I always have a good time reading her books and when I do I usually finish them in one sitting and this one had me hooked from the first chapter. I loved the drama and the conflict between the characters and of course the spice was written really well. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a fun MMF romance 😍 I read anything she writes and I can’t wait to see what she writes next.

Spice rating: 3

Recommend to someone looking for MMF spice with a surface level romance plot. Also, wants a good rodeo vibes.

This was my first book by this author. To me this was more of a smut with heart than a romance story with spice and that was good by me. Once I realized that, I very much enjoyed this book.

Pros:
I enjoyed the scenes that took place around the rodeo circuit. The scenes that involve the MMC’s riding bulls were written very well. There’s enough detail to make you feel the experience but not too much detail that you feel like you’re learning about bull riding.

Bull riding also added a lot of good conflict, drama, and suspense to the story.

The spicy scenes were very well written. I love an MMC that prioritizes aftercare. I also appreciated that there was prep work done before a certain activity took place for the first time.

With the MMCs we get the serious guy with more of an edge and we get the golden retriever people person guy. Two of my favorite combos.

I really liked how the bi-awakening in this story wasn’t part of the conflict. There was build up to it and unsureness the MMC experience but that was it.

I liked the premise of the story between the two MMCs. They were friends for years, a misunderstanding happened, and they became rivals that claimed to hate each other. When the FMC comes back she manages to break down the wall they created with the help of forced proximity and their love for her.

No third act break up. Which is great because I don’t think there was enough of a plot to support that.

Cons:
Three childhood friends turn lovers isn’t a bad story line for a romance story. It was one of the reasons I was interested in the book.
Unfortunately, with this one I couldn’t get on board with the whole their bond and love for each other being established at 14yrs old. The FMC having no contact with them for 8yrs. Then coming back 8yrs later after no contact and still having instant connection and attraction beyond physical with each other.
There are a couple flashbacks to 14yr old them but it wasn’t enough there to be like “they definitely had a strong bond”. The flashbacks mainly mentioned how they were constantly “intertwined with each other” laying in places. The author makes it clear she doesn’t mean sexually but it just kinda gave me the icks since we are reading about 14yr olds in those chapters. Then at one point one of the MMCs says he knew even back then that it was always supposed to be the three of them together. That was an ick too.
Overall I think if the characters were older, maybe 17, I could buy into the whole childhood friendship that transcended time and absences but at 14 I just don’t see it without more backstory.

I wasn’t a fan of the FMC, Callie story line. Her storyline is that she just finished college and has a big job in the city lined up but before she can move on and become an adult, she has to go back and find closure in an eight year old childhood friendship she left behind. That felt like a bit of a stretch for me.
There’s also the trauma caused by her father’s death that adds obstacles to her new relationships. I don’t see her return being focused on overcoming her dads death outside of its effects on her relationship with the guys. She shows up with no car, no hotel room, no plan other than hoping the guys welcome her into open arms after not speaking for 8yrs. That was a hard sell for me.

The bi-awakening between the two guys I liked how it was non conflict but I felt one of tne MMCs came off too comfortable to never have hooked up with a guy before. It would be nice to get some background history on that guy‘s journey to better understand where he was coming from.

Overall, this was a good read. I will probably read some of the author's other works as the spicy scenes were good and the story was entertaining.
I appreciated the opportunity to read the ARC of this book.

Reckless Hearts is the kind of book that sneaks up on you with longing, holds you tight with chemistry, and knocks the wind out of you with real emotion. It felt like the kind of summer storm that rolls in out of nowhere—messy, beautiful, and impossible to ignore. I love a good MMF romance, but what made this one hit different? Colt, Maverick, and Callie felt like three whole hearts trying to learn how to beat together again. And I loved every second of it.

J. Wilder has this incredible way of drawing you into her stories. From the moment you start reading, you're completely hooked and there's no turning back. Her writing hits you right in the gut, making you feel every emotional twist and turn. The way she describes desire and heartbreak is just... wow. It's beautiful and sensual at the same time, like reading poetry that makes your heart race.

I’ve read my fair share of MMF and ménage romances, but this one felt grounded in such a real way. These aren't glossy book characters. They’re the kind of characters you'd meet at the local rodeo or catch throwing darts at your favorite dive bar. Each of them comes with baggage, bad decisions, big feelings—and it all works.

From page one, the tension was deliciously palpable. Like the kind that settles in your chest and refuses to let go. Colt, Maverick, and Callie have enough shared history to fill a jukebox—and watching them circle each other (sometimes literally 😏) had me saying “just one more chapter” until it was suddenly 2 a.m.

