My hockey career's final chapter is writing itself. I'm thirty-five now, and with retirement looming, I'm desperate to make this season count—even if it means playing in L.A., the last city I ever wanted to call home.
Then Billie crashes into my life.
She's sunshine personified—more than ten years younger and my teammate's little sister.
Every instinct screams she's forbidden territory.
But one taste of her changes everything.
The chemistry between us is undeniable, explosive.
I know I should walk away, but I can't.
If her brother discovers us, I stand to lose more than just her—my career could end before I'm ready to hang up my skates.
Kat Mizera brings us back to Phantom’s hockey with Billie and Rome’s story. One of brother’s teammates, so a bit forbidden with an age gap.
Rome has recently been traded to the L.A. Phantom hockey team. He is one of the older players and facing possible retirement. He has made some bad life decisions, and his playing time is necessary for his planned retirement. He is currently rooming with a teammate, Bodi, to save money in the costly L.A. housing market.
Billie is sister to Bodi, going to school in L.A. She crosses paths with Rome at a bar, where he saves her from an unwanted suitor and share a dance together. It is later they find out their connection through Bodi.
This is a well done age gap romance, Billie is a mature twenty something, having grown up in the care of her brother after the loss of their parents. She is independent and smart, but still under the watchful eye of her overprotective brother. Rome is trying to fit in, find his position on the team and stay away from his now second roommate as Billie has moved back with her brother.
Both Billie and Rome know that Bodi will have a fit if they cross a line, but an injury and chemistry has the two crossing it anyway. The journey these two take is both entertaining and emotional. For Rome it is to find the one he did not know he was looking for.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
This is the sixth book in this amazing series, and this is Billie and Rome’s story. Rome is a veteran in the hockey team, and is nearing the end of his career, when he is traded mid-season to the Phantoms. Billie is the off-limits younger sister of his teammate, and she and Rome try to avoid each other, but fate has other plans. This is a well written easy to read, action packed story, with family, friendships, emotions, angst, tension, secrets, an age gap, humour, witty banter, romance, sacrifices, challenges, combustible chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and unpredictable, addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from these talented authors’ whose work I highly recommend.
Fair Play is the sixth, and final, book in the LA Phantoms series and follows league problem child, Rome, as he falls for Billie, his roommate and teammate's younger sister.
Rome was just traded to the Phantoms mid-season. As an older player in the league, he knows his playing time is limited. He never thought he would ever come back to Los Angeles, but here he is in his hometown playing hockey, possibly for his last season.
Billie is the little sister of hockey player Bodi. When their parents were killed years ago, Bodi stepped in and finished raising her. When he was called up from the minor league team in Phoenix to play for the Phantoms during playoffs last year, he brought Billie with him. She is her final year of college but is in a special program that allows her to earn credit towards her master's degree while finishing her bachelor's.
Rome and Billie meet by chance in a club. He is out trying to bond with his new teammates. She is out with her roommates. When a situation escalates, Rome steps in to deescalate it. What he does not expect is to like this snarky, twenty two year old woman.
Fast forward to when Billie calls Bodi to come and move her out of her apartment. A situation ensued with her roommates and she is done. Rome agrees to tag along in case Bodi needs backup. Boy is he surprised when he sees how Bodi's little sister is.
When Billie moves back in with Bodi, Rome is put on notice that she is off limits. She is his teammate's sister, he knows she is off limits. But the attraction is strong.
Rome goes above and beyond when it comes to Billie. When she needs a car to get back and forth to school, he arranges for her to borrow his dad's car. When she has an opportunity to become a waitress at a 50's Diner, but she needs to be able to work on roller skates, he takes her out to practice.
When Rome gets injured during a game, he flies home alone. What he wakes up to must be a dream.
As Rome is healing and rehabbing his leg, Billie is super busy with school and work. Her work life is providing the needed research for her final papers at school. It is always nice when karma is in your court.
