MARLEY It was one night. No names. No strings. Just the kind of reckless escape I never let myself have—until him. Now he’s standing in my clinic, smiling like he doesn’t remember me. Which is fine. Because Evan Cartwright is too young, too charming, and way too dangerous to my heart.
EVAN I knew it was her the moment I saw her. The woman I’ve been thinking about for months. She acts like we’ve never met, and I let her. Because now that I’ve found her, I’m not letting go. Even if she’s keeping one hell of a secret. Even if she thinks I’m not ready. I’ve never backed down from a challenge… and I’ve never wanted anything more.

I am not as eloquent as some, but after reading this book, I went on a Kat Baxter binge reading spree for about 12 hours and 10 books. So good, you can't stop! This book is about Marley, who is a veterinarian and Evan, who is a former combat medic in the military and now works at Great Danes Animal Sactuary. Tropes: One night stand, accidental pregnancy, secret baby, age-gap, military veteran, small town, curvy woman, HEA romance!.
A special thank you to Kat Baxter and Booksprout for providing me with an eARC book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
📚📚📚 This was such a fun, spicy and fast read! It’s a short novella but definitely jam packed with a fun time! Those texts were my absolute favorite and so many of them!! Just loved it. Marley I found as a very relatable FMC when reading which I really adored. Evan I ended up loving while reading and he really was such a sweetheart! Overall such a great read and totally recommend!

✨who’s a new author you’ve read recently? Or what’s a book that should be on my radar?
Kat’s books are consistently a pure delight to read and this one is no exception. Evan was the perfect golden retriever hero for Marley. This book was a great combination of sweet and spicy but I was sad to see it end! Can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Evan and Marley meet and decide to pursue each other in an anonymous way. As they part ways they both left with more questions and the want to see each other again.
Evan and Marley are a couple that chance, fate has brought together. She's a little older than him. That doesn’t stop the quick feelings they're both feeling.
I truly enjoyed this read 📚!

Sweet and sassy reverse age gap romance that is a feel good read. Heck of a level of sizzle between these two! I loved how Evan was all in and was willing to wait for Marley. As always the text banter between the guys was hilarious. I love reading Kat Baxter because she always leaves a smile in my heart.

This is book 5 in the Dog Tags series. Evan has been working at the dog sanctuary and keeps looking for a one night stand he had 5 months ago. When he meets the new Vet in town Dr Marley Olsen he knows she’s his one night stand and his one. Now if only he can prove his love for Marley. Fast paced steamy read, well written with great characters and I loved it.

