I live a perfect life. A perfectly, imperfect, suffocating life.
Or I did, until I met Blake Travers—the tortured bad boy with the painful past I can only glimpse.
But there’s just something about him that makes me yearn to break free and embrace the hurricane that is him. I need to know him, I can’t stay away. He makes me feel, he makes me want, me just . . . makes me.
~~~~~
I’ve always known what I am. I’ve been branded, stained, my entire life.
Hopeless, lost, angry down to my core.
Until I met Delilah. A tiny piece of perfect in my messed up world.
I’ll do anything to touch her, hold her, keep her . . . but it’s impossible.
I’m a lost cause.
Sweet story of first love. Blake and Delilah are high school seniors, both just counting down the days until graduation. From the outside they couldn't be more opposite- he's the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks, she's the princess from the perfect family. But appearances can be deceiving and that's definitely the case when it comes to these 2.
I really enjoyed this quick read. Both Delilah and Blake are just looking for acceptance, and they find it in each other. Og course the path of true love never runs smoothly, but I was glad there wasn't a lot of angst and drama to their story, even with the interference from Delilah's father. Every once in awhile it's nice to read a book that just makes you feel good inside, that leaves you with a happy out-look on life, and that's how I felt when I finished this one. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series, although the follow-up to Blake and Delilah's story sounds like it may be a little more angsty than this one, we shall see!
Burnout by Shauna Allen
Delilah is the perfect princess daughter of the town’s sheriff, her father, and a judge who is her mother.
Blake is a bad boy grease monkey from the wrong side of town with an alcoholic father, an older brother who is in prison, and a mother who is an angel in heaven.
Delilah craves unconditional love and acceptance, but can’t get it from her family, so she turns to Blake. Blake doesn’t think he deserves unconditional love because of the way his life has gone.
Can these two get past all the ugliness in their lives and find true, unconditional love together?
Shauna Allen does it again with this first installment Prequil in her new Jack Em Up series. This book was so good! It had me laughing in places, crying in others and really feeling for the characters and what they were going through. It was truly a well written story and I can't wait for the series to continue.
I do not know what I was expecting but it sure wasn’t this, Shauna has a wonderful talent of bring a story to life. This is prefect start to her Jack 'Em Up series. I love Shauna style of writing she gets right to the heart with believable characters that you will love. This series starts out with young love that have the cards stack against them. One well to do young lady and one bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks. Shauna reminds us that there is nothing that can’t be worked out if you want it bad enough, love does make the world go around but only if you love enough. Can to people from different sides of the road pull together to fight for the one thing they both believe in, their love or will things and life pull them apart?
The world seems to be against Blake, his father runs to the bottle to try to drive away the thoughts of his dead wife who he can’t live without. His brother is in jail for abusing his girlfriend and almost everyone thinks he is trash. The one girl in the whole school that is way out of his league is about to show him what he is missing. In his eyes she is a princess who he would give anything to make her his. Things happen that puts her right in his sights and he isn’t letting go. Then life gets in the way and it tears them apart….
Delilah has the perfect life at least from the outside looking in. For her life isn’t so great she isn’t happy. Things happen that puts Blake right in her sites and life will never be the same for her again. Maybe a bad boy is just what she has been waiting for. She falls hard and there are issues, will she be left standing as she watches him walk away.
This is a hard story for me to review without giving the story away. I will say this Shauna has wonderful writing talent that bring the story to life. You feel like you are a part of the story, she touches on serious issues that will make your heart sink and then she lifts you up again to bring you right down. This is one story that you will not want to put down. It is just a wonderful read of young adult love. I did expect this series to be about older people but this was a wonderful story of first love in their senior year of high school. It is a very touching pretty clean read that will make you remember your first love and wonder what if. With Shauna style of writing she has you laughing one minute and almost in tears the next just to turn around a bring a smile to your face. I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for us with her Jack 'Em Up series. One thing for sure you can’t go wrong with a Shauna Allen story is and will always be one of my favorite authors. I see her name and just know it is going to be good and she hasn’t let me down yet. If you are look for a wonderful first love read with lots love put into it this is the story for you.
Ahh teen angst. Blake and Delilah to outsiders could not be more different. But being rich or poor does not define how you feel and these two both share the common feeling of being disappointed by their parents. Blake has been given a few raw deals in his life. After his mother died both his father and older brother went down the wrong roads. His father is an abusive alcoholic now and his brother is serving time in prison. Blake wants so much more out of life but he is letting the past mess with his self esteem making him feel he is worthless. There is one thing that makes him happy that he is good at and that is working on cars. He’s also had his eye on a pretty girl in class but knows she is far out of his reach. Or so he thinks.
