Note: The decision was made to consolidate all Disney publications under the name Walt Disney Company. This profile is for Walt Disney, the characters he created, and the company he founded. Any questions, please ask in the Librarian's Group.

Walter Elias “Walt” Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon, and philanthropist. Disney is famous for his influence in the field of entertainment during the 20th century. As the co-founder (with his brother Roy O. Disney) of Walt Disney Productions, Disney became one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world. The corporation he co-founded, now known as The Walt Disney Company, today has annual revenues of approximately U.S. $35 billion.

Disney is particularly noted for being a film producer and a popular showman, as well as an innovator in animation and theme park design. He and his staff created some of the world's most famous fictional characters including Mickey Mouse, a character for which Disney himself was the original voice. He has been awarded four honorary Academy Awards and has won twenty-two competitive Academy Awards out of fifty-nine nominations, including a record four in one year, giving him more awards and nominations than any other individual. He also won seven Emmy Awards. He is the namesake for Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in the United States, as well as the international resorts Tokyo Disney, Disneyland Paris, and Disneyland Hong Kong.

Disney died of lung cancer in Burbank, California, on December 15, 1966. The following year, construction began on Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. His brother Roy Disney inaugurated the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.

The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) (commonly referred to as Disney) is the largest media and entertainment conglomerate in the world in terms of revenue. Founded on October 16, 1923, by brothers Walt Disney and Roy Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, the company was reincorporated as Walt Disney Productions in 1929. Walt Disney Productions established itself as a leader in the American animation industry before diversifying into live-action film production, television, and travel. Taking on its current name in 1986, The Walt Disney Company expanded its existing operations and also started divisions focused upon theatre, radio, publishing, and online media. In addition, it has created new divisions of the company in order to market more mature content than it typically associates with its flagship family-oriented brands.

The company is best known for the products of its film studio, the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, today one of the largest and best-known studios in Hollywood. Disney also owns and operates the ABC broadcast television network; cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, and ABC Family; publishing, merchandising, and theatre divisions; and owns and licenses 11 theme parks around the world. On January 23, 2006, it was announced that Disney would purchase Pixar in an all-stock transaction worth $7.4 billion. The deal was finalized on May 5. On December 31, 2009, Disney Company acquired the Marvel Entertainment, Inc. for $4.24 billion. The company has been a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average since May 6, 1991. An early and well-known cartoon creation of the company, Mickey Mouse, is the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company.

Wow, I absolutely Loved this book and Love Mal (daughter of Maleficent ) from Disney's Descendants movie and so cool to hear what she thinks about her journey there at Auradon Prep going there from her homeland, the Isle Of The Lost, since she is one of the villain kids : ) definitely Love it & Love Disney's Descendants movie, Isle Of The Lost novel, books, & Descendants Wicked World animated series which is on Youtube : ) definitely recommend this book and the Disney Descendants movie and series, especially if you love Disney or the Disney heroes and villain characters as its a really cool and original twist on it with some new characters, that being their children : )

loved it. my mom bought this for me when I was very ill. I was close to death but mal brought me back to life. her sweet beautiful purple hair almost made me die again though but in a good way. Ben made me die again too but in a not good way. my mom had to go out in the pouring rain in the middle of the night to get me pink starburts to make me feel better and when she got back they were all soggy and SHe was ill.
last night we rewatched all 3 decedent's movie with my big sis. me and mom enjoyed it but big sis diD NOT. I told her "Hey please try to enjoyy it I'm very ill this might be my last night alive and mom too" but she said "NO. this movie is quite immature for my taste. I will go reread all of Shakespeare and um pride and prejuice and lord of the fleas" She then promptly got up and went upstairs and read all the books she mentined. she's really dumb.
anyways I liked the book. keep up the good work Mal.
i really hope my mom doesn't unwind me and I get dismembered :/

This was a cute, fun book that tells everything that's going on inside Mal's head during the events of the Descendants TV movie. You get to find out what she thinks about her friends (especially Evie!), Ben, her mom, Auredon Prep, her new classmates and everything that happens during her time at school.

