Sheriff Lil Eller is juggling a relationship, a new deputy, and the usual pressures of enforcing the law in Crazy, Virginia. Then a land use controversy literally blows up, revealing one of Crazy’s darkest secrets. There’s a killer in town – and he’s left Lil and her feline deputy Boris the mystery of his identity, and the identities of his victims.
Shannon Hill lives in the commonwealth of Virginia and treasures her privacy. She loves cats, chocolate, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Although she is not nearly as awesome as Sheriff Lil Eller, her cats are as awesome as Boris. One of them even enjoys riding in the car. (Seriously. Who could make that up?)
Just finished reading all five of these novels back to back. Each built upon the previous, filling out characters, neighborhoods, and embroidering the arc of the two feuding families lives. It was refreshing to have a female protagonist who had no claim to beauty or charm, but brimmed with physical and character strength. While technically you could argue this is a 'cat mystery', in actuality her feline companion serves as a respite from a grim job, and companion to a very lonely person rather than 'detecting' as in other examples of the genre.
I have to admit I really miss Crazy, Va, and all it's idiosyncrasies so much, that it has impeded my getting involved in other books.
When I put the last book down, I could not help but wonder how this novel creation has not been snapped up by a TV producer...Crazy, VA, would make a wonderful, entertaining, funny, thrilling series.
Lil and Boris are favorites of mine and happy to see this book, sorry to learn it probably the last one. Lil, Punk and Boris return from a trip and find Crazy in an uproar. The feud between Ellers and Littlepages is on again. Someone drove a truck carrying a bomb into the new supermarket store of Ellers. To Lil dismay she finds a body near the truck. Boris helps to lighten this part as there are EIGHT BODIES BURIED IN A ROLE. Will Lil and finds out who was responsible? Read in order to enjoy this series.
This was excellent, as all the others in this series have been, however, now I have a problem - NO MORE BOOKS ABOUT LIL AND BORIS!!!! WAHHHHHH! This was really good, a serial killer on the loose in Crazy, and too many bigwigs are trying to cover it up... And of course, Lil is caught in the middle as it appears to have something to do with her rich but crappy Eller Relations... And Aunt Marge is conniving again, and trying to push Lil to marry Punk... how does it all end up? You need to read it and find out! PLEASE Ms Hill, may we have some more Crazy stories?
I got book #2 on a deal from book bub and went back and bought the other 4. This was a great series that worked serious and sometimes dark themes into a story with great quirky characters. I would love to see more from Lil and Boris
Crazy, Va is home to 2 feuding families-the Littlepages & the Ellers. The feud, going on since about 1790, takes the form of building things for Crazy - schools, libraries, courthouses, roads, developments, etc. 2 years ago Jack Littlepage opened a classy RV/camping site that has brought much needed tourism dollars to the county. Recently the Ellers decided to develop a plot of land into a big box store & strip mall. Most people think this will kill the town. Someone is sufficiently against it that they drove a truck full of explosives up to the mountain the construction was leveling off and blew it up. The explosion brought to light first 1 and then finally 8 bodies of young women who went missing up and down the US29 corridor 20 years ago. Lil & Boris find themselves dealing with a serial killer. Sheriff Lil Eller, who is both a Littlepage and an Eller, calls in the Feds for help as she delves into the past to find out who the killer was & why the killings stopped. I live on US29 and was here through the "29 Stalker" scare in 1996. This gave the story an intensity for me I doubt the author really intended. It hit a little too close to home. Also Lil is having trouble with her lovelife. Punk turns out to have a connection to one of the missing girls and she has to distance herself during the investigation plus both of them have issues with relationships. This was a great story, I think the best of the series and I am so sad it's over now.
The continuing adventures of Sheriff Littlepage ‘Lil’ Eller and her Deputy Boris, the cat with an attitude and an intuition for sussing out liars.
Lil and Punk, her boyfriend go on vacation and when they return the County has taken sides - the Littlepages and the Ellers. And someone in their wisdom decided to put up a superstore at a site designated for wildlife - bad enough but then a body is unearthed and then another ... creating a whole new hornets nest.
The is the last book in the Lil & Boris saga and I will miss their antics but Shannon Hill decided to go out in a big way with a shocking case to really challenge the Crazy Sheriff’s Department.
I was sad to read the last book in this series as I have so enjoyed visiting with Lil and Boris and the townsfolk of Crazy and I will miss them. I love the characters and Lil and Boris make a great team of detectives. I’m still imagining them out their patrolling those streets bringing miscreants to heel. Thanks for the fun ride.
Shannon Hill wrapped up this series very nicely after a very difficult investigation. Lil and Boris's routine speed traps become unimportant when an explosion reveals bodies lined up and buried on a hill. Tempers flare while fear and history mix when the investigation brings in the FBI. Family and personal matters are mixed in with the mystery, but Lil and Boris manage to get through it all. Sadly this is the last of this interesting series according to the author, but if she changes her mind there will be happy readers.
I truly enjoyed this series. This is the second time I've read through it, and it was just as good as the first time. Her characters are consistent and true to themselves. The cat is a delight, and the mysteries are entertaining. And ( minor spoiler alert!) I'm a sucker for a happy ending.
Unfortunately, it appears this is the last of the series--the author seems to have no intention of writing any more Lil & Boris adventures. I'm sad, but very satisfied--this final installment is a humdinger and a hell of a way to go out.
Lil and Boris did not disappoint in this final visit to Crazy. This is such a good series with such good characters. I am very sad to see it end but I was also very satisfied with the ending.
I have read one a day and wish there were many many more. I highly recommend this series and know you will love them too. CAROL VANATTA Justcva46@gmail.com
The mystery in this one is disturbing, but Lil's emotions and thoughts are sparsely and deftly written so that they come across with utter clarity. The delightful turns of phrase and low key irony keep the reader smiling and even contribute to laugh-aloud moments. I look forward to reading more from this author.
serial murder victims found buried on land owned by one of the snootiest, richest family in town...county police chief collusion...incestual rape...20 year cover up...violent sociopath for a cousin shakes sheriff Ellers to her bones. she gets promoted for her work so sure hope it's not the end of this series. and she and her lover finally get together.
Another great read in this series. As always, well-written with likeable characters and different plots that the typical cozy mystery fare. I have enjoyed this series and read them all pretty much back to back. Boris is a hoot and Lil is awesome too.
I have loved every minute of this five book series. Please read these books...they are fun and serious. I am very sad that more will not be written ! I will look for more books by this author. Thank you for these ! Susan Millet
