37-Muffet PT2- IRL: Sela as snow white wakes up in a forest with her mentor. He discussed where her power comes from and the deal with the realms. There are five realms and earth is the gateway at the center. Earth was once pure and peaceful the other realms were not. No one was to enter Earth unless they were the leaders but the devil enters anyway. He is captured but escapes with death by his side. Death found allies within the other worlds to help with his plot against the earth. Sela was chosen as a human guardian/ gatekeeper. Her secrets were kept from her so she would not be corrupted. Belinda is not the same as her because Belinda is part magic realm part earth realm so she cant wield the power from the book. Belinda is an agent of death and was sent to either kill sela or take the book. By Sela sacrificing herself for Samantha, it severed the hold Belinda had over her and that is why she tried to kill Sela. Sela must continue guiding people who will help with the soon oncoming battle. Sela will also have a role in the battle and the fate of the realms and the world itself.
38- Lion Mouse- IRL: Sela's book worked for good this time.
39- Scorpion Frog- IRL: a girl trusts her bad friend for the last time, the house almost burns down with the kids she was babysitting, and realizes people cant turn their true nature. Sela wonders if she can trust Belinda again after all the times she was "stung" her. She tells Belinda she will try to help her change but is very cautious. Ends with death holding a timepiece.
40-Goose Golden Egg- IRL: A brat uses her rich dad for all his money, doesn't care about anything, ignores her maid (Sela), and steals money from her dad once she is cut off. She goes out on a yacht driven by Belinda, she goes for a swim and is eaten by sharks because Belinda doesn't help her. "Those who have plenty want more and so lose all they have."
41-Dantes Inferno- IRL: Mercy from the King Midas is back. She is a hitman still who is being haunted by the little girl she murdered in King Midas. She figures out Belinda has a hit out for her and Sela says she can help her. She takes her back in time and Mercy does not kill the little girl or her dad. In the end, Mercy kills herself and death is mad because the little girl ghost is no longer with her.
42-Baba Yaga- IRL: Alexxa, the guardian before Sela, was being hunted by Baba Yaga and her three knights (red, white, black). Alexa tries to fight back with creatures from the book but fails. Alexxa makes it back home just in time to tell Shang and Shang says pass the book on to Belinda. Ends with Belinda getting in a limo with Baba Yaga who promises her they are going to get revenge.

Grimm Fairy Tales Vol 7
Issue 37 Little Miss Muppet Part 2
PLOT: It's hard to tell the timeline but maybe Sela is dreaming this. It says it takes place before 30. So she's remembering? Or we're being given background. I'll go with the first. Miyagi and the Green Fairy tell her (her) real purpose and one last story. It goes like this. In the beginning, 4 realms were created and then there was Earth. Earth being the center of all the power and magic. But no one could cross to Earth but the appointed Guardians of the other realms. There was an evil entity who didn't agree and came and went as he pleased. Until he was caught, but he escaped, and built a following on Earth. He begin to spread his discord to all the realms, starting with the easiest target but although he got a foothold in Earth he could never fully conquer it because of hope. Sela's purpose is to be the Guardian of the Gateway to Earth. But Belinda will be the opposition. We learn Belinda is the Devil's agent sent to steal her book and kill her off. There isn't a lot of time before there will be a big battle and Sela's part in it is major.

MY THOUGHTS: I think this was the best issue yet for the ongoing issues! Not only do we get the background story in full but we get a clear purpose for Sela and Belinda. I'm not sure though where the story of Miss Muffet comes into play tho. Not even symbolically. Tho I guess Belinda could be the spider that's trying to frighten Sela off and have her go away so she can carry out her evil on Earth and gain control of the book.

RATING: 10

Issue 38 The Lion and the Mouse
PLOT: A street kid is encouraged by a man passing by not to fight and instead gets him involved in boxing. Twenty years later he's undefeated and about to fight his last big match. But his shoulder is damaged. Despite other people in his ear to man up and that the show must go on, he decides to put the match off for another time. Good for him bad for the debt collectors who come to take it out on the man who encouraged him all those years ago. He was supposed to make him forfeit and lose. A ring girl (Sela) drops a book after he overhears a part of the confrontation and is just about to go ahead with the fight. The story is about the Lion and the Mouse. Briefly, a mouse helps out a lion whose trapped by opening the cage. Later the lion sacrifices his own life when some lions he knows come after the house. The guy decides to fight in honor of the man who saved his life.

MY THOUGHTS: I thought this story was about to take a crazy unexpected twist at the end and turn into The Lion King, I think that considering how the same guy that encouraged his career tried to throw it because he wasn't smart enough not to get in over his head the fighter puts aside his anger and has the strength to fight not only the fight but for the guys life. I know guys who will out of anger not even with a mistake you've made walk out on you without a second thought. Where's Sela and her book then when you need her huh?

RATING: 5 The Lion and the Mouse while not the most popular tale shows that you shouldn't underestimate the little guy and that you have to be careful what you say and how you treat people you consider "beneath" you because you just never know one day. The modern story really all that interesting. It ended on a high note with the boxer taking the higher ground but otherwise, it was drab.

