It's Christmastime in Hillside, but there's a lack of holiday spirit for flower shop owner Quincy McKay. She's in charge of the town festival and her shop's open house, but her Santa's a no-show and her flower cooler is on the fritz. To make matters worse, she's learned her ex-husband isn't as ex as she'd thought. Just when she thought things couldn't get any worse, her boyfriend, hot cop Alex Cooper announces his parents are coming to town.
Alex Cooper is the perfect man in Quincy's book, but unfortunately his mother thinks so too. And no woman is perfect enough for her perfect son, but especially not the weird flower shop girl who works too much, can't cook and who she catches kissing another man in the department store. And what's this she hears about Quincy being married? Eleanor Cooper must help her son dodge a bullet (and not the kind from his job) during the romantic holiday season to prevent him from being ensnared in a regrettable relationship.
Quincy's dignity (of which lately she's in short supply), her reputation, and every business in town are riding upon the success of the city's Christmas celebration. If she can figure out a way to make it work despite failing equipment, helpers dropping out of the picture as fast as snowflakes in a blizzard, a troubling and inappropriate Secret Santa, and the possibility of arrest, she might win the respect of everyone in the town, but more importantly, Alex's parents.
If Alex can survive his loving but meddling mother until Christmas, and keep Quincy safe from her crazy ex-husband, with a little help from the MLM (Mormon Ladies Mafia), and K.C. the she-Santa, he'll arrange for the perfect holiday for himself and the woman who has captured his heart.
Annie Adams is the author of THE FINAL ARRANGEMENT, book one in The Flower Shop Mystery series. She lives with her husband, two giant dogs, and two too giant cats in Northern Utah at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains. When not writing she can be found arranging flowers or delivering them in her own Zombie Delivery Van.
A fun Christmas read set in Mormon Utah. This is an entry in a cozy mystery series without a dead body. I think the only mystery in the book was who the main character's Secret Santa was.
I thought it was cute and fun, and am interested in what the other books in the series are like.
This is the third Of a boxed set by Annie Adams and I found it to be the funniest. Of course that could be my twisted sense of humor when you put a mom together with a girlfriend. Add irritating an ex-husband and for me you have a funny story. I hope there will be more to come in the series.
I liked this book, in fact I loved the whole series! But this book will always be special to me for a personal reason. On January 1, 2014, I made a challenge on this website to read 100 books this year. "A Christmas Arrangement" was my 100th book!!! I know this is silly and I know no one else really cares, but I'm so proud of myself. On January 1, 2015, I'll try it again but I'm going to shoot for 125. Thanks you, Annie Adams, for writing a very special book! And Merry Christmas to everyone!
UPDATE...SEPTEMBER 23, 2016 I wanted something fun and romantic to read, so I brought out one of my favorite series and favorite authors. It still makes me laugh!
Quinella/Quincy McKay has taken over her aunt’s florist shop, Rosie’s Posies. Every day she tries not to let her down. Christmas means the annual flower shop open house and Hillside’s Annual Festival. Quincy is juggling a lot of snowballs for both events. Where is she going to find another Santa? To add to the stress the store’s flower cooler is running more hot than cold, her ex-husband shows up with a huge announcement, her boyfriend Alex’s parents are coming to town for the holidays, and on top of all that, she seems to have a secret admirer.
The core characters in this series are so much fun. Quincy, her parents, her employees, and her boyfriend all pull together to make the festival and the open house go off even better than planned. Alex’s mother is no fan of Quincy’s and there was a comedy of errors at a holiday dinner but when Alex’s parents arrive during a very scary situation they don’t miss a beat stepping in to help.
There were some sweet moments like Quincy’s neighbors dropping Christmas treats daily. What a wonderful neighborhood holiday tradition. The “secret admirer” left some fun and interesting gifts too. Quincy had a mystery on her hands figuring out who the secret Santa was.
This Christmas story was heavy on romance and emotions but filled with humor on almost every page. The predicaments Quincy gets herself into had me laughing out loud. One was as terrifying as it was funny. The ending was heartwarming and sweet.
A Christmas Arrangement / Blood Under The Mistletoe is a perfect story that will get you in the Christmas spirit, and that is one of the reasons I picked up this book to read now. Heavy things here on the homefront and in the world, in general, had my spirit at a low point. After reading previous books written by this author I knew I would treated to sweet times with plenty of humor and be delightfully entertained and I was. No matter the title, this book was a Perfect Escape.
