FINALLY, Ennoshita gets the recognition he deserves!!! As such an underrated character, it was great to see so much of him in this volume as he stepped in for Daichi.

It feels like I'm running out of things to say for these reviews of Haikyuu!! Because I enjoy them and give each one 5 stars every time without thinking because I adore it all so much.

Loved that added chapter at the end with the artists collaboration with the beach volleyball team. Tanaka and Nishinoya are hilarious, I don't know what I'd do without them in the story!

Can't believe in the next volume we'll already be at the Aoba Josai match!! Can't wait to see my trash son Oikawa again...

That bonus story at the end is actually so funny. Also, Ennoshita finally getting some page time is great.

The game with Wakutani continues, but after the team captain, Daichi, suffers an injury, Ennoshita has to step in to take his place. With big shoes to fill, will Ennoshita crumble under the pressure?

Once again, Furudate flexes his ability to write ensemble casts. Karasuno’s second-string players get little to no lines of dialogue and pretty much never play. This volume forces one of these characters into the spotlight, but Furudate makes sure to give him some backstory to gets readers invested.

I liked Ennoshita’s “quitting and coming back” to volleyball B story. I used to play a ton of sports as a kid/young teen, but was never particularly talented. It made it really hard to stay motivated to attend exhausting practices and to get excited about the game, so I completely related to his dilemma. Of course, it’s super satisfying as a reader following his doubts and then watching him succeed.

Even with minor side characters, this series gets me in the feels.

Lol this book made me so emotional. Then the stupid bonus stories at the end were so dumb and I can't wait for more stupid bonus stories. It's kind of amazing how the author can make you feel things for the other teams. Like Karasuno has my whole heart, but sometimes I find myself rooting for the other teams just because everyone has their reasons. Love this series so much.

This counts as my review for the whole Haikyuu!! manga

”You don’t win alone.
That’s just how it is.”

READ FOR: best character developments and themes that I have ever encountered
READING LEVEL: Level 1-3 out of 5

*All of my reviews are as spoiler-free as possible unless stated otherwise*

I don’t think I’ll ever have enough words to express how much I love this manga and anime series but I’ll try anyway. But I just need to make it known that this has changed my view in anime and manga forever. I caught up with this manga in the last 30 or so chapters but I won’t say much to avoid spoilers... but it was crazy.

It made me laugh, cry, fall in love, think, and honestly... what else do you need in a series? I can keep going on and on about this series but honestly I think you should just read it for yourself. I really don't think you'll regret it.

When someone asks me what the plot is, honestly, all I can say is “they play volleyball” HAHAHA… but it’s so much more than that.

description

PLOT: ★★★★★
The plot was so well thought of from the very beginning and when I re-read the manga I can’t believe the amount of foreshadowing Furudate actually placed. My mind was so blown… I just. No words. I am seriously in love.

ART STYLE: ★★★★★
The art style… *chef’s kiss* especially in the later arcs. There were so many matches but even then Furudate never failed to leave me breathless at each one.

description

CHARACTERS: ★★★★★
The character development here is THE BEST. HANDS DOWN. that I have ever come across. I fell in love with the so many characters in this series that I did not even think that was possible.

The character relationships... the character dynamics... their mindsets... they are all so perfectly well done and realistic GAHHHH I've said this so many time throughout this review BUT THEY JUST MADE ME FALL IN LOVE SO EASILY. I can't pick my favourite one but hinata and kageyama just hold a special place in my heart.

This connects to the themes but my favourite thing that was done with the characters here was that each one of them embodied a theme or a message that the author wanted to get across. Those are spoilers so I won’t really talk about it but just know that it was one of the main reasons that made me go so crazy about this series.

*cough* hinata kageyama atsumu sakusa bokuto kita noya ushijima tendou tsukki suga kenma kuroo *cough* +++

Note: if you think this series is focused on only 1 team... you're in it for A RIDEEEEEE

description
I'm getting chills just looking at and remembering these panels ^^

THEMES: ★★★★★
Honestly I basically thought the themes were just gonna be “teamwork” and “friendship”… while it is all that, Furudate sensei was able to make it even deeper.