But when Bodi finds out what has been going on between Rome and Billie, he flips his lid. On a road trip, no less. Rome does everything in his power to not react to the confrontation. He knows he is in the wrong. But will that be how Billie sees it? Is that how members of the team management will see it?
I realize Rome is older than Billie, but why does he think he should be the one to sacrifice everything without talking with her first? He has had a great year, minus the injury, with the Phantoms. It is possible he could get another contract in the off season. He has been trying to bond with his teammates. He does not seem to be his same old selfish, belligerent self. He is changing. And I do believe Billie is the reason.
Billie has dreams. For today, for tomorrow and potentially for the future. But nothing will work if Rome is not willing to talk to her. She might be young, but she is smart and knows what she wants.
I think the best scene in this book was when Rome is called in to the owner's office at the end. I love that he included Billie in the discussion. And the fact that Ms Barrowman also included her. Communication is key to any relationship. And women need to stick together.
As an older reader, I love when authors combine romance with the unique aspects of being older and having to start over. It leads to vulnerabilities that made the unexpected romance in this book even more emotional and satisfying. With each turn of the page, I found myself drawn into this sensual age-gap romance set amidst the world of hockey and showing two people gaining strength from each other.
Rome Castellano's hockey career is winding down, and with his being traded to yet another new team, he's riddled with uncertainties. He's desperate to figure out his place on the team while juggling his inconvenient feelings for a mystery woman he helped a few nights earlier...a woman who is soon no longer a mystery. Rome's a truly decent man with a good heart. He's unlucky in love though as seen by his two divorces, which makes him leery of the growing connection between him and Billie, little sister to his teammate/roommate. Though Rome fights his feelings he finds himself unable to deny her anything. With his injury on the ice, the team going out of town, and Billie moving in with him and her brother, everything heads down a steamy and emotional road to HEA.
Billie Michener was a young girl when her parents tragically died. From then on it was just her and her older brother, Brodi. His life was now lived according to what was best for his little sister. He gave her everything, supported her completely while pushing her to be the best she can be. It also led to him being VERY overprotective, almost smothering at times as he warned her against listening to her heart. Even with her brother's expectations I found Billie a likable and strong-willed young woman. She's focused and driven and just what Rome needs. I was rooting for her every step of the way as she was an unexpected bright light in Rome's life.
Along with a strong romance that had a slow and steady burn, there was also an equally strong and satisfying sibling connection between Brodi and Billie. Though Brodi could be a bit too much at times, too overbearing, I still applauded all the sacrifices he made for his sister and look forward to his story next. Fans of sports romances will also enjoy the nice balance of action on and off the ice. The age-gap between Rome and Billie might be a bit much for some, but Billie seems wise beyond her years, so their connection felt believable to me. On a whole it was an entertaining read that once again shows Ms. Mizera to be one of the best when it comes to romances set in the hockey world and I look forward to where she takes readers next.
Fair Play by Kat Mizera, book six in the LA Phantoms series, is an emotional, heartwarming, healing, age gap, teammate’s sister, hockey romance, about loss, family, unselfishness, moving on, and love. After watching her parents die in an accident that left 15 year old Billie Michener severely injured, 18 year old Bodi Michener knows he needs to take care of her. He skips college to play minor league hockey and eventually gets called up from his minor league team in Phoenix to the LA Phantoms of the NHL bringing Billie with him.
NHL player Rome Castellano is a late addition to the L.A. Phantoms team and is trying to find his groove after being traded. He’s also older and knows that his time in the NHL is winding down. Back in his hometown of LA with its high rent costs, he is rooming with Bodi Michener, one of his younger teammates, to help cut down on expenses. Rome went out to a club with some teammates and ended up helping a womanwith a man that just won’t take no for an answer. They share a dance, have a moment, and part ways; only sharing first names, Rome and Billie. When Bodi asks him for help in getting his sister and moving her out of her apartment because of a bad situation with roommates, he readily agrees. Imagine when he sees Bodi’s sister and realizes that it’s Billie from the club; Billie who he has dreamt about every night since their meeting.