*This book is from my private collection. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Fun, challenging and fun. I enjoyed this seasonal Flower Shop Mystery. Quincy and Alex's families meet. Prejudices and ignorance rule the day. This story kept me engaged in one quick read right to the end.
"Ex-husband, Randall," I managed to say, pushing the words past the lump in my throat.
This was a delightful addition to the Flower Shop Mystery series. There was not a murder and Quincy didn't get caught up in catching a killer. Instead, she meets Alex' mother and father while living her madcap life. Quincy also discovers that her divorce was never final because her husband never signed the papers.
I enjoyed the sweetness of Quincy and Alex' romance. It was nice to have a cozy with no dead bodies. Alex' mom was a force to be reckoned with. Poor Quincy showed her quite a bit of her crazy side.
Of course, everything ends well for involved. I look forward to seeing where the series may go from here.
Quincy McKay got out of an abusive marriage and now owned a flower shop. She met Alex Cooper who was a cop and treated her way different than her ex. Quincy didn't know how to handle this so it was quite a wake up for her - to be treated the way a woman should be treated.
The characters in A Christmas Arrangement were wonderful. Once Quincy got away from her ex, she became a strong person who started a business and stood up to her mother. As a mother she was scary but as a character she was funny. Quincy's mom was a member of a group of women Quincy called the MLM (Morman Ladies Mafia). "One tidbit from a member of the MLM could be spread through the telephone calling tree system faster than a cold through a kindergarten class." Alex was a kind and caring man - just what Quincy needed but his mother was another story. She was so nasty to Quincy that Quincy hated it when they were together.
This is a good Christmas romance with lots of emotional scenes that help put you in the spirit of the season. There was a lot of humorous events as well as suspenseful ones too.
This month has been spent reading Christmas based stories. I have read other books by Annie Adams in the past and enjoyed them very much. So thought I would give this one a shot. Imagine my surprise when this book started up right where the last one left off. What a great coincidence. Enjoy all of the characters. Great read!
This is such a sweet and funny story. Meeting your significant others parents for the first time is no joke, let alone at Christmas. There is no shortage of excitement for Quincy at this time of year.
Quincy has a lot to do at Christmas and she wasn't expecting meeting Alex's parents to be one of them. She's hydroplaning the town's Christmas event as well as getting her Shop ready for the holidays. She really does like Christmas but this year she is lacking that holiday spirit. Alex is away working for their first Christmas together.
All the neighbors leave gifts for each other as the holidays approach. Quincy is receiving some extra special mystery gifts. She believes they are from Alex but something doesn't seem right.
Read this book to find out where the gifts are coming from and how the meeting of the parents goes. Can Quincy manage to make it through the holiday with her sanity in tack.
This series started as a mystery series and ended up as light romantic series. The mystery element has been vanishing since the first book. If you read this as a teen romance kind of a series, you will enjoy it. Dont read it for the mystery quotient.
Nice, fun & comical read. I enjoy reading the light hearted & comical books in this Flower Shop Mystery Series. I just love Quincy's character. She has "Murphy's Law" mastered!
I 💘 all of ANNIE S BOOKS and am anxiously waiting for more. They have a remarkable sense of the MLM green jello and EVERYTHING LDS.. I KNOW BECAUSE I AM ONE TOO.
Quincy meets Alex's parents and everything that could go wrong, did, from costume malfunctions to weather to her mom's friends carolling. Funny throughout.
What a fun and engaging story to read! I was nervous at first that the story would take a turn I was not going to like and she would end up with the wrong man. Thankfully though the author had more sense than that! I adore that the heroine has a name that starts with Q! Since I was raised around the same area the story is set in I picked up on many of the area's cultural jokes. The MLM completely cracks me up, as it truly is a true description of a tight group of religious ladies watching over their little town! The situations Q found herself in remind me of my own embarrassing moments dating and falling in love. From a laughing, hysterical s situation to the emotional ending, I really enjoyed this novella. As excellent as a Hallmark movie on a cold, snowy night!
Quincy finally met someone that cared for her, that treated her with respect. She had been married and her ex was very abusive, she had dug deep and finally got out. Now she was loved and she loved it.
What did I like? This was a very emotional story and I loved the fact that Quincy found the reserve in herself to get out of her abusive marriage and find herself, to make a life for herself, start her own business and make it work but also to reconnect with her family.