I think the one that was focused on the most was “It’s not always about winning, it’s about growth”. But there were also so many smaller things that lead up to that bigger point: (1) we get our strength from others, (2) but you also need to make yourself dependable, (3) there is always room for improvement, (4) working hard is good but overworking yourself isn’t, (5) you are built on the small things you do everyday, (6) an ace's back should be an inspiration to your teammates (hi bokuto), (7)+++

The way I wrote it was very straight to the point but I was amazed at how Furudate tackled the so many messages that I received from this series.

description

PACING: ★★★★★
THE TIMING. OF EVERYTHING. JUST MAKES SENSE.

It’s so realistic that I want to cry. (I actually already did… a lot of times.)

description

PAGE TURNER: ★★★★★

You should understand that I made this review weeks after I finally calmed down about this series cuz I was really going crazy about it HAHAHA if you have finished this series too or met me while I was reading this, you know what I’m talking about ;)

I'll keep this series close to my heart until the grave. You cannot convince me otherwise.

That bonus story had me rolling! So funny!

*coughs*

But the actual story was phenomenal! It really is super hard to say who has the most character growth in Haikyu!! because Ennoshita's story was a HUGE thing of feels! What a moving and relatable character he is! In Daichi's awesome shadow and seeing his (Ennoshita) struggle, I have such a new compassion for him!

AND! A pride in him rising up and overcoming! I know that he still feels like a "failure" of sorts, but only if he could see how far he's come! <3

After that super intense beginning with Daichi, this whole volume was on edge action! There is a lot at stake and I feel everyone was pushed mentally in a different way then they have before. It really shows how much of a rock Daichi has been, but also how the team WILL be okay when he graduates too. (Not that I ever want to think about that!!)

I love how Takeru is a personal rival/challenge for Hinata in Takeru being the most similar player to The Little Giant in their prefecture. I feel it added another lay of depth to the story and a new personal motivation for Hinata.

Seeing that ending (before the bonus stories) did make me tear up though. That was deep and it's hard to see these teams loose…

The bonus content this volume was on point. The Haikyuu and Nisekoi one shot had me in stitches, though I also really liked the v-ball card one. Koushi's "Be back in time for dinner" and Bokuto yelling about not being on a card for "reasons" (the cards have official art from the anime on them, and Season 2 hadn't been aired yet by the time of this one shot's release) will always be iconic.

That didn't mean I didn't enjoy the rest of the Wakutani Minami game, which was still just as frustrating and tense as in the anime because man, are both teams good. I think reading the manga did help me warm up to Takeru a bit more, even though both him and Hinata go head-to-head because of their similarities to the Little Giant and the former has more confidence that he will succeed. Ennoshita also proved his game skills when he had to fill in for Daichi after his injury during the match.

Two more volumes to go in my binge reading! I'm excited to see the next two games and get reintroduced to Koganegawa.

Youpi ! Parce que bon, mes petits gars me manquaient.

Ennoshita finally gets his moment to shine. And while Yamaguchi isn't up for it yet, it feels like it's only a matter of time. As much as I enjoy this volume, it does feel like warmup for the Aoba Joshai rematch.

I haven’t been invested in the newly introduced rival teams since the Tokyo camp arc, but I did really like the intensity of their game with Wakunan, and it more than made up for that. I suppose it doesn’t help that there’s a certain direction I’m expecting things to go at this point, which doesn’t always allow me to be invested in the stakes, but that last game really changed that for me. I also like that we got to focus on other members of the team, and the mental strain being sidelined/unprepared for games can place on a player. Unfortunately I know I won’t be rereading that Nisekyu chapter ever again, no thanks.

- Ok finally, we wrapped up the game against Wakutani Minami, now it’s time for the rematch against Aoba Johsai!
- Those extras were weird…not a fan…BUT it is interesting that Kageyama showed no interest in a bunch of girls in bikinis (🏳️‍🌈👀)

this match was a bit interesting in terms of the similarities found in hinata and a player on the other team. i enjoyed seeing some of the bench players play in this game and can’t wait until they show up more! :)

Finished this one in, like, an hour or so. Love this series so much, sounding a bit like a broken record. This is my final book of 2020, reading a total of 50 books!
This volume had an amazing story line, finishing where we left off in 13’s cliffhanger. It also had 2 awesome short stories at the end, which were just fun.
Overall, a great read for the Haikyu series and the final 5 star review for the year 2020!