Billie Michener is almost done with college and now needs a place to stay after an incident with her roommates. She temporarily moves in with her brother, Bodi, and Rome, sleeping on the couch while attending classes and working. Her brother is very overprotective of Billie, and warns Rome to stay away from her. The major problem is the chemistry Billie and Rome had from that night at the club is still there. Between the fact that Rome is much older than Billie and they are at different places in their lives they should avoid each other; but not with this living situation. In fact, the more time they spend together lines begin to blur. When Rome is injured during a game, it is Billie who is there to help him; and lines are crossed. Billie wants to keep this a secret, especially from her brother, until after the season so that it won’t cause problems in the locker room or on the ice; if only that was possible.
Rome has been in the league for awhile and has been with several teams. He’s trying to find his position in the team and how he can fit in with his teammates. He’s extra guarded from being traded so much and from two failed marriages. Billie is the light he needed in the darkness he was having in his life. Billie is smart, independent and driven. She and her brother are close, especially after losing their parents in a car accident, but although Bodi is extremely overprotective of her, he’s forgets that she’s an adult working on a college degree who can make her own decisions. The character growth of Billie and Rome showed how connected they were as they worked on their relationship. The ending was great and has me excited from the teaser for Bodi’s story and I can’t wait to read it.

FAIR PLAY is the sixth and final instalment in Kat Mizera’s contemporary adult LA PHANTOMS erotic, hockey romance series. This is thirty five year old hockey player Rome Castellano , and twenty-two year old college student Billie Michener’s story line. FAIR PLAY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Billie and Rome) FAIR PLAY follows the forbidden romance and relationship between our story line couple. The world building focuses on both Bodi and Rome’s struggling careers. Rome is nearing the end of life in hockey while Bodi is battling for a spot on the team. The secondary and supporting characters are energetic and colorful. We are introduced to Billie’s over protective brother Bodi, as well as several members of the LA Phantoms, and Rome’s immediate family including mother and his sisters.
FAIR PLAY is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, family and friendships, relationships and love. The fast paced premise is dramatic, edgy and engaging; the romance is seductive and impassioned; the characters are charismatic and determined.
Kat Mizera's L.A. Phantoms series draws to a close with book #6 FAIR PLAY, an age gap, opposites attract, teammate's younger sister, forced proximity romance. FAIR PLAY is a story about family, loss, protectiveness, understanding, and moving forward. Temptation is not easy to ignore, especially when he's an adonis hockey player and she's your teammate's sister who is completely off limits.

Will they survive the wrath of Bodi, Billie's brother, or will his anger tear them apart?
Kat Mizera has delivered a wonderful finale to this series. It was heartwarming, emotional, humourous, and highly addictive. She has also set the scene for her next series, Pucks & Penalties, with Bodi featuring in the first book. FAIR PLAY was a terrific story, the characters were likeable and relatable, and the emotions flowed from beginning to end. A highly recommended read.
The moment this hit my kindle, I couldn’t put this story down. “Fair Play” is a swoony, emotional and healing age gap, teammate’s sister hockey romance that I devoured in one sitting.
Rome is a late addition to the L.A. Phantoms team and is trying to find his groove after being traded. He’s also older and knows that his time in the NHL is starting to wind down. When out with teammates, he helps a woman with a man that just won’t take no for an answer. They have a moment but end up parting ways. Weeks later, Rome is surprised to see her again and even more surprised that it’s his teammate’s little sister, Billie. Billie is almost done with college and needs a place to stay after an incident with her roommates. She temporarily moves in with her brother, Bodi, and Rome. The chemistry they had from that night is there but are at very different parts in their lives. However, as they spend time together, the lines start to blur.