What will you life? Your going to find a storyline that is VERY developed with lots of research that shows on every page. Down right funny and very loving, showing how a woman should be treated. A woman that still has emotional scars but can reach deep and get past most of them. Connected with friends and family with lots of support from all of them. But most of all a story filled with humor and Christmas spirit. I really enjoyed this story and could not put it down. I loved how Quincy finally dealt with Alex's parents and the funny things that all went wrong to make them all right. This will be a Christmas re-read for many years to come.
The Christmas Arrangement was fun - an entertaining read. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters in this book. Now, this is unfair to the author, but I was really annoyed at first because I was under the impression it was a cozy mystery when in fact, it’s a light-hearted, humorous romance. Part of my confusion was due to the fact I found this book in a cozy mystery thread on Goodreads, and the other part was because this is part of a mystery series. But, I enjoyed the story so much that I dropped my annoyance of waiting for a victim, waiting for a murder investigation, waiting for what I thought was foreshadowing and clues to pan out – that when I finished reading, I went straight to the first book in this series, The Final Arrangement.
Some of the crazy situations Quincy (the main character) got into were so far-fetched you knew they were contrived (breaking that fourth wall) but Quincy was such a delight to read that I didn’t mind. The humor was seamless, the action gripping, the suspense delicious and the characters awesome.
After enjoying the first two books in the series, this one left me feeling a little let down. Quincy's usual antics were in play but there was a lack of any true mystery. I do like that through the series, Quincy seems to have become a strong, successful and confident woman. The humor that I had enjoyed before seemed to become over the top and way overdone. There was a happy ending, so it was worth the read.
Wow, I've just been introduced to this series and I love Quincy (Quinella), plus her interesting family and quirky friends and foils. She has a chunky boyfriend, whose attributes that most of the women in their quaint town fully appreciate. She also has a talent for sleuthing, and along with her faithful crew, solves crimes which makes for fun and delightful reading.
Really enjoyed this book. Was very well written and quite festive. Was a good book and finished the series up quite well. Turned out just how I was hoping. I really wish there was more books now on this same couple or even the others in the book. I have recommended this series to a few others. I can not wait for them to read it. I really enjoyed the writing of this author.
I love the constant excitement and humor of visiting my friends at Rosies Posies. The characters are so fun and wacky that you never know what will happen next. Can Alex handle the next disaster that Quincy finds herself in? K.C. is so funny and has no filter at all!
Yes, it's June and I'm reading a Christmas book!!! My only problem with this book is it wasn't long enough. Yes I know it wasn't a short story but I hate seeing a good book end!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Why is her ex bothering her again. Why do Alex's parents seem to hate her. Who keeps leaving stuff at her house it isn't her boyfriend. It is turning into a tough Xmas season to get through.
In my Kindle this book is called “Blood Under the Mistletoe,” so don’t worry about the thought of being in the wrong book of this series.
I am actually beginning to like Quincy despite her constant insane thoughts and actions. She had a touch of grinch in this read, but then like the grinch her heart grew a few sizes larger. She also gained a sweet “boyfriend” besides Alex toward the end.
Then Alex surprised Quincy and that’ll all work its way out in the next book or book 5.
Next book is book 4, “Forget Me Not.” However, book 4 isn’t available until January 15, 2025 even though on GoodReads there book was released in 2018. Mmkay. Book 4 is actually named “So Then There Were None,” according to Amazon and it’s only available in paperback and not Kindle. This entire series must have gotten a facelift, because none of the titles match amongst Amazon Kindle and GoodReads.
Know what, since I can’t read book 4 right now I’m going to read the newest release by Tonya Kappes from her Camper & Criminals Cozy Mystery series, book 39, “Snowcaps, Skiing, & Sabotage.”
See you in my next review. Deuces to your cabooses! ~ themoodyredhead ✨🫶🏼✨
A Christmas Arrangement has such a cute holiday cover that fits the book so well. This third book in Annie Adams' Flower Shop Mystery series does not involve a murder. What it does have is Quincy McKay, Alex Cooper, KC, family members, an ex-husband, Hillside's big holiday celebration, a Secret Santa, and a new opportunity for Quincy's sister Annie. The line I liked best is this book is, "The McKay family express was barreling down the tracks with no engineer on board." The author makes it easy to visualize the events which makes it delightful to read.
This was a great story about Christmas that was fun. The story had a comedy tilt to it. The characters were fun and a bit quirky. Quincy the owner of a flower shop was the perfect female lead. Her hot police boyfriend, Alex was perfect for her. I was in the floral business for 35 years and owned my own flower shop for 27 years. This book got everything right about the floral business. The best Christmas story I read this season!
