I am even questioning myself as to how unsure I feel about this book...

I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. The first half of the book flew by and I was really engaged with the story along with the characters, but unfortunately the second half dragged quite a bit. It felt like it could have been trimmed down and tightened up significantly.

I usually love a Susan Lewis book, but her last couple have been a bit of a letdown for me, and Never Look Back continues that trend. It isn't a bad read by any means, just not as compelling or memorable as I've come to expect of her.

This was my first read by this author & the third book in the Cristy Ward series, but one that can definitely be read as a standalone without the feeling of missing out on anything.

The story being investigated through the means of a podcast is a novel way of uncovering the facts, relying on the fact that the case to the outside world, and most importantly the police, doesn’t seem to hold it’s ground due to Romy seemingly declaring all is well on social media. Perfectly pitched for the clue reveals, the suspense is kept throughout although I did feel the pacing dipped slightly in the middle.

This book provides another insight into the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) & the negative impact it can have, in this instance being exploited by cyber criminals. Whilst there are some positives to its use it is an important reminder of the dangers of reliance on technology, the author cleverly using well-researched techniques to demonstrate that in this title.

Insights from previous titles in the series are given so as not to confuse the readers, like myself, who may not have read these, especially in relation to Cristy’s current relationship status. An enjoyable journey & introduction to an author I would definitely read more by.

3.75 / 5.0

Great book from Lewis building from the events of the previous book. It’s a great read, but I can understand for folks reading this book for the first time it can be a sore head to read (and understand the dynamics) I really recommend those that are interested in this series to start from the beginning. The first comment I’ll say is how much smaller this book is compared to the last two, the first one being over 500 pages this book is around 350 pages which is a lot more manageable and easier to deal with. I do have to admit that this plot didn’t have as much of the suspense as it did have in the previous other books, it is unpredictable (although I guessed the culprit very easily from the start). I also like how we see Cristy Ward develop both professionally and personally as she navigates her hectic life.

The centres around Romy Kaplan’s husband who drowned to his death six weeks ago. Now Romy is missing. Social media posts starts to appear on social media asking eveyrone that she is well and to stop looking for her. The police see this as a grieving widow need some space to process her husbands death. However Romy friends and family know somethings up and she wouldn’t just disappear wouldn’t letting them know. Now Cristy Ward, true crime podcast host picks up Romy case - where is Romy?

It’s a great read from start to finish. I found the topics discussed very current to the environment we face in our lives with the rise of technology advancing further than we have anticipated. It touches light on the potential problems we may face in the future. Definitely got my eyes peeled for the next one!

⚠️ CW: cancer, parental death, suicide, fraud, violence, murder ⚠️ If you're looking for a twisted, terrifying and all too modern thriller centering around the dangers of AI then you need to pick up this book! Rudi Kaplan is dead and now his wife, Romy, has vanished from her home. Or has she? When Romy begins posting on her social media accounts asking everyone to stop looking for her, the police are certain she is safe. But Romy's nearest and dearest are far from convinced. Her husband died in the bath under inconclusive circumstances six weeks ago. And Romy would never disappear without telling someone where she is going. As true crime podcast host, Cristy Ward, picks up Romy's case, now she now has the whole world asking - where is Romy? This book had me absolutely mesmerised from beginning to end. The use of AI fraud in this case was so scary, especially with how normalised AI is becoming in our modern world. I honestly cannot stop raving about this book, it's definitely my favourite in this series so far and I'm so excited to see what happens next for Cristy Ward and the Hindsight podcast. Overall, I highly recommend this read!

Another Christy Ward book from Susan Lewis and they just keep getting better.

An old colleague of Christy's asks her to look into her godmothers disappearance, as the police are not going to as Romy has been posting videos on her socials saying she is okay and taking a break after her beloved husband died a few weeks earlier, in strange circumstances. Christy is not sure that this case would be a good fit for her and Connors podcast, as they normally deal with cold cases and not live ones, but something intrigues them both about this case.

