this book just goes to show that you can be in a monsterporn reading group with someone and still not know just what they're capable of.

and THIS is why we don't get up to use the bathroom. because a cat'll just flop down on your chocolate-covered almonds, shove your sparkling ice out the way, and force you to go "aaawwwww!" and stop reading because you need to take pictures of how cute she is.

 photo IMG_5693_zpsrkhq6ukx.jpg

this book starts out as a sort of traditional fantasy-daydream, but then it goes through some very surprising and dark turns. forty-one-year-old beth lowe is a regular woman - bookish, concerned about her weight, a little bored, and in the middle of an amicable, but still disruptive, divorce. she's got a little celebrity crush on roman reed, the lead singer of phantom, whose music is a sort of bonding point she shares with her young autistic son joey. one night, she and a friend take joey to a phantom concert, where they have paid for backstage access, and everything is going well until three masked men show up to kidnap roman in a revenge and remuneration plot. one of the men is smitten with beth's boobies, and decides take her as well, as a bonus. beth doesn't want to put joey in harm's way, to be added to the hostage pool, and since he is safe with her friend, she doesn't protest when she is hauled off with roman.

and at first, it's not so bad, for a kidnapping. she's stuck in a cage with a man she's fantasized about before, and the kidnappers are treating her (if not roman) really well - they bring her toiletries and food and a futon and even an ipod with music she chooses herself. and although she thinks Being kidnapped anytime would not be fun. I'd never read a book where a person was kidnapped and they had a good time. Never had someone kidnapped another with the intent on playing a game of Monopoly. Kidnappings were bad and lots of bad stuff happened while people were held captive, at first, this may as well be a monopoly-abduction. sure, roman is actually kind of a jerk, and she misses joey, and it's weird to discover that one of the kidnappers is kind of hot and seems to be very apologetic and concerned that she got roped into this. but the other kidnapper, the one who loves her boobies, is still a little creepy, so it's not all relaxing.

for a while, the "nice" kidnapper keeps sicko in line, and beth and roman are forced to get to know one another. and a sweet escapist fantasy develops, even though it is in a very untraditional setting. removed from the rest of the world, away from the distractions and the trappings of celebrity, these two people really get to know each other - they open up and eventually there are feeeeeelings. and it's sweet - beth is plucky and funny, and she's not going to let roman reed walk all over her just because he's used to women falling for him and she's nursed her own fantasies. but now that she's actually getting to know him as a man instead of an idol, real feelings can develop, not just a schoolgirl crush. and for his part, roman is discovering the hidden depths to beth, depths which his recent "relationships" have lacked. he even listens to her talk excitedly about twilight for a long time, baffled, but paying close attention.

Hell, maybe I could even get some tips from this Edward guy since Beth seemed to get excited about him. But to me Edward was coming off as a stalker. I didn't have to stalk Beth. She was already here.

Shit! Am I comparing myself to a sparkly vampire? God, this basement is making me insane.

it's funny, it's sweet, it's an unconventional romcom.

but they are still in a cage. so there's that.

and then the story shifts from a romcom to something closer to romantic suspense, where the perilous aspects are heightened times a thousand. and sweetness is left far behind.

and THEN, just when you thought you had a handle on where the story would be going, things go off into bizarro territory. i mean, DAMN. i did not see that coming, and it was horrifically chilling and right now i'm a little scared of sunny. it definitely ends on a cliffhanger, and i'm glad she sent me the second part to this as well. because i need to know what the psychological repercussions of this kinda situation are. i'm pretty sure this is unprecedented.

well done, sunny! you have made love and terror go together like a bird and feather.

come to my blog!

A romance for my age!

Hey there! Are you over 23? Is your gut not molded into a six pack? Are you a mom? Or old enough to be a mom? Are you sick and tired of all the modern teeny waisted heroines out there that fall in love with the big man with the giant dong and then gets swept off to her happily ever after (oh... and she's a ninja too) ? Well, then this is the book for you!

Beth is a 41 year old Mom who is just going through a divorce. Her favorite rock group is in town and she's super stoked to see them. Well, until this ass monkey comes around and makes her great night into a bad night because she winds up getting kidnapped because she was getting her pic taken with the band Phantom and the lead singer apparently pissed some dude off and well.... it's complicated.

