Το σκανταλιάρικο κουταβάκι

Ο Μπιμ, το άταχτο κουτάβι, όπου κι αν πάει, τα κάνει όλα γυαλιά καρφιά. Γι" αυτό κανένα ζώο στο αγρόκτημα δε θέλει να παίξει μαζί του. Άδικα ψάχνει να βρει σύντροφο στα παιχνίδια του. Στο τέλος πιστεύει, όπως του λένε όλοι ότι είναι πολύ άταχτος. Όμως τα πράγματα αλλάζουν όταν συναντάει ένα φίλο πολύ πιο άταχτο από τον ίδιο. Τα παιχνίδια τους είναι τρελά, μα τελειώνουν δημιουργώντας μια μεγάλη έκπληξη σε όλους.

Ken Brown studied illustration at Birmingham Art College in England. Brown has served both as writer-illustrator and as illustrator for numerous children’s books.
Ken and Tammy have been married for 23 years and they have three daughters and one son. They feel blessed to be together. They both are passionate in what they do and have found joy throughout the years working together on their projects. Writing a book together has been rewarding and has helped bring them even closer to each other."

Ken Brown's Mucky Pup comes at you to run amuck (bad pun of the day) with your heart in its paws. Mucky Pup is renamed so because, well, living on a mucky farm it should be obvious why! And no one on the farm will play with Mucky, neither the uber proud rooster or the snooty ducky or the stuffy horse (how many farm animal stereotypes can your kid find? You should try it.). But then Mucky gets LUCKY with a muckier piggy in a big plot of mucky mud! Let the playing commence....until it's time to wash up! Mucky Pup is a sweetheart, like so many puppydogs in kids lit today! MUCK your calendar for reading this book to your kids! It'll MUCK YOU HAPPY!

One of my fave picture books of all time. Mucky Pup reminds me of every dog I’ve ever had, and his hunt for a playmate is truly moving! The animals, water and mud are so vividly drawn, they bring quite a simple story to life.

This book by Ken Brown tells the story of a puppy who just wants to have fun. He spends the day asking a variety of animals to be his friend. Unfortunately because he is a rather 'mucky' pup none of the other animals want to play with him.
Luckily for mucky pup he eveutually meets a friendly yet equally mucky pig and the story concludes on a happy note.
I read this to my Year 2 class and they loved it, we discussed the reasons why we shouldn't mske judgements about people (puppies) based on their appearance. The illustrations are bright and colourful and perfectly suit the tone of the story. The happy ending made the children smile.