With the full team on board, they start looking into the circumstances, of Romy's "break" and her husband's drowning, and if the two are connected.

This book is full of twists and turns, and as amazing as it is, it is also scary as.... As details unfold you can feel how our future is going to go, very soon if stricter laws are not out in place to combat new and emerging technology. I don't want to say too much as I don't want to spoil this story.

This is a fantastic book, but I do suggest you read the first two, before this one to lay a good foundation, as it does look at the main characters personal lives as well throughout all 3 books. I hope that Susan will write more Christy Ward books and this is not just a trilogy 🙏

Christy Ward and her co-host Connor are back with their podcast 'Hindsight' where they try to unravel mysteries brought to them by others.

Christy is approached by a young woman, Layla, who is extremely worried and suspicious about the whereabouts of her mums best friend and her godmother Romy. Romy's husband Rudi died under inconclusive circumstances very recently, and now Romy seems to have vanished into thin air. No messages, no phone calls, no contact whatsoever. The only form of communication has been a few videos on her social media, saying what a wonderful time she is having travelling, but she hasn't replied to any comment or plea's from worried friends for her to contact them. For someone who has always put others before herself, Layla is worried that Romy has come to harm

When Christy receives a very unsettling voice message *no spoilers* she decides there is no way she is letting this one go and does everything in her power to unravel the mystery of Romy's disappearance and Rudi's death.

Alongside the case, we also once again delve into Christy's personal life, which is just as encompassing as the main story line!

This is a tale that tied me up in knots with the number of twists and turns it had, you think you're on the right path and then it spins you around and sends you on your way again!

The use of AI was absolute perfection, especially in this day and age when we no longer know what's real or 'fake news'. The fact that not only faces but actual videos can be created along with a pitch perfect voice is actually terrifying.

While this could be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading at least the previous installment so you can get a good idea of the characters and their backstories.

Twisty, gripping, thought provoking, and fantastically written. Roll on book #4.

Romy Kaplan is posting on social media but nobody can get in touch with her and her phone goes directly to voicemail. Her closest friend, Beth, who is dying of cancer is very worried and through her daughter enlists the help of the Hindsight podcast team to investigate.
The story unfolds through the eyes of Cristy Ward who along with Connor and Clove runs the podcast. With dogged determination they dig into the mysetery of where Romy has gone and who she might be with. Aided by Beth's daughter, Layla, and various specialist teams they uncover a deep dark conspiracy.
The writing is smooth and the whole book is an easy read, with lots of action and twists to keep the plot moving forward. Cristy is a great character, with her own back story and life as well as the investigation she is undertaking. Dialogue is natural and unforced and the occasional slips into the podcast material are a great way of getting background information across.
The main issue of the crime at the centre of the novel feels very timely to, with the amount in the news about cyber theft and the use of AI.
I enjoyed the read, very much, my only issue being with Romy who appears too good to be true and whom I really want to shake into some sense of reality by the end, but perhaps that's just me not being as nice a person as she is!

It is over twenty-five years ago that I first read a novel by Susan Lewis and I have continued to read her writing from time to time over the years. She is a prolific author, who writes across a broad range of genre, crime, thrillers, suspense and family drama.

'Never Look Back' sees the return for a third story of podcasters Christy and Connor and their team with another mystery for 'Hindsight' their podcast. This time the company has been approached by a friend, as a close friend of their family has disappeared. they are worried about her safety as her behaviour is very out of character. Christy and Connor have doubts about the suitability of this live case for 'Hindsight' but curiosity gets the better of them and they decide to try and unravel the mystery.

In inevitable Susan Lewis style this cautionary tale for our times will keep you guessing and the use of Artificial Intelligence is particularly disturbing! Although the books in this series stand alone, reading them all in order enhances the understanding of the relationships between the characters. Recommended to those readers following the series, fans of mystery and the authors many fans.