Delilah’s family started off reasonably normal until her father become Sheriff and her mother a judge and their greed for power took over. Now they expect their children to tow the pretty little line and be at all the political functions smiling and projecting themselves as a perfect little family. Delilah wants her old parents back – the ones that showed her they loved her for her not as something to advance a political career. She has a kind soul and doesn’t judge other’s by their financial standing.
A fender bender between Blake and Delilah starts off a tentative friendship that soon blossoms into young love. Blake cannot see how the relationship is going to work knowing there is no way her father will ever accept him. Delilah doesn’t care what anyone thinks. She just knows she has never felt this way about anyone before and doesn’t want to lose Blake.
This was a prequel to a new series that is going to be about Blake and Delilah and their friends. We got to meet all of the guys who will be the leads in the future books and I look forward to reading their stories. The first book in the series will be a continuation of Blake and Delilah’s story.
Burnout written by: Shauna Allen
This is a sweet YA love story that I really enjoyed reading.
Blake is a rebel, a bad boy, girls love him, cops hate him and his home life is hell. Underneath that tough guy act, there is a truly sweet guy with a tender heart who just needs to catch a break.
Delilah comes from a wealthy family, her dad is running for office as the local sheriff, her mom is a judge, her sister is the perfect one and Delilah is the family disappointment. She doesn't want to date who her parents tell her to date, she doesn't want to go to college to study what they want her to study, sure her life looks perfect from the outside, but try living it for a while and you would see just how not perfect it is.
Delilah and Blake seem like the unlikeliest couple, but when Delilah backs into Blake's car things change. Blake will not allow her to pay for the damages, so Delilah shows up at the auto shop to help him fix the damages. They both find out that neither one is what the other thought they were.
They face a lot of opposition to their relationship and it would be so much easier to give up and walk away from each other. Check it out and find out if they stick it out and stay together or if they walk away from each other content knowing that at least once in their life they had someone who truly loved them for who they are.
This is truly a sweet love story and anyone with a romantic heart will enjoy this story.
I was offered the chance to review Shauna Allen’s Burnout and I’m so glad I did!
Not gonna’ lie, the first page I was questioning what I was reading because I don’t typically read about high school romance. I continued on though because I’m a sucker for a doomed romance. Blake and Delilah are our modern Romeo and Juliet, the “bad boy” from the wrong side of town (who drives a hot muscle car!), and the Sheriff’s “not so good” daughter!
I loved the couple right from the start! Blake has that unassuming charm that just makes you swoon & smile. He’s great with the words, too! Some of my favorites of his:
“I’ll try for you.”
“As deep and wide as my heart goes, I love you.”
“I’m yours…and you’re mine. There’s no changing that now.”
Yep…cue the swooning! It’s no wonder Delilah thought, “Blake was a force of nature, bound by no rules but his own. How could I withstand that and not get broken?”
Delilah was truly the perfect match for Blake. Adventurous, and not afraid to fight for her happiness, the girl knows what she wants!
“And I think we should agree not to hold our families against each other. Okay?”
“But, Blake?” Her gaze spilled out hundreds of emotions. “Don’t make me live to regret it.”
Great chemistry added to the appeal of the story. I loved the flirting and the raw emotion these two shared! I’m looking forward to reading Crank, where we’ll catch up with Blake and Dee after high school! Burnout was definitely a great start to the Jack ‘Em Up series.
Do you have a favorite author? One who never lets you down? Let me introduce you to Shauna Allen....By now anyone who knows my blog, knows I love, love, love her work! Her latest release, Burnout, is a prequel to the jack 'em up series...Hot young men, their hot cars and their hot young ladies!
This prequel was short, but it was a fast fun read. Reminiscent of many years ago and young love, I could relate
to the story of the tortured bad boy--what girl doesn't like the proverbial bad boy? He's a rule breaker, a pusher of limits a daredevil and his every breath says reckless! He may have a lot of female followers, but he is never worthy of the "perfect" princess and she is always the one who wants him.
Shauna can write the most wonderful love stories where the two converge and find someplace in the middle to learn about each other's truths and secret desires and somehow, it works. Her stories are definitely character driven and that is because we all know someone like her characters, or perhaps at some point in time, we were her characters. I always feel like I lived their romance right along with them.
I love an author who can make me feel, make me laugh and make me cherish her characters and their story. Shauna Allen, makes me feel her stories and I so look forward to this new series!
