Imagine this--you are walking on a dirt road in the humid Caribbean air. You’re strolling along a dirt road and see a face everywhere in Jamaica, on cups, walls, and even a statue of the man with the long dreadlocks. Also, you hear a sound that is so pleasant and the lyrics have such a good meaning as well. Who could this man be? Maybe the most famous man ever to come out of Jamaica, Bob Marley.

The book I read was Reggae Poet: The Story of Bob Marley by Calvin Craig Miller. This book is about Bob Marley and his rise to fame. Bob Marley was born in Nine Miles, Jamaica. As a kid, his dad took him to Kingston with him. Later on, he was taken back Nine Miles with his mother. As he got older, he came to the US to live with his mother. If you want to know what goes on next in Bob Marley’s rise, read this book. This book has great information about Bob Marley. I picked this book simply because I knew briefly about Bob Marley and wanted to know more about him. If you like biographies, this would be a good book to read, because it tells you about an iconic legend such as Bob Marley and all the major impacts he made on Jamaica and the world.

After reading the following story, I understood the life of Bob Marley and what struggles he had went through. At the beginning of the book, it explains who Bob Marley's parents were and how he was raised in poverty. The story discusses how Bob Marley became religious with Rasta, and how the religion benefited Jamaica. As Bob Marley grew up in Jamaica, he met two friends, Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh. As they grew up, they formed their own band called "The Wailers." The middle of the story discusses how the Wailers producer payed half of what they had earned, and how Bob Marley meets a woman named "Rita". Towards the end, Bob Marley faces a struggle with skin cancer and was shot in his own home. Although he was injured, he still performed. At the end, it talks about Bob Marley's death, and how he impacted the world.

Picked this one up at the EHS library. Although written for the younger, non-literary set, it was a good overview of his life. It left me wanting to know lots more.
