After a summer spent off the grid in the Colorado Rockies, Detective Jack Martin returns to Telluride and finds the sheriff looking for him. Local school boys have found a body in an abandoned mine with a long history of betrayal and greed.
Law enforcement needs Jack’s help to find the killer. But when the number of murder suspects mounts, Jack finds himself in the dark, struggling to piece together the clues. And as his investigation intensifies, so does the danger. Will an avalanche of small-town secrets bury him alive?
With white-knuckled suspense and a colorful cast of characters, ECHOES IN THE DARK is a story of intrigue and murder set in the rugged mountain landscape between Telluride and Ouray, Colorado.
ECHOES IN THE DARK is the sixth book in the popular Mountain Resort Mystery Series.
Shannon Work writes traditional mysteries set in the Rocky Mountains and Texas. The Mountain Resort Mystery Series features detective Jack Martin, a former FBI agent from Texas who now solves murders committed in the most exclusive resort towns in Colorado, including Aspen, Vail, and Telluride.
Shannon grew up in Del Rio, a border town in the dusty wilds of West Texas. When she graduated from high school, she moved east to College Station and graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor's degree in Journalism and a master's degree in Land Economics and Real Estate.
Most of her working life has been spent developing real estate, earning a national Best in America Living Award for one of her developments.
Shannon and her husband are recent empty nesters and split their time between Houston, Texas and Telluride, Colorado. Always with their three rescue dogs in tow!
Another great book by Shannon Work! The suspense was enough to keep me turning the pages, and it's always nice to find a great, entertaining book without filthy scenes. I don't usually like kids in books, but Abby was so well written that I didn't mind her, and of course, there were some fun dog scenes for the animal lovers. The focal point, of course, was the great Rocky Mountains of Colorado and some fun peeks into the town of Telluride. It just makes for a majestic book setting. If you haven't read one of Work's novels, I highly recommend trying one out.
I always enjoy the books in this series. The characters are compelling. This one had several subplots, and all were intriguing. I really connected with Corbin Butch, the "crazy" reclusive mountain man. There were very relevant and current issues that were touched on, like the storage of nuclear waste. I also enjoy stories where the actual police in a story aren't bashed.
Jake returns from the mountains with Otto to discover the Sheriff wants to have him help with a recent murder. A local resident who owns a gold mine is murdered at his mine. The entire town says the man was not well-liked, but they all seem to be keeping secrets.
Like all of Shannon Work’s books, this one doesn’t disappoint. The clues are peppered in for the perfect amount of mystery and excitement.
If you enjoy mysteries, this is a must read. The descriptions of other mountains make me feel like I’m there. The characters have charm, and of course, there is intrigue, leaving the audience to guess who “done it” until the very end.
I have really enjoyed this book series by Shannon Work and particularly liked Echoes in the Dark. The last half was a real page-turner. I couldn’t believe the plot twist at the end! Can’t wait for the next one in the series!
Another satisfying resolution to a series of murders...only wish Jack could find that special someone. Otto just doesn't cut it!!!! Anxiously waiting for the next book.
I really like this detective series. Living in Colorado I love hearing about all the beautiful ski resort towns and helping Jack Martin solve crimes is relaxing......I hope there are more to come....and maybe a little more romance?