I loved this prequel novella about what happens when the town bad boy and town princess get together their senior year of high school. Blake and Delilah's story shows that just because you may think you have it bad in life, everyone always sees you in a different light. Everyone (erroneously) believes that Delilah is the spoiled little rich girl, but her reality is she feels suffocated from her perfect parents and perfect little sister. Blake believes he's nothing but trailer trash, but his friends see him as lucky because working on cars comes so naturally to him. I loved this story of how two people find a way to come together in spite of everything working against them. I cannot wait to see how their story continues in the next book as well as the follow up books in the series with the rest of Blake's friends.
This prequel to the Jack 'Em Up series has me wanting more!!
Blake is has the reputation of the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks. His father is the town drunk and no one expects much from him
Delilah is the daughter of the sheriff and a county judge. But she just can't take trying to live up to their expectations.
As their high school journey comes to an end, they hide a secret relationship. But what will happen when everyone finds out? Is she just rebelling against her parents with someone she knows they would disapprove off? What right does Blake have being with her, he's just the loser from the wrong side of town. Can these two overcome all of the adversity and their own insecurities and become a real couple, or will they burnout under all of the trials? Cannot wait for the next installment of this series!
A book about first love. Blake is a grease mon key from the wrong side of the tracks. Deliaha is the perfect little princess daughter whose mom is a judeg and her dad is the sheriff. She can't keep up with her parent's perfect expectations. She wants to live and have fun. She is attracted to Blake and wants to get to know him better. Blake is also attracted to her but figures she is too good for him. Can they find happiness and true love? Read the story today to find out. You will not be sorry. A very hard book to put down because I had to see how it would all end., I loved every minute of the book!
Blake Travers thinks he isn't worthy of much. Just look at his dad, the drunk. Delilah is the daughter of the Sheriff, and she is way out of his league. But Delilah just wants what any girl wants. Unconditional love. When an incident makes their paths cross, sparks fly. Can Blake and Delilah overcome all the obstacles in their way? I absolutely loved their story, and I cannot wait to read more about them in the next book!
I keep saying you can not go wrong with a Shauna Allen book. Burn out was an emotional and great read. The town bad boy and the town princess. They both have their hang ups. At first they both think they are all wrong for one another, but find out they have more in common than they would have ever dreamed. Very sweet read, can not wait for the rest of their story !
This writer always gets my emotions involved. Sweet and hopefully. To know that love can overcome many obstacles is something we all look for. Blake and princess Dee managed this. (I love his nickname) what woman wouldn't want for a guy to be sweet, and loving. He felt unworthy but in reality he had more worth than others. Their story was how first true love should be. Worth taking risk, standing by each other no matter what, and 100% love and believing in it. We face many obstacles some more harsher ones than others but when their is hope, we can overcome them. Delilah was a strong girl, yes she had her weak moments, but she trusted her love for Blake that it broke through barriers and misconceptions, definitely looking forward to what the future has in store for them. They are still young which means they need to grow into their feelings, face challenges, but in the end I am hoping it is everything they deserve.
Oh and I have to say I want to know what happens with the friends. Rach and Micah caught my attention. I am confident her series will be as amazing as her other books. So if your like me you will keep your eyes open for more.
We should never allow others opinions or misconceptions rule our decisions. Going after what we want is what drives us. Blake was a wonderful example of finding the light in all the darkness, and finally ignoring those who did not matter.
So if you enjoy a story with a life lesson, don't hesitate to read this book. Worth the read.
Shauna Allen has delivered again and fulfilled our wants and wishes for another great read from her! I could not put this one down. I was very into Blake and Delilah from first meeting them and could not wait to see what would become of them as a couple. Everyone had this image of Delilah as being this snotty, stuck-up rich girl because of who her parents were but come to find out, she was not what people thought of her at all. She was a normal teenager going through normal teenage deli-ma's and problems with her parents.
Blake was never given a chance to be anything from the way that his Father treated him. With his mother out of his life very early, Blake was left to pretty much raise himself and defend for himself, even against his own Father. Blake was much different that what others thought of him as well. They based their opinion of him off of how his Father acted. Blake was very different from his Father and Delilah brought out the best in Blake. They way that Blake and Delilah clung to each other and formed a bond that was so strong made my heart warm and fuzzy for both of them since they both had a rough time with parents growing up!
The HEA in this book made me very happy!!! I love a good HEA book and Shauna always delivers!! Thanks Shauna for once again delivering a great read. I can't wait for more from you!!!