I love an age gap romance and this one was so good. I loved Rome from the beginning and how he stepped in to help someone who needed help without hesitation. He’s been in the league for awhile and has been with several teams. He’s trying to find his position in the team and how he can fit in with his teammates. He’s extra guarded from being traded so much and from two failed marriages. Billie is the light he needed in the darkness he was having in his life. Billie is smart, independent and driven. Her and brother are close, especially after losing their parents in a car accident. But with that, Bodi is extremely overprotective of her and forgets that she’s an adult with a college degree who can make her own decisions. Billie and Rome had great chemistry and I loved the teasing and slow burn to them getting their feelings in check. And once they did, the steamy times were so good. I loved the character growth of Billie and Rome, it really showed how connected they were and worked on their relationship. The ending was great and has me excited from the teaser for an upcoming book that I can’t wait to read.
This is the 6th book in the LA Phantoms hockey series by Kat Mizera and there is a sneak peek to a new hockey series that is about to start based in Atlanta. This book has it all sports, romance, spiciness and more.
Billie and her brother Brodi had this amazing life until their parents were killed by a drunk driver when she was 15 and he was 18, so he got custody of her and made sure she had everything. The problem was now she was 22 and he was still putting all these restrictions on her, including who she could and couldn’t date. One night she was rescued at a bar by this amazing man who makes her heart race. Little did she realize that he would come back into her life again in LA as her brother’s Phantoms teammate. When Brodi tells her to stay away from Rome, just concentrate on finishing her degree, she realizes that maybe she needs to start taking more control of her life. Especially when it comes to romance.
Rome should have been happy to still be playing in the NHL in his 30s, but instead part of him was wallowing because his 2 ex-wives had stripped him of a lot of his money and he hadn’t been the best teammate. He figured if he could get one or two more seasons in, pay off his cabin and make the final alimony payments, then he would be happy. What he wasn’t expecting though was to fall hard and fast for his teammates way younger sister, Billie. He knew it was wrong, but there was no denying there was this amazing chemistry between them, something he had never felt before. The hardest part was keeping it a secret but he would do anything for Billie, including pushing her away if necessary.
Thanks to Wildfire Marketing and the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book really tugged at my emotions. The main characters are all in a period of growth and transition … and it’s not easy.
Rome is recently traded to the LA Phantoms, his 6th NHL team in 10 years and his hometown that he barely tolerates visiting let alone living. He’s hanging on and hoping he can play another year to help himself dig out from the financial mess two divorces have left him to fix. He works at trying to fit in with his team, allowing himself to be vulnerable with some of his older teammates and contributing positively in games.
When his roommate Bodi moves his younger sister Billie into their two-bedroom townhouse, Rome knows he’s in a pickle because she’s the young woman he helped at a club who he hasn’t been able to forget.
Bodi is an over-the-top overprotective brother. At 18 he stepped up to raise his 15-year old sister when she was severely injured in a car accident that killed their parents. Billie is a mix up a young 20-something and an old soul.
The story is interesting as both Billie and Rome navigate a secret romance and trying to figure out how they can have a future together without blowing up the dynamics in the Phantoms locker room.
I enjoyed the path their relationship took - somewhat slow, but with lots of heat. They worked at developing a strong relationship yet still struggled with communicating at times, and the family challenges with her brother and his mom and sisters.
I loved seeing many of my favorite characters from the Phantoms series sprinkled throughout the story.
I received a free ARC from the author; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.
Rome Castellano is an NHL player and late acquisition for the L.A. Phantoms. Rome is an older player who knows his career is coming to an end. Back in his hometown of L.A. and with rent so high, Rome rooms with Bodi Michener, one of his teammates. One night, Rome hits a nightclub with some teammates and steps in to help a woman when a man won't take no for an answer. The woman asks Rome to dance with her, and they share a moment. They part ways after sharing their first names only, Rome and Billie. Rome agrees to help Bodi move his little sister out of her apartment after a bad incident with her roommates. Rome and Billie are shocked to see each other again. Billie Michener is almost done with college and temporarily moves in with Bodi and Rome after an incident with her roommates. Bodi is overprotective of Billie since the accident that killed their parents and severely injured Billie and warns Rome away from Billie. Will Rome and Billie be able to avoid each other living together? When Rome is injured, will Rome and Billie finally give into feelings for each other? How will Bodi react when he learns about Rome and Billie? Will Rome sacrifice his relationship with Billie to keep her from choosing between him and Bodi? Will Billie forgive Rome for walking away from her without talking to her? I enjoyed Fair Play by Kat Mizera. Rome and Billie are a great couple with explosive chemistry. Fair Play is a great ending to the L.A. Phantoms series. I would definitely recommend getting Fair Play and the other books in the L.A. Phantoms series by Kat Mizera. I received a free copy of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
If this is the end of the series then, Fair Play, the sixth novel in the L.A. Phantoms is the best one yet. It brings the series to a steamy and emotional conclusion that hits all the right notes.