Now, Roman Reed is the typical rock god. And he's also for the late 30+ crowd cuz he is also 41. I find this refreshing because the mens that I have celebrity crushes on are NOT 20. I mean... EWWW!!... my son is 17 and that will probably look bad.

!!GRETA'S CELEBRITY CRUSHES!!

But honestly... I have no problem finding 20 year old dudes cute but they aren't my crushes ;)

What I really enjoyed about this book is how it started with action. You don't have to read 20 pages about Beth or Roman's backstory for the book to get good.

It's an easy read, suspenseful, and with a glimmer of romance... cuz I mean seriously.... Beth is locked up with a hot dude that she drools over. Who wouldn't want to try to tap that?

Seriously, why do the good girls always want the bad boys?

This story was a little bit out of my comfort zone, containing subjects I try to avoid at any costs. Regardless of that, I loved it! It was refreshing, dark, and well-written. I actually stayed up late to read it in one sitting, so it captured my attention perfectly.

The heroine, Beth, was different from the stereotypical twenty-something clueless Virgin-Mary-types so often found in romance books lately, she felt real. I admired her courage and strength despite the situation she found herself in–being kidnapped and scarred for life–and having had her share of issues throughout her life.

As for Roman, oh-so-dreamy rockstar and arrogant asshole, I obviously loved him! Especially when he got all protective over his woman, and when he sang to her. Their conversations were witty and entertaining. I also have the perfect casting for Roman all set up... ;-)

What I absolutely hated were the goddamn dolls, because dolls are to me what clowns are to other people. Creepy as shit! I hope I won't hear the world 'doll' for a long, long time!

My only complaint would be that this story was very short and I would have liked for it to last longer... But I guess I have the second part to read, so I'm all good. :)

We finally get a real life woman in her 40's instead of the stereotypical heroine's that have been going around lately.

This book is one that us everyday women can relate to. She's a middle-aged woman with a realistic body type who's about to get divorced and has a kid. I loved it; it's such a change from a lot of the books I've been reading lately. And Roman, you gotta love him. I think this play's on all of our fantasies some - being locked up somewhere with a famous rock-star.

It starts off with action and it keeps that up. It's faster paced and never did slow down for me. Which are the kinds of books that I like. Sometimes you get sooooo much damn back story and details that it just bogs everything down. Not with this one, it has a great mix of everything so you never get bored with it.

The book has a bit of everything in it. The kidnapping and them being held captive, the suspense, rock-stars, crazy people, dark times, pleasant times, abuse, romance, and humor. Oh and we get POV's from both Beth and Roman!

Great length - not too short or too long (2370 on my kindle). It's a unique book and I don't believe I've read any story quite like this before. The ending was fantastic! Be warned it does end on a cliffhanger. But #2 is coming out sometime this month. So no worries there, it will be here very soon.

I really quite enjoyed this book. It was easy to read and I was able to read it in one sitting cause I just wanted to know how their story would end. I wouldn't say it is one of the best captive/kidnap stories that I have read, but it can hold its own. It was dark, intense and refreshing.
But predictable, it is not -> At about the 80% mark, the story got a little...umm, unusual. You're just hit with this revelation, new knowledge on one of the kidnappers that, well, shocked the shit out of me. There is no warning or any hints that this is what he is into. Up until this point, you just think he is dangerous, likes hurting women and wants to get his hands on Beth (the main female character) to do nothing nice to her. Then BAM!

Warning: It ends on a cliff hanger that, in my opinion, will make you want to read the next book.

First off I want to say that Beth the heroine of the story is a survivor. She does anything needed to keep herself safe so that she can get home to her son who is first and foremost in her mind. Later the dynamics of the story change a little with time but I'm not saying any more.

This story kept me riveted to my Kindle no matter what went on around me till I finished it then groaned quite loudly at the fact that it was to be continued!!!! Of course I knew ahead of time that it had a cliffhanger. But still I cant wait to read the conclusion. Taken is suspenseful, with some pretty scary and deviant individuals thrown in. Beware! All in all I recommend this book to those persons who aren't looking for vanilla romance. Definitely EROTIC!