I really liked this. Yes its pretty much like the first movie but I felt like I was hearing all of Mal's secret thoughts during the movie. If I remember right there were a few scenes in the movie Mal was writing in a journal I can't help but think this was it. This was a fun read I devoured it in 2 days!!

Essentially a retelling of the first film, but in the form of diary entries by Mal. I actually enjoyed this more than the official novelisation.

Disney Descendants: Mal’s Diary
This was just the first book and the first movie written like a diary. Not much difference. Mal’s thoughts are just expanded. There’s more here about her conflicting emotions over wanting to be like her mother (and winning her approval). But at the same time wanting her mother to invest in her as a person and wanting to choose her own path. There’s also some expanded thoughts on Ben and it got a little annoying at the end where it keeps repeating itself of Mal’s thought (I have to remind myself it’s just a spell). Towards the end its practically on every page.

My opinion is after reading all these 7 extras (except the one I couldn’t find “Royals and Rebels”) “Mal’s Diary”, “Mal’s Spell Book 2”, “Disney Descendants Yearbook”, “Disney Descendants Secrets of Auradon Prep”, “Disney Descendants Audrey’s Diary”, “Uma’s Wicked Book for Villains” “Mal’s Spell Book”, and “Evie’s Fashion Book” I’d only recommend Evie’s Fashion Book. If you like fashion. All of these are just repeats. If you’re a fan of Descendants these might be fun. But if you’re like me and can skip the “appetizers” and go straight to the “main course” just either watch the movies themselves or (and) read the books. And truthfully probably if you watch the movies that will be enough without even the junior novelizations. They’re pretty much the same thing told in written words and to watch it would suffice with these.

This book is pretty much on the same level and almost pretty much the same as Mal's spellbook. We get a lot on Mal's thoughts as the first movie of descendants progresses, but personally, I just could not stand to read all her doubts concerning her path. Even less so the cringey teen romance with Ben. All her whining was actually kind of annoying. Anyone who knows me knows that I prefer the VK's being evil, or at least not so insufferably good.

We do get a small good tidbits about how living on the Isle is and stuff, but meh pretty standard stuff. Things that most fans should already know. Which is why even though I do love Mal and the others, it is angering how they so quickly forget the other VK's still stuck on the Isle. Makes Uma's actions in the 2nd movie much more understandable.

Overall, this book was a disappointment. Full of teenage angst, whinning, and very much cringey and eye rolling teenage drama. Not really worth the read at all.

Actual Review:
Why exactly did I read this book? First of all I wanted a bit of that Disney feeling back AND if it wasn’t obvious enough I had the book on hand. It was a really quick read so I flew by it in just one day. The pacing of this book was a bit fast so watching the movie would’ve been a better choice for the storyline itself. But characters? Ooooh we got a bunch of good emotions in this, I feel like you can see the transition from evil to good (even if it was kinda fast), and I really enjoyed that factor. Do I still think Ever After High is wayyy better? Absolutely, but Disney Descendants was one of my faves when I was younger and you can definitely catch me listening to the songs every once in a while.

Favorite Characters:
~ Mal (of course)
~ Jay

Some Scenes that I liked from the book:
~ The enchanted lake Scene
~ Family Day Scene

I read this book, because i was bored after school and have nothing to do so i went to my book shelves and found this book on floor so i picked it up and read.I didn’t expect it would be that professional!I thought it was just for young kids to read and it wouldn’t be as amazing as novels. However,i was wrong! It was wonderful,i learnt more about Mal and how does she feels. The story was written differently from her respective,it wasnt all the same from the novel,is all about how Mal thinks.Although, many people might not think this book is awsome, but it really is!I recommed you all to read it!

im not sure if this book is for child or teenagers, because it's inappropriate for both

at the first, they teach you how to be evil (not just mean) but in the end, it turns into a very cringe teenager love story

the reason why i want to read this : because i have no idea what and how to write in my diary

I think that this book is really good because it has pages which are not colored so you can color them yourself! It tells the exact events in the movie but it actuly tells how Mal is feeling while the event is happening and stuff it did't show in the movie.well I enjoyed reading this book, and I hope you enjoy reading this as much as i did!
