Sergio Aguero is one of the top strikers in world football. The book features a foreword from his best friend, Lionel Messi, and includes colourful dressing room revelations about his fellow countryman and a revealing insight into the greatest footballer on the planet. Against an incredible backdrop of hardship, Sergio is lucky to have been born after an epic ordeal for his young mother and an incredible twist as to how he took a surname that is now familiar around the world. From fathering a son with Maradona's daughter to winning junior World Cups and clinching the most dramatic Premier League title in modern history. This is a book every Manchester City fan will want to read, but also any football fan who is fascinated by that elite group of World greats who were touched by destiny and born to rise.
This book is about a professional football player, but this story is inspiring but at the same time boring. In this book I was bored in the beginning and a part of the middle this was because they didn't talk about his professional career in Argentina, just the youth team or about his parents and their diseases, but when it was going towards the end it became more interesting especially when he was in Manchester City. So yes even though the book is inspiring it is boring for almost two thirds of the time, and that's why I gave a three star review
I really like this book because it walks me through the stages and difficulties of his life and shows how a child with a passion and a dream came through poverty and many other obsticals in his way to represent his country and become a world class footballer
As a lifelong Manchester City fan I have the greatest respect and admiration for Sergio Aguero as a footballer. He has conducted his life both on and off field with humility and professionalism, and over a decade of dedication become one of the all time greats of the Premier League.
However this book is not well written or edited and could (should) have been completed in under 300 pages. I am of course bias as I'm only truly interested in the time spent during his career in England, but appreciate he has fans around the world who are less interested in that part of his life. That said the book is just poorly written even taking into account it has been translated from its original language.
The first 70% of the book tells of his childhood and the hardships his family faced during the early part of his life. At times telling us more about his parents than himself including his father's semi-professional football career. However, does the reader need to know the name of every boyhood opponent by name or the manner in which Argentina organises youth football competitions?
Having grown up and lived through the Falklands War I was interesting to see the state of Argentina's economy and politics during the aftermath when Sergio was growing up. If i'd been really interested I would have read a text book on Argentina and not a book about one of my favorite footballers!
The Manchester City fan in me would suggest that the book starts at chapter fifteen. This however does not improve the writing. The anecdotes are really not what one would have hoped for and the details of Sergio settling into his new life poorly presented. The chapter starts by saying how he purchased a home some 20 minutes from the training ground and "initially sat nav provide direction but later ....... he started making the trip without the help of the device." How extraordinary! Here is a young man at the beginning of a new life in a new country and the book tells us how he learns directions to the training ground without using a sat nav! Fascinating, I think not.
The book is full of stories of interest to almost nobody and Sergio has been poorly represented by his advisors when editing this tome. Sorry Sergio I really can't recommend this book as it is one of the worst I have read for many years. I had hoped for so much more from both the writing and the content.
This story is told by one of the greatest strikers for soccer in the entire world, Sergio Aguero. This is a biography, and the foreword is read by perhaps the greatest soccer player in the whole world, Lionel Messi. Sergio Aguero, main character and author, describes things that happen during his career, such as his greatest goal ever. That goal is said to be one of the greatest goals of modern history. Before he was born, his family went through many hardships, such as evacuating their house because of a flash flood in Argentina, he knows these stories because he wanted to know stories of how life was before he was alive. Sergio Aguero is said to be lucky to be alive, and he was thought to Born To Rise over everyone, and he did so by becoming one of the greatest strikers ever, and this story reveals a lot of insight on it. This book is pretty long, but it has a lot of details and information that would be interesting for any player.
A great biography, which starts with Sergio's parents story, so the reader gets an insight on how their beliefs and standards influenced Sergio's character. It tells the reader where he was born, and the poverty he was born into. The people he and his family have met, and how they've influenced Sergio as a person, and helped him on his journey to being the footballing hero, of course 93:20 features large in the story, and every Man City fan will be ever grateful for that goal, and also the impact he has had on the history of our beloved club. Really enjoyed it.
