After three unsuccessful Seasons, Miss Sophia Hayward has decided marriage is not for her. But when she overhears a scheme to force her into a perilous match, her future becomes a bid for survival. He never expected to be anyone’s protector …
Richard Balfour, Earl of Saunton, has spent years trying to distance himself from the scandals of his past. ~°❀My Thoughts❀°~
Y'all, this book was really good!

I really liked the redemption arc in this book. I do wish there was more faith content and more of God involved with it, but what we got was still pretty good.

The only reason this book isn't 5 stars is because there's some content I wasn't fond of reading and typically try to avoid. Like, don't misunderstand that, this is a clean, fade to black/closed door, kisses only romance, but I think it's mainly the drinking that deterred me somewhat. Like, sure, he, for the most part, stopped drinking but if it wasn't for the fact that Sophia asked him to stop, I don’t think he actually would have and there's even times that Richard basically says that he wishes he were able to just drink alcohol whenever so… and like, I know not every Christian thinks that drinking is bad, but I do, so I was a bit disappointed that drinking was, well, it wasn't really portrayed as good, but it wasn't portrayed as bad either, and like, when I see a redemption arc like Richard's, I typically want to see him willingly stop drinking, too, but that obviously didn't happen, and with all the praying to God and other faith content, I would have expected at least something said, but again there wasn't, so yeah… Disappointing, but not the end of the world, and other than preventing the 5 stars, didn't really take away from my enjoyment much.

So yeah, besides that, this book was really good! It was very entertaining and intriguing with lots of action!

~°❀Characters❀°~
Sophia:
I loved her a lot! She was definitely relatable and her personality had me laughing a lot. She annoyed me with her tendency to not be completely honest, too, along with her husband, but I definitely enjoyed them learning from those mistakes and becoming better people by the end.

Richard:
I loved his redemption arc so much, other than the whole drinking thing that I have mentioned before, and I also surprisingly really liked his character as a whole, but he seriously annoyed me with some of his actions. Like, I get that he wanted to protect his family, but his reluctance to be completely honest had me literally wanting to whack him in the head…

After reading book one in the series I was excited to jump straight into book 2. This book was more confronting than book one. It is an unusual topic for regency to be shown into the cad ways of gentlemen, marrying one while entertaining others. This book does not contain any current cheating but discusses that it was once a fact. It is a massive redemption story. That even the most lost can change their ways, especially if they are surrounded by love and support. This book had so much drama and excitement throughout it was definitely a much grittier regency than most and I loved it because of that. Once again this book is a Christian fiction. Both of the characters talk to God about all their thoughts, which is a nice reminder that we always have access to our creator. I'm looking forward to the next book.
I received this book as an ARC. Thankyou for the chance to read and review

I loved this book by Isabel Jacobs, and this is my first read from her.

I'm very much into regency and a harsh critic of regency romance because most regencies don't really capture the tone and feel it's supposed to. That said, I enjoyed the intricacies of the romance between the main characters, it was not forced. I enjoyed their thoughts and constant silent prayer for help, seeing and recognizing their inadequacies (we all are).

There's only one thing though, I feel like their inner thoughts oversaturated the work that it might have become a plot of itself. This is my opinion and another reader might think different. Overall, I'd recommend this book to any and all.

Please note: I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. These are most definitely my honest opinions of the book.

I truly enjoyed The Duke’s Sacred Vow, so I couldn’t wait to dive into the next book in the series, The Earl’s Courtship of Hope. In the first book, Richard, the Earl of Saunton, betrays his betrothed, Annabel, by having an affair with her maid. Heartbroken, Annabel is saved by an unexpected offer of marriage from Philip, the Duke of Halmesbury.

This second installment follows Richard as he seeks to make amends—not just with Annabel, but with other women he’s wronged. He also marries Sylvia Hayward, and the story tracks their journey as they navigate the ripple effects of his past choices.

The redemption arc was both compelling and refreshing. It’s rare to see a nobleman in historical romance actively try to repair the harm he’s caused, and I found that angle brave and unique. It also highlighted how much a person can change when repentance is genuine. Watching Richard’s transformation—and how others responded to it—was inspiring.

It was also refreshing to see the Duke of Halmesbury appear in this book. He continues to be such a standout character, and I honestly think he should be included in every installment of the series. His presence adds warmth, strength, and grounding to the story.