4.5-5 stars - Holy shitballs batman that ending!!! I want to read the next book NOW!!! I loved that this book kept me guessing - was Beth going to fall in love with Roman or was there going to be a twist and she falls in love with her captor Tate? Was there going to be a possible love triangle? I loved the chemistry between Beth & _____. I loved how they were older characters too. And the shit that goes down - poor Beth!!! Craaaazy! I couldn't put this book down. Thank you author for letting me escape in this book!!! :)

“Wow, this was going to be embarrassing to tell the police if I ever survived this ordeal.”

I read a lot of ultra dark stories about abduction, rape and other depravity but none have been like this one. Although there are no fade to black scenes, this book is not super dark. Yes, there is abuse and graphic rape scenes, but the focus of this story is on the captives and the relationship that develops between them due to their unusual circumstances. It’s an extremely innovative story yet unfortunately, it’s poorly edited. Because the book is not formatted, it was often hard to decipher which character was speaking (dialogue from +1 character occurred in the same paragraph). Also, there were some discrepancies. For example, yeh author describes how the female main character was curled up in the fetal position which was impossible considering the fact that she was tied by the wrists and ankles to the 4 bed posts. Aside from these minor details, it’s a phenomenal story and I was retained by it from start to finish!!!

Beth is a survivor, and Roman ... well he's Roman ^^

I won't tell a thing about the story except that it blowed my mind. I'm not sure it's the good way of writing what i felt about this story, but
I smiled, i cried, i was scared and now i need the second part pretty bad.

Dark, Yet Sweet Rock Star Romance!

This was a great rock romance! It was tough to read the things that happened to Beth during their kidnapping, but totally worth it for the great love story! I highly recommend this series!

No one that goes to a Meet and Great with her all time crush thinks she's going to be kidnapped along with said crush, ok maybe in your fantasies, but what happens to Beth Loew and her Rock Star God Roman Reed is the stuff of nightmares. I loved this book, it's dark with some of the most heart-wrenching horror scenes that may have triggers for some, but I never doubted the love that begin in the worst possible scenario. Great writing, awesome song references, amazing friends an adorable little boy and the strongest female character I have read in a long long time and Roman- sigh!! The main characters in this book are a tad over forty and it showed in their determination, strength, fears and ultimately Roman realizing what he wants in life. A rock star book like no other. On to book 2.

Every once in a while you come across a book(s) that just shock you at how someone’s mind (the authors) could come up with what your reading. That was certainly the case with Taken and Haunted. Both of these books should be read back to back.

Taken starts off normal enough. A 41 year old mom and her best friend have taken her 10 year autistic son to a rock concert. They are backstage getting picture taken with the band when 3 masked armed men coming in to kidnap the lead singer and in an unfortunate twist of fate she is also taken. Now even once they get to the place where they are going to be held captive it still seems normal enough and Beth and Roman even start to form a bond both over their situation and also because Beth has to help Roman detox. Beth has struggled with depression her whole life and two things have helped her through, music and reading. During their captivity Beth talks to Roman about both. The author used many songs and movies throughout both books that went with the situation at hand which I thought was really cool.

Now this where things take a sick and twisted turn with the 3 kidnappers. (SPOILER) There are multiple rapes that happen. If that’s a trigger for you then do not read these books. One of the kidnappers is sick and twisted and what he does to the heroine I have never read before and it was beyond creepy. (END SPOILER)

Without giving any more spoilers Beth and Roman do manage to escape but as you can imagine Beth is traumatized. This is where Taken ends.

Taken was an interesting read. Completely different from anything I've read before and I did love Roman and Beth. The writing was great and the story flowed well. My only complaints are that there was no warning of the *spoiler* rape which was to occur in this book. I was taken aback by it, and while being kidnapped doesn't assure something like this wouldn't happen in the real world, a little warning in the synopsis is usually given to the reader. I like to be prepared for something like that, so it left a bad taste in my mouth that I was thrown into reading that. Also the first time Beth is raped, she seems to shrug it off because she was drugged first. There is no discomfort the morning afterwards even though it is said it was painful for her. Being drugged does not make that assault any less traumatic. I assume (and hope) the bulk of dealing with it will be looked into in the next book (although given how it ended, it would be ridiculous if there was zero dealing with what she went through), however in this book it felt more shrugged at. Overall it was a good read which I would recommend to anyone who enjoys their romance with a bit of darkness sprinkled throughout.