This is the third book in the Cristy Ward series and definitely the best so far. Cristy is a true crime podcast host who is asked by a previous colleague to investigate the disappearance of her godmother Romy. The police don't think anything is amiss as Romy has been posting videos on social media alongside comments saying she is fine and just taking time out following the recent death of her husband.

Full of twists, turns and red herrings this intriguing tale kept me hooked right to the end. Susan Lewis is a master of suspense and deflection, taking the reader down a particular path then blindsiding them with a few well chosen paragraphs. This is a multi layered plot with the final truth extremely disturbing. Without giving too much away it is a stark and scary reminder of why we need very strict laws around advances in technology.

'Never Look Back' can be read as a stand-alone however I am really enjoying the character development of Cristy, her slightly dysfunctional family and Connor, her colleague, To get the full enjoyment it is worth reading the first two books in the series first.

Highly recommended for fans of taut, gripping psychological thrillers with a rich and engaging back story running through the series.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK, HarperFiction for my advanced reader copy in return for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Susan Lewis delivers another gripping thriller that blends emotional depth with edge-of-your-seat suspense. Never Look Back opens with a chilling mystery: Romy Kaplan has vanished, and her cryptic social media posts only deepen the confusion. Is she truly safe, or is something far more sinister unfolding?

The story unfolds through the lens of Cristy Ward, a true crime podcast host whose curiosity becomes obsession. As Cristy digs deeper into Romy's disappearance and the suspicious death of her husband, Lewis masterfully peels back layers of secrets, grief, and betrayal.

What makes this novel shine is its elegant pacing and emotionally resonant characters. Romy’s voice—haunting and elusive—lingers long after the final page. And Cristy, with her dogged determination and vulnerability, anchors the narrative with authenticity.

Lewis’s prose is smooth and evocative, never overwrought, and the twists are smartly placed—just when you think you’ve figured it out, she pulls the rug out from under you.

Perfect for fans of psychological thrillers with a human heart, Never Look Back is a compelling reminder that the truth is rarely simple, and sometimes, looking back is the only way forward.

As usual in my reviews, I will not rehash the plot or the publisher's blurb!

I've read a lot of books by Susan Lewis, so was delighted to be invited to read this novel - I was not disappointed.

This novel features the "podcast team" from the earlier books - headed up by Cristy. Some of the same characters appear - including Cristy's ex-husband, her beau David and family, and of course the podcast team - with a few new additions.

This time, the case is "live" and involves the mysterious apparent disappearance of an elderly lady, following the mysterious death of her husband a few months earlier. The plot is as twisty as you'd expect from Susan Lewis, and as usual, you don't know who to trust - let alone believe! As usual there's a good mix of characters - some nice, some downright wicked. Andee Lawrence makes an appearance too. There are, as ever, some nicely described settings - including a trip to Portugal.

The team uncovers several similar cases - and it's apparent that a web of deceit and artifice - aided by AI - is in play.

I'm looking forward to reading more in this series - the characters develop more with each novel.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC. All opinions my own.

I really have enjoyed this book which is the latest in the series featuring true crime podcasters Christy and Connor, who with their team of investigators look at unsolved mysteries.

In this book Romy, an elderly lady who has led a fabulous life with her husband, seems to be enjoying a break from her day to day life and is posting pictures online of her travels. However her friends are concerned as she is not making contact and Christy and Connor agree to look into her “disappearance”.

The book is very well written and an interesting read which looks at online fraud, AI technology and how impostors can and do manage to make huge amounts of money from innocent people. Also in this book we see more about the home life of Christy and her relationship with her partner David and ex husband Matthew, which gives the reader further background to enhance the relationship with her as a character.

I enjoy the podcast as a concept for the book and essentially they are modern day detectives, which is a different spin on this genre. I look forward to reading the next one in the series.

