Jeremiah Jacobs moved to the Ozarks for a fresh start. He knows no one and has no plans to get romantically involved with anyone. Ever. He’s already had his heart ripped out once and once is enough. Besides he has contractual obligations that prevent him from talking about work - and what woman would want to be involved with a man who has to keep his job a secret? When he attends his first local writers’ group meeting, he finds the leader so intriguing, his instant attraction to her threatens to complicate his currently uncomplicated life.
Dorrie Miller has never been good enough. Not for her father or any of the guys she’s dated in the past. She’s pushed beyond her father’s disapproval to have a good career while pursuing her dream of becoming a published novelist. The Christian Authors Network – Dedicated to Inspirational Distinction, or CANDID, is hosting their annual conference in Indianapolis and who’s rumored to be in attendance? The super reclusive, super-star author, Mya Elizabeth Linscott.
The hunky new member of her local CANDID group, Jeremiah, wants to carpool to Indy. Dorrie can handle not making a fool of herself for eight hours each way. Right? But she never imagined doing a favor for someone during the conference would leave her accidentally married to the gorgeous guy she barely knows. How will she get out of this mess, married to a near stranger? Does she want to? Will her insecurities and Jeremiah’s secrets tear them apart? Or can she trust that, all along, God’s been helping her with Finding Mr. Write?
When she's not writing about her imaginary friends, Carol Moncado is hanging out with her husband, four kids, and a dog who weighs less than most hard cover books. She prefers watching NCIS to just about anything, except maybe watching Castle. She believes peanut butter M&Ms are the perfect food and Dr. Pepper should come in an IV. When not watching her kids - and the dog - race around her big backyard in Southwest Missouri, she's teaching American Government at a local community college. She's a founding member and President of MozArks ACFW, category coordinator for First Impressions, blogger at InspyRomance, and represented by Tamela Hancock Murray of The Steve Laube Agency.
Oh goodness, I just loved this book! I love it when I read a new author and immediately feel pulled right into the story. That's what happened with just the first paragaph of Finding Mr. Write.
Dorrie Miller is a young woman who has never felt good enough; not to her father or mother, men she's dated. She wants more than anything in the world to be a published novelist, writing Christian fiction. There's going to be a Christian conference for authors and Dorrie is going. Her all time favorite author, the reclusive Mya Elizabeth Linscott, is rumored to be there and Dorrie is determined to get signed copies of her books. Plans are made to catch this author in person by Dorrie and her friends.
Jeremiah Jacobs moved to just start over. He hasn't any friends in the new city he's moved to, nor does he have plans to get romantically involved with anyone. Ever again. Period. Jeremiah is a writer and intends going to the same conference as Dorrie, but a physical ailment at the last minute prevents him from flying, so he tries to find someone to carpool with.
Dorrie is the only one he can ride with. Jeremiah is a super handsome man and Dorrie hopes she can keep from making a fool of herself on the drive there and back. Eight hours!
Then Dorrie finds herself accidentally married to Jeremiah. What in the world just happened? Will Dorrie trust God that His plans for her to have a future and prosper could mean something as harebrained as a pretend marriage? Stranger things have happened. But there are so many doubts and insecurities and secrets between Dorrie and Jeremiah. To find that out, you must get the book.
This debut novel from Carol Moncado is like a breath of fresh air. She has crafted characters that feel real from the moment the reader first sees their name on a page. The writing is never forced, there is not just filler in this book. Every word counts and means somethng to someone.
Carol Moncado has, I think, what it takes to be a wonderful addition to the Christian fiction world. She is now on my list of favorite authors, one whose work I will eagerly look forward to.
There are spiritual lessons to be learned here, plus a wonderful and precious romance. I just loved this book! It *felt good*. There are not many times you pick up a book and it just grabs you from the very first. It made me happy to read Finding Mr. Write. I've learned she has 5 more books due before the end of the year! I think I have just found my Christmas present.
If you read this book, you will not be disappointed. I promise.
*I was provided an advanced reader copy of this book by the author in exchange for my honest review, which I have given.*
Great story! One thing that I loved most about this story was that it was so very different from any story I have ever read. As an avid reader, I often find myself wondering, once I've stared a book, if I have already read it before. That was certainly not the case with this one. I look forward to more from this author! :)
The concept was good, but I found it a little hard to swallow overall. There were also a few typos and also some confusing pronoun usage (at least in the digital version), which always annoys me.
Appreciate the author taking on the question of building a loving relationship with an arranged marriage. However I found the ploy to have the couple in an arranged marriage fairly unrealistic.
I almost gave this book 2 stars then decided upon 3 stars by the time I finished it. Unfortunately, there were many typographical and grammatical errors in the kindle version. Many times throughout the story I was confused as to which character was speaking or thinking.
This was a contemporary story about a marriage of convenience. At first I thought it a bit silly that two intelligent people could find themselves "accidentally married" but I kept reading anyway because there was a strong attraction between Jeremiah and Dorrie. I was curious to see how the two authors would make their marriage work.
