අනුරාධපුරයෙහි හා පොළොන්නරුවෙහි නටඹුන් වස්තු අවුරුදු කිහිපයක් තිස්සේ නැරඹීමෙන් හා විමසීමෙන් රැස්කරගත් ප්‍රත්‍යක්ෂයන්හි පිහිටා සිය කල්පනාව හා ප්‍රතිභාව මෙහෙයා මාර්ටින් වික්‍රමසිංහයන් විසින් කළුනික සෙවීම රචනා කොට ඇත. අතීතයේ මෙරට විසූ ක්ෂත්‍රියන්ගේත් පොදු ජනකායගේත් ජීවිතය හා සමාජය විවරණය කරන මෙම ග්‍රන්ථය මඟින් පුරාවස්තු අරභයා ද ඉදිරිපත් කරන තොරතුරු සිත් ගන්නා සුලු ය.

වික්‍රමසිංහ අපේ අතීතය හැදෑරුවේ නටබුන් සමාජයක් අනුකරණය කිරීමට රුකුල් දෙන්නට නොව අප සංස්කෘතියේ මුල් බැස ඇති හරයන් පෙන්වා දී වර්තමාන සමාජය මානව භක්තියෙන්, ස්වාධීන චින්තනයෙන් හා නොවහල් ජීව ගුණයෙන් පෝෂණය කරනු පිණිස ය.

කළුනික සෙවීම නවකථාවක් මෙන් නවතාවයෙන් කියවා රසවිඳිය හැකි ග්‍රන්ථයක් ද වෙයි.

Martin Wickramasinghe’s vision was primarily nurtured in the tolerant, humane, realistic attitude to life traditional to Buddhist folk culture. He valued the intellectual freedom and independence inspired by the Buddha’s ‘Kalama Sutta’ which he saw as a tradition to question tradition, not unlike the Western scientific attitude. Through his writings, he consistently opposed dogmatism, casuistry, elitism, and oppression in any form, be it cultural, religious, political or social.

His works have been translated and published in English, Hindi, Tamil, Russian, Chinese, Romanian, Dutch, German, French and Japanese languages.

කළුනික සෙවීම බුද්ධිය කළඹන්නෙකි. එය ඕනෑම කෙනෙකුගේ හිස තුළ ඇති විචාරාත්මක පතාක යෝධයා නමැති කළුනිකය සොයන්නට උසි ගන්වන්නකි. මෙහි එන ජීවන විචාරය මෙන්ම ලංකාවෙි ඉපැරණි චිත්‍ර හා ඇඹීම් පිළිබඳ මෙරට හා පිටරට උදෘතයන්ද දක්වමින් ඊට තම පර්යේෂණයේ අදහස් ද එක් කරමින් ලිවීම වික්‍රමසිංහයන් තුළ ඇති පුළුල් අවබෝධය හොඳින් දක්වයි. චිත්‍ර කලාව විභාගයට නොව සිත් කැමැත්තෙකින් කරන්නෙකුට මින් ලැබිය හැකි දැනුම අපරිමාණය.