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Cristy Ward is back in a new drama as she and her podcast team agree to investigate the strange behaviour of Romy Kaplan, an elderly widow who has left her home. She appears to be alive and well through social media, but her goddaughter, friends and neighbours are sure she is in some sort of danger. As the investigation begins, strange things are thrown up about the Kaplans' past. Something sinister is going on ... Cristy just has to disocver what it is.
Though there are twists and turns and unexpected developments, I wasn't as enthralled by this plot as I have been by Lewis's previous two Cristy Ward books - it took a very long time to get going.
But as always, her character portrayals are faultless - every person in the story from Romy to Cristy to the least significant of players is a well rounded person with strengths and vulnerabilties, and we soon come to care about them all.
I wonder, though, if Cristy's development as a character has reached its limit. Her home and love circumstances remained static in this story - I'd have liked to see another level or a change of direction to keep her fresh and interesting.
Not my favourite Susan Lewis book, I'm afraid.

Christy Ward and her team are back with a new case for their podcast Hindsight.
A young woman has approached Christy, regarding her concern for her godmother, Romy, who also happens to be mums best friend. Romy’s husband Rudi died recently and there is some suspicion around his death. It’s very unlike Romy not to have been in contact with anyone. No texts, no phone call, she has just disappeared. There are a few posts on social media, the comments made by her friends have all been vague and Romy hasn’t replied to any of them, other than to say what a great time she is having.
Christy and Connor are intrigued and are determined to find Romy and to find out what really happened to Rudi There are some twists and turns to keep the reader guessing, Interesting was the use of AI - a voice can be copied - very clever but scary to think we can literally be cloned. I
We also are kept up to date with Christy’s love life and of course that of her ex husband Matthew.
I thoroughly enjoyed this latest book from this very talented author Susan Lewis.

Many thanks to net Galley & Harper Collins UK for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review.

I was super excited for this, having read the first two books in this series earlier this year.

I enjoyed being back with Cristy and Conner, recording a new series of their podcast Hindsight where they uncover mysteries or possible crimes. This time it’s about the odd disappearance of an elderly lady called Romy soon after her husband passed in a tragic accident. Her close friends don’t ever receive any direct response to messages or calls but she posts vague Facebook videos saying she is well.

Equally as compelling as the first two books I found this to be an interesting read. Especially with the very current nature of the topic (though I’m not going to spoil the plot here!). This is more of a slower paced mystery than fast-paced thriller but I enjoy these kinds of books when well written, which this definitely is.

I loved hearing what all the characters were up to, but you can read this as a standalone as each case is closed within the book. And I can’t believe that there is a suggestion for a book number 4 already! I cannot wait!

I recommend to add this to your reading list! The audiobook for this is also excellent. 🎧

This book is in a series about a podcast called Hindsight featuring Cristy Ward and Conor Clove. One of Christy’s friends, Layla, asks them to help as her Godmother Romy Kaplan appears to be missing and her mother Beth, a close friend of Romy, is serious ill with cancer. Cristy normally deals with cold cases but agrees to help investigate what has happened to Romy. Romy seems to be posting messages on social media and leaves messages on Beth’s phone but when anyone tries to return a call it just goes to answerphone. Her husband was found dead in his bath 6 weeks ago which makes everyone worry for Romy even more.
The more Cristy and her team investigate the case the more worried they become as they realise the social media posts are faked with AI. It certainly made me think about how easy it must be now for fraudsters to use this new tool and how so much now posted on the net may be fake.
A character from another series of Susan Lewis books makes a guest appearance, Andee Lawrence who was in the Police and is now a private investigator.

An ok read, I liked this one better than a previous one in the series. Christy is a podcaster with a team and a complicated family/lovelife around her . She is approached because a good friend of Layla and her motyher has disappeared . This after she and her husband had downsized and her husband had been found dead in the bath. Romy is not answering calls or reacting to social media.
The book is relevant, concerned with scamming, identity theft and cybercrime. Still not sure about the role of the podcaster though in this book, perhaps they take too much on but there is more involvement with the police. The book is too long and is repetitive. The pacing is up and down, begins well, is too drawn out in the middle and too fast to wind everything up towards the end . My engagement with the book was also up and down, though I did want to finish it because there was enough interest to keep me going. I`m not sure whether I`ll read any more of this series.