Blake Travers is the bad boy from the wrong side of town, while Delilah is the good girl, daughter of the sheriff and county judge. Her parents only wish she were as perfect as her little sister. She wants something different in her life than doing what they want her too. So she changes her class schedule around to make herself happy. In her government class is Blake and she seems to be drawn to him. After hitting his car, Delilah offers to pay for repairs but he won't accept it. She shows up at the school shop to help him with the repairs. He is stunned but softens to her and shows her what he is working on. The attraction is there for both of them but Blake knows he is not in her league. He will never amount to anything and never have anything to offer her or so he has been told. But what he doesn't realize is that Delilah sees the real Blake, sees through the exterior that others see and sees the kindhearted, tender, sweet man that she is falling for. Can she make him see what she sees in him? Will Blake realize that Delilah wants him for what she sees and not what others think? Will others, mainly her parents, get in the way? This is a first for me from Shauna Allen and I loved it. I Can't wait for more of this series, Jack'em Up.
Received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The story centers around the young couple of Blake and Delilah. Blake is the "bad boy" with the unfortunate past. Delilah is the "poor little rich girl" caught between her family's life of politics. It is a premise that can be cliche' in a lot of books however not so in this story. The initial disdain giving way to flirtatious banter made this book such a page turner. Both are wounded in their own ways, and these characters really make the reader empathize with the couple. I found myself so absorbed in their "falling in love" phase. There was the perfect mix of comedic edge giving way to sexy banter between the two of them. But as with all "doomed" couples their initial happiness is short-lived...and despite the scenes taking place...I could sense a tension building up that had nothing to do with the events transpiring at the time. Outside influences were due to tear them apart. It was almost a given...but as predictable as it gets at this point...I was just so in love with the couple that I didn't care. I just wanted to see them overcome the obstacles, and get their happy ending. During the end pages my heart was pounding in anticipation. I was outright terrified for these two. Would their relationship finally be accepted?....
Meet the bad boy Blake and the daughter of the Sheriff and County Judge, Delilah. Should be a recipe for disaster but ends up being a beautiful love story. Delilah may seem like she has a perfect life but it is not as it many look. Blake is determined that he does not deserve someone in his life like Delilah but she sets out to prove him wrong.
As usual Shauna brings her story and her characters to life. This is a sweet romance of two high school kids who deserve more to life than they think they do. I loved that Blake an Delilah faced challenges in a grown up way. They grew throughout this story. The secondary characters are also great and I can't wait to see more of them
The storyline was well paced and has just the right amount of angst without going overboard. I love all of Shauna's books and can't wait to see what the future books bring.
I was given this book in return for an honest review. I really enjoyed Blake and Dee's story. It reminded me about my first love. My first love and I worked together, my mother had some weird ideas about him because he was hispanic, not that she was racist in ANY way but she was going by the stereotypes she had heard. My father was great about it. I met him when I was 16 and he was 18. Here it is 19 years later and we are happily married and doing great. Something tells me that Blake and Dee are going to be just fine with their future, they love each other, don't care what others think about their relationship and that's extremely important. If you listen to others, it will never work. You must follow your heart. I can't wait to read more about them and the other characters in the story! Wonderful job Shauna Allen! Thank you for allowing me into their world!
Shauna Allen brings to us her new series Jack'Em Up and in this prequel Burnout I'm sure you will want to watch out for the next one in this awesome series.
Can a guy "Blake" from the wrong side of the tracks, the son of a man that has turned to the bottle than face life without his wife and a girl "Delilah" that had a very good upbringing and life plus the daughter of the local sheriff make a new found relationship work?
No you wouldn't expect it too with this young couple that has family and a way of life tearing them a part.
I received this book as a ARC copy for my honest review from the talented Shauna Allen so please read Burnout to find out what Blake and Delilah face apart and together and what the future brings for them.
Blake and Delilah (who you'll come to adore) have somewhat of a Romeo & Juliet situation going on. He's a grease monkey barely getting by in school while she's the perfect daughter of the town's Sheriff. Blake doesn't think he can offer her everything she deserves but nevertheless... could Delilah be the one to put together the pieces of a life shattered after his mother's death?
I wasn't expecting a YA/NA love story from Shauna but this is one with plenty of depth and spirit. It will break your heart, patch it back up, and get the happy tears flowing before you've turned the last page. Thankfully, it doesn't end with a cliffhanger but I was excited to find out that their story is continuing on with 'Crank' next year. I can't wait to see what the future holds for these two!
Absolutely another great book by Shauna Allen. From the very first page you are hooked. I always feel like I’m right in the middle of the story. Shauna doesn’t bog the plot down with a lot of useless details. I love her style of storytelling. You immediately fall in love with the characters and can’t wait to see how it all comes together. This one had me laughing, crying and grinning from ear to ear!