Issue 39 The Scorpion and the Frog
PLOT: After some years and a falling out, two old friends reunite. While the cause isn't told we can figure out that Janine is a user and bad news. She's been in a toxic relationship with a guy named Brad and they've broken up. After a conversation, it looks like she's still got her skills of deception because she talks Di into letting her stay with her a month. Di is still unsure if she can be trusted but allows her to watch the kids while she goes out to shop for an outfit for a date and then to go on the date. While just as suspected Janine is on the phone with the ex-boyfriend drunk and making plans. We see a fire start. Sela bumps into Di and tells her the story of the Scorpion and the Frog. In this story, the Scorpion (much like Janine) tricks the Frog into swimming her across the lake and then eats him (her). Because "It's in its nature". Realizing something Janine rushes home just in time to save the kids and Sela saves Janine. She starts to think back to meeting Belinda and all the times she has been fooled herself. Then thinks even though Miyagi is certain it won't happen again she's not. She also gives some thought to what could he have meant that she's from two worlds.

MY THOUGHTS: Never fall under the sting of a scorpion because they NEVER change. YEAH! I once knew a scorpion. He'd leave. Then come back. Leave then come back. BUT the good thing about scorpions is once you finally get it, that's it! I think the only reason Sela has fallen prey to Belinda is because of the repeated memory wipe OVER and OVER and OVER! But I believe Miyagi this time. As for the story, it was short, sweet, and to the point. It put the lesson in your face point blank. And unlike some of these tales, this one fit perfectly with what was happening in the story and on the outside CLEARLY. As well as Sela's situation. It was nice and neatly done.

RATING: 8

Issue 40 The Goose That Laid The Golden Egg
PLOT: Julian, spoiled, rotten, wealthy princess of a tycoon father. It opens with her on a boat in Australia, about to take a dip. We don't see the captain but she tells them not to "accidentally" leave her. The story up until this point is Jilly's father gives her everything but all she does it fuck up. An example he buys her a new car and she crashes it into an empty school bus not long afterward leaving her and a friend in the hospital. Jilly's maid "Sela" shows her the story of The Goose Who Laid The Golden Egg. We've all heard it. A poor (yet happy) couple finds a goose who lays them a golden egg. But their greed grows with each egg and they begin to spend more and more until it's all gone and the gold runs out. In desperation, they kill the goose but find nothing. Jillian pretends to get it and promises to change. But that probably last about as long as one good day. Sela sees this and goes to the "source". The source being the Dad who promptly cuts off Jilly's credit cards. Jilly heads off to "teach her Dad a lesson" but when swimming gets attacked and killed by a shark. As it happens and she calls out she's learned her lesson about taking her Dad for granted we see that it's not Sela whose the captain but Belinda who just looks on as it happens saying "I think you have the wrong person."

MY THOUGHTS: Now this is no means the first time I've seen Belinda at the scene of an "accident" but this one shocked me the most. I think because while she's done the influencing she usually distances herself from the actual carrying out of the murder. In this one, she just sits there calmly allowing it to happen right in front of her without doing a damn thing. That's .. COLD even for the Snow Queen. Or is it fitting for the Snow Queen? YES! Jillian is a brat. Probably more than half of kids who parents have wealth probably are but for her to go out like *that*. This one even though I didn't like Jilly she's already being taught the lesson. I didn't see how it served Belinda of having her die like that and then to say "Your mine now." So is she going to turn her into another one of her minions in exchange for saving her life?

RATING: 6

ISSUE 41 DANTES INFERNO
PLOT: Merci Dante has returned! And what a return it is! We learn that Mercy Dante (much like the man she killed Frank) has become a hit woman and is being haunted by her first kill (Franks daughter Trish). Mercy does what she's paid to stoically. She's long since lost any desire for her own life. As she even thinks of letting herself get taken in when she takes out the first target in the issue. Of course, you can't make a kill without making a few enemies in the process so what goes around comes around. Mercy has a hit out on her own life. Going to the man she thinks responsible he tells her of two women Belinda (who is the one calling the assaults for some unknown reason) and Sela who lives message to meet up with Merci. Merci and Sela meet up and she promises to help Merci atone and stop Trish from haunting her. She takes her back to the day in the warehouse where he kills her. Only this time she lets her go. Although this will fix one problem Merci knows she has a long way to go to atone for all the life's she's taken. Sela puts the gun to her chin and pulls the trigger. The site is then visited by the Grimm as Sela walks calmly away saying Merci isn't the only one that has plans.

MY THOUGHTS: SAY WHAT? I somehow don't think this is Sela. Well, not this version. There's no leather so this isn't BAD ass Sela. Though wouldn't it be awesome if she returned? And by the way is Merci Dante not the most wicked name for an assassin? Now I kinda want to skip immediately ahead to her mini-series. (Groaning) How far down the line is that? The plot was good. It had background AND action. Though I did wonder why Frank was paid to take out Merci's parents and who had it out for them and what they'd done to deserve it whether rationally or irrationally. But this was a REALLY GOOD ISSUE! The end left me like WOW! Your gonna end it THERE?! But eagerly anticipating the next issue featuring Merci because if there's a mini-series she's by no means dead.

