Church to serve. It purpose is to train missionaries to "Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end." It consists of thirteen chapters. Perhaps the two most important chapters for full-time missionaries are Chapter 3 "What Do I Study and Teach?" (Five Lessons) and Chapter 6 "How Do I Develop Christlike Attributes?" Although intended as a Guide for missionaries called to full-time service in the Church, every member should read and study this inspired publication.

So glad I read this book! My patriarchal blessing tells me that I will be the mother of missionaries... I figured I better get a better grip on what they will be doing in the field :) Preach My Gospel inspired me in three ways: One, It strengthened my testimony... I love the simple and precious truths of the Gospel. It's good to go over the basics once in a while. Two, it's a great tool for my calling as primary president... so many practical ideas for teaching & reaching my cute kiddos. Three, I have increased confidence in my abilities as a member missionary... look out world ;) I highly recommend this book... I alternately read/listened to it on my iPhone Gospel Library app, and loved it! The ability to mark, tag, & easily look up scripture references was great!

I am so glad I read this cover to cover for the challenge issued in our ward. Nothing I've read in years has made such a difference in my daily life (other than the scriptures themselves.)
If you choose to read it, seriously consider looking up each verse of scripture that accompanies the text. I think that is the thing that enriched my experience reading this the most.
I have to admit, I read this and almost felt mad, though--mad that it wasn't available when I was a missionary in Japan. It is so powerful and useful and well organized. We are going to be using it often as a family.

Mike and I just finished it (we wanted to just read through it once) and we really got a lot out of it. we will probably be going back to it pretty soon to study it a little more in depth. We began reading it in depth, but found that we weren't getting the overall picture/ purpose of it, so we revised our reading strategy. It was so good to get an overall picture and I think reading in depth will be a lot more meaningful now.

Use for personal scripture study. Currently studying chapter 6: developing Christlike attributes. Using it as the skeleton for Fhe each line in the chapter can have a whole lesson built on it. So great!!!

This book could have easily been subtitled, How To Harass People With Superstitious Foolishness. Honestly, it insults my intelligence to expect me to actually believe religious doctrine and it is a waste of a human being for him or her to go door to door insulting people's intelligence.

An introduction to what makes the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints a unique and complete gospel. It strengthened my personal testimony and reminded me how important my baptismal covenants are. The commitment I demonstrated at baptism, linked with the priesthood covenant power was the first personal stitch sewn in a long seam that ties me to my Savior Jesus Christ and my Father in Heaven. A great read!

I'm reading this one morning a week. It involves a lot more studying, pondering and writing than I expected. But I always close it determined to share the gospel with everyone I see. It's so good for me.

This book is a huge improvement of what they used to have. It also makes a very good reference book to study various topics. Several times it made me want to go back out on a mission.

Great book. Clear, organized. A must for any latter-day Saint who wants to understand the gospel as well as share it more effectively. If one applies the principles, it can change his or her life.

If you've ever met a missionary from the LDS church, then they're working from this book. In fact, if you've read this book, it's almost certainly because you served as a missionary for the LDS church or were very close to someone who did. I imagine that the readership of this book among non-LDS is probably practically nil.

Anyway, I did not read it because I'm going on a mission (because I'm not LDS), but I do know more than one or two people who have served a mission. And this basically fairly boring book is probably the best insight a person is likely to get into the experience, without actually signing up to go on a mission themselves.

And well, I mean it's going over much of the same material that one would find in other LDS literature. It is, by definition, orthodox. Its authorship isn't even ascribed at a single individual. I don't doubt that much of it (perhaps all of it) was written by committee. It was interesting to see the messages of LDS missionaries broken down into systematic parts, as well as to see the material organized into lesson plans.

Much of the second-half of the book is given over to discussion of quite technical aspects of mission organization. These chapters will really test how much you're interested in the life of an LDS missionary, but if you get through them you will suddenly realize that you know about LDS missionary life than you will probably ever need to know.

Preach My Gospel: A Guide To Missionary Service by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints my reviews seldom touch on such taboo subjects, but then why not be open minded; you find my ‘productions’ at https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/20...

