n New Mexico, why did so many dinosaurs die at ghost ranch? The book was based off the scientific process. The paleontologist were finding out what happened to the dinosaurs. It provides great pictures throughout the whole book for visual representation. It is a great dinosaur book for this type of dinosaur; they examine each part of their body, while also explaining the scientific properties of the dinosaur. Their hypothesis was that they died from being trapped in the mud, but they tested it and that was not the case. The next hypothesis was that a volcano killed them from not being able to run away, but there were no silica bubbles found. They come up with many hypothesis until they find the correct answer. They decided that there was either to much water or to little water for them to survive. They are still studying to find better answers to their hypothesis.

Written by Lynett Gillette and illustrated by Douglas Henderson. I purchased this book for more detail on the Coelophysis dinosaur. My uncle George Whitaker was on the team from the American Museum of Natural History that discovered the huge collection of these large dog-sized dinosaurs in Ghost Ranch, New Mexico in 1947. Because he found the first bones on their hunt, the quarry was actually called the "Whitaker Quarry" and the later found Whitakersaurus dinosaur was named after him. The drawings in this book are very good.