Rome Castellano, a veteran player nearing retirement, when he lands in L.A.—his least favorite city and hometown—determined to make his final season count. But when Billie, his teammate’s younger sister, bursts into his life, everything changes. Not only is she younger, and off-limits as the sister of his teammate, Bodi, if he discovers their relationship, Rome stands to lose Billie and his career before he's ready to hang up his skates.
Their chemistry is as electric as it is undeniable, with sizzling tension, heartfelt moments, and a forbidden love that’s impossible to resist. What truly sets this novel apart is the dual POV storytelling, which gives readers an intimate glimpse into Rome’s internal struggle and Billie’s fierce independence. Their connection feels authentic and deeply emotional, laced with nuance, ensuring the tension between loyalty, desire, and consequence keeps the stakes high, the reader engaged and the pages turning.
Fair Play delivers a satisfying finale to the L.A. Phantoms series and a powerful, passionate ride that’s impossible to forget.
Kat Mizera brings a captivating story featuring Rome and Billie and forbidden love. This book is filled with family drama, emotion, love, and making big life decisions for both characters. Despite their age difference and different life stages, their chemistry is undeniable, and as they spend more time together, boundaries blur.
I thoroughly enjoyed this age gap romance. Rome's character drew me in from the start with his willingness to help others and his guarded nature due to past experiences.
Billie is independent, smart, and driven. , but her brother's overprotectiveness sometimes hinders her growth. We love her sass, directness, the whole package, and sometimes we felt that she was fighting harder for her and Rome's relationship than Rome was.
The slow burn and teasing between Billie and Rome were delightful, leading to steamy and satisfying moments once they acknowledged their feelings.
The character growth and development in their relationship were well-crafted and engaging. The ending left me eager for more, especially with the teaser for an upcoming book. Highly recommended for its well-developed characters, engaging drama, and storyline, we are looking forward to hearing about the upcoming spinoff featuring Bodi as the main focus.
You know that old adage where siblings, either gender, are off limits for the << put the excuse here >> reason. In my case, this story was very much my life. Only in my case, it was me and I found out 2 years after my husband, and I were married that I wasn't supposed to go there.
The story starts with a scene that made me wonder where the plot was going. Rome and Billie are an unlikely duo but so much fun to follow as their journey moves through the want, the start of something, that part of a relationship where who knows what will happen, hiding from everyone, the willingness to put someone else's needs ahead of your want, and finally, the YES, we can make this work moment.
The reward for sacrifice and the ramifications of not pulling your weight.
In my head, it is the perfect movie. Kat outdid herself. I am trying so hard not to give you a book report. My advice is to buy this book. Find your space, get a glass of your favourite beverage, and read. You will be pleasantly surprised, entertained, and smugly satisfied. I think that you will wish you were Billie. I know that I did. In part, it because I already have my Rome.
Another great story in the Phantoms universe. This book had a little of everything you could ask for: banter, hockey, spiciness, drama and romance. I liked the fact that Rome and Billie met at a club when he stepped in when no one else would and tried to stay away from each other (even though they continued to think about one another) when she ends up moving in with him and her brother. When an injury has them being together a lot, they start out as friends, with a lot of tension.
They helped each other through some important milestones and really got to know each other in the process. I found her brother annoying with how over-protective he was, even if I understood the reasoning. I didn't care for some of the choices they made about their relationship-I felt they should have acted like adults instead of acting as if they were in high school. Rome and Billie were cute together and the age difference didn't seem to even be an issue.
