3–3.5 star energy: messy, hot, chaotic, and fun — but with a few bumps that keep it from fully slaying.
Double Trouble is peak Bedlam Butchers chaos: danger, desire, and a heroine who’s been dealt the world’s worst family hand. Shy knows exactly who the club’s snitch is — her own brother — and she’s stuck in that awful no‑win space where telling the truth could get her killed, but staying quiet could get her killed faster. She’s alone, scared, and one bad decision away from disaster… so naturally she decides to throw herself at the two most dangerous men in the club. As one does.
Beast and Muscle are the kind of duo that should come with a warning label. Beast is huge, scarred, and looks like he eats drywall for breakfast. Muscle is pretty, mean, and emotionally unavailable in a way that feels almost like a hobby. They’re both trouble, both lethal, and both exactly the kind of men Shy should run from — which of course means she runs straight toward them.
Their chemistry is instant and filthy in that signature Ruby Dixon way, and the triad dynamic has real potential. Beast is surprisingly gentle under all that brute strength, Muscle is a snarky disaster with a soft underbelly he refuses to acknowledge, and Shy is stronger than she gives herself credit for. When the three of them click, it works.
But this novella has a few rough edges that keep it in the 3–3.5 star zone. The emotional beats sometimes feel rushed, especially around Shy’s trauma and the reveal of her brother’s betrayal. The relationship also jumps from “we barely know each other” to “we are now a unit” a little too fast, even for an MC novella. And while the heat is great, the pacing can feel uneven — like the story is sprinting when it should be simmering.
Still, it’s fun, dirty, and dramatic in all the ways a Bedlam Butchers story should be. Shy, Beast, and Muscle have a spark that carries the whole novella, and the danger surrounding them adds just enough grit to keep things interesting.
A solid, spicy, slightly chaotic ride — not perfect, but definitely entertaining.
