Great book! I had a hard time finding a stopping point any time I had to go do something that I couldn’t do while also holding the book. The same thing happened in Harper Hart’s book released, I believe within a day of this one - both have strong witchy women, Stormy in this book and then Ofelia is in HH’s book. Well, enough of that…
I usually get excited when a new release of this series comes out and that feeling of happiness was no different with this one’s publishing. I’d recommend any of A. M. Lee’s witchy magic series. I’ve read most of them and so far my favorite is… oh no, I thought of the Covenant series as my favorite, but then Winchester came to mind and I really love that series too! Ok, if I had to choose I’d say the Covenant Trilogy. I also like when there are crossovers - like THIS ONE!
We got to visit with Bay and Landon, Scout and Gunner, and Aunt Tillie the elderly fruitcake (please don’t tell Tillie I called her elderly because I don’t want to be on her list!) Aunt Tillie is young challenged, not elderly. Lol. Plus, she can kick all of our butts with a flick of her wrist. Mad respect.
Note: In order to not give away who the deceased person is, I will refer to that person as they/them/their, rather than her or she.
Back to the story… Stormy literally trips over a dead body while she and her family are out in the woods hunting morels for her ornery grandfather. She does know the person, but only as an acquaintance. What makes the death odd is that the victim isn’t wearing shoes and their feet are cut up like they’ve been running through the forest. Why would they be running and from who? And why it’s the victim in the middle of the woods in the first place? Is the death related to the paranormal?
That part is suspenseful because I’m wondering the entire time I’m reading what is going on. Was the victim magical? Was the person killed in a ritual? There are many questions and only one suspect to be found. So Hunter is focused on that one person, but Stormy’s suspicions are a little more open-ended.
While all of that is going on we’ve got Stormy’s cousin Lisa being her usual self of vapid and entitled. She’s also a narcissist blaming anyone else for her errors. Really quite disgusting. I can’t stand people like her! Lisa is put in her place by Stormy’s grandpa which makes me smile. I do like when people are called out for their bad behaviors.
There is one thing I can’t stand about Stormy and that is the way she feels about Monica. Another problem altogether. Stormy constantly talks about how guilty she feels about “stealing” Hunter from her. It’s like beating a dead horse. Geez. Get over it, Stormy. Plus, Monica witnessed a magical fight two weeks prior (I believe this fight was in the book before this one) amongst Stormy and some other magical beings so Monica is trying to process what happened and it’s sort of making her become unhinged. I don’t know why Stormy didn’t have Bay or Tillie do a memory wipe on her, but I guess that would spoil the plot of future books! Heck, maybe we’ll discover Monica is magical too!
Ya, so read this because it’s great! The next book will be released in June 2026. See ya then!
