It was one of his first missions ... And now the past is coming back to haunt him. 1999. The Kosovo War is at its height. A brutal conflict between the Yugoslav and Kosovo armies soaks the land with blood. Harrowing reports of ethnic cleansings and mass executions echo from the front lines. Under the orders of NATO, a small team of SAS soldiers are inserted into the Kosovo Liberation Army ranks to help tip the scales of war, but what they find is worse than they imagined.
Twenty-five years on, a string of bomb attacks across Europe rock the continent, and when an attack happens on UK soil, Solomon Church can ignore it no longer. The explosions bear an eerie resemblance to something he's already the same methods, the same equipment, the same feeling. There's a link between what happened in Kosovo in 1999 and what's happening now.
Church begins his hunt, determined to uncover the link and right the wrongs of his past. There was no one innocent in that war, and now, someone's out to finish what they started all those years ago. But can Church find the man he's looking for before he finds himself in the crosshairs? Or is the killer he's searching for far closer than he ever imagined ...

The Fury is the second instalment of the pulse-pounding Solomon Church series. Travel into the centre of one of the bloodiest wars in Europe's history, and hold on tight as you're swept up in Church's latest thrilling mission.
Perfect for fans of Lee Child, Saul Herzog, Mark Greaney, and Robert Enright.
Morgan Greene grew up in Wales, and works a copywriter, editor, and author. Morgan studied Creative Writing and English Literature at Swansea University with a focus on narrative structure and theory, and published the first crime novel in the Jamie Johansson series in 2020. Since its release, the series has gone on to reach bestseller status, with Detective Jamie Johansson quickly becoming a reader favourite.
The series blends classic Scandi-noir elements with modern and cinematic thriller writing to create a unique style that adds to the emerging Brit-noir genre. Jamie has many novels ahead of her, but Morgan is also working on a variety of other projects across crime, thriller, and mystery and plans to publish plenty more in 2022 and beyond.
A long-time fan of Morgan Greene, I thought I ought to expand my horizons with this newer series. Solomon Church is nothing like Greene's Jamie Johansson, which permits me to see some of the other perspectives the author has to offer. I thoroughly enjoyed the series debut and needed to know more about Church and all that he can do. While Church and his SAS team worked for a time in Kosovo during the war, he remembers just how impactful things were on both sides of the battle. Now, someone has been setting off bombs across Europe, forcing Church to work alongside his INTERPOL contact to solve the case and try to make sense of it all. What he learns will not only impact him in the present, but put the past in perspective. Greene delivers another stunning novel that kept me turning pages until the very end.
At its height, the Kosovo War proved a brutal conflict that made headlines in 1999. Serbian and Kosovar forces killed many and fought, while filling the streets with blood. Under NATO orders, a small SAS team went to the region to support the Kosovo Liberation Army (KAL) and put the Serbs away once and for all. However, things are much worse than expected.
Fast-forward twenty-five years and someone has begun bombing cities in Europe, including one on British soil. Solomon Church, who was part of that SAS team, cannot ignore what is going on and is asked to consult by INTERPOL. What he discovers is a similarity to something he saw while working in Kosovo all those years ago. These revelations could prove troublesome and make Church second-guess all he knew back in ‘99.
Seeking to right the wrongs of the past, Church seeks to find one man with answers that could shed light on everything. It will take time and determination, but that is not what worries Church. Rather, it is the potential jeopardy in which he is placing those he loves that creates the angst within him. Morgan Greene develops another story that keeps the reader forging on.
Morgan Greene is able to create a bond with the reader in many of his novels. While I discovered his work when I read the Jamie Johansson series, this collection forced me to mentally change gears, which had been a good thing to keep me thinking. Solomon Church could not be more different than Jamie, as the reader will soon discover, particularly if they did not read the series debut (though why skip it?!). Told in alternating chapters revealing past and present, the reader learns much from these two periods, as the larger story come together. Church remains a well-developed character whose backstory shapes the man he is today. Others entertain and flavour the story well, filling in many of the gaps. Plot points work well and permit a glimpse of the multi-faceted nature of Solomon Church. He is able to surprise the reader with his perspectives and Greene shapes him to keep the tension high. I am eager to see where Greene takes things in the upcoming third novel.
Kudos, Mr. Greene, for a great addition to the collection.
This is an incredible thriller! Maybe the best by the author!!! I loved it and felt as though I was in Kosovo. Morgan has made a deep research into the conflict, and one can feel it at each of Church's step. Impressive! I am fascinated by Church's life. Despite all of his disappointments, his violent past fighting the evil in international conflicts, he has kept his integrity while his conscience plagues him. The novel is gripping, thrilling, captivating and makes your blood pressure constantly go up. Full of action, tension , this thriller has kept me on the edge of my chair. Absolutely brilliant!! Thank you Dan, for giving me the fabulous opportunity to read your novels !
This second book in the Solomon Church series is a cracker. Someone is setting off bombs across the UK and mainland Europe and it seems to be connected to personnel in NATO from the time of the war in Kosovo during the breakup of the old Yugoslavia. It brings back unpleasant memories for Solomon when Hallberg engages him to track down the perpetrator.
This was a tense and gripping read all the way through. I loved the scenes set back during the war. It was so vivid and brought home a real sense of being there, despite being of an age where I watched things from afar on the television. The sense of revenge and retribution is strong here and I found myself empathising with the killer, something that doesn't happen often and is a good sign of the quality of the writing throughout. The ending leaves me waiting in anticipation for the third book to come.