7 out of 10

This might be blasphemous, thus mea culpa would be needed, along with the spoiler alert, probably implied, I mean, if one says he will be sacrilegious, that means there is a warning there, only this is further necessary since it will not be about the manual itself, just my coming in contact with the missionaries

The stars that this work has on Goodreads indicate that the reviews have been signed by the enthusiastic members of the Mormon church, that used to be quite present on our streets, and elsewhere, to note the positive, this Missionary Service is a wonderful launch pad for…a business career, just think of Mitt Romney
Incidentally – this is how it (does not) works, one idea comes to mind and then digression, like that Orange Fool, who talks about his ‘weave’ – Mitt Romney is one of the last Republicans to stand tall and show integrity, just as that party becomes a sect, taken over by the epitome of the Devil, since we talk religious shop here

Karen Armstrong https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/20... is the ultimate expert on religion and one of the important lessons that I have learned is that we must not take dogma literally, ergo if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints proposes something bizarre, even preposterous we must think of

- Allegory

As for Mitt Romney, I was reading in The Economist about the way this Mormon proselytizing (though I do not think they called it that) helped him, and other co-religionists, become so successful, nearly the becoming the leader of the free world – oh, wait, that is not a thing anymore, since they have elected the Absolute Moron
The Creator of the Middle East Gaza Riviera project, killing USAID and ergo getting tens of thousands to starve, with the help of the richest man on earth, and also a monster…let me pause here, surely it will come back because Musk and his Darth Vader represent Satan in my mind, and they are propelled by…evangelicals and
- Latter Day Saints!

That is clearly one thing missing in that Guide to Missionary Service, I mean if they teach those young people to do a Christian job, they must learn to avoid evil, not help the devil conquer the earth, and I know what the rebuke is ‘God works in mysterious ways’, and you have mean chaps coming to do the work of the Almighty
Except it does not add up, CS Lewis https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/20... is another great scholar, and he would tell you how to think about this, probably explaining why the Mormons and others get it wrong, or this is the case of the Zen Master Story, where ‘we shall see’

I was thinking of Heretic with Hugh Grant, a better movie than most of the nominees for the Oscars this year – say Emilia Perez, The Substance – wherein we have this ghoul who invites two Mormon missionaries into his cave and then we have a religious confrontation, they want to Preach My Gospel, and he

- Explains the main religions

Hugh Grant has tried to ‘find the one, true religion’, studied, looked at the background, inserts the examples from ancient Egypt, India, where you can find the myth of resurrection, and then uses an analogy with…Monopoly and its predecessor, plus some song that was first launched by one band, and then stolen by another
In this manner, we have had Judaism, then Christianity, and finally Islam as great monotheistic faiths, that have such strong links, the way I understood it is Islam took it from Christianity, which infringed copyrights of Judaism, there is the possibility of progress, the new ones may have improved here and there

Nevertheless, what matters would be the belief – this has changed its significance, the aforementioned Karen Armstrong tells readers in her magic books that in the first place, in Greek, it had a different meaning, was it pystios, we could easily find it, but never mind – hence if we see God, it would not be relevant what the church is
Just like The Buddha https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/20... said at some point to the disciple who kept asking about God – ‘you see, you are like that man, hit by a poisonous arrow, who keeps trying to find the village and the man who shot him, instead of caring for the wound’

I came in contact with some nice Mormons, in particular, a couple who worked at the American Embassy and used to be my clients, very nice people indeed, and then there is Mitt Romney, a symbol of integrity, in a cesspool of idiots, the only one in the leadership of his party (now a satanic cult) to see the Orange Beelzebub for what he is

Now for my standard closing of the note with a question, and invitation – maybe you have a good idea on how we could make more than a million dollars with this https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/20... – as it is, this is a unique technique, which we could promote, sell, open the Oscars show with or something and then make lots of money together, if you have the how, I have the product, I just do not know how to get the befits from it, other than the exercise per se

There is also the small matter of working for AT&T – this huge company asked me to be its Representative for Romania and Bulgaria, on the Calling Card side, which meant sailing into the Black Sea wo meet the US Navy ships, travelling to Sofia, a lot of activity, using my mother’s two bedrooms flat as office and warehouse, all for the grand total of $250, raised after a lot of persuasion to the staggering $400…with retirement ahead, there are no benefits, nothing…it is a longer story, but if you can help get the mastodont to pay some dues, or have an idea how it can happen, let me know

As for my role in the Revolution that killed Ceausescu, a smaller Mao, there it is http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/03/r...