Happily Evan After de Kat Baxter serie Dog Tags libro 5
Argumento:
Ella tiene miedo de caer. Él está listo para atraparla.
Marley
This second chance, reverse age-gap romance had me hooked from the very first spark between the no-nonsense small-town vet and a swoon-worthy special forces medic. Marley isn’t the type to let loose, let alone have a one-night stand, but there was something about Evan she couldn’t resist. That one unforgettable night leaves her with more than just memories... but it also leaves her with a dilemma because they never exchanged their real names. Now back in Saddle Creek, Marley is settling into life as a single mom-to-be and doing her best to forget the mystery man she can’t stop thinking about. As the town’s dedicated small animal vet, she ends up butting heads with the new guy at Great Dane’s Dog Sanctuary over vaccination protocols. Evan’s confused (and slightly offended) when it’s clear the vet doesn’t like him and he plans to fix it by meeting her in person. What he didn’t expect was that the vet was her—the one he’s been searching for ever since that night. And Marley? She runs straight out the back door. From that moment on, the emotional stakes rise beautifully. Evan is determined to prove their connection was more than a fluke, even if Marley’s instincts scream self-preservation. Her refusal to be anyone’s obligation is both heartbreaking and admirable, and Evan’s relentless efforts to win her over—including pitching a tent on her front lawn (yes, really!)—had me melting into a puddle. He’s the perfect mix of protective, persistent, and tender. I loved the hint of neurodiversity, which added depth and nuance to Marley’s character, making her vulnerability feel authentic and relatable. Evan never tries to "fix" her, he simply shows up, again and again, proving he’s in it for the long haul. The tension, the chemistry, the slow-building trust, it’s all there, balanced with just the right touch of drama and spice. Even the meddling brother couldn’t dampen my enjoyment of this heartfelt, hopeful romance. A fantastic installment in the Dog Tags series, filled with warmth, wit, and characters you’ll want to root for all the way to their well-earned happily ever after. Happily Evan After is a delightfully spicy and heartfelt novella that packs a punch, offering a quick but emotionally rich romance set in the beloved Dog Tags world. The story delivers a compelling combo of instant chemistry and depth: Marley and Evan’s one-night, no-strings connection unexpectedly leads to more, with a surprise pregnancy and the push-pull of overcoming past hurts and fears. Marley’s guarded heart and Evan's protective, golden retriever energy create a dynamic that feels both swoony and real. The age gap gives the banter an extra spark, while the novella’s brisk pace keeps every interaction engaging.
Kat Baxter excels at balancing humor with tenderness, ensuring the emotional stakes feel genuine despite the novella’s shorter length. Evan’s devotion—from the very first meeting—sets the tone for a romance that’s both sexy and full of reassurance. Readers who love possessive, loving heroes and heroines learning to trust again will find their sweet spot here.
If there are any downsides, it’s that the novella moves quickly enough that some beats—especially the transition from hookup to something deeper—could have used a touch more time to breathe. Still, the story never loses sight of its heart, and the blend of spicy scenes, vulnerable moments, and playful dialogue makes this a perfect, low-angst pick-me-up for fans of contemporary romance.
Happily Evan After is an ideal read for anyone seeking an instalove romance with emotional payoff, steamy chemistry, and a guaranteed happy-ever-after. Perfect for when you want your romance fast, satisfying, and full of feels.
*spoiles* Marley and Evan do together something what neither of them normally does, hook up for one night with no strings and no real names known. Marley is very reluctant, being older than him, but they have the special energy and bond over their favourite movie the mummy. Evan, a former special forces medic, comes to live in Saddle Creek to help his friends/brothers with the dog shelter. Evan can not forget about the woman and the special night, he proposed to her and finds out his feelings for her are real, but can not find her. He is a person who is easy goig and rarely has problems with somebody, but over text he clashes a little with the vet about the vaccinations for the dogs, he drives to the clinic to meet her and there is the woman he missed for month and runs away from him. Marley fell pregnant in the night she hooked up with the stranger and has no means to find out his identitiy, When he stands in her clinic she runs to her best friend and tells her she is pregnant. Her friend happens to be in a relationship with more or less the boss of Evan who knocks him down for sleeping with a woman and getting her pregnant. But Evan is more than ready to step up and be with Marley and their child. But she is afraid he only wants her out of duty, but Evan is ready to fight for his girls. This story is sweet, sexy and made me laugh. It has wonderful characters and already waiting for the next one. I loved the determination Evan had to show his girl that his feelings are real.

This contemporary small-town plus-size, age-gap, military romance is page-turning with exceptional world-building and characters that are alpha, male, exuding power, captivating, and realistic. Their journey is enthralling with happily Evan after, explicit romance that is consumed by steamy, sizzling passion, lust, desire, and spice with all the feelings to leave readers breathless and begging for more, a one night stand that results in an accidental pregnancy/secret baby, drama, heartfelt emotions, action, adventure, and more. I recommend reading this book by an extraordinary author who knows how to captivate her readers' hearts and attention with happily Evan after, HEA, and an explicit military romance that is sure to transport readers into a world that is wildly lustful and unforgettable.