I am looking forward to the new series and can't wait for her brother to get his happily ever after. Kat Mizera is one of my go-to authors and she did not disappoint with this book. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.
Rome Castellano and Billie Michener met several nights ago at a club when he helped her with a guy that wouldn't leave her alone and then left.
Rome, new to the Phantoms, is rooming with Bodi, his teammate to help cut down on expenses. When Bodi asks him for help in picking up his sister at her apartment from a bad situation he agrees. When he sees who it is he's shocked that it's the same girl from the club.
Billie moves in with them sleeping on the couch while she is finishing college and finding a job. Her brother is way over protective and warns Rome to stay away from her. Not a problem until Rome gets injured and is home all the time and Billie is there to help him.
Billie wants to keep "them" a secret until after the season is over so there's no issues in the locker room or on the ice. If only that was possible.
4.5 stars I really enjoyed the story line. The issues Bodi and Billie faced growing up and how they dealt with them. Also how Rome kept from being part of the teams he was on and why and what he faced and his fears. Looking forward to Bodi's story.
How Billie and Roman met was cute, loved that they both acknowledged things on the second meeting. But here is where things started to drive me nuts. I hated how Bodi reacted to them meeting, how he treated his sister like a 5 year old. And yes, I get with their history there is a reason, but it was so over the top and it made me want to throat punch him, followed by a junk punch and it wasn't the only time.
It sucked that as things developed between Billie and Roman they had to hide things, that they couldn't really plan for the future because of hiding. It left them in a weird holding pattern. Of course it blew up and at the worst time possible.
What I found interesting about the blow up was how adult Roman was about things, while Bodi acted like a child. It was interesting the things Roman was willing to give up, while Bodi had nothing. And through it all the person who lost the most was Billie, even if I think she made the right choice to back away from them both.
It was nice to see how things worked out and I think Bodi's next move will be good for the siblings.
So we are taken back to the hockey world with a new couple. Forbidden romance. Age gap. Teammates little sister! Gives second chance and starting over. Lots of plots and twist and turns. The chemistry is insane with extreme yearning! Probably one of the best ones so far I think in the series! If you love age gap second chance with a dash of sports romance this one’s for you! Great way for book 6 to end! -Kerin Ray
Fair Play by Kat Mizera was beautifully written and had me tearing up a few times. I love the L.A. Phantoms series and devour each book when they are released. This book is a roommate's younger sister, a hockey romance with angst, spice, and a little drama, and the action on the ice is the icing on the rink. I was hooked by the first chapter and could not put it down until I reached the end. The storyline was page-turning and original. I loved the slow burn, forbidden romance, and the undeniable chemistry between the characters. The characters were complex and had an intense and slow-burning romance building throughout the book. This book is part of a series and can be read as a stand-alone, but I recommend starting at the beginning and taking the dive into the Phantoms Hocey series. I am obsessed with Kat Mizera and devour all of her books; she writes amazing stories that have me laughing, tearing up, and fist-pumping a few times.
Billie was independent, a firecracker, and trying to live her own life. I loved how protective her brother was of her. Their backstory was heartbreaking, and I loved their dynamics together. He was a little overbearing, but it was out of love. Rome was guarded, protective, and older. I enjoyed their journey through this book and was sad when I reached the end. I can’t wait to see what happens next, hoping it is Billie’s brother who is next!!!-by Brooke
Fair Play is an endearing story about loss, family, unselfishness, moving on, and love. Billie is in a love triangle with her boyfriend, Rome, and her overprotective brother, Brodi. After watching her parents die in an accident that left 15 year old Billie severely injured, 18 year old Bodi knows he needs to take care of her. He skips college to play minor league hockey and eventually makes his way from Phoenix to the LA Phantoms of the NHL taking Billie with him. Billie moves into an apartment with other college students leaving a room for Rome, who was just traded to LA. Not knowing she is his teammate/roommate’s sister, Rome and Billie meet in a club and don’t expect to see each other again…until she calls her brother to help get her out of the apartment and Rome goes along to help. She ends up sleeping on the couch and Bodi’s overprotectiveness takes over tenfold. Then Rome get hurt giving them time alone when Bodi goes on the road with the team. Can they get keep it a secret until the end of the season to avoid turmoil the locker room or will Bodi tear everyone apart?