Some favorite quotes from To The Hermitage and other works

‘Fiction is infinitely preferable to real life...As long as you avoid the books of Kafka or Beckett, the everlasting plot of fiction has fewer futile experiences than the careless plot of reality...Fiction's people are fuller, deeper, cleverer, more moving than those in real life…Its actions are more intricate, illuminating, noble, profound…There are many more dramas, climaxes, romantic fulfillment, twists, turns, gratified resolutions…Unlike reality, all of this you can experience without leaving the house or even getting out of bed…What's more, books are a form of intelligent human greatness, as stories are a higher order of sense…As random life is to destiny, so stories are to great authors, who provided us with some of the highest pleasures and the most wonderful mystifications we can find…Few stories are greater than Anna Karenina, that wise epic by an often foolish author…’

I've read this about four times besides studying out of it...

I just finished going through this with the kids. It was a great book to read and study with them. We particularly enjoyed the discussion lessons when we studied them. This time through with the kids I didn't read some of the last chapters as I don't think they are as relevant to them right now. But as they get older we will read them. There are so many lessons that can be personally applied from studying this book.

I highly recommend this book to families. I think families would be benefited from regularly reviewing the material in the book. The principles and doctrines of the gospel and laid out in an easy to read formant. Also there are numerous scriptures to enhance each lesson idea. I can't say enough about this book.

In our family when you turn 8 you recieve your own copy of "Preach My Gospel" so each member of our own family has their copy that they study and mark up.

The local Elders gave me this one, said I should read it. It also seemed like the stake presidency used it in all their talks last year at stake conference. It was much better than the discussion from my time. The gospel was explained clearly and it covered most concerns of investigators well.

As a missionary this sets up how you should be teaching and creates goals and standards that should be adhered to. I wish I would have had it as a missionary, it would have simplified, organized, and prioritized the work. It also had a lot of great quotes that laid down the laws of missionary and member work.

In the past I kept reserving this book for scripture reading, but that wasn't actually happening. So I decided to read the book like I would my next novel: every time I wanted to read a book, I picked up this one. I got it finished in about a month that way (and that's with skipping a bunch of the scripture study sections).

And who knew that the book is life-changingly good! It's straight-forward and clear. If you're Mormon and you haven't read it, READ IT! You'll learn a ton and be inspired along the way.

I intend to go back and read the scripture study sections. There's a lot of really good material in there.

I must admit, the way I feel about Preach My Gospel is the way most people feel about scripture. Preach My Gospel is what prepared me for missionary work in every aspect, and being a missionary has been my greatest joy. There is endless knowledge and happiness in this book. And now, post-mission and studying education, I am seeing how much the things I learned from this book apply to teaching in the classroom and not just a one-on-one gospel setting. There is so much that can be learned from it and you can never read it too many times. It is so full of good and inspired content.

It's the best text out there on how to do effective missionary work. That is, except for the scriptures themselves--a point too often forgotten.

Having helped write this manual, I was trained to look for imperfections. But even being a trained cynic, I am still excited about this manual and how it represents an approach to missionary work that more closely tracks the course set out in the scriptures.

A great book.

Good Reference Book. My boys appreciated it on their 2 yr. missions to Germany,Switzerland/Austria. A quote from it helped inspire my painting, which was in the LDS 8th International Art Competition and displayed in the Conference Center, in Salt Lake City, for several months.
As a disciple of Jesus Christ and a convert to the church, I have always been excited to share His gospel. If anyone is shy about it, this book should help.

Completely blown away by the pure truth simply spoken through this manual. They keep urging us to read it and use it for scripture study and oh boy do I wish I had done it sooner! Life-changing principles if applied!

And now that I've finished it I have also come away with a much clearer picture of each member's responsibility to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And how much of the missionary process is meant to help us do that!

An excellent manual that not only teaches the gospel of Jesus Christ clearly and simply, but also has chapters on learning to study, to draw closer to the Holy Ghost, to be more like Christ. It is geared towards the missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, of course, but a lot of good stuff to know for "normal people" too. Lots of space for notes, great reference scriptures and room to add more.

I have learned a lot from this book and plan to learn much more as I study this book in depth on my mission! It's a great tool to everyone whether planning on going on a mission or not to learn how to better spread the Gospel. The thing that stood out to me the most was it's emphasis on how we share the Gospel not to get baptisms but to bring people closer to Christ and closerto salvation.

Wow, the more I read this book, the more I find I don't know and there is more to learn. I have learned a lot from this book how to reach out with God in Love to get to know my Neighbors (you can't Love your Neighbors unless you get to know them though God's eyes) and this book(if done long enough) does just that :) and more!
