Victoria is passing her days peacefully with Jeffrey and Nonna when she happens upon a woman being chased by ruffians. She saves her, only to discover that she is the body double for the crown princess of Ashbury! With the woman injured and unable to do her job, Victoria willingly steps up to the plate, taking her place and proving she's still got what it takes!
Victoria tries to stay out of sight of the 3rd Order, but she is a bit too skilled to ignore both due to her skill and her inability to ignore those in trouble. So when internal trouble arises in the kingdom, she gets dragged into a troublesome situation, Nonna can hardly stay on the side and her husband begrudgingly accepts it (not that he begrudges his wife the choice to risk her own life, he just is worried about her wellbeing as any loved one would do). In the process she is drawing some attention, and makes some new friends in high places, which makes me curious what is going to happen next (to be clear: it is a one volume story, just curious due to the overall character developments).
It was a fun somewhat quick read, mostly due to its characters that don't exactly fit the mold for these kind of stories and came with some solid character development. Always good to see actions having consequences. Mind you, it is still fairly light on the drama. Victoria and Nonna struggle a bit with the choices, but they do overcome the physical and social challenges fairly easily, so if you are looking for a tense spy thriller, this is not it. Than again, if you were, how did you get to 3 volumes in this series?
All in all, I found it a solid addition to the series and a fun entertaining read.