Their past is tangled with grief and unsaid things, and when it all starts to unravel? It’s slow and so beautifully tender, and oh so complicated, but in the best way. Maverick is the kind of quiet storm that hits you sideways—he says more with one look than most people do in an entire conversation. Colt is the flirty charmer with a smile that hides a canyon’s worth of hurt. And Callie? She’s the soft center holding it all together without even trying. She’s strong without being loud, and I adored her for it.

The spice absolutely delivers (your Kindle might need a cold shower after a few of those scenes), but what made this story stick was the heart. It’s about trust, healing, and rewriting the rules. There’s no third-act breakup here, no unnecessary drama. Just three people trying to figure out how to love each other better the second time around. And y’all know I love a good emotional payoff!! Nothing beats that slow, earned connection that makes your chest ache in the best way.

Is it perfect? Almost, but not quite. I wanted a few emotional moments to hit just a smidgen deeper. But if we’re talking second-chance cowboy romance with all the feels and poly done right? Yeah, Reckless Hearts roped me in and ran away with my heart.

Ready for a romance that blends dust, desire, and deep emotional payoff? This one’s like riding bareback through a storm—and realizing that you were never alone in the saddle. Time to dive in!

A Review that I've made a very long time ago:

❤️Reckless Heart by J. Wilder

🫶 Troupes: MMF, MM scene, bi-awakening, contemporary cowboy romance, small town, bull riders, rivals, childhood friends to enemies to lovers, stand-alone, HEA

🌟 Summary: Wow, it's just wow. I...I can't believe it, I've just read and finish another one of Jessa Wilder's amazing MMF books. It's just so amazing! Overall this book is good with the ansty and the good spice, on the spice level I would say it even had better spice than Rules of our own(Mia, River and Alex's book) and the whole plot, the whole story is good with just enough good and bad. I literally cried when I saw Mia, River and Alex appeared in this book, chapter 50. It was just so crazy, it took me a second to realize it was them when I saw River's name and Alex's name cause at first I was thinking, oh this Mia gurl might be the next book's main character but then I was like wait a minute, wait a minute, throuple? Mia? River? Alex? Those names are so fucking familiar that it hit me, ohhh it's themmm. Then with Callie talking about her troubles to them, Mia giving her advice, it just hits my heart so bad that it hurts, it hurts so much, seeing these old friends coming back to help the new throuple. For a second I almost forgot that Mia, River, Alex's story and Callie, Maverick and Colt's story are by the same author that my mind didn't turn when they first appeared. It feels so comforting, so warm, so nice that these old friends appeared to give advice. But it also hurts so much that I know, Mia, River and Alex's story had ended for reader's view but they are definitely still continuing their life in the book world, I believe that. Just to wrap this emotional speech up, this book was definitely amazing, 5 star to the story, 5 star to the spice, really love Jessa Wilder's MMF story(dynamic), would love to see more MMF from her. For now, signing off, byeee Xoxo❤️ Ps: Maybe we'll have another book like a novella just like Rules We Break(A continuation novella story of Mia, River and Alex)❤️ Finished on 12 June

ARC Review 📖
Reckless Hearts
Reckless Love Standalone Series
Written by J. Wilder
@jwilderauthor

There is something to be said about a story that involves the FMC coming back to her hometown and seeing her childhood best friends after 8 years.

It gives me all the feels and not only that but that they all had stronger feelings than just best friends so you mix in the longing between them and what could have been if she just stayed and you have me wanting to devour their story. Jessa hooked me at Chapter one already and makes me super curious as to how their story will unfold.

I just know this book is going to tug at my heart strings and I'm here for it. The dynamic between them is just too good. I love how Maverick is the one that can read both of them like a book and knows what they need even if Colt is a little resistant at first. That Callie is the piece that was missing in both their lives. They were not truly living until she came back, because she brings sunshine into both of their lives and makes it worth living. I swoon every time they describe how they feel about each other. You just know they're meant to be.

This book was everything I hoped it would be and more I love these three together and I loved the journey I went on with them. I was so emotionally invested with these characters.

Ps. I couldn't just pick one quote this time. So a quote from each of them. 💜

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

There’s something about a cowboy romance that just hits different — that wild freedom, that raw masculinity, that soft vulnerability hidden under layers of stubborn pride and tight jeans. "Reckless Hearts" gave me all of that, and then some.

This book felt like being pulled into a rodeo of emotions — three friends reconnecting after 8 years. I love MMF romance and this was done nicely. There were little moments when I wasn't buying the connection between them, but I loved how the story wasn't just about love, but also identity, purpose, and healing.

