This was a good book for teaching very young children about colors. I like that the cover is done in a lot of red so that it goes along well with the title. The words inside the book were done very well and sometimes rhymed which kids always like. However, I thought that the words were much better than the illustrations. If the book was talking about the color blue it had the cats eyes and collar done in that color but the color was not done very bright and the eyes were tiny. I would have liked it much better if the colors inside had been as brightly done as the cover of the book. And also if they would have really made the one color they were talking about stand out as much as the red did on the page. The blue, yellow, etc. were just dull. Still, I think that very young kids learning about color will enjoy the pictures and having it read to them.

The kids seemed to enjoy all the colors in this book, and the art really lent itself to that.

Who Said Red by Mary Serfozo is a concept book meant to be read to young children. The book begins with red and finishes with red, but in between shows other primary colors with artwork corresponding to, and language that rhymes with teaches a number of nouns. The accompanying illustrations are done in a water color style with a very warm and "summertime" feel to them. When landscapes and backgrounds are shown, they are outdoors, mostly on a farm. The text style is a plain font, not large enough for an emerging reader, but for the adult reading the book aloud. The text doesn't interact with the graphics in a way to emphasize the concepts. It will be up to the adult to point out for example, what is red: the stop sign or firetruck.
Recommended if available on loan from your local branch.
Target audience: to be read to children 1 to 5. Copy reviewed was softcover.

Who Said Red? is a concept picture book about colors. The children start by talking about the color red and the things that are red, and then they go through all the colors of the rainbow. It does a good job of showing the colors and giving examples of what things are those colors. The only thing I did not like about this book was that the colors that the children were talking about were not very prominent on the page. Overall, it was a cute picture book about colors.

This book would definitely be good for introducing or reinforcing colors to students because not only does it name the colors it also gives examples of things that are that color. I would use this book in the classroom before I had the students make a book about colors, we could also play a game like color bingo.

A sister is questioning her brother about what color he said. He says red, but she offers up a rainbow of colors.

A fine book about colors that focuses on the color red. I used it for the focus on red, since the WI fruit I talked about at storytime were apples, cherries, and cranberries.

Theme: WI Fruit
Additional themes: Red, Colors, Kites, Siblings

Concept - This book showed only a few of the colors and examples of that color. You could use this book to introduce a unit on colors. It could also be used to show how to make a book about colors and then have the students make their own book about colors.

This book has color and rhyming words in it. It is good for introducing colors to the students, because it gives examples of things that are that specific color. There are several rhyming words in it, but this book should be used once rhyming words have already been introduced to the students.

Goes through colors and lists items those colors throughout the picture in a rhyming patternthrough asking if you said red? The pictures show a boy finding a red kite in the end.

This book talks about different colors (not all). It also rhymes and familiarizes young students with the colors around them in the environment.

What I liked most about this concept book is that its illustrations featured shades and tints of rich colors. There is a difference between a cherry red and a stop sign red! A lovely book!

This book rhymes and teaches colors and the things in nature that could be associated with those colors. I would use this book when teaching about colors and color association.

Funny, kinda ridiculous "story." The illustrations here seal the deal - lovely stuff!