Another suspenseful and gripping thriller in the Christy Ward Series by Susan Lewis.

I read Don't Believe a Word back in July and just picked this one up this weekend. Despite the gap, it feels like picking up where I left off. I love the podcast element. it's highly entertaining.

Never look back starts with a missing person, a dead husband, and weekly cryptic social media posts reassuring her loved ones she is safe. However, nothing is as it seems.

What I also love is the emotional depth within the characters and that their development flows nicely from the previous books. It actually feels like watching a tv series. Which come to think this would definitely be something I'd watch.

Susan Lewis has a way to lure you in. I think you've figured it out and then boom you're blindsided, another twist that throws you off track.

It's a great book for psychological thriller fans. Thank you to Susan Lewis, the publisher, and Netgalley for the ARC.

This is the third installment in the Cristy Ward series. While it can be read as a standalone, I found myself wishing I had read the earlier books first. A number of characters are introduced quickly, and I suspect their backstories would have been clearer and more impactful with the context of the previous novels.

The integration of AI into the storyline is both clever and unsettling, adding a modern edge that feels timely and thought‑provoking. The characters themselves are well developed and relatable, and the short, cliffhanger‑driven chapters make it easy to keep turning the pages.

The pacing remains steady throughout, with a consistent flow of new information and twists. However, the book didn’t grip me as much as I had hoped. By the final chapters, I felt the ending was drawn out, and my enthusiasm started to wane.

That said, fans of the first two books—and of Susan’s writing style—will likely enjoy this continuation. If you’ve already invested in the series, this is a worthwhile read.

As someone who loves a gritty true crime podcast, I really enjoyed how this book shed light on the world behind the mic. It was fascinating to see the depth podcasters can go to, and the way Susan Lewis wove that into the story felt both relevant and timely—a true reflection of how crime, media, and curiosity intersect in today’s world.

That said, while the topic and overall concept were well crafted, I found myself struggling with the central character. She often felt just a little too good to be true, and I kept waiting for a darker twist or a surprising turn that never really came. In some ways, that anticipation is what carried me through to the end.

This is definitely an armchair kind of story—one you can settle into on a rainy evening, knowing it will deliver intrigue, but perhaps not the grit or shock factor that some crime lovers might crave.

Cristy and Conner are back with their popular podcast. This time they are challenged with a mystery disappearance. When much loved Romy stops returning friends messages and calls suspicion is raised, however she seems to occasionally be posting updates on social media.

Of course, Cristy gets stuck in and realises all is not as it seems! What follows is lots of twists and turns as Cristy and her team begin investigating, and giving themselves more questions than answers!

It’s great to be back with Cristy, her family and team. I love the style of this series, with the addition of the podcast throughout.
It’s fast paced and keeps you questioning everything, right through until the end. I love the dynamics and relationships between all the characters, all the ones we know well and some new ones.

All in all a good read that you won’t want to put down in a hurry.

Another book that is one of a series, but reads perfectly as a standalone. Cristy and Connor run the Hindsight podcast which mostly looks into cold cases. However, when they are approached by Layla who is concerned for her godmother, Romy, who has gone missing and reveals that Romy had asked for Cristy’s contact details to help her. Layla is concerned that Romy has come to some harm, even though she has posted on social media, but no one can contact her, not even her best friend Beth, Layla’s mother, who is currently undergoing chemo.
As Cristy and Conner did deeper into Roma’s disappearance the more they are concerned for her.
A fast paced thriller which definitely keeps you hooked. I would have given 5 stars but for the ending which was a bit far fetched to my mind.
My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the arc.