Also, — call me obsessed, but the bull riding? Legit fascinating. I didn’t think I’d be so into it, but now I’m fully invested and looking for more romance books with bull riding cowboys. Give me more dirt, danger, and adrenaline-fueled arenas, please.

And here’s the real kicker that had me grinning like a fool: no third-act breakup. I was so happy about it!

Why not five stars? A few moments where the pacing dipped or things felt slightly undercooked emotionally. But damn, it still gave me the warm fuzzies and made me fall hard for that cowboy swagger and that soft, hidden heart.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Hands down, this woman can write anything and I WILL buy it.

Let’s talk about it…

Callie: a ray of sunshine but a pocket full of sass.
Maverick: the tall, brooding, quiet stoic cowboy.
Colt: the other tall cowboy, but with a panty-dropping charm.

My god, the tension in this book. You can feel it from the first page. But it unravels slowly (in the best kind of way), and each longing look makes you want more.

Callie has scars that run deep and the way her boys look after her without prying, it’s beautiful to read.

I can’t recommend this book enough!
If you’re after a MMF, childhood best friends to rivals to lovers romance. This is the book for you!

Ps, the cameo at the end, I SCREAMED. My babies were right there!!

1.5
I'm rounding up because I liked the development of Maverick and Colt's relationship.

The pacing was weird in some points and Callie was just there, I sincerely ended up knowing practically nothing about her. She kind of felt more like a plot device than a character :/

Another thing I found annoying is that in 8 years away from them she didn't find ANY meaningful relationships? no friends, no colleagues? She communicates with her mom like 2 times at the beginning and then there are no more messages with her?

One of the things I dislike most is when the main character, specifically FMC's, have no friends, or one tops. I get that sometimes it is complicated to add more characters to the story because it may affect length or pacing, but it also makes the lead characters feel flat.

Anyways, sorry for the rant but yeah, 1.5 rounded up because Mav and Colt are cute u.u

I've always loved the idea of childhood friends turned lovers. This is an MMF story about friends, turned enemies, turned to lovers. It was really well written and I thoroughly enjoyed reading Callie, Maverick and Colt's story. Callie left town years earlier and came back eight years later. Maverick and Colt lost their friendship somewhere along the way and became rivals. Callie makes it her mission to bring everyone back together. Maverick and Colt are somewhat opposites, Maverick being the broody, rough around the edges type and Colt is charming and easygoing. But somehow together they just work. Add Callie to the mix and the relationship is perfect. I look forward to reading more books from this author.

Reckless Hearts by J. Wilder is a swoony, spicy MMF friends to rivals to lovers romance that hits all the right notes.

Callie returns home after 8 years to spend one summer with her childhood best friends, Colt and Maverick. Colt is playful and charming, Maverick is broody and protective and together, they’re everything she’s ever wanted.

Their connection is deep, the chemistry is electric, and the emotional payoff is so satisfying. If you love small-town cowboys, found-again love, and perfectly balanced poly dynamics, this book delivers it all.

3.75⭐

I really loved the book and I find it to be cozy, without any third act break-up, the love story was beautifully written. It could have been easily 4/4.5 stars, but the thing that bothered me were the sex scenes because some of them were, yes, hot but others were unrealistic! and sometimes you can accept that the sex is not really like describe in books but DVP without any preparation? come on

Did J Wilder just lasso me into my cowboy romance era?

I absolutely loved this story! The book just jumps right in the story when Callie comes home to see Colt and Maverick. For some closure. But the boys don’t see it that way. They let her go once and it won’t happen again.

It was heartwarming and heart wrenching, without a lot of unnecessary angst. I love the way J Wilder weaves and builds her relationships.

And the 🌶️! Whew 🥵

I can’t wait for more cowboy romance from this author.

If you love MMF romance, rival bull riders, and a love triangle that’s as reckless as it is irresistible, this one’s for you. Colt and Maverick were once inseparable—now they’re rivals, fighting in the arena and for the same woman. Loving two cowboys isn’t just reckless—it’s heartbreak waiting to happen. But some love stories are worth the risk.

This story sucked up into a tornado from the first page. Two men that were like brothers broke when the woman they cared for left for eight years. Callie blows back in and causing all kind of feelings to flare up between Maverick and Colt. Very entertaining story.

A fun, flirty, and steamy wild ride.

Reckless Hearts was truly a lot of fun, totally didn’t expect to get emo but I did. A great balance between story and spice. And loved that each of the throuple had a pov cause I throughly enjoyed getting to see their thoughts and how they started to fall for one another in their perspective it was very sweet.

Thank you to Smuthood and J Wilder for the ARC