However, I didn’t enjoy this installment as much as the first. The characters didn’t stand out or linger with me the way they did in The Duke’s Sacred Vow. Some scenes also felt confusing or somewhat unrealistic. The frequent prayer interruptions and internal reflections were much heavier in this book and disrupted the flow and pacing. I think those elements could have been either reduced or woven in more seamlessly.

Still, it was an uplifting and enjoyable read overall. If you appreciate heroes who are both brave and vulnerable and heroines with wit and strength, you’ll likely enjoy this story too.

This was a sweet little romance novel following Richard, Earl of Saunton, and Sophia, niece of Lord Hugh Abbott. It is a story of redemption, forgiveness, learning to trust, and seeing that people can change for the better. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Sophia has spent three seasons putting on different personas to dissuade potential suitors from offering for marriage. Her father, a drunkard and gambler, did not treat the family well, especially her mother. After his death at a game of cards, likely due to abusing his body over the years, her mother died days later of a laudanum overdose, and Sophia was sent to live with her aunt and uncle, along with her older brother, a product of her father's first marriage who is set to follow in his footsteps. With the awful examples set by her parents and her witnessing the destruction they caused themselves and others, she is intent on becoming a spinster and securing her dowry for herself. After a first dance with Richard where she played vapid and shallow, she sneaks out of a ball with her cousin, not knowing Richard is also outside. Acting her usual self, he overhears her expressing her thoughts about the King and then himself, where she cast him in quite an ugly light. This both has him fascinated with her and intent on making changes and becoming an honorable man. He sets out to both win her hand and to make amends with ladies he had dalliances with in his past. While she struggles to admit it to herself, Sophia is taken with Richard, and when she overhears her brother and Lord Leech scheming to marry her off and split her dowry, she decides to accept Richard's offer of marriage to protect herself. The remainder of the book follows Sophia and Richard navigating marriage, learning to become helpmates to each other and how to put pride aside, as they face threats in and out of marriage and form a true family. This book was full of great side characters, some of whom come from the previous book. It is not necessary to read book one as this can be read standalone (this is my first of the series and I had no issue following, nor did I feel I was missing anything). Both main characters have flaws they have to fix in themselves and a need to learn patience, and I thought the author did well with growing them both individually and as a couple. Everything was not always easy and they both made mistakes, but their intentions were always good. I think this book also did a good job of demonstrating some honest relationship lessons as well, such as the need to put pride second, to be honest even when it might be uncomfortable or when you think you are protecting the other, and that it's never fair to test your partner when they don't know they're being tested in the first place. There was humor, and I particularly giggled a good deal with some of Sophia's frustration at Richard that I think is universally felt by wives with their husband's sometimes, so it felt quite relatable. There was a small section of the book that felt a little heavy handed with their prayers/brief thoughts to God, not that there was anything wrong with them but it felt as prevalent or more than with each other a bit unnaturally, but it didn't ruin the story and the pacing of it did go back to feeling a little more natural against the story. While the book is a Christian romance and clearly has some religious tone to it, it was done well and never felt preachy, but the religious aspect was conveyed well through the thoughts of the characters and their actions and went very hand in hand with the story in a good way. There is kissing, but nothing more. I wouldn't even consider it fade to black so much as brief allusions to the characters being married and having natural relations. The story was well paced, and the suspense was entertaining. I also found the afterword interesting. All in all, I really enjoyed this novel and would read another from this author.

The Earl's Courtship of Hope, the second book in The Brides of the Regency series, is a very fun clean Christian romance. The plot has many carryovers from the first book, so I definitely suggest reading The Duke's Sacred Vow first.

Lord Richard Balfour, the scamp we met in the first book, is still making excuses for losing his childhood friend and fiancée Annabel to his cousin due to his bad behavior. Caught kissing one of her maids, he sent her running for any escape from their betrothal, landing in the arms of his cousin who was only too happy to accommodate her with a marriage proposal. Now he is forced to marry to secure an heir, and seeks another woman he thinks he can live with. He has no aspirations of finding love again, like he thought he had found eventually possible with Annabel.