Wow Never look back is book 3 of the Christy and Connor podcasts and my favourite so far!
Hindsight are approached to investigate a disturbing case by a very worried Layla,as her godmother and mums best friend Romy has seemingly disappeared which is very out of character for her, and despite Layla and her mother Beth’s attempts she appears to have vanished not responding to calls or messages.
The investigation by podcaster Christie, Connor and the team is a very twisted, surprising and quite frankly a shocking discovery that is really chilling as cyber crime ,AI , and digital technology continues to develop and the repercussions of this when used in the wrong hands can be absolutely horrifying.
Told in fast paced gripping way that keeps you invested right till the end!
Would highly recommend

Never Look Back is such a gripping and mysterious book that had me on the edge of my seat. While this is the third book that follows Cristy Ward, this can easily be read as a standalone novel. Fun fact, I started this series at book 2 last year, and I'm aiming to finally go back and read book 1 before the year is over! This series is so easy to pick up, and once you get to know Cristy, it all falls into place.

I really enjoy the way this and the series are told, with the podcast format mixed into the investigation. Not only that, but Never Look Back is such a thought-provoking and at times uncomfortable book as it looks AI and how dangerous it can actually be.

I thoroughly enjoyed the premise and mystery of this one. It was full of twists and turns that I didn't see coming and left me on tender hooks when I was forced to put the book down to sleep. I absolutely recommend this series and can't wait for the next book!

Book 3 in the Christy series. Christy is contacted by Layla who is worriedbwcause her godmother, Romy, has disappeared. As a favour to Layla's sick mother, Christy has a look with an eye to possible podcast with her partner, Connor. Cold cases are usually their speciality but soon it becomes apparent that Romy is still alive but any contact seems strange. Soon the pair are caught up in trying to unravel what has happened to Romy.
I liked this story better than the last one and was really invested in how the story would end. It is a salutary tale as to when technology is used wrong which gave lots of food for thought.

Thank you to NetGalley for the chance to review this ARC of Never look back by Susan Lewis. An intriguing storyline from the start, not long after her husband’s death, Romy disappears and the only prof of like are regular social media posts. Was her husband’s death suspicious, have the police failed to identify misadventure and is Roma on the run or even still alive? This is the perfect case for podcaster Cristy Ward. Eager to find out the answers? I definitely recommend this richly plotted book with tension that builds perfectly.

The premise of Where Is Romy Now? is intriguing a dead husband, a missing wife, and a growing sense of unease as the story unfolds. The first half held my interest with strong pacing and a compelling setup. However, I found that the second half dragged somewhat, losing the momentum built early on. While the mystery was good I have to say that her other older books I enjoyed much more but this one is still a solid read for fans of true crime style mysteries.

This is book 3 in the Cristy Ward series. The story begins Romy Kaplan, she has gone missing and her husband, Rudi has been found dead in the small cottage they lived in. What happens next is Romy starts posting on social media. This doesn't sound right to the Hindsight podcast team, where Christy, Connor, Clover, Jacks and Iz begin to look into this after being contacting by Romy's goddaughter. We soon find out all is not well and it's a race against time to solve the mystery. It was full of twists and turns, engrossing, gripping and suspenseful.

First, thank you Netgalley & HarperCollins for this ARC!

I've been really pleased to see that the the Cristy Ward series got another book, and even more excited to be an early reader for this one!

There is really not much negative I can say about Never Look Back - it is again full of twists and turns. Podcaster Cristy is on a new case, this time about a young man who'd been found dead in the bath and his wife, Romy, who has vanished right after.... but has she really? And if so, can Cristy find her before it's too late? Go and get the book if you want to find out!

Christy Ward and her Hindsight podcast team are back! This is the second book in this series but this can be read as a standalone. I’ve read the first two and I’d been looking forward to reading the next book, I really enjoyed it.

The premise of this one was so good and I was really intrigued by it. A widow goes missing with no word and suddenly random social media posts start appearing. Is it really her?

I was so invested in the story. I totally didn’t see that twist coming.

I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series. I love these characters!