He was just supposed to be one night. She was never supposed to stay on his mind.
Marley (h) is a neurodivergent small-town vet with a guarded heart and no time for emotional chaos. But one spontaneous night with a younger stranger flips everything she thought she knew about herself. He’s magnetic and bold, and that night leaves her with more than memories. It leaves her pregnant.
Former special forces medic Evan (H) never forgot the woman who called herself "Evie." Months later, fate throws them back into each other’s orbit in Saddle Creek. He’s determined to prove their connection was real, but Marley isn’t looking to be anyone’s obligation.
When the truth comes out, everything shifts. Co-workers. Co-parents. Maybe more. But trust has to be earned, and neither of them does vulnerability easily. One is ready to stay. The other isn’t sure how.
Marley evolves from cautious and self-deprecating to someone who accepts her desires and prepares for motherhood. Evan grows from spontaneous charmer to grounded partner, ready to show up and stay.
Their relationship begins with chemistry and deepens through reconnection and shared responsibility. What started as heat turns into something real.
A steamy, age gap, instalove, second chance, curvy girl, secret baby, small town romance about identity, vulnerability, found family, and the kind of love that shows up and stays.
Happily Evan After is the fifth book in the Dog Tags series. This is another wonderful story added to a fantastic collection which I lovingly adore. It is a reverse age, one-night stand bonus, intense connection, and more romance. Dr. Marley Olsen is a veterinarian who her best friend Lana describes as having "cobwebs in your lady garden." as it has been so long since she has been with a man. Lucky for her she is at the bar Lana works at and Lana is able to spot more than a few men who are very interested in Marley. One is sitting at the other end of the bar and when they lock eyes he comes over to talk with her. Evan Cartwright was a Sergeant in the Army, serving with the other men who have gone to work at Great Dane's Dog Rescue. He is heading there to start his new job with Dane in a couple of days. One night he is in an upscale bar when he spots the most beautiful woman he has scene, one that awakes feelings in him that he had locked down for a long time. They do not exchange names or numbers, instead calling each other Rick and Evie, from their favorite film The Mummy. The night is intense, pleasurable, volcanic explosive with them connecting in a way that should not be. Six months later their paths cross again in an unexpected way. Add in a baby bump, family and friends, a few more surprises and you have a charmingly delicious read.
After Marley became a veterinarian, she goes out to the bar that her bestie works at, Lana. There she meets a hot guy and they go off to celebrate with each other. He calls her Dimples and they find out that they share their fave movie, The Mummy (Brendan Fraser). That was extremely cute, because I feel the same way about those movies. Although it is not my all time fave movie. They decide that they aren’t going to share their real names for their night together. Evan has been looking for her ever since and tried to get Lana to tell him more info, but she doesn’t. Evan then started working at Dane’s dog rescue and as a military medic (retired), he knows his way around vaccines, so Dane talks the new vet into giving them vials of those. While arguing by text, Evan decides to go meet the vet doc and finds the woman he has been searching for. Things are not going as planned because there are consequences of that night. Flynn goes bonkers because Marley is Shelby’s new and close friend. I found the book to be fun, funny, romantic, steamy, hot, and just wanted to snuggle all the puppies (doesn’t matter their ages!), lol. Marley’s 3 cats are adorable. I love them. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Get ready for the fifth book in the Dog Tag series, “Happily Evan After”! Marley is thrilled to celebrate her significant milestone of finally opening her own clinic. What was supposed to be just one fun night of no strings attached turns into a bit of a surprise when she sees two pink lines on a pregnancy test and realizes she has no idea how to find the father of her baby!
On the other hand, Evan can’t stop thinking about the amazing woman he spent that unforgettable night with a couple of months ago. So, he’s totally taken aback when he discovers that the veterinarian who has been giving him a hard time at work is the very same woman he’s been dreaming about! Now, Evan has to show Marley that he’s serious about wanting her for more than just the baby. Their undeniable chemistry proves that they’re truly meant to be together.
This sweet and romantic short story will tug at your heartstrings and make you fall in love with Evan and Marley. It features a fun reverse age-gap (a trope I’ve come to adore!), no cheating, and some steamy moments, along with a sprinkle of family drama involving Evan's fraternal twin (who I’m hoping we get to learn more about in future books). It’s fast-paced and perfect for a cozy afternoon read. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

✔️ Accidental Pregnancy ✔️ One Night Stand ✔️ Insta-love
While this one may be tiny it packs a lot in! While normally I’m not a big fan of the accidental pregnancy trope I thought this one was very well done. The story was adorable and I loved how they met both as Rick and Evie and Marley and Evan. While this isn’t fantasy there was a bit of an underlying hidden mates vibe. (Which if you know me you know I loveeee. 😍)
Both of the main characters were cute and had some very sweet moments together. I’d love to see a future novella with them as parents. ❤️ This book also taught me something in my apparently “geriatric” old age (thanks for that 🤣) there is nothing hotter than a proactive man. Evan is an ex-special forces medic and comes right out of every girls dreams. I’m just saying the tent was a showstopper for me. 🤣 “If he wanted to he would.” I also really liked Marley’s awkwardness - I can relate. Overall I really enjoyed this quick read.
“If I thought you’d agree to marry me, I’d whisk you off to Vegas or Jamaica and make it happen. But I’m guessing that’s asking too much,” he says, “so instead I would take a night. One night to make you forget the real world and let a man worship your body.”
If you love short, snappy, instalove stories with humour and heart—this book is for you!
The story is about Marley and Evan who spent one amazing night together a few months ago. Evan has never forgotten his Dimples, and Marley received some surprising news, but could never find her lover to inform him that was going to be a dad! The universe brings them back together when they both move to the same small town. As soon as Evan lays eyes on Marley again, he’s determined to prove that he wants to not only be in his daughter’s life but Marley’s too. Marley wants to believe him, but she is scared that she is just an obligation to him.
I loved this little story. I especially enjoyed how I could clearly see the personalities and motivations of the characters. It’s extremely difficult to create well-rounded characters in such a short format (trust me, I tried, yet to know if it worked). I got attached to Marley from the first pages and enjoyed seeing her happy by the end. I’d love to see more of her and Evan and their little family after the baby was born, but that’s the job of a bonus epilogue I guess 😏
You’ll enjoy this story if you love: ❤️ insta love 📖 shorter stories 🤰 accidental pregnancy 🏡 found family 😍 curvy heroine
The book is out today! Thanks to the author for gifting me the advanced copy ❤️
Oh my if you like witty ebooks and super hot passion then you've definitely found the right one. I just couldn't stop reading this delightful ebook.I absolutely loved it. This truly exceptional author has written another winner. Marley is at the bar where her unfiltered bestie is a bartender. She points out a guy that's super hot and who's staring at her. Evan comes up to Marley and he's beyond hot but oh so young. She's so mesmerized by his unbelievably good looks and feels an intense attraction. Evan just can't take his eyes off of Marley a gorgeous older woman that he feels a forever just looking at her. He's instantly smitten and will do anything to have her in his life. Their chemistry is boiling hot and their sparks of a connection is unbelievably intense. Will Evan and Marley finally admit to each other that they were brought together by destiny? Can Marley tell Evan her secret and can she admit to herself that Evan is her forever? Does Evan come up with a plan to win Marley's affections just like she's already won his heart? I absolutely recommend this delightful outstanding 5⭐️winner you will be glad you got. You'll definitely love this winner.