Sophia Hayward is a sharp-witted young woman determined to avoid marriage and claim her own sizeable dowry so she can live alone and under her own terms as an avowed spinster. She has perfected the art of acting the vapid and shallow society debutante, successfully fending off any interested suitors. Richard finds her beautiful but buys her flighty brainless act, and considers her not a suitable match. Sophia is attracted to the handsome earl, but his reputation as a rake precedes him and she holds a low opinion of him.

Overhearing Sophia delivering a blisteringly negative critique of his qualities to her best friend, he prays and vows to overhaul his bad reputation. Thus begins this delightful tale of good intentions gone wrong, backstabbing, betrayal and above all, romance. There are past mistakes to be atoned for, fair maids to be won, and unexpected villains to battle.

The worldbuilding is top notch and the characters are well developed. I fell totally in love with Richard, who I had hated in the first book. He really finds his redemption in more ways that one. Sophie is delightfully spunky and strong-minded, giving Richard a run for his money. The HEA was hard won and heartwarming, and I loved every minute getting there. I heartily recommend this book for all regency romance lovers and Christian romance lovers.

I read an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I was not sure I could like Richard after reading the first book, and he starts off just as bad, thinking that Annabel jilted him 'in a fit of pique', when it was really because she found him with a maid. But very early on, he overhears two girls talking about him and how despicable he is, and it hits him hard and motivates him to change. I loved how his change was not just words, but he took concrete action to try to repair the lives he had ruined. He didn't necessarily always go about doing it the best way, but it would have been strange if he had suddenly done everything perfectly. I liked Sophia too, and how she took everything in stride after she married him, even though a lot of it was sprung on her. She didn't blame Richard for things that weren't his fault, and didn't immediately decide on no evidence he had returned to his old ways when she heard rumors of him visiting different women. The only thing she got upset about was him lying to her, which is very reasonable, in my opinion. When she realizes that she was not as blameless in that situation as she had thought at first, she wasted no time in going back home to apologize to him.
There were very few misunderstandings, which was nice. I also liked how the characters are constantly praying, about everything, not just one or two token prayers.
I was not expecting to like Perry, but I ended up rather loving him. He seemed more like a man trying to drown out and escape from the memories of his horrible father than a self-absorbed jerk, like Richard was in the first book. If he really had been that selfish, I don't think he could have loved his brother as much as he clearly did. Of course, this does not excuse his actions, but it does make him much more likable.
I received a free copy of this book, but all opinions are my own.

The Earl's Courtship of Hope (Brides of the Regency #2)

Returning to the captivating world begun in the first Brides of the Regency novel was an absolute delight—much like a long-awaited visit with old friends.

Having adored the series' debut, I was thrilled that "The Earl’s Courtship of Hope" not only met but exceeded my expectations, thoroughly immersing me once more in a Regency setting where romance is as rich as spiritual reflection.

What sets this book apart is how beautifully it brings God's love for the characters into sharp, heartfelt focus. Through skillful use of internal dialogue, readers are given an intimate glimpse into the faith, struggles, and inner growth of both hero and heroine. This spiritual thread elevates the romantic connection, offering layers of meaning and hope that will thrill any fan of Christian Regency Romance. The emotional depth of Sophia, paired with the rakish but fiercely loyal earl, makes their journey toward love feel authentic and powerfully redemptive.

Fans of "The Duke's Sacred Vow" and those who savor heartfelt, faith-forward romances will find this a must-read. The story is sweet, swoony, and full of genuine moments of grace and wit, with both the intrigue and gentle humor that define the best of the genre.

Thank you to the publisher and BookSirens for providing an advance reader's copy for review. "The Earl’s Courtship of Hope" is a truly charming, spiritually uplifting read and not to be missed by Christian Regency enthusiasts!

Title: Earl Richard Balfour changes his “spots” to win his wife’s love.

Lord Richard Balfour, the fourth Earl of Saunton, is looking for a wife. Not just any wife, but one who can discuss a range of topics with him, in other words, a “bluestocking’” sort of bride. Meanwhile, Miss Emily Haywood is trying to escape the marriage mart by pretending to be just another vapid female whole only goal in life is to marry. When they initially meet, they mutually repel each other, due to incorrect impressions of the real person. But, when Richard accidentally overhears a conversion between Emily and her friend —-about HIM and his scandalous reputation—he is struck to the heart! He further recognizes that he had misjudged Emily as having no depth to her thinking as he listens to her conversation. The stage is set for Richard to change his behavior and for Richard and Emily to form a relationship.