Fair Play, the last book in the L.A. Phantoms series is the perfect story to say goodbye to this team with, but don’t fret you will get the lead into the next series at the end and I for one can’t wait. I love the twist on this teammates younger sister trope with Billie being the younger sister jumping into a relationship with Rome who is thirteen years older and at the end of his hockey career. She is just starting out on her career path and she brings the energy to their relationship as Rome is trying to hang on to his career for at least one more year. Unlike most professional hockey players that have money at the end of their career, Rome made some bad relationship choices that sucked him dry and he worries that he will not live up to Billie’s expectations with so little to show at his age. He can’t however deny that she is different and the chemistry between them is explosive. It is dealing with her brother’s feelings and protective nature that is one of their biggest obstacles. Now, they both have to decide what they want to risk to find the happiness they both deserve.
Who is Billie? Where is she at the start of the story, and why? As I read the first few pages, I thought that was going to go south very quickly. What happens to or with Billie? Who steps in to help stop the aggression? Who is Bodi, and how do we meet him? When he is talking about dinner plans, who calls him? What happened next had me thinking, 'Oh no...' Billie can definitely take care of herself. She has a good head on her shoulders because of her past and the people who helped raise her. What puts her back on Rome's radar for the second time? What is the age difference between Rome and Bodi and Billie? The tension that arises as Billie and Rome try to stay away from one another, yet struggle with their desires, makes this an interesting read. I was bummed out that this was the last in the series for the LA Phantoms, but I am happy to see another series coming down the pipeline. Read and see if Billie and Rome manage to stay away from each other, or if things blow up between Rome and Bodi because of his inability to stay away from Billie, or which way it goes. Enjoy the read!
Rome understands that the time he has left to play hockey is coming to end and he needs to make the most of the opportunity with the Phantom’s to secure his future. Now he finds himself adjusting to a new team as well as new teammates so getting involved with Billie, his teammate and roommate’s sister, is a complication he wasn’t expecting to face.
Billie has a difficult past, but she has always had her brother to rely on. When her living situation goes sideways once again he is there for her and offers her a room at the place he shares with Rome. What he doesn’t know is that she is the woman he hasn’t been able to forget, and he now finds himself torn between his loyalty to the team and feelings he has for Billie.
I really enjoyed how supportive Billie and Rome were of each other when the challenges in their live seem overwhelming. The chemistry between them is intense but it is the emotional connection and the way they put each other first that makes them perfect for each other.
This story was so good in so many ways. Rome was an almost washed up 35-year-old hockey player thinking he doesn’t have much more to offer and just wanting to pay off a second ex-wife alimony and retire in peace. somehow those plans get upended when he meets Billy at a nightclub, and she totally changes his world. At 22 Billie has the world at her feet and all possibilities are in front of her. He can’t possibly be w attracted to her. Hes too old and washed up. And the complication is he is staying with her brother Bodi who has made it entirely clear that his sister is off limits. They both have a history of losing parents and the grieving pain that comes with that so as they find their way for a new future together, life gets in the way. They have to decide if it’s worth it to fight for each other or not. This story was sweet and sexy and heartfelt and warm and great lessons for the journey of life. I highly recommend it. I know the series has ended it, but I can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next.
This book has an age-gap (which i'm still not sure i support because of her age), overprotective brother and slow burn that will have you pulling your hair out. Billie and Rome meet when he steps up and helps her with sending a message. They have a spark but nothing happens, and they're left with a nice little memory.
But when Rome is asked by Brodi (overprotective brother) to come and get his sister out of a messy situation, he's shocked to learn its his Billie. They know nothing can be done about the chemistry, but stay away when you're sharing a small space is hard. They'll have to decide if giving in the temptation is the right thing or will their relationship ruin everything for everyone?