This is the beginning of Shauna’s new Jack Em Up Series, which I’m looking forward to. My heart went out to Blake because he felt so unworthy of not only Delilah but of any kind of success that might come his way. Shauna tells a story of the struggle of Blake and Delilah trying to find their place in the world who end up finding each other.
Delilah appears to have the perfect life, her Dad is the sheriff and her Mom is a judge. They live in a mansion and she even has her own car but to Delilah, well, she is suffocating. Her parents expect her to behave a certain way and family trips just don't exist anymore. It's all about the appearances. When she backs into Blake's car, a new friendship is started. Blake lives on the wrong side of town with an alcoholic father that hasn't been able to deal with his wife's death. Blake is just trying to get to graduation so he can get away from the hell he lives in every day. Who knew that the Delilah and Blake would truly be kindred spirits but can they break away from the expectations and carve a new path together?
Book Zero in the Jack 'Em Up series is a fabulous start to a complex series. Blake and Dee are total opposites, and as the saying goes, opposites attract. Blake and Dee are very well written, and the secondary characters add a ton to the story. Jesse, Rachel, and Micah all have meaningful relationships with Blake and Dee, and it helps to make up for the lack of family relationships in both their lives. I love the premise of a 'princess' and a bad boy. I had no choice but dive into the follow up book, "Crank" to complete Blake and Dee's story, I couldn't just leave it at the last page. I would recommend this book to any romance lover, it's a great series starter and you won't be disappointed!
I received a free copy of this book for the purpose of providing an honest review. My opinions are my own. This book starts out with the main characters Delilah and Blake in high school. Both of the main characters are easy to relate to. As the story unfolds readers get to watch Delilah and Blake develop a sweet relationship and romance. He is the so called bad boy from the poor end of town and she is the reported ice queen/rich girl. She slowly opens blake's eyes to the fact that they don't have to live inside those labels. I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to others. Not only does it have sweet, young, puppy love, it also includes some material about cars and car repair. There is a little bit everything for all kinds of readers. A very enjoyable book.
Hot off the heels of her Cupid Chronicles series, comes another soon to be amazing series from Shauna Allen. This is an intro into what will be the Jack 'Em Up series. This was a quick fun read that had me hungering for the next book. Burnout follows the budding relationship between beloved town princess Delilah and the resident bad-boy Blake. Can't wait to find out what roads Blake and Delilah's relationship takes in the next book. Highly recommended book and as always a highly recommended author. Shauna Allen is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.
I really enjoyed this book. Shuana did a wonderful job of creating well rounded teenage characters without making them the stereotypical teens that have become the norm.
The 'bad' boy is from the wrong side of the tracks, but he doesn't smoke, drink or party too hard with his friends just waiting for the 'good' girl to save him.
The 'good' girl is the daughter of the Sheriff and County Judge who feels that her life is one big play. Most stories see the 'good' girl crossing the line into being bad, but not in this book.
Two 'good' kids, who in each of their own way mistreated by their parents, meet, date, get to know each other and fall in love.
I can't wait for the Crank!
Amy Blake and Delilah's store was something of modern day Romeo and Juliet. Blake at no fault of his own was thrown into a situation that he had no control over and his father, became a soul-less man that cast a shadow of hate and misery over his own son even though he had nothing to do with his mother's death. Delilah was the perfect rich kid on the outside but on the inside she had her own demons to face. It doesn't matter what side of the tracks you live on, we all have our own demons to face. It was great start to the Jack 'em Up Series. Shauna Allen proves once again that she can write a very compelling story.
Burnout is a prequel to her Jack ‘Em Up series with Blake and Delilah. Blake is the bad boy in school, and Delilah is the rich, perfect girl. They meet and sparks fly but they each face their own demons that interfere with their hopes of a long-term relationship. Things are going well until Delilah’s father, the Sheriff, threatens Blake if he doesn’t stay away from Delilah.
I liked both characters and that they faced real life challenges. Shauna captured the emotions young adults would have at that age. It is an enjoyable story and one I recommend. I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
Introduction to a new series..
I loved Delilah and Blake. Both having issues with there parents. Rich girl not measuring up to her parents expectations... Blake coming from the wrong side of town. A little fender bender brings them together.
It's sweet, cute, and funny. You will laugh at the words Delilah says when she goes to help Blake. She has not one clue what is involved in mechanics, but helps nonetheless.
The more and more time they spend together., it seems they have things in common. Blake sticks up for his girl.
Delilah knows Blake will be there when no one else is. They fit together. He may be imperfect but she needs him.
I highly suggest to read this...