In addition to being a love story, there is a mystery that emerges: who is trying to sabotage their relationship with a series of public embarrassments and then physical violence? The embarrassments, meant to drive Richard and Emily apart, actually provide the groundwork for them to build a close and trusting relationship as they overcome each attack.

This is a clean story, appropriate for all ages. (It is a bit heavy on Scriptural quotations IMO).

It is part of a series, but it stands on its own well. Overall, an engaging story that was hard to put down. I received this copy from BookSirens. My review is voluntary and the opinions are my own.

Jacobs' writing is uncomplicated which makes for a quick and easy read, a fine option when you want a mental escape for an hour or two. However, similar to the characters in the first book in this series, the characters in this book are flat (i.e., poorly developed) and the faith elements, such as they are, seem shallow as though they're included more to tick a box than as genuine outpouring from the characters.

For example, the male protagonist in this novel claims repeatedly that he is ashamed of his past and wants to change; however, when he witnesses the same bad behaviour in his brother, he is simply amused. That does not show an awareness of sin but merely regret that his actions have caused others to think badly of him. Similarly, a female character from the first novel refuses to offer forgiveness until she receives an apology to her liking. Jacobs' characters show little depth in terms of development, character, or faith.

I could recommend this book to someone wanting a quick, easy read with light moralistic elements but not to someone wanting a deeper, more real faith element.

When a regency book has masterful storytelling and well developed characters it is hard to put down. I found this book to have that and more - lots of drama and romance was involved in Richard and Sophia's story. The story had more than just romance though, it was about the 'bad boy' being redeemed, that we all bring baggage with us (some is just more visible than others) and that repentance and redemption can lead to restoration.

This is a clean Christian romance with plenty of romance scattered throughout. Compared to other 'clean' books I found it to be a little more descriptive in the kissing etc but still clean. I enjoyed the way their faith was part of the story - their prayers and spiritual reflections felt natural within the story and dialogue.

The Earl's Courtship of Hope is book 2 in The Brides of the Regency series. It flows directly on from book 1 so I do recommend you read The Duke's Sacred Vow first. I had just read book 1 and was so keen to dive straight into book 2. I received an advance review copy of this book for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Greatly entertaining characters. Sophia is trying to get through her last season without getting married. Her subterfuge usually worked quite well to repel. Richard is a rogue. Her overhears Sophia's opinion of him and decides to change, apologize to all the women he had wronged and set things right with them. Sophia and Richard get together in the most interesting, twisting journey. The delightfulness of them both and the slightly steamy romance make it hard to put the book down. Genuine feelings come through and enrich the experience. Very, very good read.

I received this book free from the author and Book Sirens book review program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

I really enjoyed this book. The heroine in this story, Sophia, was a young woman who knew what she wanted and wasn't the typical wallflower like so many women were portrayed in this time period.

When she met Richard she did not want to get married even though it was expected of her. As she and Richard became better acquainted she agreed to the marriage partly to save herself from her half brother's schemes.

Richard was a young man with a scandalous reputation. When dangerous things began happening to the young couple I almost didn't want to finish the book because I thought I knew what was going to happen. I was pleasantly surprised at the unexpected direction the author took.

While I enjoyed this book, I didn't like it as much as the first one. This one was a bit darker in subject matter including promiscuity and violence. It was a beautiful story of redemption and changed lives though. Not just changing his life, but also trying to repair wrongs that had been done. Realizing how others view you and how your past shapes you, can be very eye opening. This story shows the importance of telling the whole truth and allowing others to help you and not bearing the weight of things alone. While this is part of a series, I feel that enough information was given that it could be read alone, but it is better read in order if possible. This was a great story! This is the second book in the series. It can be read as a standalone as the author does an excellent job of providing details to help the reader gain perspective on what has happened in the past. I like the way that Richard had a change of heart after hearing Sophie describe him to her cousin. He asked for forgiveness and dedicated his life to making amends for his past mistakes. Sophie allowed herself to forgive Richard and give him a second chance to show that he had changed. Sophie and Richard wanted to have a happy ever after but many things and people are trying to keep that from happening. This is a great story of faith, forgiveness, and love.