RATING: 10

GRIMM FAIRY TALES ISSUE 42
PLOT: Baba Yaga is an evil witch who eats (children?). But since there aren't that many around she eats hunters & hangs their head on her post. But now the time has come to go after her number one enemy (Alexa). So she gathers her 3 horsemen and almost gets her but someone how Alexa manages to escape. But not before passing her book to Sela. Meanwhile, Baba Yaga sends for Belinda and the two join forces.

MY THOUGHTS: I liked the introduction of Baba Yaga, but here's what I don't understand. We see her INCHES away from Alexa. She hits her in the back with a spell. BUT Alexa somehow runs off and she LETS her. She's right THERE! Talk about a wasted opportunity. I guess men aren't the only ones that enjoy the chase. This reads as a prequel because it shows how Sela got chosen to be the keeper of the book. Which is always a plus. And it leaves us with a cliffhanger. Who is this "person" that ties Belinda and Baba together and what do they plan to do to him? I feel like I know the answer to this.

I have to say that I really and truly enjoy Zenescope's series Grimm Fairy Tales and and all the various spinoffs (Neverland, Piper, etc). Unless something major happens I will continue to follow this series. My one and only gripe with it is the unnecessary and gratuitous sexuality and objectification of women within the pages. It truly has no place within the story. Now I am by no means a prude but they don't even try to give it purpose. They are no better than the creators over at the bigger publishers (Marvel, DC). This is why this series will never reach the greatness that is Bill Willingham's Fables. Nothing is done without purpose. And he knows that his story is so good that he doesn't need clichéd tropes like massive mammaries and barely there clothing.

So much happens in this volume! We get the back story of Sela's powers and how she got them, what the realms are and how they influence Earth, who the mysterious "Old Man" is, the re-introduction of Mercy Dante, and of course ! This one had me from start to finish and I couldn't put it down. I can definitely tell the writer's have their flow and know the direction of the story now because they grab you and don't let go until the end. But I do have to say, these cliff hangers! Dude! I have no idea how I was able to wait between volumes with these cliff hangers! s glad I own them now and can binge through them at my own pace.

It feels like the average quality of these issues is improving, but unlike the Pinocchio story from the previous volume, there aren't any particular stand outs that elevate this volume. The pace of the lore progression continues to be fairly slow, and while they're starting to be forced to branch out into more obscure fairy tales, the real world to fairy tale world parallel story telling is about the same as it has been from the beginning: more morality play than worldbuilding.

This one could have been way much better, but it still sets the ground for greatness about to come (hope I'm right.) I don't know, this volume was strage in a not-so-good sense. Let's see what happens next, anyway.

I'm finding it interesting how Wonderland, Oz and Neverland all come in in this as well. It's still got a lot of fan service but at least the plots are getting a bit more coherent now.

The first story is about Little Miss Muffet, who happens to be Sela. Sela's mentor talks to her about where her powers come from, and how there are five realms; one of magic, one of dreams; one of wonder and imagination; one of virtue and hope, and the Earth.

He also explains about evil and the fights against the realms led by the evil beings who want to take over the Earth.

The Lion and the Mouse is the second story and is about a guy who becomes a fighter through the power of evil but eventually realizes what he has done.

The Scorpion and the Frog is the next story, and is updated. It also ties in Sela and Belinda, and how Sela has been duped just like the frog.

The Goose and the Golden Egg is the next story and is about a daughter who is greedy despite all her father has done for her. She pays the price for her greed.

Dante's Inferno prelude is next about a woman who kills people. It's the prelude to the separate book Inferno. Then there's a story about Baba Yaga and how the book was passed down to Sela. The Collection is a short story, and then there is the cover gallery section.

Another nice part Fairy tales re-imagined and with a fair bit of twist thrown in the mix. I love this series.

My dream of being a writer is realized and I am now a Goodreads Author. I have always loved comics, and I hope that I will always love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics or Diamond Comics or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on the international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics I can. I Love comics to bit, may comics never leave my side. Doga is one of my most favorite character and I love him to bits and don't leave any chance to devour any of his stories. So here goes again my mission to read as many Raj comics from the beginning. My childhood re-run. I love reading this and more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.

Awesome. Volume 7 sees more back story being filled up, providing concrete explanations for Sela and the role of her powers.

The individual stories each time around primarily deals with three themes - Sela + Belinda, Sela's back story, or a set up for some future conflict as a result off Sela's back story. There's a distinct growth of a sort in that these stories are now bigger than just the individual humans that Sela was typically saving before.

The artwork is still pretty good, continuing on the quality of volume 6. Lots of skin obviously, that being one of the central themes of the series.

Overall, I wouldn't say that the unfolding back story and hidden worlds are great; they're adequate, just not particularly engaging for me. Still, it's at least interesting enough for me to want to see what else unfolds.

More of the same :) However more and more of the backstory tying it all together is showing and becoming the dominant plot-line. I suppose there are only so many fairytales to write about. The artwork is here and there depending on who the artist is for each chapter.

This series has always been fun. But, now that there is a plot, it is also engaging.