Dorrie had always felt unloved and unwanted by her parents, especially her father, so she had trust issues. Jeremiah had been married before to a wife who had cheated on him. Although he'd vowed never to marry again he took his vows seriously once he found himself wed to Dorrie. He tried very hard to make their relationship work, giving Dorrie space to accept the situation. The secret he kept from her was obvious from the start, and it threatened to distance Dorrie from him once she found out, but his love and support for her won in the end.
There were no detailed sex scenes in this novel. Intimacy was behind closed doors between newly weds. Overall I found this book a pleasant read.
This is my first book by this author. I don't know if I'm up for trying any of her others. The premise is promising, the book starts out well, Dorrie seems like a good heroine and Jeremiah is an excellent hero pretty much from beginning to end, minus a few slips in situations that were pretty darned understandable.
SPOILERS AHEAD The fake marriage is painfully and cringeworthily contrived. Jeremiah is at least trying his best to make things work, but Dorrie has become an emotional drama case.
By the time she learns what most readers will have figured out pretty early on in the story, she becomes a full fledged sulky brat because Jeremiah has been a man of honor by being a man of his word - therefore she can't trust him? What? How can any Christian woman be oblivious to the fact that being a man of honor MEANS HE IS TRUSTWORTHY. I can't understand why we're supposed to believe that Jeremiah loves her when I as a reader can't even like her.
And all of this is BEFORE we even get to the ridiculousness of the idea that God would hold people to vows that they are only pretending to make. Words are not like magic spells - our intentions actually do matter.
Carol Moncado turns the marriage of convenience theme on its ear when handsome, mysterious Jeremiah and spunky longing-to-be-published writer Dorrie find themselves in a marriage of inconvenience. Thrown together first by a love of writing and then by a photo shoot gone wrong, Moncado's hero and heroine build and challenge their budding relationship through events that had me laughing, nodding my head, and turning the pages as quick as I could. As much of a homage to the Christian writing world as it is a romance, readers will appreciate this view into the struggles of those who long to be published and want to be loved.
Absolute lovely read. A book that grabs your interest from page one. Christian, humorous romance. This was my first read of this author and diffently will not be the last. This marriage of convenience/inconvenience between the hero and heroine is used by the author to bring in Bibical marriage, but in a humorous way. I was given this book for an honest review.y
Dottie Miller could not believe her eyes at the Prince Caspian look a like that walked into the local CANDID meeting. Nor would she believe his story would become hers. Jeremiah Jacobs was struck by Caribbean blue of the girl's eyes. He'd fallen in love before and what did it get him; nothing but heartache. But he couldn't get those eyes and that girl out of his head.
I really should have given 5 stars, I greatly appreciated the theme of marriage and trust in this story and enjoyed the set up of the plot! Thank God for writers like you,and God bless you and your family and all those that inspired you. I also might be a bit biased because I love everything about Missouri, springfield😁😊 I will definitely recommend this to my sister who recently found her "happily ever after" and now lives in Springfield,Missouri.
This is one of Carol Moncado's best Christian fiction books! It was so exciting that I had a hard time not reading it constantly even to sleep! Each detail on the characters kept my complete attention and I was almost sorry when it finished. This author never disappoints in bringing a fantastic story while always emphasizing a trust and faith in God. Looking forward to reading her next book, Finally Mr. Write!
I loved the story of Dottie and Jeremiah...couldn’t put this book down! Dottie’s honesty and vulnerability and Jeremiah’s tender ways drew me to them. The story includes a bad guy, a secret (Jeremiah’s) and a group of supportive and fun friends. I can’t wait to read the next book!
Carol Moncado has done a marvelous job showing the many ups, downs, and hoops involved in becoming a published writer in “Finding Mr. Write”. I was immediately pulled into the story. The twists and turns were angst filled, but all things are possible through Christ. Wonderful, page turning happily ever after read.
Now that a twist on the Meet Cute premise of a romance. I appreciated multiple scripture references and an active Church around him. Dorrie lets her insecurities drive a wedge until he reads the riot act to her father for the way she is treated. So that finally seals the deal. She needed someone she could trust that valued her as she was.
I have enjoyed all of the books by Carol that I've read to date. I'm looking forward to reading more in the future. This was a unique story line that I had not encountered in other stories.
This was a well written, lovely, clean and enticing read. The characters and the plot and subplots had me going and I loved it all. It was the first book by Carol Moncado that I've read and I've found a new favorite author! :)
Dorrie and Jeremiah end of legally married and struggle, as Christians, to figure things out. This is a charming and exciting Christtian romance. Kudos to Mis. Moncado for adding adventure to the mix. The main characters are writers which pleases me.
This was a delightful read. Being an author myself, I loved all the author-specific things in the storyline. Even the title was a definite pull for me. The story moves along nicely with some unexpected twists and turns. Well done, Carol!
This was the first book that I ever read from Carol... It hooked me. I then got my mom hooked too. We both wait anxiously for each new book. I love this book, and I love all of Carol's other books.
The book was longer than I expected given the story line, but very well written. I appreciate a clean christian novel that draws you in. Will definitely look for other books from this author.
After finding themselves married accidentally, the pursuit of this man to his wife is unheard of but what a wonderful feeling of true dedication to his wife.
This was the first book I’ve read for pleasure in the past 3 years and this was a great one to start with! Everything flowed pretty well and was very easy to read.