I loved Richard and Sophie’s story—a heartfelt, clean Christian romance about redemption, humility, and second chances. Richard’s journey to make amends is deeply moving, while Sophie’s warmth and humor bring light to even the toughest moments. Their love, tested by scandal and a marriage scheme, grows into something beautifully healing. Isabel Jacobs writes with emotional clarity and grace, and this book—like her others—is easy to read, faith-filled, and full of hope. Though part of a series, it stands well on its own. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys sweet romances with depth and spiritual insight.

I enjoyed this regency romance and an eye opener to how little respect women enjoyed. I found Sophia’s character quite a challenge. Not sure I’d be so supporting of Richard, but understand her reasoning. It reminds us that none of us are without fault and we all need to demonstrate trust to receive it. We are reminded that marriage isn’t just feelings it’s a lot of hard work (chapter 21).
I love the way they both silently pray for guidance but sometimes if doesn’t feel as if they have a true relationship with God and that they are throwaway prayers/thoughts.
A true redemption story reminding us we can all change, unfortunately instead of seeking Gods help Richard gives Sophia all the credit. I can’t wait to see what happens next both with Percy and Lily.

I loved Richard and Sophie's story. Richard is trying to makes amends for all the bad things he did. It was hard for him and he had to humble himself. The book was well written and you could feel and understand his emotions.

Sophie is just a loveable character that turns most bad situations into funny situations. She is a lot more charitable than I could ever be.

I am just loving reading this author- Isabel Jacobs. She is fast becoming a favorite author of mine and I would highly recommend her books and this book!

This is book 2 in the series. I have read & enjoyed both books. You could read this book without reading Book 1 & be able to follow along, but there is a bit of crossover in the characters, so I recommend reading Book 1 first.

I enjoyed this book. I fell in love with the characters & enjoyed their interaction & how the book played out. Having read the 1st book, I wasn't sure how I would like the main character in this book (b/c he was a scoundrel in the 1st book), but the author did a good job & I enjoyed seeing some redemption & change.

Thanks to the author & publisher for the ARC reads. All opinions are my own.

This is a great clean regency romance book of redemption. The heroine is feisty and really a modern woman of her time. She's not afraid, strong in her faith, and someone you will be cheering for in this book. After reading the 1st book in the series, I was not sure that I could EVER like Richard, but by the end of the story you will be cheering for him too! I really enjoyed the prayer thoughts from both of the characters, it's realistic if you are reading it as a Christian.

Very interesting book. The whole story was well written with villains, and marriage and family issues but what made it unique was the two main characters continually asking the Lord to help them do the right thing when confronted with a situation that they didn't know how to handle. I read book 2 first and now am looking forward to reading the first book in the series. I recommend The Earl's Courtship of Hope.

I am glad I found this series. Isabel Jacob's has captured my attention through each page. Romance, drama, scandalous, suspensive all can be found in the pages of The Earl's Courtship of Hope. This is book 2 in a series- while it could be read alone- I recommend reading book 1 first as the characters make an appearance in these pages as well. No spoilers but I am ready to read book 3.

I really enjoyed this sweet clean romance with characters who have faith. The writing is good and easy to read. The characters are likeable. I did get a bit impatient with them at how long it took to figure out something very important. I do highly recommend this and other books by this author.

A young woman with a hefty dowry does not want tp marry but realises her single status puts her at risk.

A romance novel that caters for Christian Americans I think: lots of praying and no sex. The American influence also shows in a marriage at home. Enflish people had to marry in a church.

Ok-ish novel but I could not understand why she did not ask her loving family instead.

Most enjoyable read

I really enjoyed Richard and Sophia's story. It is filled with intrigue and action. Little Ethan is a delight. Lovely ending. This is also a wholesome read. No sex or foul language. It also gives a bit of closure to a particular event in book 1, but if you haven't read book 1 you won't be lost. (Hope Perry's story goes on special soon.) Enjoy!

This book is a clean Christian read with references to redemption. I liked the two main characters as they navigate a scheme to get her married and the scandal of his past. Their supporting love sees them to a HEA. It was a good read that referenced some of the sordid things in society.

This second book in the Brides of the Regency series was a very fun, clean Christian romance. It is a story of redemption, with drama, forgiveness, and romance that was engaging. I enjoyed the delightful characters and their growth, genuine feelings, and strong faith. I recommend reading.