It was not my favorite but definitely a nice edition to the series.

Forbidden love at it's best! Kat Mizera is bringing on all the temptation for the final book in her showstopper L.A. Phantoms hockey series. This series as a whole has been really heartfelt and addictive and I will miss it wholeheartedly. I am thrilled to see a spinoff on it's way though that will have Bodi front and center. This particular book was filled with family drama, life decisions and a sweet and sexy love story. Billie loves her brother Bodi, but she has had just about all of his overprotectiveness that she can stand. Falling for his temporary roomie and teammate probably wasn't her best idea ... but it was sexy as all get out! I loved Rome and was really rooting for him to get a true happily ever after this time. Billie was sincere and wise beyond her years and brought the best out in him. Loved them and their happily ever after! I hope we'll hear more about them in Bodi's story early next year. Great characters, well developed drama and addictive ... highly recommend!
Hockey player Rome Castellano knows that his time playing professional hockey is coming to an end so he had a roommate with the cost of everything in Los Angeles. Rome never expected to meet a girl named Billie at a club when he helped her when a guy harassed her never thinking to ask for her phone number.
So when his roommate Bodi Michener needed to pick up his college student sister from her apartment when her living situation went bad never expecting that Bodi’s sister was Billie and she was going to be their new roommate.
You will like Fair Play because Rome and Billie have to overcome the personal and professional obstacles in realizing that they are in love.
P.S. Bodi’s book is next and starts a new series!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author and Wildfire Marketing. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I so loved Rome and Billie together. They just click from the beginning.
Their situation is complicated. She’s his teammate’s little sister, and her brother is overly protective. Rome’s been through two awful divorces.
There’s every reason for Rome and Billie to not get involved but the chemistry between them just can’t be denied. So despite complications and worries, they still end up falling in love.
I absolutely love the Rome’s redemption arc. He really works hard at being a better player, teammate, man and partner for Billie.
And Billie, despite being just 22 years old has such a good head on her shoulders. She’s been through some terrible trauma, but she’s come out strong and powerful.
I loved their story so much, it made me cry here and there, but the ending was so satisfying.
I have received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
We are back with the LA Phantoms for Bodi's sister, Billie's story, and her live interest, the fabulous Rome. He is a big, uncertain man who has acquired a reputation he wants to change, and a sweet, clever younger woman who knocks his socks off. But, and it's a big but, brother Bodi is one overprotective big brother who has looked after Billie since the loss of their beloved parents. His protectiveness is definitely over the top, so clandestine dates become a risk to both of themt and to Rome's efforts to integrate himself into his new team. I really enjoyed this book. Bodi is a bit of a pain, but his story is to come, and I loved Billie and Rome. Plus, as a bonus, we see how other characters are getting on. 💖💖💖💖
Rome and Billie seem like complete opposites when you look at them and to the outside world. Rome is a hockey player that is on borrowed time at the end of his career. Billie is in her early 20's with the world in front of her. They cross paths one night when out at a club not realizing just how small their world truly is. It ends up that Rome is teammates with Billie's older brother Bodi. The two of them are thrown together because of different circumstances. Each over coming their own demons and past by growing closer to on another. Watching them become stronger as themselves when becoming stronger together is what really made this story come alive. Can't wait to see what Bodi and the new series brings to us.
Rome's an older hockey player but new to the Phantoms. Billie is a college student and younger sister to one of Rome's teammates. Billie and Rome meet when he helps her out of a situation at a club, they are attracted to each other but go there separate ways without exchanging information. Imagine their surprise when Rome goes with his roommate to pick up his sister after she finds herself in another situation to find Billie again. Billie's brother is overprotective and makes sure to let Rome know to stay away from his sister. Rome finds himself living with both Billie and her brother (his roommate). Will they be able to resist their attraction? I absolutely loved Rome and Billie. It was great to be in the Phantoms world again and see the characters we have met before.
