Lotte Wilde has been spending her summers at Camp Hawthorne for the last five years. With her father’s recent disappearance, everything Lotte thought she knew about the camp and life in general, has shifted. Feeling like everything she was told growing up to this point in her life was a lie— even love.

The recent appearance of an irritatingly handsome and witty counselor this summer puts Lotte on edge. Causing her temper to slip, as well as her tongue. Lotte has to decide whether or not it is a good idea to trust again, by following him into the unknown. Every family has their share of secrets. The Wilde family, however, has one that goes beyond this world and into the next.

This book addresses mental health in teens through Celtic Mythology.

Wait this was kinda fire. YA heavy but the story was thought out and I liked the plot and the cultural lore tied in. (Also doesn’t hurt that the author is a friend :))

I am so lucky n proud to call this author my cousin! not that I at all doubted her, but am beyond impressed w this read for her first book!! I was truly in need of a light read and more interesting plot after not loving the last 2 books or so I read and this gave me just that.

If you are someone who loves the fantasy/fairy books and knows very little about celtic mythology, this book does such a great job of combining the 2 in a way that is not overwhelming for those who know very little (such as myself). I am so excited to see where the story goes!

✨BOOK REVIEW✨

O'Sidhe by Fiona Rose Guides

Camp Hawthorne is supposed to be a place of summer freedom—but for Lotte Wilde, it becomes a gateway into grief, truth, and something far older than she could ever imagine.

This gorgeous middle grade/YA debut blends teen mental health with the haunting beauty of Celtic mythology. Lotte is fierce and hurting and wonderfully flawed—struggling with feeling like she’s “too much” and “not enough” all at once. Watching her navigate grief, family secrets, and the sweetest little romance had me rooting for her the whole way.

There's a twist halfway through that made me pause and whisper “WHAT,” and another one at the end that made me grin. Lotte’s brother?? ICONIC. The love story?? Adorably awkward and sincere. And the mythology?? Fiona Rose Guides really said, “Let me bottle Ireland’s magic and pour it onto the page.” Having spent quite a bit of time in Ireland, she bottles it perfectly!

I also had to look up about 37 (but really, a lot) Gaelic words and I love learning Gaelic!

I gave O'Sidhe 3 stars, which is a solid rating—especially for a debut! The story was a bit young for me personally, but if you're just starting out in the fantasy genre, this would be a lovely entry point. You get a little bit of everything: mystery, magic, sweet romance, and Celtic mythology. I truly hope Fiona keeps writing—she’s so talented, and I really loved the world she created. There’s a special kind of magic in these pages. ✨

🌿 Themes: identity, loss, healing, ancient secrets, and finding the courage to trust again.

⭐ Recommend for: younger fans of soft magic, family mystery, mythology with meaning, and characters who break your heart and stitch it back together.

“He wasn't judging me or waiting for a response, just letting me exist”

This was a really fun and different read for me, it is more YA than I was expecting but it was refreshing that it wasn’t filled with romance & smut.
The magic system in this book is interesting and nothing like I’ve ever read before.
The inner monologue for the characters when they were facing situations was well written and heartfelt, as an anxious girly I appreciated the descriptions.
I wish our MMC had a happier ending but I feel that his story (hopefully) is going to be the next.

All in all it was a good read and I would recommend this book to friends!

Oh this book is wonderful. I got into a reading slump for a minute so it took me a bit longer then I wanted to finish it but my god am I glad I read it. I cannot wait for the next book already! It has everything I love about a book from fantasy, to Magic, to enemies to lovers, two different realms, funny banter between characters, and annoying kings this book had it all. I highly recommend for anybody to read it. Also, easy read to which is nice because I am normally one for audio books (reading takes me longer then most) but I was more than willing to read it considering I wanted to support the author and it’s my favorite type of book! Yes please!