The second of the soloman Church novels and was just as good as the first. This novel takes you back and forth with a 25 year gap bringing the two events, both of which had me on the edge of my seat, coming closer together. What a power ride in both stories that had me reading on to reach the end. Definitely advise reading this. You won't be disappointed.
Wow there are no words to describe how amazing this series is! I couldn't put this second book down!
The second book in the series takes the reader back to 1999 and the height of the Kosovo War. Solomon Church is part of a small group of SAS soldieres who are inserted into the Kosovo Liberation Army ranks to help tip the scales of war. What follows is a devastating series of events that changes Solomon's life forever.
Twenty-five years later, Solomon can't ignore a string of bomb attacks across Europe and the UK. Which ghost from his past has come to haunt him?
I really enjoyed this book and the beautiful way that Morgan Greene writes. I honestly felt immersed in the vivid writing and you can't help but feel you are right in the midst of the action. This book also opened my eyes to the brutality of the war.
I love how in each book the story moves from Solomon's present to his past, it really adds deptg to the character development of Church and the progression of the story. Like Morgan Greene's previous Jamie Johansson series, Church is a character with many different layers. Just as Greene reveals different parts of Jamie's character in each book, he also does the same with Church. I cannot wait to find out more about Church in the next few books!
This is definetly one of the best military action books that I've read in a long time. There is action galore, brutal wars, good AND bad guys, but most importantly, there is Solomon Church. A man who is forever haunted by the regrets of his past.
It's so easy to forget, when all the statistics & sanitised news reports reach us, that there are human beings at the end of it all. At the moment Palestinians & Ukrainians are receiving the full brunt of an aggressor's deadly actions against them. So then there's retaliation but they are both up against far stronger foes, who have no compunction in hitting "soft" targets - schools, hospitals, aid centres.
Morgan Greene brings the aching humanity to the fore when examining Solomon Church's actions &, even more importantly, the action or inaction of the people behind the scenes. They are the ones who truly lack humanity; people are reduced to nothing more than acquired targets at the end of a missile or drone strike. It's becoming nothing more than a real life video game with the blood & devastation a mere incidental. Church's hands are by no means clean, a fact he struggles with constantly as he gets pulled back into his past, with grim consequences. He's a worthy protagonist; scarred physically & emotionally by events not entirely of his own making. He's our very own British Jack Reacher but with more vulnerability. I'm looking forward to seeing more of him, as it is I'm late to the party where this series is concerned but I intend to catch up as quickly as possible.
Another brilliant book from Morgan Greene. The second in the Church series, Spin off from the Jamie Johansson series. This time Halberg calls on Church to help with a bomb attack in Birmingham, others have occurred in other European cities, he realises that he has seen this type of attack before during his days in the service. It gradually dawns on him that the memories he seeks were in Kosovo in 1999 , 25 years earlier and believes he knows the killer from his time there serving as a NATO "consultant" with yhe Kosovans against the Serbs. He & Halberg discover all the victims of these current bomb attacks were Nato officials at the time , steering the forces against the Serbs. When he finally realises who the bomber is he's shocked and saddened as he knows the part he played in that terrible war turned this man into what he is now. I'm sure all readers like myself will empathise with both men forced into that situation by the powers that be at the time. The final showdown has to be between the two of them and is so powerful.
This was a great read and the book was even better than the first book in the series, The Exile. The author continues with great character progression and uses his brilliant research to put a couple of twists on fact to bring a wonderful fast paced story packed full of action and suspense. The story has a split timeline between Kosovo in 1999 and Europe in the present day. I am not normally a big fan of such splits as they can sometimes confuse the reader but the author has got it totally right with this just using the right number of characters and keep the action going on every page. Readers can probably read this as a standalone but if you have read book 1 that will give you a better understanding of the main characters. Bring on book 3 Many thanks to the author for providing me with an advanced electronic copy of the book in return for a honest and unbiased review. The book is published today and is available for Kindle, Unlimited, Paperback, Hardback, and very soon on Audio.
Many thanks to Morgan Greene for the advanced reader copy of this book.
The Fury is the second installment of the Solomon Church series and in this book we learn more about his past. This story is told from dual timelines and switches between the two seamlessly. This book is action packed and fast paced the entire way through and is extremely well written and I found myself frantically turning the pages.
I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about Church's past and am now impatiently waiting for the next book in this series.
This was a tense and gripping read from start to finish. I loved the scenes set back during the war, it just really gave you time to think about those times and how they truly affected everyone. The sense of revenge and retribution is powerful and I found myself really feeling for the killer right or wrong. The ending leaves me waiting for the third book. I thoroughly recommend this 2nd book in this Solomon Church series and also recommend you read each and every one of the Jamie Johansen books and the standalone books by Morgan as well. Happy reading.
This is the 2nd Solomon Church book & is even better than the 1st one. I couldn't put it down I was lucky enough to be provided with an advance reader copy of the book read it the day I received it. In this book you learn more about Solomons past the book is set during 1999 and today and expertly moves from one to the other while advancing the storyline at a fast pace. I loved it & can't wait for the next book.
A thrilling read. One of those books you stay up all night to finish. The story takes you into the dark memories of Solomon Church’s past. More great writing from one of the UK’s best young authors.
Incredible characters, incredible story, as always! Ready for book number 3. Morgan Greene never disappoints. Church will be as equally popular as Jamie.
Brilliant book. I read the first book and advice starting from there to fully appreciate the charachter and narrative. Looking forward to the next book.
Not a boys and toys person, but I did quite enjoy this. It was difficult to follow at times with it jumping back and forth in time, but cannot see how else it could have been done.