They met a bar and a one magical night together. They had an interesting connection and chemistry, but never exchanged names. So a few weeks later when she sees two pink lines, she has no way to contact him. She has settled in to working at her vet, veterinary practice, and raising her baby alone went out of nowhere he appears. After his military service, he is back stateside and planning to work at the animal sanctuary. His brother and arms has started. He hasn’t been able to get her out of his mind months after their one night together. So when he sees her and her unexpected surprise, he is startled, but ready to jump all in. This book is part of a series while each individual story is its complete standalone. There is continuing relationships between auxiliary characters and couples from previous books occasionally pop-up in present stories. It does make a better reading experience if you read them in order however this is a quick fun romance. She is a curvy, successful, independent woman, and he is the younger ex military big hunk of a handsome man that falls right for her. He just ask her to give happily ever after a try.

A Fate Worth Living - Marley and Evan’s night together was meant to be a one time encounter, but what neither one of them realised was the he had left her with more than just memories. However, Marley and Evan’s destiny involved them meeting again in an unexpected way, which shook them the the core. Even though Marley was upset after their reunion, she didn’t expect Evan’s reaction to receiving the news that his life and about to change.
Evan did everything possible to convince Marley to give them a chance and just after he succeeded, all his efforts were nearly destroyed by his brother’s intervention. Luckily, Evan was able to stop to his brother’s action in time and convince Marley of his true feelings, so the6 could have a chance at a future together. This is a wonderful romance story with the right amount of drama and spiciness. It was an easy read that I enjoyed on Sunday evening to end a stressful week.

OMG This was so cute! Marley met Evan at a bar when she was out celebrating her new veterinary practice. They shared one night, but not their real names. So when she found out she was pregnant and tried to find him, she was out of luck. Evan couldn't stop thinking about the woman from the bar, but since he didn't know her name, it was impossible to find her. He was in for a surprise when he walked into the veterinary clinic to see the vet who had been so cranky with him over text. He never expected to find her there, months later. And now he was going to be working with her for the dog sanctuary. After some confusion and miscommunication, Evan turns out to be quite the golden retriever himself, determined to convince Marley that he wants to be part of her life, despite her thinking he just wants to "do the right thing." This was cute and sweet and plenty hot, with a guy determined to win over the woman who stole his heart, and the vet trying to keep him at arm's length.

Another short steamy and fun read from Kat Baxter. I really love this series and all the characters we have met along the way but would have to say that Mark and Evan are now my favs. I love the guys and the bromance they all have - - keep me cracking up with their text commentary. Marley is trying to do the whole single mom thing in a small town where everyone of course knows everyone else’s business. But being the small animal vet in town, she never would have expected her one night hookup to pop back up in real life. Evan has been trying to track her down ever since that night and now he has to prove to Marley it wasn’t just a one time thing for him as he really felt a connection between them and really wanted to explore it more….he just has to convince her while also reinforcing that he isn’t doing it out of obligation to the baby. And boy does he go out of his way to do that (swoon). Loved it and need more of these amazing characters and storylines.
This is book five in the author’s Dog Tags series about a group of former military guys from the same unit that run a dog sanctuary. In this reverse age gap romance, Evan is the newest member on staff.
After a one night stand that rocked his world and then disappeared, Evan is still looking for her, months later. As if that wasn’t frustrating enough, the town vet is driving him nuts, doesn’t even trust him—a special forces medic for goodness sake— to administer the dogs’ immunizations! Maybe if he met with her she’d realize he’s more than capable…
This was a steamy little morsel of instalove goodness, my only complaint is that it ended too abruptly; even just a few more paragraphs might’ve made it feel more complete, I don’t know but it kinda feels unfinished to me. As it is right now, 4.25 stars!.