This short book was full of emotions and drama, and I loved it! So many of my favorite tropes were included (rockstar, single mom with a spectrum kid, kidnap) that I was engaged from the very start. Something about the writing didn't let me give this 5 starts, but I can't really pinpoint what that was. There is a bit of a cliffhanger (no HEA/HFN) at the end, but I can easily see people stopping at the end of this book and not needing further closure. I however, will be continuing on, as I need to know how things turn out for these two! I am hoping we get to see them together, as well as with her son, out in the real world.

Wow, blown away. I could not put this book down. My heart was racing through the entire book. OMG. What Beth goes through is so horrendous. The captivity is so intense and the bond she forms with Roman is deep. There are some heartwarming emotions going on in this serious situation. There are parts you forget where they are and just embrace their unique relationship. They go through so much....crazy ending. Thankfully the next book is out!!

WOW! DARK! TWISTED! SICK!

As refreshing as it is, to read about a 40 year old, size 12 wearing, divorced mom, it's also a very dark story. The storyline was great, it was catchy and extremely easy to read. Nailed it in 2 hours, I was so sucked into it! I must add, I'm not a big fan of dolls now. And I think I might need to stay away from Rock Star Concerts ;)

Everyone has a celebrity crush. What would happen if you met the real person and they didn't live up to your expectations? What if in the middle of your photo-op, you and your celebrity crush were kidnapped? That's exactly what happens to Beth Lowe, a recently separated 41 year-old mother. She's with her son and her best friend meeting Phantom, her and her son's favorite band. This is her second time meeting the band and more importantly front man, Roman. She met them the previous year and was very unhappy with her body image that she refused to show anyone the picture. This year she's dropped some weight and thinks she looks pretty damn hot. Her nerves are getting to her and she lets her son and her best friend go first. As soon as the shutter snaps, her life is turned upside down. Three masked men swoop in an swarm Roman. She's brought along when one of the guys is drawn to her looks. In the car they learn the ring-leader of this fiasco is Roman's former band-mate, Tate. Tate is very upset with Roman, he wants to out him for his true nature as well as receive a payout that he feels is his due. Jason, the kidnapper that was enamored with Beth, attacks her when she shuns his advances. Roman does nothing and immediately he loses respect in Beth's eyes. They are taken to Tate's house where he has converted his basement to a prison cell. Tate attempts to make Beth comfortable as possible since she was never a target. The first hours are very hard on Beth. Roman is such an ass she cant believe she used to hold him in high regards. She's quick to put him in his place and explain her motives as a fan. Between the kidnappers' interactions and the forced interactions of Beth and Roman, they are thrust into emotional turmoil and begin to understand each other from a new perspective.

This is the first book in the Taken series by Sunny Wolfe. The beginning of the book was exciting then it got a little boring & I actually stopped reading it & went to another book. When I went back to reading it I wished I hadn't stopped cause it had me on the edge of my seat & some really sick shit happened. Beth is a 41 year old mother in the process of getting a divorce. She has a 10 year old son named Joey who is Autistic & they both love the band Phantom. Roman Reed is the sexy 41 year old lead singer of the rock band Phantom & Beth has a severe crush on him. Beth gets tickets with backstage passes to see Phantom & she takes Joey & her best friend Eve. While getting her picture taken with the band three masked men come to kidnap Roman & take Beth along also. They are taken to a house & put in a cell in the basement containing only a small bathroom. The main kidnapper is Tate a former member of Phantom who hates Roman because years ago when Tate was engaged his fiancé had sex with Roman when he was passed out. After catching them together Tate is furious & continually starts fights with Roman so the band kicks him out & replaces him. Beth is so upset about her son & hoping that he is okay & not worrying about her too much & her & Roman are fighting with each other. Roman starts to withdraw from his opiate pain meds & anti anxiety pills & gets very sick so Beth helps him by taking care of him. The two start to bond with one another & Roman actually thinks he might be falling in love with her. Tate doesn't like seeing Roman happy so he does something despicable to piss him off hurting Beth in the process. Eventually they both admit their feelings for each other & then ... BAM some really sick, insane, crazy ass shit happens that totally gave me the CREEPS big time !
