Tyron has bided his time and amassed his strength, but for how long will he be willing to wait for his vengeance?
The rebellion grows stronger every passing day while the Noble houses attempt to purge the corruption of heresy from the people. The bodies are piling high in the streets, anger and fear are running rampant and the whispers of the dead fill the air.
What's a Necromancer to do?
Join Tyron as he strives tirelessly to bring down an Empire. He has apprentices to train, Vampires to negotiate with and Nobles to kill. In the end, will he succeed in bringing a city to its knees?
Book 4 of the hit LitRPG series from RinoZ, the author of Chrysalis. Book of the Dead takes on all aspects of Necromancy headfirst, from the tactical manuevering of skeletons, to what it's like spending so much time amongst the undead.
Wow! Soooooooo! FannnFriggenTastic! For those of you following this series you know that vengeance is on the menu! Some say it's best served cold! But for Tyrone Steelarm a illegal necromancer, vengeance can be served over and over again! And he must take the Nobles, Magisters, and Priests who follow the Five Devines. The story is mostly told through Tyrone POV, but several others get to throw in their POV as well, so you get to have a well rounded view... And one of the first things that happen is Tyrone ends up with apprentices. Three newly classed necromancers. Tyrone's goal is to level and obtain Gold rank. With that power-up and a retinue of skeletons, revenantes, wraiths which will hopefully alow him to get the vengeance he craves with losing his life in the process! Believe/You Me you can't compare rinoZ's two series Chrysalis and Book of the Dead other than it's tight writing style and the edge-of-your-seat action! And I absodamnlutely love both series! So, yeah go grab this action-driven litRPG now!
Here's a quote for ya:
"When he finally awoke, he felt like death scraped over burnt toast."
This was a fantastic book, but I have to give it 4 stars because of how powerful Tyron became (which was kind of inevitable). The core of this series is futilely fighting back against powers way stronger than you, and surviving. This book crosses the boundary into a space where Tyron becomes strong enough to start taking matters into his own hands and fight back. And it is so rewarding! The last book set off so much and this was the payoff. It is so close to 5 stars, I just don't think the ending was particularly as powerful as it could be - the fight against the nobles should have been more devastating than it was. Sure, the divines and their subjects are incompetent and lazy - not this lazy to be defeated so easily without making Tyron sacrifice most of everything.
I was hooked to this book as I have been the others. I also with Tyron could find a way back to the headspace that had SOME empathy, the one that was scared, but perhaps that's not meant to be? I guess it feels like he hasn't changed much since the big moment and the constant anger (but rightfully so) is getting a little old.

Book of the dead so far has been meticulously written. There is no doubt in its power to grip the minds of us readers, very easily takes the throne of excellence along other well established books in the genre of Progfantasy and litrpg. The way it introduces the power system, especially its core, necromancy, has barely any equals in my opinion. It is flawless and as close to perfection as the MC himself would want it to be. The politicking is a refreshing read and doesn’t get tiring. Chaos and growth are always well kept in balance that it doesn’t get too intense on your emotions without release. Progress has never felt as satisfying as this book and there is so much more to come. This book has been a culmination of all the trials and errors the MC has been through in the past books and it is brought together in such an exciting and dreadful way that it couldn’t be more truer to its title. Yet, it is only the beginning. 10/10, eagerly waiting for the story to continue in the coming books.
Book of the Dead 4 stands out as one of the strongest entries in the series so far. The pacing is superb — a steady build that crescendos into a truly satisfying climax. It manages to both wrap up everything that came before in a meaningful way and set the stage for what feels like a whole new phase of the story.
There’s a sense of transition here: the arcs we’ve been following are given resolution, but you can feel the world opening up into something larger and more ambitious. The book carries the weight of what’s past while also promising that the next stage will be even bigger. It’s rare to find that balance, and this installment nails it.
In short, a pivotal book that closes one chapter and cracks open another — one of the best of the series, and a clear signal that even greater things lie ahead.
Very good, made me think, but I hope the story arc gets a bit gentler (although I doubt it). You are watching someone becoming something dark and grim.
Is there a lesson behind this that the author wants to impart? Go for vengeance whatever it may cost you and everyone else? Or will we see Tyron change for the 'better' in further books? Will he save the world or whatever's left of it? I'm not certain as he has already gone so far over the moral lines with his actions.
He's currently in the same category as what a far right orator stated: some (or a lot of) innocents dying is acceptable if you can attain your goal or keep your law. Is pragmatism really the end all do all in our lives? It's not for me anyways.
Probably the best book in the series so far. We truly see Tyron grow in so many ways in this book, whether it be as a Necromancer or as a teacher. I enjoyed seeing that aspect especially; the juxtaposition between his growing loss of humanity as his vengeance consumes and his care for teaching his disciples was a key aspect of this book. We see the Rebellion from a multitude of different perspectives as Tyron takes increasingly large and bold steps to begin the first step in his quest to end the Empire. A fantastic LitRPG mix of characters, magic, action, world building, progression, and twists you may not expect. Can't wait for the next one!
You need to read this series. If you already are then you aren’t reading reviews because you’re already reading. The tragic tale of a necromancer that is needed in everyone’s life. If you’re still reading this review you are doing yourself a disservice. Start reading the book already!
Honestly, one of my favorite series. A little less nitty gritty detail since Tyron has the basics down. There were several typos but the story was so good it doesn't detect from it. If you've read this far in the series, you'll definitely want to pick this one up!
I enjoyed this novel, but it felt like the author was trying to rush the story a bit, there are certainly some time skips. I wish there had been more points of view from some of the side characters. (Elsbeth, Dove, students, etc.) That said the end fight is pretty good and I did really enjoy it. I will keep reading as I want to see where it goes next.
I am finding that this series is starting to lose some of it's luster. I personally am a big fan of exploring skills that the author presents in some of these litRPG books. I found that in the first books this was very present and I loved it, now it is not touching on that quite as often. I understand that the author has to do more with it and I am ready for the future of the series.
The series as a whole is a slow burn leading up to this point, but with the characters, conflict, magic and action I couldn’t put out any of the books down.
I never thought there could be this much depth into necromancy but I was proven wrong. I really enjoyed the learning curve the MC had to struggle through and now I can wait for book 5 to come out and see what happens next!
I never give reviews, but I will for this series since it supports the author on Amazon’s Algorithm. It’s refreshing to read about someone operating in the morally grey zone instead of just “being a good guy.” Read this book.
This was an absolute amazing book. There are so many payoffs from the earlier books, and it was done in a highly (at least to me) entertaining way. Easily my favorite book of the series.
Best sci-fi series ever gripping from start to finish amazing characters, funny but emotional storyline, action, packed, and everything you’d want to read in unless in a fantasy series
I read a LOT of books. This series outshines them all, even when Tyron goes on a mental tangent, it’s understandable. The writing is SUPERB and the actions and movement of the books are phenomenal. Bravo!!!!