Marley is riding high—celebrating the launch of her long-dreamed-of veterinary clinic and finally seeing her hard work pay off. So when she locks eyes with a charming, handsome stranger across the bar, she decides for once to throw caution to the wind. One night. No names. No strings. Just magic.
Evan never expected to meet a woman who felt like everything he’s ever wanted—smart, funny, passionate, and with a spark that matches his own. Their chemistry is undeniable, and the night they share is unforgettable. But when morning comes, Marley is gone, leaving only the memory of something that felt far too real to be fleeting.
Now Evan is left chasing a ghost, and Marley is wondering if she made the right choice walking away from something that felt like more than just a moment.

Happily Evan After is a cute and spicy contemporary romance and book five in the author’s Dog Tags series. This was a short story but that didn’t take away from its entertainment value and I enjoyed Marley and Evan’s journey down the path of love. It was pretty obvious the night they met there was a spark between them even as they agree to keep things anonymous and for one night only. Four months later and Marley finds herself pregnant and without a name to track her one night down, she has no way of letting him know. Thankfully fate has got this and they are brought together again. I enjoyed the story which was nicely written, with well crafted characters and was a delightful, satisfying read. HEA.

Rick and Evie meet in a bar, well Evan and Marley meet in a bar, and seeing as it is only one night of passion and they both love The Mummy, is seems fitting. One night of passion, yeah, famous last words. After one night of life changing, never repeating, awe inspiring smexy times, over and over again smexy times, Marley runs, and Evan is left wanting more. He searches for his “Evie” or “Dimples” as he likes to call her, but to no avail. His terrible twin brother tries to tell Evan to move on. Then Fate steps in and takes a hand. Marley finds out she is pregnant, and she is a little bit lost, but being the only veterinarian in town, you run into a lot of people…..Like the man of your dreams, and the father of your unborn child!!! I love Evan, he is such a golden retriever!! He even sets up a tent in Marley’s yard for…..well, I do not want to spoil it!!!
Evan and Marley shared an incredible night together, they never exchanged names because it was just meant to be one night. Fast forward and Marley can't forget that night, not least because she finds she's pregnant. She's now the vet in Saddle Creek. Evan just can't forget that night and has tried to find her with no success. He's in Saddle Creek working with Dane at Great Dane's dog sanctuary. What are the odds that these two won't meet again? Of course they do, and even though Marley pretends not to recognise him, it's hard to ignore the attraction, especially when he finds out she's pregnant with his daughter. Evan sets out on a mission to make Marley his. Will he succeed? Well, this is Saddle Creek and anything can happen here.
Another easy read in this series.

When Marley spent an incredible night with Evan she knew that would be all they would have as not only didn’t they share personal information, but they didn’t share names. A few months later when she receives some unexpected news her attempts to track him down until he appears in her veterinary clinic and she panics.
After his military career ended Evan relocates to town to partner with a friend at the dog sanctuary. When his text messages with the vet don’t end well he decides to charm her in person however when he finds out she is the woman he hasn’t been able to forget he is determined to show her just how irresistible he is.
I really enjoyed romantic Evan was when it came to winning Marley’s heart and was determined to show her what he knew after their one night together and that what they shared wasn’t a fling but forever.
The surprise pregnancy/one night stand trope is my all time favourite. So this adorable quick read steamy novella delivered spice, romance and an adorable golden retriever MMC desperate to be part of his baby's life.
KB never disappoints and if you want a palette cleansing quick read HEA you cannot go wrong with Happily Evan After. Marley is a self doubting, neurospicy, curvy FMC. She has never found someone worth the effort of overcoming her anxieties for. Evan has recently moved to Saddle Creek to join the dog rescue manned by his veteran buddies. He is incentivised to find the beautiful woman he connected with for one night.
These two are sparky and funny and have a gorgeous connection. I loved every page of this falling fast and hard romance.