This book is amazing! A must read for any football fan especially a Man City/Kun aguero fan. Such a lovely story about where he came from to where he is at present day. He is truly one of the best footballers of this generation
The outstanding autobiography about Sergio Kun Aguero describes how Sergio become one of the top strikers in modern football. Sergio Kun Aguero was born 2 June 1988 in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. His parents, Adriana Agüero and Leonel del Castillo, were poor people who barely had money to pay their taxes. At the age of 3, Sergio would go outside in his neighborhood and play soccer with water bottles. At the age of 5 during his birthday, his father gave him his real first soccer ball. From that moment on, Sergio would play with it every week-end with his friends. At the age of 9, some of Sergio’s friends got into a soccer club in the southern part of Buenos Aires. Although his parents had almost no money at all, they accepted to let him join his friends under one condition; he had to get high grades at school. Every week-end he would train with his friends for hours at the club. A year later, Sergio’s grades started to go down. Since the association was taking too much of their money, they decided to leave it. But Sergio’s coach wouldn’t let his parents remove him from the club. He said that Sergio was talented and that he would pay for the expenses for him to stay in the club. His parents saw Sergio’s talents and accepted the offer. At the age of 11, scouts in the region saw Sergio’s talent and proposed him a contract. He later joined the club Independiente of Avellaneda. The contract he signed with the club allowed his parents and his siblings to move into a more comfortable house in a nicer neighbourhood. Through the years, Sergio had won many competitions. At the age of 13, Sergio entered the U15 national team and was captain even though he was only 13 years old. Throughout the years, he had won many competitions but the one that marked him the most was in 2008 during the Olympic Games where he won the gold medal with Lionel Messi. With his outstanding performance, the club Atletico Madrid offered him a contract in Spain. Again, with Atletico Madrid, he won many trophies including the Europa Super Cup. In 2011, Sergio was offered a contract with Manchester City. During his 1st year, Sergio had won the Premier League with outstanding statistics. As one can see, Sergio’s life through the years has been hard and, complicated and he deserves to be where he is right now.
I know that this book is a biography because it talks about someone’s life and his career. If this were fiction, there would be unrealistic information in this book. Sergio became famous because he has amazing soccer skills. At the beginning of his career, Sergio was just a regular soccer player, but when he moved to Atletico Madrid, he became famous worldwide. People like Maradona inspired Sergio. As a small kid, Sergio would always watch his matches on T.V. and would know everything about him. Also, his father inspired him because he was a great soccer player but he didn’t have enough money to travel and enter a club. Sergio wanted to finish his father’s dream.
I would recommend this book to all fans of football and especially fans of the clubs Independiente of Avellaneda, Atletico Madrid, and Manchester City. This book can be read by anyone, students in 2nd grade to students in 12th grade. It isn’t too hard to read and has a lot of details on Aguero’s life
I got this book a couple of years ago as a Christmas present. I tried to read this book several times but I could never get into it. I have followed Manchester City for a while and Sergio is one of my heroes. I decided to try it again during lockdown. It took me a while to read this book but I really enjoyed reading about him and his football history. It is a sport biography.
This book is written from multiple points of view. Sergio hired a writer named Daniel Frescó who writes it as a third person but then he interviews his family, friends, teammates, coaches and Sergio himself as they go through his life. The first couple of chapters are from his mother’s point of view on how she met Sergio’s father and the Sergio’s childhood. Then it goes to the bond between Sergio and his dad and how the love of football began.
My favourite chapter is the chapter that talks about his debut at fifteen years old. He just never brags about it. He just so humble and the way that he tells the story makes you feel nervous and proud because he debuts at fifteen years old. You feel like you are apart of his family who were all crying and nervous and proud as well.
The only thing that I would say is a weakness is how big the chapters are. I like big chapters but these were huge. I mean a small chapter was considered 25 pages. It did take a while for me to read it because of how big the chapters were which included 6 or maybe 7 small stories.
I really enjoyed reading this book even though it took me forever to read it. I would love for him to produce another book in maybe fifteen because the book ends 4 years after he joined Manchester City. It’s been five years since he wrote that book and so much more has happened in his life that I would love to see it from his point of view.
I chose this book because of the player Sergio "Kun" Aguero. TO me this player is more relatable to me because of the fact that both of us have a origin from Peru. MY favorite part in the book is when he explains how he won the Barclays premier league tittle for his club after a 49 years with out winning. the way he describes it is very unique. he was the won who scored the goal to win the tittle. overall the book was great. I liked it because off all the hard work he does and in the end it pays off.
Despite this book giving me a totally different out look on Aguero I have to say for a guy who only in his mid 20s it was loooong. Although I fully enjoyed reading it, sometimes I got the impression that not only was it repetitive but some of the detail was a bit much.
However being a huge Man City fan I loved being able to read about this guys life. This guy whose done so much for us. I have such respect for the dude and even though I've always been a goalkeeper kinda person I do recognise how incredible his football skills are. Totally believe its a must read if your a football fan.
A brilliant insight into the life of one of the best footballers in today's game. Covering all the important events which took place in shaping a phenomenal player. I enjoyed reading about the big moments in Kun's professional career, however, there were many moments in this book which found really boring. This book will mostly be enjoyable for serious football fanatics.
pretty sick book considering aguero is a tank. i mean who would think that aguero would be this beast. i mean hes one of my favorite players so yeah. hes beast. hes awesome
