The Assassin’s Target . . .

The night was calm with an unsettling quiet as Selene watched the courtyard from the branches of a tree above where the ceremony was occurring. Werewolf Alpha Kieran Blackwood stood in the center, powerful and magnetic. Selene worked for the The Guild as an assassin under the codename "Silver Shadow", effectively dispensing justice. But this contract was personal as she remembered the bitter cold of the snow while she bled out, abandoned, rejected, left to die feeling the mate bond shatter. The Guild had known exactly who they were sending her to kill, yet they had sent her anyway. Memories of the past with him and their love overwhelmed her… then she released her silver arrow. Kieran’s hand grabbed the arrow in the air and his eyes found her even in the dark. Before she could move, he pulled her from the tree branches and threw her down while racing down the tree to grab her by the throat. She wore a mask which hid her identity. She reached for her silver dagger, but without poison, it didn’t harm him. Had the Guild known that? Did they intend for her to fail? He took her to his chambers as he examined her dagger thoroughly. She attacked. He was stronger, but she was faster until he kicked her into a table and shattered glass cut her. In the fight, he saw a scar on her neck… a scar he had accidentally given her years ago. She used his shock to head for the window, but he grabbed her and their mate bond impossibly activated! Telling her they needed to talk later, he asked her to be his bodyguard for now! She had until noon the next day to make her choice. He examined the mark on her dagger, traced it with my fingertip, remembering how they promised to find each other in every lifetime. Selene didn't know the truth that his mother gave him an ultimatum that night: reject Selene, or watch her die. As an Omega, Selene would never be allowed to mate the Future Alpha. So his mother betrayed him, had drugged him and the guards took away Selene’s body as Kieran’s mother laughed. Now no one could use his feelings for Selene against him.

Alpha's Rejected Omega Assassin by Gertty Rudraw? Ohhh baby. This book was like drinking gasoline and chasing it with a match—dark, explosive, and so damn good it hurt.
Let me start by saying: I live for a story where the lines between love and hate aren’t just blurred—they’re slashed to ribbons with a combat knife. And this one? Delivered that and then some. You've got an assassin omega who was supposed to take the alpha out... but couldn’t. And he couldn’t kill her either. So now, they're tangled up in a mutually destructive, emotionally loaded, utterly addictive mess.
The whole "I'll be your bodyguard, you'll be my walking, talking, dangerous-as-hell temptation" vibe? YES. Sign me all the way up. The sexual tension? Off the charts. The emotional damage? Also off the charts. These two were broken, bitter, and bonded by blood and regret—and I loved every messy minute of it.
And don’t even get me started on those moments when they almost let their walls down. One second she’s counting his breaths like she might take him out in his sleep, and the next she’s fighting the urge to wrap herself around him and forget everything that came before. I swear, I was holding my damn breath every chapter.
This isn’t your sunshine-and-rainbows kind of romance. This is raw. Gritty. It’s the kind of love that’s carved out of pain, betrayal, and mutual destruction—and somehow, that makes it even more beautiful. The fact that they still find pieces of love between the wreckage? That’s what gutted me. That’s what made this story haunt me long after I closed the book.
So if you’re into second chances soaked in blood, enemies who can’t stay out of each other’s beds (or crosshairs), and love stories that are equal parts brutal and beautiful? This one’s got your name all over it. Me? I’ll be over here rereading the knife-to-throat scenes like they’re love letters. 🖤🔥💥.

The idea behind this book was interesting enough to make me read it. Unfortunately, the execution left something to be desired, and, over all, the book could have benefitted from a good editor, proofreader, or at least some beta readers to catch stuff like names changing partway in, using the wrong homophone, or parts that contradict previously established events or information. While the author did well at emotional tones, their dialogue was frequently clunky, awkward, or just didn't sound like how people would actually talk. Also, their fight scenes seemed to just be a mixture of verbs and locations. For example, an uppercut is a type of punch, you can't uppercut with your knee.

Getting immersed in the world building of this story is very intense and you can get lost in the machinations and politics of the packs. At times I wasn't sure who was on what side of the fight. Selene has to work through her past feelings of rejection/betrayal as well as the fledgling pull of the mate bond. Kieran -- well, he keeps wondering will she or won't she kill me. Anyone's guess at any given time. It all plays out as it should in the end and they survive to live another joyful day.

This felt familiar but was pretty good in it's own right. Gertty created a super strong alpha pair who have to fight the past to survive the future. It was great to see such a strong female even though she still loved. A good shifter story.

I love me some FMCs that can kick butt as much as her male counterparts and this one definitely had that in Selene. This had E-to-L and of course, forced proximity that was the perfect recipe for sparks to fly from the thick tension between Selene and Kieran. Definitely an interesting concept.

This story follows fated mates Selene and Kieran, an omega and an alpha. It is an intriguing and interesting story with some good twists and turns. This one will definitely have the reader flipping pages until the end. I could not get enough of the story with suspense, ultimatums, betrayal, revenge, love/hate, passion and much more.

A second chance werewolf romance. Kieran and Selene will get a second chance if they can overcome the problems from before and can work together now to solve the problems that have arisen. She is def not the same woman from before. Another intense action packed werewolf fated mates romance.
